Disclaimer: I do not own Twilight or any of the other books in the Saga, they belong to Stephenie Meyer. This chapter is going to use some phrases, dialogue, and some descriptions from the book. I do not own any of it, they all belong to her.
The time has come. It is finally Graduation. My plan is to put the graduation ceremony and the party together, but, if the chapter starts getting far too long I will be separating them, like they are in Eclipse.
Just because of the contents of this chapter, I will be dedicating the chapter to everyone who is graduating from school this year. To all the 2019 Grads.
Chapter 19
Any other girl who was dealing with graduation most like at some point in their preparations for the big day looked into their closet and complained about having nothing to wear.
This wasn't the problem I was struggling with. My closet was full thanks to a certain pixie. I shouldn't be struggling as much as I was trying to find clothes.
The problem was the two little children standing at my feet.
Anna grabbed one of the many skirts hanging up. "See Cissy, this one is very fashionable."
Cissy took the skirt in her small hands. She smiled up at me. "This one Auntie."
Anna waggled her finger in front of Cissy's face. "This skirt isn't good enough for this party."
I sighed and watched as Anna and Cissy repeated this conversation with the next few skirts.
Anna planted her hands on her hips. "Auntie needs something that makes her look like a grown-up."
Cissy looked up at me before turning questioningly to her big sister. "Auntie Bella is grown up."
I gently hugged Cissy to my leg. "Thank you, Cissy."
Anna shook her head. "Auntie has to look like a grown-up like Uncle Charlie is a grown up."
I bit back a laugh as I watched Cissy think over Anna's words. What I would give to see into her thoughts.
Anna took Cissy's hand in her own. "Come on Cissy, I need to teach you how to pick out the perfect outfit."
"This is the proudest moment of my life," Alice cooed behind me.
I turned to find her leaning against my closet door. One arm held a box that I knew had to have more clothes.
"Alice," I whined. "I don't need any more clothes. I can find something in all of this to wear."
In reality I had already picked out what I wanted to wear to graduation, the top for it had been stolen though by our thief.
Alice just smiled and walked passed me. She handed the box to Anna. "I'm so happy you're starting Cissy off so young, but I have the perfect outfit for your Auntie Bella.
Anna lifted the lid and squealed excitedly.
Cissy pulled the lovely blue sweater from the box. "This pretty Auntie?"
I gently took the sweater from her. It was my favorite color, Edward's favorite to see on me. As I fingered the material I was glad to see that it had been made sturdily. I wouldn't be accidentally ripping this.
Curiously I glanced at the box. It was blank, this didn't come from a store.
I grabbed the matching skirt and held it and the top together. "Did you make this for me, Alice?"
She grinned proudly. "I thought it would have taken you longer to figure it out."
I shook my head and hugged her. "Thank you, I love it. Of course I'll wear it."
Alice's grin widened and she gently steered the girls out of the closet. I shut the closet door and then my bedroom door so I could change.
Alice sat down on the bed, pulling Cissy onto her lap. "I felt like I owed you, especially since I missed the thief who took yours and Anna's favorite tops."
She sighed and started playing with Cissy's curling hair. Her curls weren't as tight as Anna's but I was certain they would get there as her hair grew longer. Her hair was lightening too. If I wasn't mistaken she was going to have her Momma's blonde hair.
Anna climbed onto my bed and hugged Alice. "It's not your fault, Alice. You can't see everything, and the bad person seemed to know how to get around your visions."
Alice tried not to grumble at Anna's words. "What I want to know is how he knew how to get passed my visions. No one knows exactly how they work except us, the Denalis and now Aro."
As I pulled the sweater over my head, the pieces started to fall into place.
The Denalis wouldn't tell anyone about Alice's powers, Laurent was as much of a Denalis as the rest of them; and I also didn't know if he knew already all the specifics of the Cullens' powers. Aro wouldn't gain anything at the moment, so he was out too. But the list wasn't over yet. There were people from the other world who knew about Alice's powers. Their signs had been able to scan and take that information directly from her any time she had used her powers to fight them.
The Hunters don't like Transitional creatures, but they have no problem with natural mythical beings. They could have sent the vampire to test Alice's powers, but then why would he take our scent?
I dropped the skirt that I had absentmindedly grabbed from where I had set it, as the last piece came to me.
"Bella, you're starting to worry me," Alice admitted.
"It's Victoria," Anna said just as I did.
Alice caught the implication.
Anna tightened her hold around Alice's arm. "We knew she was making an army, and I've seen the news."
Alice and I both shared a nervous look. We had been trying to keep the news off in both houses. For the past couples months Seattle had been plagued by newborn vampires. I knew the signs, as had Charlie and the Cullens. We had been trying very hard to keep the girls from hearing about it. Apparently Anna knew this whole time. Thankfully Cissy was still too young to understand the implications.
Anna's eyes squeezed shut and she shook. "She needs our scents…"
Alice shushed her gently. "Enough Anna." She kindly nodded towards Cissy who was watching the three of us curiously.
Alice sighed. "That makes sense, but how would she know to hide behind the holes in my visions."
I grimaced and swallowed back my self-blaming nature. "The Hunters. Any time you used your power around them, their signs would learn how your power works, and they're uploaded to every sign out there."
Alice stood up, pulling Anna into her arms so she was holding both girls. "You think Victoria is working with the Hunters?"
I could only nod. It was the only thing that made sense.
Alice started pacing the length of my room. "It's all the same plot, not separate ones."
"And the Hunters use her to find Auntie, they don't have to track down like a normal human," Anna added sharply.
It made too much sense to be wrong, and we knew it.
Alice jerked to a stop with a panicked look on her face.
"What's wrong?" I took the few steps to her side, taking Anna from her so I'd have a free arm to shake.
Alice passed my Cissy too. "Edward's almost here, we can't let him know about this yet." She grabbed my skirt from the floor and tossed it on the bed. Change and get the girls ready. Rose will be here in a bit to get the girls. Don't let either of them know."
With that, she climbed out of my window.
I set both of the girls. "Can you hide your thoughts, Anna?"
Anna wrapped Cissy in her arms, she nodded slowly.
I sighed knowing I needed to distract Cissy quickly so this moment would be out of her thoughts. "Come on Cissy, Anna, we need to finish getting ready for tonight."
I plastered a smile that I didn't really feel on my face trying to ignore what we had figured out.
Anna tried to help too. She helped Cissy climb off the bed and they ran out the door to their room. She would pick out the perfect outfits and wait for me to get them down.
After making sure my door was shut again I finished changing. I had hoped that I could do something more sophisticated with my hair, but I was out of time.
I stepped out of my room and almost walked into Rose. She smiled and caught my shoulders so I wouldn't fall over. "You okay, Bella."
Clearly, I wasn't doing a good job at hiding my worries. So I said the only excuse that could be believed. "Nerves, and you know…"
The Cullens all knew that I was struggling with graduation and how it was just Charlie. I was really missing my mom and her side of the family.
That was one of the reasons why the Denalis had been invited to come down.
Jasper had wanted to talk with Laurent more about Victoria, with Turner. Graduation seemed like the best time to do that, especially since it would seem that Victoria had not only perfected her ability to create newborn vampires, but also she seemed to have vanished. The newborns were still running amuck, but Victoria was nowhere to be seen.
Rose gave my shoulder a gentle squeeze. "You should head down, Edward and your dad are ready to get going, and you don't want to be late. I've got the girls."
I nodded and headed down the stairs.
"You don't mind sitting in the back of the cruiser do you?" I heard Charlie ask. What he said afterward though made me gasp. "You wouldn't be offended, I just want to be able to brag I put you in the back to keep you from Bella."
Edward laughed at Charlie's teasing but as I stepped up to my dad I crossed my arms letting him know I did not approve of his joking around.
Charlie laughed and slung his arm around my shoulders. "You ready to go Bella?"
I nodded and let Charlie lead me to his cruiser.
Charlie's teasing did manage to lift my spirits enough for me to push my thoughts away from the coming trouble.
When we arrived at school though I couldn't hide my concerns well enough.
"Are you all right?" Edward asked as he helped me from the car.
I flinched slightly when Charlie glanced towards me. Now they both knew something was bothering me. I attempted the same excuse I had given Rose, but could tell neither one of them believed me.
I stretched up and kissed Edward's cheek and then Charlie's. "There's just too much going on and I really don't feel like handle the human world items."
I turned and headed for the gym before they could question me further.
Charlie couldn't follow me, but Edward caught up quickly.
"Bella, something is bothering you. I can tell."
We entered the gym and I tried to come up with something else to say.
It was pandemonium as Ms. Cope and Mr. Varner the math teacher tried to line everyone up alphabetically.
"Up front, Mr. Cullen," Mr. Varner barked at Edward.
I offered him a smile and was thankful for the excuse to drop the conversation for now.
"Later," I promised, knowing he would hear me.
"Hey, Bella!"
I looked around trying to find Jessica Stanley. She waved at me from the back of the line, a smile on her face.
I joined her in line and she hugged me tightly.
"I can't believe this is the end." She released me. "I'm so glad you all decided to throw a party. It will be good for all of us friends, one last evening to be together as friends before we all head in our separate directions." She brushed at her gown. "We need to make sure we stay in touch even though we'll be in different states."
I nodded and she continued to blab about the supposed friendship we had for the year and a half that we knew each other.
As she talked I scanned the graduating class. Everyone seemed to be here except for Alice. Was she just going to skip the ceremony? What a great time for us to figure out this mess. I felt bad that she was missing the ceremony.
The next thing I knew we were walking and taking our seats for the ceremony.
As soon as we were seated it was as if someone had hit a fast forward button. Eric's speech had nervously been sped through and only a few moments later Mr. Greene had started calling names. One name after another, and there weren't even any pauses between.
The front row clearly hadn't expected him to go that fast and hurried to catch up. Poor Ms. Cope was struggling to keep up.
I glanced around the gym nervously. It was getting closer and closer to Alice's name and I still couldn't see her. I turned to the front of the group and saw Edward. It seemed he was already prepared to accept Alice's diploma for her.
As her name was called though, Alice effortlessly jumped in line in front of Edward. She danced across the stage, a look of deep concentration on her face. Edward followed after her, his expression confused, but not upset, which was good.
Then it was my turn. I hadn't heard any of the names before mine and I just barely managed to walk forward without tripping. My nerves were shot and I was struggling with my speed. I closed my eyes and focused on my breathing to try to help calm myself, but from the back of the gym I could hear loud cheering. I glanced towards all the noise and tears sprung to my eyes. Standing in the back where they would be out of the way, was the pack. Every member even the few younger ones that had been turned thanks to the large numbers of vampires in Seattle. Jacob was sitting with Charlie and his dad. Carlisle, Esme, Rose, Emmett, and Jasper were on Charlie's other side. Anna and Cissy sat with Rose and Emmett. The Denalis sat on their other side of Jasper.
To my surprise though there were others in the crowd that I recognized immediately.
Duke was standing beside Sam and Emily. Beside him was Thomas, and beside Thomas was Gi and Phil.
I walked across the stage and accepted my diploma from Mr. Greene.
He placed it in my good hand. "Congratulations Miss Swan.
"Thanks," I murmured.
I followed Jessica to where the others had assembled.
There were a few more words and then cheers filled the gym and it was all over. I didn't grab my cap in time but I half-heartedly tossed it in front of my face and caught it again.
Jessica wrapped her arms around me again, catching me by surprise. "I can't believe it's over. You have to promise that we'll keep in touch."
I carefully pushed her away. Despite how things had been at first, and how little time we had spent together I offered her an honest smile. "I'm glad I met you, Jessica."
She hugged me again before rushing towards Lauren, calling after her.
Families were beginning to gather their students and I knew that mine was going to stay back and out of the way. Everything was finally getting to me and I wasn't sure if I could make it safely to them.
Electricity zipped up my arm as Edward gently took hold of my elbow. "Having a little bit of trouble?" He whispered in my ear.
I offered him a tired smile and nodded.
Carefully he guided me through all the people and out the doors of the gym where our entire group was waiting.
Jasper already had Alice in his arms congratulating her.
I offered Charlie the first hug. He held me tightly. The unspoken words we wanted to say out loud flowing between us anyway.
As soon as we had parted Gi side stepped passed Charlie so she could get the next hug. "I'm so proud of you." She lowered her voice. "Your mom would be too."
I nodded and squeezed her tighter.
Phil took the next hug and I slowly worked through the not so small crowd.
"Time for the Party?" Cissy asked before anyone could stop her.
We all glanced around to make sure no one had heard her talking so well. Thankfully everyone outside was too focused on their own families.
I laughed nervously and tried to smile to Cissy. "Oh all right, you can throw me a party."
Realizing her mistake Cissy merely clapped at my words.
Charlie hugged me once more. "I need to get to my shift at the station, enjoy the party."
"I'll try."
We all headed for our own cars, and I wasn't at all surprised to find the vanquish in the parking lot. Carlisle must have driven it over for Edward.
Edward opened the door for me and made a show of walking around to his side at a human speed.
We drove out of the parking lot in silence but as soon as we were on the street Edward glanced at me. "What's bothering you, Bella?" I highly doubted that Edward would crash his car if I told him now. It probably wasn't exactly safe to tell him now though. If I had been smart I probably would have told him while we were still around humans and he couldn't react in a non-human way.
"Bella, please," he pleaded. "What's going on your mind?"
I bit my lower lip nervously before making up my mind. I told him everything. All that Alice, Anna, and I had figured out.
His car survived the ride, but just barely. There was a very fine hint of handprints on the steering wheel which shocked me. I was sure it was going to snap off.
Alice wasn't happy with me when we all got out of the cars. "You had to tell him now?"
Edward glared at her. "That's what you've been hiding from me this whole time." He challenged her.
Jasper stepped in front of Alice. "We'll discuss this later, but right now we need to get ready for our guests."
I felt myself relax and couldn't fight the sigh of relief. Jasper's powers were definitely going to come in handy right now.
"Is there time for a quick run?" I found myself asking.
My eyes were adjusting faster the closer I got to the end of the transition but it still took some time, and I wasn't sure how long it would take for the first guests to arrive.
Alice checked and shook her head. "Not really, how badly do you need one."
I brushed at the hair around my face. "I'll be fine, but should probably have one before bed."
Edward nodded but didn't reply verbally.
We all worked to turn the Cullens house into the perfect party scene.
I was working in the kitchen with Esme and Emily, when Sam walked in with Thomas.
"So you can read your worlds writing?" Sam asked intrigued.
Thomas nodded. "Very few of us can anymore, unless you're considered an elder. The Higginbothams all tried to help teach the old language and how to read it.
"I didn't know you could read it though."
Thomas snagged a cracker off my tray. "I learned at the same time Toby did."
"We have some documents down in La Push. If I went and got them would you be able to read them to us?" Sam asked hopefully.
Thomas nodded. "Of course, I'd be happy to." He tried to grab another cracker but I pulled the tray back out of his reach.
I followed after Emily to set the food up in the dining room with the rest of it. I was glad to see that Billy and the tribe would be getting their answers.
"Just curious," I asked Emily. "Can you and the other tribe members see the scrolls? I don't recall if Billy mentioned it."
Emily nodded. "Very few tribal members outside of the pack or the elders have seen them, but the ones who have, can see them."
Interesting.
The first guests arrived not long after all the food had been placed. Give them food and they will come, I thought.
Since this was Alice's, and Edward's and my party, I ended up being the one playing hostess. Despite slowly turning into a vampire, I was still the easiest to approach.
Our table mates were the first to arrive, and one by one the rest of the graduating class arrived. They were all looking forward to seeing the reclusive Cullens' mystery house. Especially since learning that Angela and Ben had already seen the outside of it.
I tried my best to be a good hostess and I couldn't help but be thankful for Gi and Emily who willingly helped out. The three of us were far easier to be around.
Unfortunately, Alice hadn't really thought over the party as well as she had thought. She had lights going off like a club and it had a strange effect to the vampires present.
Thankfully Duke and his natural charisma helped ease any concerns most people had.
I grabbed an empty tray with my good hand and headed for the kitchen.
"Hey, Bells." Phil followed me into the room. "I thought now might be the best time to give you this."
I gasped as I saw the device he held out to me. It was the phone that had been in the pictures. The one Toby wanted me to have. I took it carefully, unable to believe that it had been found. It had been in the stuff from my house all along.
I threw my arms around Phil and hugged him. He flinched and I pulled back immediately.
"Sorry, I'm still working on it."
Phil rested a hand on my shoulder. "It's alright, you'll get a hang of it soon."
I handed him the tray. "Do you mind? I'd like to get this somewhere safe as soon as possible."
Phil nodded to the left and I hurried to find one of the Cullens. For now, I needed it locked up somewhere safe so it couldn't be lost.
I glanced around the living room but couldn't see any of the Cullens. Something was up, I could feel it.
I knew Rose was upstairs with Anna and Cissy. They had been allowed down here for a little while but then the three of them were going to spend the night together.
I could at least give the phone to Rose and she could put it up somewhere for me.
"What's that?"
I jumped away from Jacob.
"Sorry," He mumbled apologetically.
I placed my hand in the brace over my heart. "It's alright, I just wasn't expecting you to come up behind me, Jake."
Jacob nodded to the phone in my good hand. "Graduation present?"
I glanced down then. "Basically."
He rocked back on his heels nervously. "Does that mean I can give you one too?"
I took a step back so I could meet his gaze without having to crane my neck. "You didn't have to get me anything."
"I didn't." He rubbed the back of his neck before pulling a small pouch out of my pocket.
Carefully I opened the pouch and slipped the small item out of it. A wolf figurine that looked remarkably like Jake's wolf form sat in the palm of my good hand.
It was beautiful. I held it out to Jake. "Could you put it on my charm bracelet?"
I watched as he took the little trinket in his overly large hands and carefully attached it to my bracelet.
I glanced up my gaze caught sight of Alice. She was standing at the foot of the stairs clearly having a vision. Emily wasn't too far away from her, and noticed the change in her too. She hurried to Alice's side to help hide her behavior from the humans.
I placed my hand on Jake's arm. "Thanks, I love it, but I need to go see what's wrong with Alice."
Jake followed close to me.
Alice snapped out of it as soon as we stopped in front of her.
"What did you see?" I whispered, not that anyone would be able to hear over the music that was currently playing.
"I'll be back," Alice said before hurrying up the stairs. She moved faster than she probably should have but thankfully no one seemed to notice.
"Emily could you please make sure that nothing happens down here, I need to know what's going on," I asked Emily.
She nodded and I headed upstairs, Jake only a few steps behind me.
I had a guess that they were either all in Jasper's study or Carlisle's.
They were in Carlisle's.
Esme reached for me before Edward could wrap me in his arms.
"What's going on?" Jake asked before I could.
Carlisle spared me a glance before answering Jake's question. "Victoria and her army will be in Forks in a few days."
Jake started shaking and I reached out to comfort him. Esme pulled me back slightly.
"Just give him a minute," she whispered.
Jake took a steadying breath. "This is what we've all been preparing for, so what now."
"After the party, we're going to get together and discuss the options. We need to make sure they stay out of populated areas. It would be disastrous for the reservation and the town if they made it that far," Carlisle explained.
Jake nodded in agreement. "Most of us are here now, the younger ones have gone home already but that's fine. We'll stay for the meeting.
Carlisle nodded.
I gently worked my way out of Esme's caring hold. "From now on, the girls will stay at Charlie's. They'll be safe there from Victoria and any other threat, especially if we're fighting."
Edward's eyes went straight to me, but I raised my hand towards him to stop him. "I'm not going to be fighting, but I'm not going to rule out the possibility of me being away from the girls for one reason or another."
Edward relaxed slightly, but only slightly.
"We should get back to the party." I turned away from the others and carefully walked back stairs. I could feel the strain again. My control was slipping.
Gi took hold of my elbow as I took the last step back to the main floor. "How are you holding up?"
I wasn't sure if it was because she was my second mother, or if it was simply because she was from my world, but I spilled all my concerns about my slipping control. If I didn't get a grip I would slip up in front of my graduating class. That would be just my luck.
Gi led me back to the kitchen and had me sit at the counter. As long as I was sitting down it would be easier for me to control my speed and strength.
Time flew by and soon the last of the party guests had left. The vampires made quick work of the cleanup and soon we had all gathered in the living room.
That's when I realized Duke, Thomas, and Phil weren't there.
Gi rested a hand on my shoulder. "Duke and Phil left to bring back some help for the coming fight. Thomas went to tell your dad in person. The two of them are going to set up some protection around Forks and La Push.
I nodded.
"Well Doctor Fang, what's the plan?" Embry asked boldly.
I smiled at his name for Carlisle. I already knew that some of the other wolves called him that. It started back when he first helped Paul.
Carlisle nodded for Jasper to address the group.
Jasper clasped his hands behind his back, his gaze thoughtful. "Alice sees about twenty newborns, maybe less as they make their way here. They still aren't being controlled very well." He sighed. "It's not just vampires though." He held up his phone. "Sam called, he was held up by the council who had been called together by Turner. He thought it would be safe to pass on the information to them instead of alerting the person who is tailing him now for Victoria."
My hand wrapped around Gi's unconsciously and she gave it a gentle squeeze.
Emily took Leah's hand tightly in hers too. "What did Sam tell you?"
Jasper met her gaze briefly but turned to me before answering. "Turner told them that he was certain that a trained group of hunters had joined Victoria."
I swallowed back my fears, but didn't get a chance to ask my question before Gi did.
"Did Turner give a name to the group, or just a number of hunters?"
Jasper's eyes turned curious. "He said the group was called a flight crew."
Gi grimaced but explained. "A flight crew is a group of hunters at least thirty men or more. They circle their opponents making it so none can flee."
Tanya flipped her hair over her shoulder. "So we're looking at roughly fifty people at the least, and we're what, twenty-three strong?"
Gi shook her head. "Charlie will make sure we go into this fight as evenly as possible, maybe even with the leverage on our side. He may not seem to do a lot in the other world, but he has quite a few friends who'd be able to come help out."
"So how do we keep them from entering the town?" I asked. "We need someplace we can fight them without any humans coming across us."
"The baseball field," Emmett suggested.
I nodded. "But how do we get them to go to the field?"
Eleazar pushed away from the wall he was leaning on. "That will be simple enough. "The vampires are following yours, and the little girls' scents. We can lead them into the field." He nodded to the wolves. "I highly doubt they'd follow after the wolves' scents, they won't recognize them."
"We could hide the girls' and Bella's scent with our own." Leah caught what Eleazar was suggesting. "The only scent of theirs they would be able to find would be the ones leading them to the field."
It was brilliant.
"The Hunters won't be fooled though."
We all turned to see Sam walk into the room. He stood behind Emily's chair.
He nodded to all of us. "Turner is looking into all the different techniques that they might use given the terrain around here. "He's worried though, he knows exactly when they're going to strike."
Something about Sam's words caught my mind. Gi and I shared a look and we both gasped.
"The reset."
"The reset?" Carlisle asked for the group.
I leaned back in my seat and grimaced. I turned to Gi and silently pleaded for her to explain. There was no way I would be able to. If I was to hold on to any shred of control I needed to just sit here…
That wasn't enough. I reached out both of my hands. One towards Edward who had been standing with Alice in the corner, the two of them trying to search the future as best as they could. The other one was towards Jasper.
Edward took my seat, settling me on his lap and holding me tight. Jasper took my hand and sent me calm and tranquility.
Alice moved so that she could help Jasper through her love for him.
Gi rested a hand on my knee for comfort too, before explaining.
"Every ten years the other world's magic settles around the planet. Our powers are stronger for that one day, but anything that made with our powers, the items the hunters use, Bella's information box. Charlie's gadgets he uses to fight. All of those things won't work."
"That seems like the worst day for the Hunters to fight us," Quil laughed. Most of the younger wolves there did too.
During the reset, Hunters gain their powers back for that one day.
The amount of concern in the room was agonizing.
"That's not the worst of it," I said.
Despite Jasper's powers I was still struggling to remain calm. "Certain spells become null and void, specifically the one keeping intruders out of Charlie's house."
"What about the one that keeps the Undermining from finding you in Washington?" Edward asked. His voice shook with a growl that he was really trying to suppress for my benefit.
I shook my head. "My dad was careful when he helped my cousin cast that spell. It was said during the last reset, this one won't break it."
Rose got up from her seat. "So what do we do about the little girls?"
I sighed loudly. "We already Edward's going to make sure I have the best protection, so like always the girls will stay with me."
"What do you mean like always," Emmett joked trying to lighten the mood. "The last I recall neither of the last two times were the girls with you directly. They were with Esme first and then Anna was with Jasper and Edward."
I rolled my eyes but actually found that Emmett's clever point did help slightly.
Carlisle cleared his throat to bring the attention back to him. "I would like to get together tomorrow to discuss this further but there are a few things we need to finish around here before Bella can get to bed." He held up my information back, something everyone in the room now recognized.
I grimaced but asked anyway. "How high?"
Carlisle offered me a sympathetic smile. "Eighty-nine point zero two. It is slowing down."
I nodded. Once it went over ninety it was either going to pick up speed or slow down more. Either way, the end was drawing near.
The wolves all got up to leave after quickly agreeing to meet tomorrow afternoon.
Gi got up too. "I've got to call the babysitter and let her know that we're going to be staying up here later than I thought.
I nodded.
Sam stopped me before I could head upstairs. I didn't care if Edward didn't approve, I needed to run.
"Do you know if Thomas will be coming back?" Sam asked me.
"He should, I highly doubt he'll want to miss the fight."
Sam nodded. He pulled the scrolls out of the bag he had brought with him. "The elders were really looking forward to knowing what was in these scrolls."
He unrolled one and glanced at the loops on the page mixed with Quileute writing.
Alice leaned closer to me to see the scroll better. She reached out and traced the first few words with her index finger.
"It is finally clear to me that the great Chiefs were right. Our tribes are no longer safe from this coming war, and so I will do what the Chiefs of old had suggested years before our time.
"My dear friend, forgive me. I know you don't believe the war is coming, and while it may take far more generations than we will ever see, I cannot risk our people.
"When these letters finally reach you, my work will be complete and you will be the only one left with any memories of our great histories, the truth of it all."
Alice reached for the next scroll but I stopped her.
She glanced at me curiously. "What's wrong Bella?"
I blinked at her then shook my head to clear it. "First of all, Alice, none of them could understand what you were saying."
She glanced at me curiously.
"You were speaking the old language of the Other World. And secondly," I pointed to the scroll, "you were reading the old written text from the Other World."
Alice glanced from the scrolls to me. "You could understand me though?"
I held up my thumb and index finger an inch apart. "I could only understand a little bit of it."
Alice turned thoughtfully back to the scroll. "So we'll still need Thomas to translate for us?"
I actually laughed. "Yes, Alice, we'll still need Thomas to translate.
Author's Note
That wasn't as long as I thought it would be, but it did take longer to write than I was expecting.
Who guessed that Alice would be able to read the scrolls? Are you shocked that she can read and speak the old language of the Other World?
There's still a huge secret coming up with Alice's past. It will have some similarities with her background story Stephenie Meyer wrote, but it won't be exactly the same.
P.S
This past week was very busy for me, so sadly there won't be an update for Transitionals: New Moon yet. This coming week is also going to be very busy so I won't have a lot of time to write. I won't be able to post the next chapters for Transitionals, Transitionals: New Moon, and Transitionals: Eclipse until Wednesday 02/13/19.
Because of the long wait, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Transitionals: Breaking Dawn, the first three chapters will be posted on the fourth anniversary of Transitionals. February 20th, 2019.
Until the 13th,
