"This is really awkward," Ginny said with a short laugh.
Remus nodded silently. He glanced over the younger woman's shoulder. "Dean is watching."
Ginny looked over Remus' shoulder. "So is Tonks."
"I think they're both waiting for us to kiss," Remus finally said.
The pairing of the two of them was definitely unlikely. Those who knew both of them would never imagine the two of them ever being romantically interested in each other. While Remus was quiet and reserved, at home in a nice library or bookstore and not one for conflict despite his Gryffindor brashness and his sometimes testy personality around the full moon, Ginny was a force of nature. No one trifled with her because she would never let herself be pushed around. It came with the territory of being the only daughter in a house full of sons. And she rarely set foot in quiet places, preferring the noise of a Quidditch game, especially since she was a Chaser for the Holyhead Harpies.
There was also the fact that Remus was old enough to be her father
The only thing the two of them had in common was their shared Hogwarts house.
Still, when Ginny and Remus found themselves being pursued by other parties that neither were interested in, they came together.
None of them had single friends, so in the hopes of making their crushers move on from their infatuations, they decided to "date." Or at least make everyone believe they were dating.
Neither Tonks nor Dean believed it to be the truth, though. Hence, here they were, staring at each other and trying to figure out how to kiss and make it look convincing.
"We can't keep stalling. They're going to get suspicious," Remus warned.
Ginny breathed deeply. "We're Gryffindors. We're brave. We rush into situations without thinking them through. Let's do it." Before Remus could put forth a valid argument about how they should just give up and try to reason with Dean and Tonks about how not interested they were, Ginny grabbed the lapels of Remus' coat and pulled it.
Remus stumbled forward into Ginny's waiting lips. Before he could pull back in surprise, defeating the whole purpose of the kiss, Ginny wound her arms around Remus' neck, keeping him firmly in place.
Their mouths moved against each other, and Remus found himself responding. The kiss was as fiery as Ginny's personality, and he couldn't help but enjoy it.
He knew he shouldn't be; she was so young even though she was in her twenties, but there was something extremely attractive about her take-charge attitude.
Ginny's fingers played in his hair, and he held her securely against his body. His lower body reacted in a typical male way.
When they finally pulled back, they both panted harshly. "If they don't believe that, nothing we do will get them to back off."
Remus nodded. He wondered if they were really pretending after that kiss, though. It didn't feel so fake anymore.
