Just wanted to let you all know that my router died and I lost the ability to access the internet. Everything is fixed now so things should go back to normal as I had planned.
The Cullens POV of Transitionals will continue to be posted on Wednesdays, and Bella's POV of Transitionals: Eclipse will be posted on Saturdays.
I'm so excited about this chapter. This might just be a filler chapter, not too much excitement, but, it has the hilarious moment of Anna sensing Edward being dangerous to Bella.
I hope you find this chapter as funny as I do. Though the chapter is only really funny since we can read the ridiculous situation. None of the Cullens find the situation funny. Well, maybe Emmett.
This chapter is dedicated to all the wonderful support I have gotten from everyone who has reviewed.
Chapter 18
Esme's POV
I was so enjoying have the Denalis here with us. While Carlisle and the children were working and at school, I was able to spend quality time with our cousins.
Carmen and I spent a shocking amount of time together in the kitchen, cooking. Something we hadn't ever done before. It felt so human, and I couldn't get enough of it.
Tanya and her sisters would join us for a short time but eventually, the smell would get to them.
Eleazar would spend most of his time in Carlisle's office, going over all the information we had of Bella and her kind. Anything to sate his curious mind.
Naturally though once the kids got back from school, things were more exciting.
Poor Bella, though, was really busy. On top of her school work and training her shields, she had a lot to do for her cousin's companies. She didn't have a second of free time to spend with Anna and Cissy.
This time I had with Anna and Cissy though was good for everyone. Anna and Cissy loved spending time with me, and once we got Anna comfortable without Bella, the girls could stay with me at home. It would be wonderful to have the girls with me instead of having to go to the high school.
Bella no longer needed Anna there to help protect her, so the girls really shouldn't be there. They needed this time to be home before they started school themselves.
It wasn't going to be anytime soon, I feared. At the moment Anna refused to be anywhere but in the same room as Bella. Rose, who was clearly Anna's favorite person after Bella, couldn't even get Anna to join her in a different room of the house.
Cissy, on the other hand, was becoming more active. Cissy was learning how to roll over, with Emmett's help.
It was adorable to see him lay beside Cissy on the floor and show her how to roll over. He eagerly demonstrated rolling from his back to his stomach repeatedly for the baby.
Cissy was doing an amazing job. In a short amount of time, she had managed to make it to her side, and she was determined to make it all the way. Her face would scrunch with determination as she struggled to complete the motion.
Everyone who got a chance to watch Cissy, couldn't help but encourage her. This time was special for all of us; I was glad the Denalis were getting a chance to enjoy it as well.
They were all excited to help out with the girls and their accomplishments. Eleazar helped me set up a board so that we could measure Anna. I didn't want to attach it to a wall though; that way I could take it with us whenever we had to leave.
Anna was thrilled when we measured her the first time, though it took Tanya and Carmen a little while to get her calm down and stand still long enough for me to measure her.
Kate and Irina would record Emmett and Cissy's rolling sessions, and when they didn't have the camera, Emmett would.
Carlisle, of course, was keeping a detailed record of Cissy's and Anna's growth and development. I knew for a fact he was comparing theirs to that of the human world's children.
I'd never been more thankful to have Bella and the little girls in our lives. Getting to have these moments none of us thought we'd have, was wonderful, but to see the change in my children was even better.
I loved my children dearly, and it hurt me to see the pain they would have forever carried if it weren't for Bella and her younger cousins.
Changing into a vampire had saved Rose's life, but it had left her in a dark place. Her dreams had been taken from her, but now with the little girls, they were finally coming true. Rose cared for Cissy eagerly. Willing to do everything the baby needed from her. Anna though, bless her little heart, she craved the maternal care and more often than not went to Rose to get it.
I didn't mind, Rose needed this, and of course, I was there whenever she needed help or when she was worried she was doing something wrong. I didn't think I'd ever see Rose insecure but she definitely was when it came to the little girls.
The change in Rose was drastic, but she was finally able to be the person she would have been if she hadn't of been changed. Most importantly though, she no longer hated what and who she was.
Edward thankfully had changed in that regard too. Having Bella and her destiny to become one of our kind was nothing short of a miracle. Edward could no longer deny what the rest of us–minus Rose but she does believe it too now–truly believed. We really weren't soulless monsters.
Then, of course, there was Jasper. Oh, how I had struggled with him, unable to help him see just how strong he is. Now even after this short time around Bella and the girls, I had a hunch he wasn't even thinking about his thirst.
Emmett, Alice, and I had to admit myself included, didn't have too many problems being happy with this life like the others. We all willingly accepted it, mostly with gratitude for this second chance.
Carlisle, my dear husband, while he accepted this life for the most part gracefully, he had the burden of the choice to change us. That burden had haunted him for years especially Edward's and Rose's changes. Now, there was no doubt; he had made the right choice.
Edward's POV
The Denalis were leaving. None of them really wanted too, but at the same time, they thought it would be best to go home.
Bella was doing better shielding the others minds from me while we fought, so Kate's powers weren't needed anymore.
Our cousins all agreed that Bella would have an easier time with her shield if there weren't so many people around, though they made sure not to let Bella know their leaving had anything to do with her. So they decided to head back home even though they really wanted to stay longer with us. Bella and the girls had definitely been accepted by our extended family.
I clapped Eleazar on the back, the last of the cousins for me to say goodbye to.
"Where did Bella get to?" Tanya asked, scanning over our group.
Wasn't Bella with us? A quick scan proved that she wasn't and I started to panic. Why would she wander off?
"Calm down." Kate sensing my panic let me know that she had left Bella around the house. She even showed me the conversation the two of them had.
"Feel free to call me whenever. I'll come down in a flash." Kate had her arm around Bella's shoulders, grinning brightly. "It was nice to help with someone else's powers while getting to work with mine too."
Bella nodded, a soft smile on her own lips. "I'm going to be busy for a little while, but we should find some time to get together."
Kate gave Bella a look of pure happiness. "I would love that Bella." She grasped Bella's hands in hers. "Until next time Cousin."
She had taken off when she had seen the sad but thoughtful look on Bella's face, knowing that she needed to be alone.
After a brief nod of thanks, I rushed to Bella's side. There was a smile clearly on her face, but it didn't completely settle in her eyes.
I ran a hand lovingly over her face, wanting to comfort her. She jumped though, she clearly hadn't realized I was there.
"I'm sorry."
She wrapped her arms around my neck and the look she gave me was one filled with love. "You're forgiven."
A shiver of delight ran through me and my eyes dropped to her lips for a second. My stomach felt like it had been full of lead. I hated how I had to pause to judge my control, but I couldn't get carried away with Bella. I couldn't lose control with her.
Maybe I was over thinking this. But did it really matter if I was? I wasn't going to chance hurting her.
I didn't want to hurt her, but as long as I remained in control I wouldn't, so I won't. Mind over matter. It seemed simple enough, so I leaned in to kiss my love.
Auntie! Anna's panicked thought was followed by her sheer desperation to get to Bella's side.
I panicked for a brief moment wondering what was wrong before I heard it in Jasper's mind.
What in the world? Anna's feeling danger, but that other one is the sensation Edward gives off.
Well, that was certainly hard to hear. Maybe Mind over matter wouldn't work. Life was surely mocking me.
I braced myself for the onslaught of questions as the others hurried to our side.
Anna struggled against Rose, trying desperately to get to Bella. Her thoughts just crying out to her aunt.
Is everything alright? Carlisle.
I don't sense any other powers around. Eleazar.
Anna seems really upset, is everything alright? Esme.
The poor thing seems traumatized. Tanya.
What were you doing back here? Whatever it was really worrying Anna. Jasper.
I don't see anything happening, do you hear anyone? Alice.
Maybe it would be best if we all went inside. Carmen.
Anna hasn't been this upset since Chicago. Rose.
If Anna senses something bad, maybe we should stay longer. Kate.
I don't notice anything out of the ordinary. Irina.
Something really has Anna scared. What could have set her off? Emmett.
Bella took Anna and settled her on her hip while Anna placed her hand on Bella's cheek, letting her know I was dangerous.
I reached for Anna's hand, knowing that Bella would feel so much worse about the situation if she knew that I knew what Anna had felt. As I had assumed Bella tried very hard to keep me from finding out.
"It was a false alarm," she said, quickly passing Anna back to Rose.
Of course, none of us believed that. In fact, the blatant lie made me worry about what else Bella has ignored, that she didn't want to believe could be dangerous to her.
She sighed, clearly not wanting to deal with this. "You know how Alice's powers are based on decisions?" We nodded and she continued. "Anna's powers will pick up a generic sensation. But because of the person's decisions, it can change."
Well, that made me feel slightly better knowing that.
"So that's what happened?" Alice challenged Bella silently, she knew that Bella was hiding something, all of us knew.
"Yes Alice, that's what happened." Bella glared back at Alice.
We all watched as some sort of switch was flipped in her thoughts. I was really surprised and admittedly a bit proud when I could no longer hear Rose's thoughts. Bella was so determined to keep me from learning about Anna's sense of danger from me, that she had put her shield around Rose. It was remarkable, especially with her sporadic control.
I couldn't let her see that I was happy about this though; so I glared at her. "I can't hear Rose's thoughts anymore."
She ignored me. "Okay Anna, show Rosalie what you felt."
Rose took in the sensation Anna showed her and her eyes narrowed. I didn't have to read her mind to know what she was thinking. She was trying to figure out what I could have done to give off a dangerous sensation.
"Everything's alright." Dropping her voice out of Bella's hearing range she added, "though, I am surprised that Bella seemed to forget that you can read Jasper's thoughts, so you know what Anna is feeling."
I blinked deliberately so Rose knew that I did know. Jasper sent the sensation to the others, letting them know what Anna had felt.
Thankfully they didn't let on that they had felt it. Turning to question me, would alert Bella.
"Life here sure isn't boring," Tanya joked. At least you know that the sensation didn't mean you were going to hurt Bella, it was just generic as Bella put it. She laughed silently.
Goodbyes were said again and the Denalis headed back for Alaska.
The rest of us went inside.
Carlisle went to get ready for work, and Esme followed him upstairs.
Jasper and Emmett made me play some video games with them, while our mates were sitting around the living room.
Alice was playing with the girls and it sounded like Rose and Bella were on their phones texting. It wasn't long before I heard laughing. I had a feeling if I wasn't a vampire, that I would have blushed, for I figured Rose was talking with Bella, about what Anna had felt; more importantly what we had been about to do before Anna panicked.
Rose got up and stopped beside Anna. "Anna, would you come upstairs with me?"
"Will Auntie Bella come too?" I heard Anna ask.
There was a pause before I heard Rose speak up. "Your Auntie is going to practice her shield."
"But Edward's playing." I could also hear the pout in Anna's voice.
"Yeah and Jasper and I don't want him to cheat." Emmett griped annoyingly while trying to help.
"It's not like he can turn his powers off," Bella growled before I could.
Emmett grinned cheekily. "That's where you come in baby sis."
Alice tried bribing her. "If you come upstairs with Rose and me, I'll take you shopping."
Anna's excitement fluttered. Shopping, I love shopping, but I love Auntie more. She'll be in the same house. And we'll take her with us shopping. Ok.
Emmett had paused the game so we could all see whether or not Alice's plan would work. It did of course and we watched as Bella's mouth fell open in shock. The three of us couldn't help laughing at that. I really couldn't help thinking how adorable Bella and Anna were acting.
As Alice and Rose took the girls upstairs, Alice, had a brief vision. Bella was asking her if bribing Anna was a smart thing to do.
Alice chuckled softly. "Tell her everything will be fine."
So Jasper did.
Bella nodded slightly and Emmett broke the silence.
"So are you going to help us out or not?"
"I'm not going to use my powers to help you win a game, that isn't even affected by whether or not Edward can hear your thoughts."
I couldn't help it, I grinned at hearing Bella's declaration. I won the game as quickly as I could so that we could head up to my room.
Besides I had more pressing matters than playing a video game with my brothers. My sisters were trying to talk with Anna about what she had felt before, and try to help her understand that there isn't anything for her to worry about. They had faith that I wouldn't hurt Bella.
As I headed up the stairs with Bella I had wanted to help convince Anna, but Alice stopped me.
Let us handle it, Edward. Anna knows you wouldn't want to hurt Bella, but she doesn't want to ignore what she is feeling.
So I listened to Alice and just headed straight for my room, listening to my sisters as they talked with Anna.
Everything will be alright Edward. Esme's thoughts called to me. Just be patient.
I could handle that. I thought to myself.
Bella and I sat in comfortable silence until I couldn't stand it. Usually, I enjoyed the silence, but right now it was too much.
"You do know I can hear everything my sisters are saying to try to convince Anna I'm not dangerous to you; right?" It was true, even though I was trying to block out the conversation for their privacy.
"I had hoped they'd whisper so you wouldn't hear." Bella glanced up at me, her face seemed nervous. What was wrong? She didn't think I was dangerous to her, did she? That didn't make any sense. Bella was so adamant about how I couldn't hurt her, and how she could protect herself.
Whether or not she was thinking that, I couldn't let Bella have any reason to be afraid of me. Especially for such a silly reason. Moving faster than she would be able to comprehend, I leaned in and kissed her. My hand cupped her cheek carefully despite my speed. Further evidence that I wouldn't hurt her.
She blinked repeatedly, her skin flushed.
I fought back a laugh and stopped at just grinning at my love. "Sorry, I made a quick decision so it wouldn't alert Anna or Alice."
The whole household of vampires now had to know what I had done, given the conversations they couldn't help of heard. The very idea made me chuckle.
Not even a second later Alice squealed loudly. The noise echoed throughout the house.
"Alice, leave them alone," Esme spoke only loud enough for us vampires to hear.
"Alice," Bella pressed her face into my chest, incredibly embarrassed.
I tried to comfort her by rubbing her back. "It's okay, Love"
Alice knocked on the door but let herself in before she was welcomed. She was practically vibrating with her excitement.
I let her see how annoyed I was. "Can we help you?"
She grinned with such a look, I only ever imagined it on the vile cat from the story of Alice in Wonderland. Naturally, I would never mention that to Alice. She didn't enjoy the comparisons that, Emmett usually drew between her and that story. "Oh, it's the other way around."
I shared a glance with Bella but she clearly had no idea what Alice was talking about.
We turned back to her and Bella asked, "what are you talking about Alice?"
Alice didn't answer, instead, she showed me a vision of what would have been our technical first kiss. That quick peck I had given her, couldn't be considered the first one. Bella hadn't had a chance to participate.
Clearly, I wasn't going to be a bad kisser as Emmett joked about, but Bella's enthusiasm would be too much for me. It would be difficult to curb that. But Anna really would have sensed danger from me, if I suddenly had to turn into a statue so I wouldn't hurt Bella.
Just keep her still. Alice suggested as she fled from the room.
Sighing, I shook my head and met Bella's curious brown eyes. "Don't move."
She tried her best to still, but the anticipation caused her to shake slightly.
I was practically bursting with anticipation too. I was eager for this real first kiss, and a part in the back of my mind was carefully listening for Anna's mind.
As our lips met and I heard nothing from Anna, I let myself enjoy the situation.
I couldn't ignore the sudden rush of blood through Bella's face, but the majority of my attention was preoccupied with the kiss. Being able to share in this contact was more than I had at once believed possible.
It was definitely an action I would be partaking in more often.
When it ended I fought a groan. I couldn't forget that Bella needed to breathe after all.
"Are you alright?" I asked before Bella could.
She nodded, before chuckling softly. Her face had a nice pink tint to it, making her face and especially her eyes, bright. "I'm fine, but how are you?"
Moving slowly so I could gauge her feelings, I pressed my forehead against hers. "I'm wonderful."
Her gaze swept over my face looking for something, but there was nothing to see but my inextinguishable joy.
Edward, Rose has Anna content at the moment, and Alice wants to try something new. Meet us in the backyard. Jasper called to me in his thoughts.
"Come on Love, Jasper's getting some stuff ready outside." I gave her another chaste kiss and helped her up.
Jasper was out back with Emmett, the both of them were excited. A quick glance in Jasper's mind let me see what Alice was up to.
"Okay, we need to make sure nothing bad happens today." Jasper's voice had a firmness in it, which he pointed at Emmett.
Oh come on, Emmett groaned silently.
Jasper didn't pay any attention to Emmett's glare at him. "Alice promised Anna, that nothing would happen. If everything goes well this will help Anna let go."
Emmett crossed his arms over his chest. "So what are we going to do?"
"We're going to play a game," Alice announced as she stepped up to Jasper's side. "We're going to have a challenge," She continued happily. She didn't seem to notice Bella's suspicious glare. "You'll be with me Bella, and the guys will try to find us."
Bella opened her mouth, obviously to object but Alice hurried on.
"They aren't allowed to use their sense of smell and Jasper won't cheat by following what you're feeling." She flashed her husband a grateful smile, while I rolled my eyes.
Emmett glared teasingly at me. "Yeah, Jasper knows not to cheat."
I growled back at him. "I can't turn it off, Emmett."
Neither can I, Jasper sent me.
I turned to glare at him but Esme's voice floated out of the house sharply.
"Boys, behave."
Our group fell silent until Bella asked Alice to explain the challenge. "Okay Alice, feel free to explain."
Alice was all too happy to explain, at least that's what I thought. Instead of explaining she grabbed Bella and took off into the forest.
"What are you doing?!" I heard Bella yell.
My instincts screamed at me to go save my mate from my sister but Jasper flooded my body with calm.
We all listened as we caught Alice's attempt to calm Bella. "Don't worry Bella, I won't let anything bad happen."
"You didn't answer my question." I just barely heard Bella's reply.
After giving Alice a decent head start we headed out. I kept speed with my brothers since I was the fastest. Following Alice's scent would have been too simple, so to make it a little harder, we were going to use some human tracking strategies.
Jasper and Emmett were better at this than me, something Emmett delightfully pointed out. His skills couldn't compare to Jasper's though.
Jasper was by far the best tracker I had ever encountered. His skills, which came from his training in the civil war, and from his time in the Southern vampire wars, were perfect for this exercise.
Alice though was good at leaving as little a trail to follow. Even after a half hour following what little trail there was, Jasper was starting to worry that we wouldn't catch up to them before it was time to get back to the house. A loss like this one was something none of us wanted to admit to.
I was really starting to get nervous when an hour had passed and we hadn't caught them yet.
What I didn't realize was that we were practically on top of them. We rushed into a small clearing where Bella and Alice were, almost running them over. It took us a second to realize why they had stopped.
Alice was having a vision.
Carefully so I wouldn't disturb Alice, I took Bella from her. Alice didn't notice. She didn't even notice when Jasper wrapped her in his arms.
"What is she seeing?" He turned and asked me.
I couldn't get anything from Alice, Bella's shield was up at the moment.
Alice snapped out of it with a shake of her head.
"What did you see?" Jasper was sensing a slight nervousness from Alice which was only worrying him.
Alice tried to keep her voice relaxed. "We're going to have some visitors, nomads; a group of three." She tried to search to see the exact time but couldn't pin it down. "They know we're here, but I'm not sure when they will arrive."
With her uncertainty, we all knew it was time to get back to the house and alert the others.
I helped Bella onto my back while warning her as calmly as I could. "Until they leave, I'm not letting you out of my sight."
"Yeah, and Rosalie and Esme will be watching the girls like hawks," Emmett was quick to add.
Jasper checked the surrounding area and thankfully didn't sense anything. "Come on let's go back."
Alice nodded. "That's enough training for tonight. Besides, we don't want to push Anna too far tonight. We don't know how long she'll tolerate Bella being gone before…" She decided against finishing her thought.
We all knew what Anna would do when her tolerance ran out.
As I ran back to the house I focus my mind on checking Bella's information to box to see how well she has managed to keep Alice's mind shield. It was obvious that she hadn't kept it up for the whole time we were chasing them. Seeing as she wasn't exhausted or asleep.
Maybe I should have carried her in my arms instead of on my back, just in case. Though she didn't seem tired.
Author's note.
Well there you have it, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. I wish I could have gotten it to you sooner, but that is life. Thank you all once again for your patience.
Who is excited for the baseball game in the Cullen's POV? I know I am. I can barely contain my excitement. I'm also looking forward to before the game.
I can't believe how close to the end we are getting. I'm actually getting nervous.
Until next time,
