Chapter 3: Confronting Kayashima

The whole time during class Sano couldn't keep his eyes off of Mizuki. The more he tried, the more he found himself staring at her. "Why was she hiding the letter? Maybe she really does still have feelings for him…wait I thought she liked me! Well I guess I just assumed she did, but maybe she doesn't, maybe she really did just come to see me jump. Why can't she just realize how much I love her? If that's the case, wow do I feel…"

Tap Tap Tap

"Sano!"

"Huh, what?" Sano glanced up to find the subject of his thoughts hovering over him.

"The bell rang; you're going to miss lunch if you keep staring off into space like that." Mizuki said as a small grin formed across her face.

"What's so funny?" Sano asked annoyed (partially because his thoughts were interrupted and partially because Mizuki was laughing at him for no apparent reason, well no apparent reason to him anyways.)

"It's just that usually you're the one to bring me back from spacing out." Mizuki almost doubled over laughing at her roommate's changing facial expressions, which didn't go unnoticed by said roommate.

"Hey, I wasn't spacing out, I was just thinking."

"Yea ok, whatever. Let's go. I'm hungry!" Mizuki grabbed his hand to pull him up and didn't let go until they made it to the lunchroom.

"Hm, I wonder if she even realizes that we're holding hands. If she did, she would surely make a bigger deal out of it. For now I'll just leave it, but I hope no one sees and starts asking questions. That's the last thing we need to explain…" Sano let Mizuki lead him to the cafeteria before swiftly letting go and sitting down at their normal seats.

At Lunch

"MIIIZZZUKKIII!" Nakatsu ran over so that he could get the open seat next to his crush.

"Hi Nakatsu. How are you today?" Mizuki smiled over politely while setting down her tray.

"Sooooo much better now that you're here my love! Can I sit next to you today!?" Nakatsu hugged Mizuki around the next and squeezed, cutting off her much needed air supply.

BONK

"Ow Sano, what was that for!?" Nakatsu rubbed his head where Sano hit him with his book and dramatically started crying to the rest of their friends at the table.

"Well I wouldn't have to hit you if you weren't over Ashiya all the time, give him some space. Can't you see he can't breathe?" Nakatsu looked over to their friend and noticed his heavy gasps for air once he was released. Hanging his head in shame, Nakatsu knew he needed Mizuki's forgiveness.

"Oh, sorry I might have gone a little far...Please forgive me!" He bowed to Mizuki, hoping he would accept his apology.

Not being bothered by the almost daily occurrence, Mizuki turned her attention from her overly dramatic friend and over to the quiet one of the group. "Uh it's ok Nakatsu. Anyways, Kayashima can I talk to you for a minute?"

Everyone's heads shot up and just looked at them, all having the same question floating around their heads, including Sano.

"Sure." was all he said as they left everyone for some privacy.

Outside

"So the reason I asked you out here…"

"I won't tell anyone if that's what you're worried about. And to answer you're previous question, yes, I have known since the first week you transferred. Actually I only had a feeling at first, but the more I got to know you and read your auras, the more confident I was about my prediction."

Mizuki's worried look turned into a big smile as she pulled Kayashima into a tight embrace.

"Thank you." was all she said as tears began to fall.

"Guys don't cry", Kayashima chuckled as he looked at Mizuki and wiped away her tears with his sleeve.

"Better now?" Feeling embarrassed Mizuki hid her face in her sleeve until the tears and blush went away. It was nice having another close friend know about her situation and being ok with it.

"Yea, I'm good, let's go." She followed her friend back inside, hoping the guys wouldn't read too much into this private conversation.

Little did they know that someone was watching them. As he saw them walk away, all he could do was stare in a state of shock.

Sano's POV (Ten Minutes Earlier)

"Hey where ya going Sano?" Nakatsu didn't like the fact that his friends were keeping secrets from him, especially his precious Mizuki. But that didn't give anyone else an excuse to leave the group before lunch was over.

Pausing mid-step, Sano turned back with an annoyed expression on his face. "I'm going back to my room, if that's ok with you."

"Well actually-"

"Goodbye." Sano was too caught up in finding out where Mizuki went with Kayashima that he didn't care if he was being rude. Nakatsu was wasting precious time!

"God, someone go pull the stick out of his ass. All I did was ask him a simple question." Giving up, Nakatsu sat back down and continued eating his meal. Luckily Sekime knew just what to say to get their overly energetic friend out of his slump.

"Nakatsu, don't worry, it's not you. Something has been bothering him since this morning. Whatever it is, just give him time to cool off. He even blew up at the coach at morning practice."

"Yea, I guess. Thanks Sekime. I think I want seconds now! Be right back!"

Everyone just stared with a sweat drop behind them.

(Sano)

"Why is Nakatsu so goddamn nosey!? I guess I was a little hard on him. I'll have to apologize later…now where is Mizuki and Kayashima? Does he know her secret too or did he turn "gay" for her like stupid Nakatsu did? I hate feeling like this…I'm going to talk to her to her tonight, but how should I bring it up without giving my feelings away?"

Regular POV – Mizuki and Sano's Room

Sano walked into his room to find Mizuki already there gathering her materials for their next class.

"Hey, can I talk to you?" Sano walked over to where Mizuki was and sat on the edge of the bed, but noticed that she wouldn't look at him. She was definitely hiding something from him.

"U-uh sure Sano, what's up? Are you ok? I-I mean Nakatsu said you were a bit defensive at lunch which usually isn't weird, but he said today was bad." Fidgeting with whatever she could find on her desk, Mizuki was trying to play it cool while thinking of more lies to get her out of the hole she started digging herself in this morning.

"About that, yea I was just in a bad mood. That's all, I'm fine now." She was really starting to test his patience and he didn't know how much more he could take without telling her that he knew her secret.

"Ok good, now what did you want to talk about?"

Sano got off the bed and hovered over her crouched form on her desk. Putting both hands on either side of her, Sano effectively blocked her in so that she couldn't escape his questioning. "About how you're lying to me."

Freezing from what she was doing, Mizuki realized the predicament that she was in. For now she was going to pretend that she didn't know anything and see how far that got her. "Lying? What are you talking about Sano?"

"About this morning, you said Kayashima was helping you with your homework, but I already helped you last night, remember?"

"Oh yea, well we were working on a partner project. I would've asked you, but you're not in that class."

"Too bad I'm in all your classes." With each lie, Sano got closer and closer to her until his mouth was next to her ear.

Mizuki looked down in shame, unable to come up with another excuse. She knew she had lost this round. What she didn't know what that Sano was breathing in her ear and within kissing distance if she moved her head so slightly to the left.

"Well at least tell me this, was he in here today to talk about a little secret that you've been hiding?"

Mizuki's eyes went wide as she started to panic. "O shit, he knows!"
