Woo I actually got back to this story and wrote chapter 2! Man this is another story I haven't updated in forever. Mainly cause I kept getting writers block and also distracted with other stories. But now I am trying my best to get back to all my older stories. So here we go. Enjoy!
September 2018 Update. I have gone back through this story and updated it as best as I can.
Ch.2
Day 111
Roxas woke the next morning and headed to the Grey Area to receive his mission as usual. He walked up to Saix and got the info about his mission for the day. But before he left, he still had something on his mind that he wanted to ask about.
"So… Is Maria okay?" Roxas asked.
"Do not be cornered with her. I will soon be finding out whatever she...or it... is…" Saix stated.
"Hey! That's rude. You shouldn't say that about her," Roxas retorted.
"It is clearly not normal. So until we figure out what it is, I will call it whatever I feel." Saix replied. His tone was harsh, but still cold and emotionless. "Go carry out your mission."
Roxas grumbled as he headed out of the castle and went on to his mission. "I do hope Maria is okay. Having to spend the night in one of the cells...I'll have to make sure to stop by and see her, after having ice cream with Xion and Axel."
While Roxas was out on his mission, Saix walked to the area where the holding cells were. He walked up to the one that held Maria. Inside the cell she was asleep on the fast asleep on the floor. Her Heartless attentes twitched every once and awhile as she slept.
Saix crossed his arms. "Wake up," he said in a cold, stern voice.
Maria stretched as she slowly sat up and rubbed her eyes, "Hmh… what?" She looked around and saw the cell she was in. "Where… Oh yeah….I'm here." After she spoke, her shoulders slumped as she let out a sigh.
"Who are you?" Saix confronted her.
Maria looked at Saix and replied. "I'm Maria."
"Now I have some questions for you, and I expect answers. Where did you come from? And how did you show up in The World That Never Was?"
"I… I don't know...I just remember waking up there…." Maria said.
Saix narrowed his eyes. "Hmm… And you say that you do not know why you look the way you do?"
Maria nodded. "I don't know how or why I look like this… I just...I don't remember anything really before waking up in that place out there."
Saix paused for a moment as he thought. "You are something that should not exist."
Maria gasped. "Why would you say something like that!? That's not very nice."
"You are a girl and yet also a Heartless. It just isn't something that should happen."
"I don't understand... If it can't happen, why do I look like this?" Maria asked.
"That is what I intend to find out," Saix said as he walked away, leaving Maria to be alone again.
Once she was alone Maria looked down at her hands, still covered by her gloves. She slowly pulled them off and saw her hands. Like half her face, her hands were also covered in inky blackness, but her hands were much worse. Both hands were almost completely covered in the inky black. Maria then pushed up her sleeves and let out a gasp of surprise. The black has also spread up her arms. The inky black was everywhere.
Maria buried her face into her hands. She wanted to cry. She had no idea what was going on and felt so lost. Yet she couldn't bring herself to cry. She just sat there for the longest time, wanting to cry.
Sighing she pulled down her sleeves and put her gloves back on. She layed back down on the floor of the cell, and then she curled up, putting her knees against her chest, and holding herself tightly.
"What's happened to me? What...What is going to happen to me…? I just wish I knew..." She thought to herself.
A little while later she heard footsteps approaching the cell. She looked up to see Roxas standing in front of the cell now.
"Roxas…" Maria said as she sat back up.
"Hey, how are you doing in there?" he asked.
"I'm fine…I guess," Mairia said, trying her best to give a small smile.
"Here I brought this for you," Roxas said holding something through the bars for Maria.
In his hand was a stick with blue ice cream on it. Maria slowly reached out and took it from him. "Thank you…" Maria said as she looked down at the ice cream in her hands.
"You're welcome," Roxas said with a smile. "I am going to try to convince Saix to let you out of that cell and let you have a proper room. You shouldn't have to stay locked up in there."
"No!" Maria quickly shouted, shaking her head, "He… He scares me a little and he doesn't seem to like me. Don't ask him… He probably will want to keep me here...until he figures out what I am."
"But Maria, you're just a girl…" Roxas started to say, but trailed off. He knew she wasn't just a regular girl at all, but he didn't want to point that out.
"And I am also a Heartless…" Maria finished. "Whatever I am...it may be best for me to stay here."
"Don't think that about yourself," Roxas said, trying to make Maria feel better. After a moment though he sighed. "But maybe we can figure something out. Maybe Saix will find out a way to make you normal again or something."
"I hope so…" Maria muttered quietly. Her eyes shifted from Roxas to the floor of the cell. "Roxas...thank you for trying to help...but for now...I think I just want to be alone again."
"Oh...Okay...if that's what you want. I'll make sure to visit you again tomorrow. Bye," Roxas said as he started to walk off.
"Bye Roxas," Maria said.
After Roxas left Maria looked back at the ice cream, which now was starting to drip a little. She took a small bit of it, and after a moment she smiled. "Mmm, salty...but also sweet."
Later that night when Maria tried to sleep, she kept tossing and turning as a single sentence continued to tormented her mind. "You are something that should not exist."
And that ends chapter 2. It's a bit short, but I felt like it was a good stopping point.
Now finally coming back to this story I am planning out how I want this story to go.
Hope you all enjoyed! Don't forget to check out all my other stories!
