Edward groaned as he woke up, the sun on his face from the window and he pulled the blanket over his head. He briefly saw Rubix playing quietly on the floor as he turned over on the bed, finding it empty. "What time is it?" He mumbled.

"About nine thirty," Kristen said from the kitchen area, where she was in the process of making French toast. "If you want to sleep in a little longer, I can wake you up when breakfast's ready," she offered. As far as she could tell, Edward had slept soundly through the rest of the night, but he hadn't fallen asleep until about four. Still, it was the most sleep he'd gotten since he'd started taking his meds.

"No, I … I'll get up." He said but he made no move to actually do so.

"Alright," Kristen said, smirking slightly. "If you say so."

"Dada up?" Rubix asked quietly tugging on Kristen's pant leg.

"He's working on it," Kristen said. "Give him a couple minutes. He's still sleepy."

"Okay, shhhh!" He said with his finger to his lips; if dada was still sleeping they had to be quiet, cause dada wasn't feeling good. He slowly moved over to the bed and looked over the edge, his hands holding the edge as he looked at Ed. "Dada sickies?" He whispered.

Ed slowly opened his eyes and looked at Rubix from beneath the blanket. "No, just tired." He said reaching out for him and pulling him onto the bed, snuggling him like a teddy bear as he closed his eyes again.

"Dada!" Rubix said before he realized how loud he was. "Shhhh." He said again making Edward chuckle.

"I think he can still hear you," Kristen said, smiling slightly as she watched them. Maybe things were on their way to being okay again. Rubix wasn't scared of Edward, who hadn't had any further episodes since he'd started taking the medication. And they just might be a little closer to getting the insomnia under control.

"Hey brat face," Edward said kissing the top of his head as Rubix wiggled to get free. "Nooooo." Edward whined, holding onto him. "I want to cuddle! Nooooo!" He said as Rubix laughed and struggled more.

"Le go Dada! Dada!" Rubix said twisting onto his stomach and pushing himself forward against his dad's chest with his head.

"Hey, what do you think you're doing?" He asked flipping him up into the air upside down and dropping him onto the bed on his other side, making Rubix squeal.

Kristen laughed, watching them, as she dished out French toast onto four plates and started carrying them to the table. Deidre emerged from the trapdoor, looking over at them. "Should I come rescue you, Rubix?" she asked.

"No! You can not rescue him from the evil monster!" Edward said roaring as Rubix managed to scamper off the bed and Edward pulled himself to the edge, reaching for him as he screamed and ran away.

"Oh yeah?" Deidre said with a wicked grin. "Well I'm twice as evil as you are!" She jumped onto the bed and started tickling Edward. "Come on Rubix," she yelled. "Get him!"

"No, okay ow, ow stop!" Edward said as Deidre practically pounced on him.

"Hmm … I don't know," Deidre said, turning to look over at Rubix. "What do you think?" she asked. "Should I let him up?"

"I'm being serious, get off me." Edward said, clearly sounding annoyed.

"Okay, I'm sorry," Deidre said, getting off of him and backing away to give him some space, her hands up to indicate that no new attack was forthcoming.

Edward groaned as he rolled over onto his back. He supposed he was to blame for that, he's the one that started the fight, even if it was a joke.

"Dada kay?" Rubix asked going over to the bed to see if his dad was alright.

"Still sore?" Kristen asked quietly.

Deidre winced. "I'm sorry," she repeated. It had just been so good to see Edward up and laughing and playful again that she'd gotten carried away.

"It's okay. I'm fine …" he said, slowly sitting up in bed and pulling Rubix into his lap. "Go eat, Monster." He said kissing his head and putting him back down again.

Kristen pulled out a chair for Rubix and helped him up, pushing in his chair enough for him to reach the table.

Edward slowly stood up and moved to Kristen, kissing her on the cheek. "Morning." He said before he headed to the bathroom.

"He seems to be doing better," Kristen said, glancing over at Deidre as she cut up Rubix's French toast into small manageable bites for him.

"What happened?" Deidre asked, cutting into her own french toast. "He seems a bit …. Off still."

"He was having difficulty sleeping, so I … helped," she said, knowing Deidre would know what she was talking about. "And … afterward, he said he felt sore. I think it was around four before he finally got to sleep."

"Side effects from his meds?" Deidre asked quietly, thankful that Rubix was ignoring them. He was too busy humming and trying to dip the French Toast piece he had on his fork into a dollop of syrup and whipped cream.

"I think so," Kristen agreed. "I mean, he hasn't always slept soundly before, but … I think this is the first time he's slept at all since he started taking it. The soreness could definitely be a side-effect too."

Deidre heard the shower turn on and picked up Ed's plate, going over to place it in the microwave. "Still, if he's not able to sleep it's definitely something he should bring up with his doctor. Maybe there's something he can do."

"I agree … Maybe he could do something with the dosage," Kristen said, starting to eat quickly so that she could get ready for work. "He has another appointment soon."

"I'm sure he'll know to bring it up, but we should mention it anyway. He can't go much longer on no sleep." She said as the shower turned off and a few moments later Ed came back out, his hair wet and curling. "Hey babe." Deidre said as Ed came over and kissed her before going to the microwave to get his food.

"I know I have to talk to the doctor about the lack of sleep." He said as he closed the microwave door.

"You heard us huh?" Deidre asked.

"Oh, only … A lot." He said as he sat down on the table, Rubix laughing as the kitten was up on the table licking syrup off his plate.

Kristen picked up Puzzles and moved him away from Rubix's plate. "Sorry," she said. "We're just worried."

"I know." Edward said digging into his food. "But when …" Edward paused. "Um …" He shook his head. "Sorry, I … Lost my train of thought there." He said cutting into his French Toast. "I'll bring it up … Maybe he can give me something to help sleep or …." Edward paused again. "Or something."

Kristen watched Edward in concern. "You alright?" she asked.

"You seem a little distracted this morning," Deidre added.

"I'm fine …" Edward said. "It's probably lack of sleep. I'm having a hard time thinking."

"Probably," Kristen agreed, returning her attention to her French toast.

"Might want to check with the doctor anyway," Deidre suggested. "See if that's another possible side effect too."

"I will." Edward said, though he doubted it was anything.

"You've been doing that for the past day or so …" Deidre commented.

"Seriously," Kristen insisted. "If it's something that can be helped, the doctor needs to know about it." Edward always prided himself in his sharp mind. If he was having a hard time thinking … then he was having a hard time being himself. Maybe that was the reason he hadn't brought it up with the doctor. Maybe he was too afraid that it was an inevitable side-effect of the meds, and that it wasn't going away.

"Okay." Edward said. "Aren't you going to be late for work?" He asked pointing at the clock with his fork.

Kristen looked up at the clock and jumped to her feet, startled at the time. "You're right," she said, taking her plate to the sink. "Be good for Deidre, will you?" she said, stopping to kiss Edward on the cheek.

"Kisten me to!" Rubix said holding his hands out to her. "Don aget me!"

"Oh, how could I ever forget you?" Kristen said with a laugh, picking up Rubix and kissing him on the forehead. "You be good for Deidre and Dada too, okay?"

"Kay!" Rubix said playing with the KK embroidery on her shirt. "I good, I get cookie?" He asked hopefully.

"Rubix." Edward said in a warning tone.

Kristen laughed at that. "We'll see." She handed Rubix back to Edward, before she went to go get her purse.

"Get!" Edward said taking Rubix from her and pulled his plate across the table to him. "Out of my apartment!" Edward said jokingly. "Get out!"

"I'm going, I'm going," Kristen laughed, picking up her purse and heading out the door. With any luck, she should still make it to work on time.
