(Hello again everyone. I'm back to working hard... Or was that Hardly working... I dunno really. Anyway. Thanks again for the support. Hope it's enjoyable so far. Thank you all.)
Midna sits alone on a ruined stone chair staring out over Lake Hyila.
"I do hope he comes back soon... It's kinda lonely here... And it's getting late." She sighs and lays back yawning a little. She hears some footsteps behind her as she sits up and turns around. Link walks up carrying an armful of various small logs and broken twigs and dried grass.
"You look comfortable." Link chuckles a little and drops them onto the stone and yawns a little.
"Well stone isn't actually that comfy." She grumbles sliding her hand across the stone brushing off dust.
"You get used to it after a while." He smiles a little and piles the logs lighting them as they crackle softly igniting.
"The problem is I don't wanna get used to it." She grumbles as Link removes the pouch from his waist.
"Well sometimes you don't get a choice. If I could call Epona she could bring our sleeping bags."
"Well that'd be nice..."
"Well if I remembered my horse whistle I would've but I forgot it." Link chuckles as Midna sighs loudly.
"Let me guess... Fish."
"You'd have guessed correctly." He laughs setting a few around the fire to roast.
"Well it's better then nothing I suppose." She smiles at him as he smiles back at her. The two of them sit in silence around the fire as it softly crackles as Midna glances up. She stares at the moon slightly feeling a strange kinship with it. Link glances over at her chuckling a little as he watches her stare at the moon.
"Hey Midna. Everything okay?" He asks finally breaking the silence. She shakes her head.
"Yeah... Everything is okay." She smiles a little staring back at him.
"Well good. I was worried you spaced out or something there."
"Maybe I did." She jokingly scoffed at him.
"I could tell." He lays back joining her in staring up at the sky.
"Does someone need to keep watch or something?" She asks after a few more moments of silence.
"Not tonight. This is a safe enough location and the Moon is bright tonight."
"So we can both get some sleep tonight?"
"Yeah. So if you wanna lay down go ahead." He closes his eyes.
"Well okay good." She smiles and closes her eyes feeling a slightly warm breeze blow in from the lake. The two of them quietly sleep near each other as the fire crackles softly. Link opens his eyes brefily to sit up and remove the fish from the fire piling them on a small sheet of canvas.
"Phew... Almost forgot about those." He chuckles and lays back down closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep alongside Midna. Midna wakes up grumbling softly glancing around looking for Link. Her eyes widen a little as she scans around not seeing Link nearby. She climbs to her feet and glances around rapidly as she spots him walking back towards their small camp. She sighs in relief feeling a weight leave her shoulder. He walks up and removes the cooked fish from the canvas bundle and sets them in two piles. He rummages through the bag on his waist pulling out a few bombs as he piles them around a pillar near the statue. Midna giggles a little and sits up.
"Busy this morning Hero?" She giggles and smiles as he nods stepping back from the pile.
"That should be plenty..." He nods and smiles.
"Don't you think that's a little overkill there Link?" She looks over at the pile of bombs.
"Oh no. This is just phase one. Once this falls i'll detonate the pile around the statue." He points to a large ring of bombs around the statue's base.
"Is that why you were gone?" She asks sighing a little.
"Well yeah, I left to pick up some more bombs from Castle Town." He tosses the now empty bag next to another.
"Are you sure this will even work Link?" She raises an eyebrow at him.
"Look if anything survives this blast... I'll eat my hat okay?" He chuckles double checking his setup.
"Who knows! It might go well with fish." She giggles as he pauses and laughs in unison with her. The two of them sits and laugh for a few more moments as Midna wipes joyous tears from her eyes.
"Okay that was a good one..." He chuckles a little and grins finishing his inspection.
"Everything good for the fireworks show Link?" She yawns asking after a few more moments pass.
"Looks that way to me. Mind lending me a hand?" He tosses her his bow.
"And what do I need to do with this?"
"Just shoot the base of the statue with an arrow after the pillar hits it."
"Oh alright. I can do that." She steps back as Link picks up a bomb from the pile. He lights it and steps back and rolls it towards the pile. It ominously hisses resting against the pile as it hisses louder. Midna closes her eyes after a few moments awaiitng the blast. A massive explosion rings out through the field scattering a flock of Guay into the skies. Dust fills the air as the sound of stone scraping is heard before a loud crash and the splintering of wood.
"Go!" Link barks at her as she squints through the dust and lets an arrow fly. It hits the mark followed by a hiss and second blast as fragments of stone and wood fly along with the dust. A few shards fly past Midna as she winces in pain as a stone chunk cuts her cheek. The dust finally settles after a few moments as Link uncovers his face from his arm.
"Well that worked... A little too well..." She grumbles touching the scratch on her cheek.
"Something hit you? You could've covered your face."
"I didn't have time to. Was kinda busy making sure I didn't miss."
"Well here. Let me check." He leans in close to her as she stares back at him.
"I-It's fine Link..."
"Looks fine to me. Wasn't too deep. Now come on. Let's check the wreck." He chuckles and leans away from her. She nods and follows him up to the now splintered and shattered remains of the owl statue. Link jams his gauntleted hand into the splintered mass and fishes around.
"A-Are you sure that's safe Link...?" She watches him fish around with his hand.
"Yeah. Totally safe nothing to worry about." He pauses in silence not moving his hand for a moment.
"Link? Is something the matter?" She asks drawing in closer to the boy. Link bursts into a small shout and howls in pain as he swiftly drags his hand his howl fading to laughter as Midna falls backwards onto the stone floor.
"Oh... Oh that was too good." Link wipes a tear from his eyes and catches his breath.
"T-That wasn't funny Link!" She scowls at him as he smiles and softly chuckles.
"Oh but then you'd be telling a lie Midna and you know it." He chuckles removing some choices chunks of an unknown material that resmembles a mix of stone and wood.
"It was not funny Link! Not at all!" She scowls at him harder.
"Whatever you say Princess." He chuckles again softly piling up the scrap into a small bag he ties to his hip.
"W-Whatever Link... So what's next on the list." She grumbles.
"Well, He said Sky Cogs would be down in Lake Hylia."
"So I suppose that's our next search target?"
"You'd be correct." He chuckles.
"Perfect. Then lets get a move on." She smiles and nods walking towards the edge of the theater and looking out over the distant landscape of the lake below them.
"Suppose the easiest way down would be by Cucco..."
"Well. I suppose we could dive down off the bridge as well."
"Yeah, But that always leaves me super sore from the fall so maybe we'll take the easy way down..."
"Well fine Mr. Big Tough Hero." She giggles a little to herself.
"Whatever. Come on. We got a ways to go before we can get there. Some come on."
"Alright, Alright, Always in a rush aren't we Mr. Hero."
"Someone's gotta be right? Might as well be me." He sighs a little as she looks a little taken aback not realizing that'd upset him.
"R-Right. Let's get a move on then." She nods and follows him as they head north from the overlook. They continue north as they arrive on the opposite of the bridge leading over the lake as Link paths towards a large building on the cliff face. She quietly follows him still feeling a small bit of remorse for accidently upsetting him once again. Link throws the door open and walks past the empty counter to a group of cuccos milling about on a platform overlooking the lake. In the middle of the lake sits are large empty floating wooden platform. She watches as he scoops up a cucco and stares out for a moment before charging towards the edge. She nods and quietly sinks into the shadow as he leaps off the cliff and into the air as the cucoo furiously begins flapping. He slowly descends towards the water's surface as he releases the cucoo and drops into the water with a loud splash. His head pops above the surface as he swims through the clear waters of the lake towards the shore and climbs out shaking himself off.
"Well... Here we are." He smiles a little wringing the water out of his hat.
"Mhm... So now all we have to do is find all those cogs right?"
"Mhm." He pulls out the piece of paper still dry from being kept in his pouch.
"Thank the goddess's that your pouchs are waterproof."
"Well I mean. Better safe then sorry right?" He chuckles a little.
"But how are we gonna check the bottom of the lake without your Zora Armor?"
"You know what Midna, That's a good point. I suppose i'll need to send a message."
"Well I can deliver it if you want." She smiles at him.
"Are you sure you'll be safe without me?"
"Of course I will be! You don't trust me do you?" She scoffs.
"Well of course I do. Just more worried then anything."
"W-Well... Thank you. But i'll take care of it okay? Epona has it right?"
"Of course. But she'd be back at Castle Town. So you'd have to go fetch her or my armor. Your choice really." He chuckles and sits on the ground.
"Perfect! I'll be back in no time Link!" She smiles and giggles a little as she sinks into the shadows. He nods and lays back on the soft grassy shore of the lake.
"Suppose i'll be fine without for her while... Wonder what's been bothering her lately..." He looks up at the sky tracing his fingers around the clouds as he lays alone on the shore. He stares up following the clouds as they lazily drift across the dimly lit sky.
"I wonder if Link's okay..." She thinks aloud as she materalizes out of a portal just ouside of the city.
"I'm sure she's fine. Maybe we should take a break when we return with all this stuff..."
"Maybe he needs a break... Maybe after we make his new toy." She giggles.
"That sounds like a plan to me honestly..." He says aloud to nobody at all. Midna smiles and heads into Castle Town with a smile on her face as Link smiles on the shoreline.
(Well. Late again I suppose... Sorry guys. Things have been difficult lately but i'm working through them one day at a time. I hope things are going good for you all. Hopefully i'll be better about this. And I wish you all a great day and thank you again for reading and taking an intrest in my story.)
