The first time he sees her he is filled with things he doesn't understand. He has survived the war and all it entails, and yet, when they meet, he is a vessel of hollow memory, filled with pain and ruin. His throat is crushed, rent open, ripped out, his skull scattered in sodden red fragments. He is conquered and he dies, but he comes back again and again, back to her because he can't leave until he's forced to. He is gutted, he is broken, and though they never reach for it, his heart is torn from his chest and falls at her paws. He dies in a lonely alley and she leaves him far, far behind.
But that's already happened. He will die for her all over again.
