Percy Jackson
"What are you doing here?" Percy asked as he gaped.
Percy was used to weird things happening in his life. At this point, he'd gone through so much weird shit already that he felt like he was ready for anything. Well, mostly anything.
Absolutely nothing could prepare him for the blonde gray-eyed girl standing in front of him. Annabeth, who he thought was dead, was standing right in front of him with a huge smile on her face.
At first, Percy thought he was dreaming. Then he thought he was looking at Athena, but that didn't make any sense. The girl in front of him had Annabeth's scars and she had that familiar gleam in her eyes. She even wore Annabeth's typical outfit. Her camp shirt, the cut off shorts, even her converses. Everything about this girl screamed Annabeth.
Annabeth stepped forward after clearing her throat, "Hello."
The second Percy heard her voice, he knew this was Annabeth. Athena's voice was slightly deeper and more mature sounding. Percy didn't care anymore, he found his girlfriend. He sprinted at her.
Annabeth shrieked when Percy tackled her onto the carpeted ground. She didn't push him off though, instead she laughed so hard that tears were coming down her face. Percy meanwhile buried his face into her shoulder, he was beyond ecstatic to have his girlfriend back.
"Gods, Seaweed Brain, you're like a golden retriever sometimes." Annabeth laughed while ruffling his hair.
Percy looked up at her, "What, did you want me to judo flip you?"
Annabeth chuckled, "Touché."
Percy went back to hugging her like his life depended on it. He needed to reassure himself that this wasn't some cruel dream from the gods, that she was actually alive. He'd rather die than wake up from a dream like this. He was so convinced that she was dead over the past few weeks, now she was right underneath him.
After a few minutes, Annabeth gently pushed him off. She sat up and said, "I bet you weren't expecting me, were you?"
Percy sat up next to her, "They told me you were dead."
"Oh yeah? Who's they?" She asked.
"Hektor did. He said a monster got you. I saw your blood on the ground!"
Annabeth took his face in her hands, "Percy, there was no monster. Hektor fucking stabbed me!"
Percy stared back at her. He wanted to say he was surprised but over the past few days, he really wasn't. By now, Percy was certain that when he got a hold of Hektor, he was going to make him regret being born. No one hurts Annabeth and gets away with it. He wondered what he was going to do, wicked and dark images flickered through his mind. The darkest parts of his mind suggested ways of torture that would make even the most composed person falter.
"Percy?" Annabeth said, her voice bringing him back to reality, "Are you okay? Did I say something wrong?"
"Huh? No, no, you're fine." He said.
"You looked like you wanted to murder me just now." She joked, "Though we both know that I'd beat you."
"It's just…how? How did Hektor get the jump on you?" He asked, "And what was with all that stuff on your laptop?"
Annabeth sighed, "He got the jump on me because I was being stupid. I underestimated him and it nearly got me killed. The whole reason he even did it was because of that stuff on my laptop, I was getting too close to figuring out who he was."
"How did you get all that stuff? I mean, the videos and everything." He asked.
Annabeth shrugged, "I have my ways. If I want to find something out, I will eventually. I was getting suspicious of Hektor after he kept asking me and you about Luke. He wasn't just asking about stories, he was asking what he did wrong and how he could've won the war. It was like he was trying to figure out what not to do."
"That still doesn't explain how he managed to stab you."
Annabeth gave him a critical glance, "He asked me to show him Zeus's fist. I saw that as my chance to grab him without looking like a psycho in front of the entire camp. I didn't see a sword on him so I figured I could handle him. Next thing I knew, there was a dagger in my back. The only reason I'm alive is because I brought some ambrosia squares and the fact that Hektor is completely inept with a knife."
Percy figured that made sense. He never trained Hektor on how to use a knife. Yet a knife was the perfect weapon for killing someone discretely, those things were easy to conceal and very light. The only issue was that to use one, you'd have to be precise. Hits that would normally be 100% fatal with a sword may not be fatal with a knife.
"Good thing too because I was only at risk of bleeding out." Annabeth continued, "If he had severed my spinal cord, well, that would've definitely caused some problems."
"Why didn't you come back to camp?" Percy asked, "I thought you were dead because I couldn't find you."
"I know. I wanted to chase him but I realized that was my chance to be able to watch him without him even knowing. If everyone thought I was dead, he'd maybe let his guard down." Annabeth said.
"You could've told me that!" Percy said, getting a little angry now, "Why would you do that to me?"
"Percy, if I told you, you would've been all calm and collected. The second everyone sees that you're not breaking down over me dying would be the second everyone suspects that I'm not really dead. Then Hektor would go into hiding and I'd never know what he was doing." Annabeth explained, "I know it hurt you and I'm sorry but you have to understand why I did it."
"You didn't have to. You could've brought me along or told me to handle him. Now he's in control of the entire camp and from what Athena said, he's going to try to raise Kronos. Me and you could've stopped all of this." Percy said.
"And what if he hurt you too?" Annabeth asked, "What if he stabbed you and ended up killing you? You know you're sensitive on the small of your back."
"Annabeth, he did hurt me!" Percy replied, "Everyone betraying me hurt more than any knife could."
"Not everyone. I never betrayed you. Let's make one thing clear here, I didn't get you involved at all because I was afraid of you getting killed. You're not invincible anymore, Percy, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I got you killed."
"And yet I ended up getting involved anyways." He said.
"Yes, because I fucked up. If I had been a little more careful, we would've had Hektor up on Olympus in chains. Clearly, things didn't turn out that way, so now we need to work together to make sure he doesn't kill all our friends. I can't do this alone, Percy." She said.
Percy would've been lying if he said he wasn't angry. The fact that Annabeth would fake something like that was beyond cruel to him. He knew she did it for a good cause but he still couldn't find it in himself to let it go.
"Fine, I'll let it slide this time." He said, not really letting it slide, "But I want something in return."
"What?" She asked.
"I want you to never do that again. Next time, give me a sign that you aren't dead. I don't care about whatever the plan is, I almost went insane because of it." He said, "Please, don't do it again."
Annabeth's face softened as she heard Percy's pleading voice. He was rarely ever this vulnerable, in fact, she and Sally were the only ones to ever see him like this. Percy knew what he was doing, he was handing Annabeth a huge amount of power over him but he did it because he still trusted her.
"I promise I won't do it to you again." She said.
Percy felt himself relax after she said that. Annabeth usually kept her promises so he had no reason to believe she'd break this one. If she did do it again, he was going to go to Grover and force him to make a empathy link between Annabeth and himself. Fuck the consequences of that, he'd gladly be a vegetable for the rest of his life if it meant he knew the truth.
"Well, that wasn't what I had in mind for a reunion." Annabeth said while getting up from off the floor, "But I don't care, I'm just glad you're alive. I watched the whole thing with your dad."
"I hope you don't think I'm a coward for running." Percy said.
"Of course not!" She exclaimed, "I would've slapped the shit out of you for being so dumb if you tried to fight."
Percy fought the grin that threatened to overtake his face. There was the Annabeth he knew.
"Gods, I love you." Percy said while pulling her into a hug.
Annabeth returned the hug before saying, "You know, if you think about it, that's payback for going missing for 8 months."
"Not my fault."
Annabeth pulled back, "8 months, Percy. 8! Do you realize how much time we lost because Mrs. Royal Pain In The Ass decided to choose you as her Greek tribute?"
"We'll take it up with her after this is all over." He assured her.
"Good." She said before taking him by the hand, "Now follow me, I want to show you something."
Percy let her drag him off to wherever she was going. She could've been dragging him into a volcano for all he knew and he still would've been fine with it. He watched as she nudged open a set of double doors to reveal a bedroom. Annabeth must've been staying in that bedroom for a while since everything was either decorated with something that had to do with owls or architecture. There was even a small nightstand with a frame of her and Percy.
A small window gave a amazing view of Atlantis, which made sense for someone like Annabeth. He could imagine her standing at the window while staring in awe at the city. Then he turned his attention to the bed. It was a queen-sized bed, definitely way too big for a single person. Then he noticed a odd pillow. He looked closer and blushed when he noticed the pillow had his face on it.
"Um, Annabeth?"
"Yes?" She asked while glancing out the window.
"What is that?" He asked while pointing at the pillow.
Annabeth turned. Her eyes widened and her cheeks turned bright red, "Oh my gods, I didn't mean to leave that out!" She ran over and shoved the pillow underneath a mountain of other pillows.
Percy stared for a minute before starting to crack up with laughter, "I never thought you'd be the type to own a body pillow!"
"Shut up!" She snapped, "I got lonely!"
Percy laughed only even louder. The image of Annabeth cuddling with a pillow of his face was just too funny. Adorable, but funny. He kept laughing, only to pause when he noticed Annabeth shooting him that familiar glare that she always gave when someone had royally pissed her off.
"Sorry." He said meekly.
He backed up as Annabeth walked closer to him. Percy's face morphed from humor to terror as Annabeth's shadow covered his on the wall behind him.
Poseidon
Poseidon walked through the halls of his palace, slightly irked by the fact that he just left Percy upstairs with that Athena girl. He'd gotten to know Annabeth and figured she was a good person but he knew she had a violent side. All Athena children usually did.
Athena had just told him her new plan, they were going to use Percy and Annabeth to get the godly items back one by one. He didn't really mind but he kind of wished they didn't have to nearly decimate Percy's sanity to get him to come to them. Seriously, the poor guy had been through enough.
If he was being honest, if it weren't for Percy, he would've been a lot more reluctant to help Annabeth when she prayed for his help on the beach after she got stabbed. She had Percy to thank for that. Poseidon figured if Percy loved her enough to fall into Tartarus then there had to be something good about her. Good looks weren't everything when it came to his son.
Now that he thought about it, he hadn't checked on Percy since he left him in that room. Surely those two would've finished greeting each other by now. Right?
Right?
After making his way to their room, he stopped outside to hear if there was anything wrong. Silence. He didn't hear anything. He was about to knock but he figured they weren't up to anything too bad. Sure, they were two madly in love eighteen year old teenagers but surely Chiron had trained them to be decent.
Bad decision.
When Poseidon opened the door, he was greeted to a empty suite. The living room was empty, the TV still off and everything was where it normally was. He checked the kitchen, only to find it empty as well. Poseidon knew his son enough to know that Percy loved being in the kitchen, that boy ate so much yet remained so fit.
He was about to open the doors to the bedroom when the doors flew open, courtesy of Percy trying to escape the room. His shirt was ripped off and his belt undone. Poseidon jumped back, not at all expecting his demigod son to burst out of the room in a state of undress.
"Help! She's crazy!" Percy screamed.
"Oh no you don't!" Annabeth shouted, grabbing him by the ankle and dragging him back into the bedroom. She threw him on the bed, mouthed 'sorry' to Poseidon, and shut the doors before locking them.
Poseidon stood at the doors with a dumbfounded look on his face. What the fuck did he just see? He could hear Percy's muffled screaming from inside. He wanted to bust the doors down but he was afraid he might see something that would genuinely scar him.
"Son?" He called.
"I'm fine, I'm fine!" Percy yelled, "Gods, Annabeth stop rolling your hips!"
"Okay, I've heard enough." Poseidon said before speedily making his way out of the suite. He was kind of wishing that he told Percy to get Aphrodite's symbol back, maybe he wouldn't have to deal with the mental image in his head.
When Poseidon reached the hallway, Amphitrite was waiting for him, a look of concern on her face.
"I heard screaming, are you okay?" She asked.
"I think Annabeth is jumping Percy." He said.
Amphitrite looked confused before her eyes widened, "Oh okay. I'll go get your therapist."
"That'd be nice." Poseidon said as she walked off. He looked up at the ceiling, Athena, what is wrong with your daughter?!
A/N: Percabeth fans rejoice, Annabeth wasn't dead after all. Good job to everyone who guessed Annabeth, i dropped plenty of clues that she wasn't dead and it's good to see people picked up on it. By the way, i have indeed cross-posted this story on AO3, mainly because that site has a pretty good UI. The plot should still remain the same though. If i'm being honest, i was torn between Annabeth or Thalia being in the room since i wasn't sure if i wanted to do a Perlia or Percabeth story but i figured i'd stick with my favorite couple instead. Thalia may make a appearance later on but not yet, so for you Thalia fans, don't worry, she's lurking.
