As practice came to a close, the boys huddled into the locker room to shower and change as the girls wrapped up the homework that had been done. Rei and Minako happily chatted about something pertaining to the class while Terry's mind was stuck on the paper that felt like hot lead in her pocket. The fact that she had been given a letter now just seemed to be more than mere coincidence. There was a possibility it was someone else she had missed, but that was highly unlikely. She knew very well who knew and who was there at the time.
I'm psyching myself out for nothing. It could just be a prank by Rei or something. I just need to verify the location. She had been observing Rei the entire time. The brunette gave no tells of hiding something. In fact, she was very frank and open. Her focus mostly on Marik and how much he was showing off for her now that he knew she was watching him. She would've asked if I found anything by now to make sure I found the note at the very least. Neither of them have brought up my delay at all as a front to reaffirm what I was doing. Joey would pull my leg, but he doesn't have a clue about what I've been looking into. Kaiba wouldn't be bothered to go to such lengths when he can just catch me in class or after school. Atem was with me when we had free time and we fell asleep in the nurse's office too. Plus, I've seen his handwriting. This isn't it.
"Keep frowning like that and your face will be stuck like that permanently!" A voice shouted in her ear, ripping her from her spiraling thoughts just as she was coming to the same conclusion that made her feel a deep unease. Jumping away from the source, she knocked the owner with her elbow in defence as well. "Holy shit, dammit Terry! You still got a mean hit in you!"
"Marik, geez! Don't scare me like that! Are you okay?!" She scowled at her childhood friend who was rubbing his cheek.
"Yeah, you've hurt me worse." He snickered as Rei shouted that she would grab ice for him. "So, what has you glaring at the ground like it ate the last piece of cake that you really wanted?"
"I wasn't glaring at the ground, I was thinking over to see if I had everything with me and what homework was left to do." She covered with ease. As much as she trusted Marik, she was not about to blurt out everything in front of everyone here. She would rather avoid as much panic as possible. Plus, he wouldn't know where this place is since he's been here only a short while.
Marik silently observed Terry, his eyes narrowed as he could tell she was covering the truth. It was hardly her best attempt, but that only made him wonder all the more what it was. Her terrible cover was a huge clue for him to gather she planned on telling him as soon as they were in a more suitable setting. Before he could push for such, Rei was back with ice and his attention was swept away in an instant as he gave a sly grin to Rei.
"The fact you risked getting hit by her, I don't know if you're just stupid or insane." Atem scoffed, shaking his head as Jonouchi snickered at Marik's expense.
"Well I can't complain, I'm being nursed by the lovely Rei. You can keep your jealousy, I'm not sharing her with anyone!" He huffed, throwing his arms around her waist. Startled, she dropped the ice as his cool cheek pressed against her uniform with a face as red as a tomato.
"Ew, get a room!" Jonouchi wrinkled his nose and covered his eyes. "No one wants to see your nasty flirting!"
"Make me," Marik stuck his tongue out at Jonouchi as the group laughed at the ridiculous banter between the two.
"Anyway, I think we all really should be heading home now. It's getting pretty late." Terry chimed in, breaking the fun.
"She has a point, we got a shit ton of homework too." Atem grumbled, shrugging his gym bag back onto his shoulder. "So get your ass up and get moving or we're leaving you behind." He grunted, turning and grabbing Terry's wrist to lead her towards the school gates. She stumbled a little at the initial yank, but quickly corrected herself to walk properly beside him.
"Warn me before I end up with a concussion. I've sustained more than enough head injuries thank you very much." She lightly elbowed him, the group scrambling to get ready to follow the two. "Oh, I have to ask you something. We can talk about it on the train though. It'll be easier there since I can just show it to you." She hummed, earning a questioning glance from her companion. "It has to do with the kissing crook." She whispered so that only he heard her. He gave a small 'ah' of an answer, but said no more to avoid anyone that may hear them.
The pair had a pretty good lead for a small amount of time, the others catching up as they reach the station. Standing on the platform, they conversed over all sorts of topics that ranged from school to possible future plans. They were an energetic group, grabbing the attention of the other passengers waiting with them. However, no matter how loud or excited they became Terry was once again lost in her own thoughts as she gripped the note in her pocket. Atem noticed how silent she was and it bothered him. Whatever she wanted to tell him was clearly eating away at her mind.
"I need to pick up Yugi from school, come with me." He suddenly blurted out, pulling Terry back to the present.
"Hm?" She blinked at him. "I'm sorry, I was a little lost in thought." She sheepishly scratched at the back of her head at the scowl she earned from Atem. Unamused by this, he flicked her forehead as punichsment. "Hey, I apologized!"
"Yeah, so? You're coming with me to pick up Yugi." Grabbing her wrist, he turned to Marik and Jonouchi. "I'll drop her off at home after I get Yugi. Later." Before anyone could argue, he was dragging Terry out of the station and turning to the right. He silently led her as quickly as he could around the corner before abruptly coming to a stop, Terry crashing into his back.
"Oh geez, warning next time!" She grumbled, rubbing her face as she stumbled back a few steps. "So which way to Yugi's school?"
"He's already home, I just said that so no one would be annoying about it. What did you want to tell me?" He shrugged off the small lie, releasing her wrist. "You've been lost in your thoughts this whole time, what's bugging you?" He softly asked, stepping closer to her as he hesitantly reached for her hand but only let his fingers graze against the back of hers.
"Ah, yes...well...I found something in my shoe locker." She whispered as well, her voice lowering automatically as he stepped closer and modulates to the same as his. "Nothing serious, well so far anyway." She mumbled, grabbing the letter and handing it over to him. "Do you know where this location is?" She asked, Atem taking the note. His eyes widen at the words that were written there. He knew the location, it was not a safe place and especially at that time. The fact this note was there was what really irked him. He was not amused, but he was relieved she was at least coming to him.
