Chapter 20

Once everyone had left, Edward and I took a short run. I was exhausted but was severely struggling with my control. I didn't want to chance losing control at the moment.

Jasper and Alice joined us so that Jasper would be able to help counteract my anger. It was probably only his help that kept my percentage from getting any higher that night.

The next morning was only slightly easier. While we were waiting for our huge group to join us in the baseball field, Carmen and Jasper were teaching me to meditate.

Anna settled on my lap while she worked on her own breathing. Her powers were working overtime with everything that was going on. Jasper was hopeful that this would help her too.

Alice plopped down beside Jasper. "Well, there goes my sight."

I couldn't believe she was still complaining about that. I shoved her shoulder with my good hand. She didn't so much as budge.

Alice laughed softly. "Someday Bella, but not today."

Jasper got up off the ground gesturing to the north with a nod of his head. "Sam and Jacob have arrived, and the others are almost here." He helped Carmen to her feet before taking Anna from me.

Alice took a hold of my good hand and my elbow, pulling me to my feet before he could offer his help.

"Race you," she teased before lifting me in her arms and dashing over to where the others were waiting.

Edward snatched me out of her grasp as soon as she had stopped beside him. His arm wrapped around my waist so I was pressed against his side.

I knew this would happen, we all did. The closer the time got to when Victoria's army would arrive, the more protective Edward would become.

"We ready to get this started?"

I jumped when I heard my dad's voice.

We all turned and I fought back the shock I was feeling.

A low whistle, courtesy of Emmett filled the air.

Charlie had a good side group with him. My focus was on the man standing alongside him though. I had only met him once, but I recognized him instantly. He was one of my dad's dearest friends.

Blaize Williams was one of the greatest spellcasters in the whole Other world. He had been training Melissa to use her casting powers. He was the one Charlie had called to cast the spell that allowed Anna and Cissy to go to school with me without any complaint from the school board and the staff members. He was also the one who had told Charlie to have Melissa cast the spell to hide me from the Undermining while I was in Washington, during the last reset.

Blaize offered me a smile before brushing at my hair. The wind hadn't helped me to contain it, but as soon as he removed his hand the strands stayed put despite the breeze.

"Good to see you again Bella. You sure grew up into a beautiful young lady." He reached for Edward's hand before I could thank him for the compliment. "Treat her right, or you and I are going to have problems, do you understand me, boy?"

Edward laughed at his threat, that or whatever he was thinking. "I understand sir." He clasped Blaize's hand giving it a good shake.

Charlie gently snaked his arm around my shoulders pulling me away from Edward. He then gestured to the crowd he had brought with him. "What do you think Bella?"

"Honestly?"

He nodded once.

I rested my head on his shoulder. "I feel terrible that all these people are here because of me."

Charlie surprised me by kissing my temple. "They're here for you Bella, not because of you. They came to help you, but you didn't make them come."

"That would be Charlie's fault, little missy." An older man I also recognized, tipped his head in greeting.

His companion though rolled her eyes. "Ignore my mentor little one, he heard you were dealing with a flight crew and couldn't wait to fly up here." She offered me her hand. "Star, and that old goat is my mentor Wiley."

Wiley grumbled loudly. "I'm not a goat, they call me the coyote."

"Meep Meep."

Every conversation stopped and silence settled around the field.

I really needed the ground to open up and swallow me whole.

My face radiated the fiery heat of my blush and I turned sharply to the one and a half-year-old who was smiling happily in her Auntie Rose's arms.

Despite not being able to blush, Rose looked nearly as horrified as I felt. Emmett stood beside her and he was trying so hard not to laugh at Cissy's innocent remark.

Anna too was biting her lip holding back her own giggles. As were most of our group.

Charlie leaned closer to Wiley. "Toby's youngest."

Wiley nodded. "I kinda figure that out already Charlie. That's exactly what her daddy said the first time he met me."

That did it.

I choked back my giggles with great difficulty but Anna and Emmett were lost. Jacob and Sam just a moment behind them.

Many of Charlie's friends, including himself, laughed too and soon Jasper found he couldn't handle all their emotions. He started laughing too and then the rest of us were goners.

Wiley pulled off his tattered hat and gently tapped it against Cissy's nose, covering her face with the large brim; a twinkle in his wise old eyes. "That's what I call a smarty. But now's not the time for that."

Charlie nodded briefly, dabbing at the tears of mirth that had formed in his eyes. "Alright, we need to nail down exactly what our plan is going to be."

Carlisle nodded in agreement.

"Wait a minute," Emmett hurriedly spoke up. "Is everyone here? Where's Turner?"

"Sorry, I had something I had to take care of." Turner's deep voice echoed around the field hauntingly. We all turned to see him coming from the south of the field.

He studied our large group. Mouthing the numbers as he counted how many people were here. His mouth thinned into a grimace.

"We have ten wolves that will be fighting," Sam reminded him. "Jacob and I came to hear the official plan while the others continue practicing."

Turner nodded. "Ten Wolves, fifteen vampires…"

"Fifteen, what do you know that we don't." Emmett glanced around our groups.

There were just the six Denalis and the seven Cullens. Where were the other two vampires?

Turner grinned, his eyes darted to mine and they shined with a hint of amusement. "Really it's just one more vampire, the other one is a Transitional, ninety-eight percent. I got in touch with the two and asked if they'd help lure Hunters away, but one of them finished their transition yesterday evening. As long as everything goes well, the second shouldn't finish before the fight."

That was very clever of him and incredibly brave of the one transitional.

"I appreciate it, Turner. Please let them know that, will you?"

Turner nodded. As I was saying, ten wolves, fifteen vampires, and a little over two dozen members of the Other world, we shouldn't have any trouble.

"We're going to have more than two dozen of us," Thomas told him. "This is just the group Charlie gathered. Duke, Phil and I are bringing friends too."

"Good, because with the Hunters being able to use their old powers, we're not going to be dealing with amateurs. The flight crew alone is going to have at least twenty years of experience, and their not the only hunters who are going to join her."

He shook his head before meeting everyone's gaze. "Victoria knows what she's doing, she's built up a huge army from some sort of connection to the Other world. This isn't going to be some scuffle. This is war to her."

"That much raw power and volatile nature," Jasper took a deep breath to calm himself. "We have to contain it all in this field. We can't let any of them make it to Forks, or La Push."

A thought about my part that Anna and Cissy were sharing with me. We were going to lead the vampires to the field with our scents. Leah and Jacob had already offered to then cover our scents as we went off to hide somewhere away from the field and more importantly, the fight.

I honestly believed that the vampires would be confined to the field. The Hunters though were going to be far stronger than normal. If they got away they would search the town first, and I had no doubt in my mind that all the hunters would be completely committed to the hunt. It wouldn't be a simple attack that they could stop at any moment. No this would be the actual hunt, the moment when they gave themselves over to their destructive nature. They'd either track me down or die trying.

"So what would you suggest Turner?" Carlisle asked, successfully pulling me from my thoughts and back to the conversation.

Turner's eyes closed and he bowed his head. "I work for the cleanup crew, but that doesn't make me a strategist." He opened his eyes and pierced Carlisle with them. "There's at least half a dozen strategies that the flight crew could take, each one will end up with them trying to circle our groups in, leaving us without a way out.

"The other hunters, who knows what they'll do."

"They think, then they attack," Anna crossed her arms over her chest, making herself as big as she could.

Jasper rested a hand on top of her head. "That's right Anna, we will have an advantage to that."

I tried not to think about having to be separated from Edward. He was needed here at the field during the fight and I knew that, but I really wished that we didn't have to be apart. It was bad enough that I couldn't do anything to help during this fight. Worrying about Edward was going to slowly kill me, and if anything happened to him…

Turner pulled a map out of his coat pocket. "I've set up a safe place for Bella and the girls to be during the fight, but I want Edward up there with them."

Shock went around the group.

Thomas reached out to his friend but lowered his hand. "Turner, you really want to take one of our greatest assets away from the fight. Edward's ability to read the hunters' minds…"

"Will make it where he can hear if any Hunters are coming for Bella. It's not just Victoria's allies that we have to worry about. The large number of hunters have attracted more and they won't come to the field first. Bella's ring won't work during the reset, and the Hunters will have their original powers. Even if their signs can't work they'll be able to track her."

Edward growled, startling me. I glanced up at him but was surprised to see he was glaring at Jasper instead of Turner.

Jasper lifted his hands and took a step back from Edward. "I didn't even consider it, not really."

"Whatever it is, I want to hear it," Blaize spoke with such authority that no one dared argue.

"Edward took me in his arms again. His nose burying in my hair. Whatever Jasper hadn't considered was really upsetting him.

"Jasper's thinking about having Bella in the field," My dad answered.

One look at Jasper and we all knew he was right.

Charlie crossed his arms, dropping his gaze to the ground. "If Bella was in the field, that would draw every hunter in the area to her. They would leave the town alone."

He shook his head. "Bella isn't going to be in the field. Glancing up he glared Blaize down. "If you so much as suggest it, I'll strike you down right here."

Blaize walked around the group until he was standing beside Edward and me.

Edward tensed and I reached up, running my hands through his hair in a desperate attempt to keep him calm and hopefully keep him from striking the spell caster.

Blaize caught a single strand of my hair and pulled it out with a snap. "Bella doesn't need to be there." He rubbed the strand of hair between his thumb and index finger, muttering a spell under his breath.

Suddenly, another me stood in front of me. Tentatively I poked her nose. She smirked back at me. "Do I pass the test?"

I pressed my back against Edward, slightly worried about how real the doppelganger was.

Carlisle excitedly came to study her. "Remarkable." He glanced back to Blaize. "I assume that she can lead the hunters to the field just as well as Bella would."

Blaize nodded proudly at his creation. "This way we can lure hopefully all the Hunters to the field while she's hiding on the mountain."

He waved his hand and my double vanished. "I'll have to create another one the day of, but that won't be a problem." He grinned back at me again. "As long as you don't clean out your hairbrush that is."

I stuck my tongue out at him.

He turned and started pacing beside our group. "This will definitely work, but there will be Hunters who won't even check the field. They can't check their signs but there will be some who will know that none of you would want Bella at the field."

He scratched his chin thoughtfully. "The ones who see her in the field will stay, but there will be others who won't even bother coming here. They'll just search for her, using their powers to wreak havoc until they find her.

Tanya stepped forward. "Alright, so Edward stays with Bella since he can read their minds. I'll go with Edward and Bella to help protect her and the girls. "

Kate nodded in agreement. "I will too. My gift could be useful against anyone who even thinks about getting too close to her.

"Bella, can I have a word with you?"

Everyone turned to Rose.

She readjusted her hold on Cissy, resting her hand on the back of her head. Her eyes pleading with me silently.

"You can fill me in on how the rest of the plan will go?" I asked Edward.

He nodded and I followed after Rose, knowing very well that the others were watching us.

Anna's small hand grabbed mine. She gave me an encouraging smile, but I could see that she was worried too.

Rose was still struggling with Anna's and Cissy's involvement in this. To be honest so was I.

The two of us followed after Rose and we stopped in one of the many little meadows that littered the forest.

"Once again talking in a clearing in the forest. What do you think Anna is this becoming a habit?" I asked hoping to lighten the mood, much like Emmett might have tried.

Rose turned sharply so she was facing me. "I don't want the girls anywhere near this fight." She stopped me before I could reply, lifting her free hand. "I get it, Anna was being raised like this. Cissy wasn't though, and she is much too aware of what is going on."

Anna tried to interrupt but Rose silenced her too. She squatted down so she could be at Anna's eye level. "You still have nightmares about that day," she said knowing Anna knew very well what she was talking about. "Do you want Cissy to have dreams about what is going to happen?"

Anna chewed on her lip, a habit she had unfortunately gotten from me. She finally took a step forward and hugged her aunt. "We can't be in Forks, we can't stay in La Push. You won't let me be where you are. Please don't take me away from Auntie Bella too."

Rose hugged Anna tightly to her.

"Auntie Bella's ring won't work, which means she can use her shields again. I'm safe with her, Cissy's safe with her."

I hadn't even thought about my shields. If we were fighting during the reset, nothing would be blocking my physical shield. I could fight, I could protect.

My phone buzzed, surprising me. I took it out of my pocket, seeing that it was a message from Alice.

I've got my eye on you, Bella. As best as I can. The message read.

I pocketed my phone and glanced down at Rose. She was staring up at me.

"It's my job to protect them, Rose," I told her confidently. It felt good to actually feel like it was something I could really do. "I won't let anything happen to them."

Author's Note.

This chapter was so hard for me to write, mainly because I know what's going to happen in the next couple of chapters.

There was a serious hint in this chapter of a future event in Transitionals: Eclipse, can anybody find it?

How do you think this fight is going to differ from the book? Do you think the Hunters are going to fall for the doppelganger?

Who was excited to meet Blaize? (If you don't know who that is, go check out the latest outtake for Transitionals.)

P.S

So this chapter took a lot longer than I thought it would take to write, but I kept running into plot holes I had to fix. Everything is running smoothly though, but it also means that I'm not getting three chapters out tonight.

With that being said, here is your second SNEAK PEEK for Transitionals: Breaking Dawn

SNEAK PEAK (300 words- Isle Esme)

Oh, he was going to pay. I slapped the water using all my strength, resulting in a huge wall of water that crashed down on Edward.

He laughed, unperturbed by the wave. He shook out his hair and I squealed.

I dove under the water swimming away from him. I knew he'd catch up quickly. When I turned around though and opened my eyes to see if he was following me, I couldn't see him. The world around me was a blur.

Edward's arms wrapped around me and I soon found myself floating above him. His hands brushed at my soaked hair clinging to my face.

"That wasn't very smart, Bella." His chastise wasn't very effective since his words were laced with worry.

"If I had known that my control had slipped enough that using my strength would trigger my speed too I never would have used my strength." I tried to force as much sincerity into my words.

Edward didn't speak up for a little bit but when he did I knew that I was forgiven. "You scared me when you shot forward through the water." He chuckled, "especially since you swam towards the open ocean."

"That could have been bad." I was a strong swimmer, but I wasn't as confident swimming in the ocean blue. It was one thing to swim in the waves off the coast of Isle Esme, but farther out.

No way. It wasn't going to happen.

"Shall we…"

My stomach decided to interrupt him then to demand some food.

The two of us laughed together and Edward headed for the shore.

With my percentage past ninety percent, it didn't take very long for my eye sight to return to me. It still took longer than my hearing which tended to return almost immediately now.

I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and the sneak peek.

Watch out for trouble,
