TWEWY: A Fall Into Honor:
This story is about how Joshua became the Composer. The story is from Joshua's point of view, and others if the story needs to. This is a prequel of the game The World Ends With You. TWEWY is made by Square Enix. And I own the OCs. This is a FAN FICTION and not the real prequel. Enjoy! =3
Week 2, day 1:
Chapter 34: A New Round:
Diana sat in her quarters tensely; her eyes were trained on the folder Kazumasa had given her to inspect.
The bundle of pages she was looking over had information about the person: where he lived, friends and family, his birthday, how he died, his nature, his actions over the week, what actions he had when he still lived, his day to day basis he did… The amount of things about the person went on and on, it would take hours to read through it all.
But the topic she was reading about him was his Entry Fee: Ayumu Ki's emotions.
Such a rare thing to cherish, the minds of people were diverse, she noted. Diana had seen it all over the years she had lived and executed her duties as the Composer. However this case, Yoshiya Kiryu's, was a newfangled one.
She set down the Player File when she heard Kazumasa clear his throat, coughing raspy, as though the awkwardness between them was biting on his nerves.
Diana blinked at him. "What is it, my Conductor?"
"Ever since we have returned… you have been reading through his folder," admitted Kazumasa apprehensively. "Are you worried about him, Diana? Was it too much stress on your body?"
She shook her head and smiled in amusement. "Are you trying to say I am a mere old woman? Not fit enough to cross the street without a fool trying to offer her assistance, when she needs none?"
The fawn haired man chuckled, "No. It's just-" his chuckle diminished and his lips formed a frown. "You met him for the first time, after so very long of waiting. You are not at the richest of your strength, even when he still lived. So, I expected your powers drained…"
"True… it wanes, little by little, spikes at random, giving me ails…" mused Diana sadly and lowered her gaze. "But, I fear the path he travels. For I have seen it in my dreams… visions when I wander 'wake. I feel I have lived it, everyday and moment I take breath." She added with a pained crack in her voice, "Although now, I heartened it, to prosper, and make it come true… For I have purloined the thing he cares the furthermost… something altruistic, and dear to hold near…"
Kazumasa rubbed his thumb over the smooth ivory surface of his wooden cane. "You stole it? You meant you kept it, Diana, to spite him?"
For a minute the Composer bit her lip.
She sadly shook her head lightly. "I cannot say… For I remorse, what I have done. I hope that he is able to comprehend…"
…
Buzz filled his ears and an increasing prickle to his heart woke him.
His eyes filtered open sluggishly little by little until he stared at the cement and pebbles he first saw. For a moment he forgot where he was before he sat up and miserably scanned his surroundings.
A sigh escaped in his disappointment, "Back again, huh?"
The Scramble Crossing looked as vibrant and teeming as ever, there wasn't an inch of space left by the RG citizens. It would seem to be a busy day today for everybody, which included Joshua himself, for today was day 1 once again…
He got to his feet after another moment of observing the Scramble Crossing.
"Time for a new round... I just need to wait for the mission." Joshua said to himself, his voice was bleak from the pain he felt from sorrow.
His mind kept flickering back to the events that happened on that rooftop; nonstop as he placed his hand on his chest over the spot he felt his heart thump. He felt himself grimace; from the agony his heart was experiencing from his fresh memories.
Finally he shut his eyes tightly. "I swear, Ayumu…" he whispered in a sob, "I swear, I'll get every single emotion that you ever held back. I won't let this go!" he cried the last part out passionately to the bleak dawn coloured sky. As he reopened his lavender eyes they gleamed, he felt the boiling rage in his heart churn.
He would never forgive the Composer for this. She wouldn't hold on to his young half-brother's emotions forever, Joshua would take them back by force if he had to. Whatever it took, he would do it. All that mattered to him was making sure Ayumu returned to normal.
And speaking of Ayumu, he was nowhere in sight.
Panic gripped Joshua as he was about to run off and search for the missing blond, but that was when the jingle of his not mint conditioned cellphone stopped him in his tracks.
He let out a growl of annoyance. 'It has to arrive now!? Can't the GM see that I am busy!?' Whoever the new GM of this week didn't matter at that moment, all he wanted was to make sure Ayumu was fine. But sadly, he had to abide to the mission in order to do so and survive.
Quickly Joshua took out his orange cellphone and flipped it open, he peered at the new text message that appeared on his screen: Go to that annoying 104 place or whatever! Erase yourself if you don't care, or somehow are blind to it after t- hour.
'Wow… The GM sounds like a tough cookie that spoiled ten years ago!' thought Joshua both surprised and amused, it sounded like they didn't care about their job or despised it. He thought it would be interesting to meet this GM. Unlike Iwao who was a insane sadist who worshipped 'justice', this person seemed more rational and against the system of the Reaper's Game.
He returned his cellphone to his lonely pocket before he realized something. 'I still have Ayumu's cellphone! I should really give it back when I find him. It might be better that he has it, in case I need to find him if I lose sight of him again.' Right away, Joshua groaned. He made a bad pun…
Instantly Joshua winced when the normal searing pain shot through his palm, he saw the infamous timer. He got used to the pain now, despite the fact he hated it. "Ngh…"
He grumbled to himself as he rubbed his palm tenderly, "If I were in charge, I would definitely get rid of the pain." he let out a yelp and he shook the timer's hand wildly, "Jeez, it hurts! Who's idea was this in the first place?"
With a sigh he knew he had to find Ayumu, rather than focusing on something so meaningless as this.
For a while, the ashen blond wandered around the area in hopes to spot the slightly messy blond and golden tipped hair of his half-brother.
Passing by recently made Pacts who were newcomers to the game, he chuckled to himself knowing that they had no clue about anything around here, when he had a vast amount of knowledge himself. It was as though he was cheating by knowing about anything about the UG or what it was long before anybody else did, before any RG citizens died and awoke here as new Players as fresh as recently fallen snow. It didn't faze him or make him feel guilty, for it wasn't his fault he could see the Reaper's Game occur before his very eyes when he alive, nor was it that he knew the Producer personally who could explain to him everything about it.
Just as he halted to take a break due to his fatigue, he heard a shrill scream making him flinch. Straightaway he looked to where he saw Noise ganging up on a girl with short, smoky black hair. As far as he could tell, the girl was alone, without a Partner, fresh meat for all the Noise…
Without thinking he found his feet drag him over to the girl, his fatigue making him huffing and wheezing.
After shoving his way through the distracted Noise, he put himself in front of the girl whose face was transfixed in terror.
"Make a Pact with me!" urged Joshua franticly and let out wheezes afterwards.
The smoky black haired girl gave a whimper, timidly saying nothing, blue green eyes flashing in terror. She pressed herself closer to the building wall as one of the swift yellow Wolf Noise snapped at her ankles. It was like she was a scared owl, trying to shrink as small as possible from the danger it feared.
Joshua bit his lip in frustration. 'Oh no, she's scared of me as well as the Noise! How will we survive if she doesn't form a Pact with me? I need to get her to trust me, and soon!'
"You'll be safe," reassured Joshua trying to keep his voice gentle, if he indicated how scared he was to her she probably would get more frightened. He had to show her that he was a friend, not a threat. "I promise you." He offered a hand behind himself and he heard her whimper again. "Please… trust me." he turned his head to smile at the girl.
The girl timidly studied him and his hand a couple of times then finally gave Joshua a weak smile, she nervously placed her dainty hand in his own.
Her hand had soft skin, Joshua noted mentally while flinching a little. He didn't even notice the display of dazzling lights dancing around them as his heart and hers connected for the Pact.
The next second they were thrown into the battle zone.
By the looks of it, Joshua's new Partner was shocked by the change of scenery, but it didn't surprise him because of how obvious it was that she knew nothing about the UG in general that she now resided in.
A snarl caused Joshua to spot the fast Wolf Noise sprinting for them. Without any hesitation, Joshua let go of the girl's shaky hand and thrust her out of the way. "Watch out!" When the Noise struck Joshua, his Partner cringed and shrieked in alarm.
The lavender eyed boy recovered from the blow and got to his feet, feeling somewhat dizzy from crashing roughly onto the road.
When his senses felt clear enough, he healed himself with Rosetta Restore. But from seeing how petrified the girl was from watching him use his Pin, he gave her a shout, "It's alright! I'm fine! Find a way to defend yourself!"
The girl gave a unsure nod before she turned her head back and forth searching until Joshua saw her run over and grab a car's crooked tailpipe, it had been sprawled nearby the red car it came from with other car parts.
But then the same Wolf Noise was racing back to Joshua and gave a mighty leap at him, luckily Joshua evaded by sidestepping twice while changing direction. Now he was directly behind the Noise as it landed, so Joshua took a risk to use his Breezifreeze Pin to raise a shield of hail when the Noise tried to pounce on him again. It crashed into the hail-wall with a sickening thud, and Joshua showered it with the hail psychically when it was dazed.
Just as he was going to use his Transflaration Pin on the yellow pelted Wolf Noise, an earsplitting scream made Joshua lose his focus for a split second, allowing the Noise he was fighting to chomp down on his ankle. Joshua let out a gasp of pain, instantly snapping his right eye shut while his left eye was shut halfway when he grimaced.
Instead of using any of his Pins, he grabbed the furry head of the Noise and crushed it with his psychic powers. As the head exploded along with the rest of its body, Joshua used all of his strength to hoist himself up to his feet. He faltered slightly while standing, leaning on his lamed ankle.
After sucking in breath as a way to try to tolerate the pain, Joshua saw his Partner standing by two medium sized holes. Two yellow Shrew Noise leapt out of them in sync to try to swipe their tattooed claws at her.
The girl crouched down in cower and the shrews' attacks met air instead of the flesh they were seeking, falling back into the others' hole. From how scared the girl was, she looked ready to break down and cry over her confusion and fright of the UG and its many abnormal features.
"Come here!" called Joshua anxiously, starting to limp over.
But the girl stuck to the spot like glue. So Joshua hastily limped over despite wincing and grimacing at every step he took with his tender foot, a sudden fierce fire of determination sparked inside him to save her.
When he nearly was right beside her, one of the Shrew Noise placed a bomb with a skull by her feet. Instantly Joshua thrust himself forward to pull his Partner to him closely and threw the both of them in a desperate leap away from the bomb. As he felt his body crash into the ground, his body took in all of the pain as the girl landed safely on his chest. The bomb exploded afterwards, harming the Noise's comrade.
Right now, it felt awkward for Joshua to have his Partner lying on top of him, partly because it was a girl. Another reason was that she latched onto him with a tight hug, it was as though she acted like she clinging to a rope while dangling over a cliff that for her to let go she would be dead.
His face heated in a blush. "Um… C-could you g-get o-off o-of m-m-e? P-p-please?"
With a little squeak, she rolled off, got up clumsily, and tentatively picked up the crooked tailpipe.
Joshua tried to get up as well but his ankle burned in pain, he sucked in air sharply before he used his Rosetta Restore Pin. He felt his ankle's pain ease into refreshing warmth that made him let out a sigh, relaxing.
As the red radiance slowly faded away from shining over him, he nodded to the smoky black haired girl who looked stunned by what she had seen. "I just healed myself. I feel none of the pain now. See?" To demonstrate, he twisted his foot with simplicity. "I used Rosetta Restore's-" he tapped his said Pin. "- healing Psych." He smiled warmly at her. "Don't worry about it."
The girl weakly smiled.
When he got up he heard a gasp and a chink ring through the area.
Joshua saw one of the Shrew Noise squirm on the ground in pain, at once he finished it off swiftly with his Star Blight Pin.
The other one shot up out of the ground, hurling in the air at the girl who looked away as she swung the tailpipe at it like a baseball bat. It squealed in agony and Joshua took it down as well.
A brilliant flash of light consumed them before they were back in the Scramble Crossing.
When Joshua glanced at the girl, who no longer had the tailpipe. Right away she quivered as she caught her blue green eyes with his lavender. For a split moment, he felt blood rush to his face and he rubbed the back of his neck.
Oddly for some reason he couldn't get over how pretty those blue green eyes were. They reminded him vividly of the seawater at the beach he visited with his parents last summer; Ayumu and Chise didn't come. Why was he thinking about that? He hated that whole experience since he couldn't spectate the Reaper's Game here; Sanae said the Reaper's Game only happened in Shibuya and no place else in the entire world.
He shook his head, dismissing the thought when he realized how long he stared into her eyes.
The awkwardness returned between the two of them, and Joshua quietly spoke, "S-so… W-we're Partners n-now…"
It felt so hard to talk to this girl, and he thought it was so difficult to talk to someone of the opposite sex as well. He knew talking to Rei, his mother Mitzuki, Auntie Chise, and others he knew was easy. Even Sora Yunito wasn't hard to taunt or snap at, since she practically was a boy from spending so much time with Ryou Takatera when he'd seen her in his classes and her usual bullying of Ayumu. But this girl, a person he never met before, wasn't someone he could speak to exactly. Rei was easy to talk to, since she basically never left him alone. But… he felt this girl was definitely different.
The timid girl cast her gaze down; doing a nod so subtle that to the naked eye it was invisible.
Joshua went ahead to observe her appearance finally, since he didn't really get a chance to do so beforehand and he was going to spend the next week with her here.
First of all, she was shorter than him; her height was up to his eye level. Her head was slightly rounded, and again for a second he was drawn to her pretty turquoise eyes before looking at her attire.
She wore a dark mauve floral vest with a hoodless dark jean jacket worn over it that was not zippered up. Instead of pants, she wore a pure white mini skirt. It had a stripped faded purple and faded blue belt that had a silver grey heart fastener that shined slightly. Also on the skirt for two of the belt loops, one on each hip, were twin polished silver bells that were tied to them by a skinny light pink ribbon in a bow each. Her footwear was flip-flops, the soles were black and the straps were lemon yellow. Now that he glanced at her face again, he saw a few strands of her side bangs on the left side were braided into a skinny braid, tied up by a bright blue ribbon as skinny as the ones attaching the bells to the belt loops in a bow also.
It would seem the girl had in mind also how awkward it was to stand so close to each other because she shifted her feet a little.
Soon Joshua let out a sigh.
They couldn't act like this towards each other forever, and he still had to finish the mission and find his half-brother.
"S-So…" he started and mentally scolded himself for how hesitant he was to talk to his new Partner. "N-Nice s-swinging?"
'Why did I just say that!?'
The glossy haired girl glanced at him, confused a little. But then she did something that surprised him.
She dipped her head low along with her body bending also, almost like she was bowing, with her hands on her knees. Next she stammered in a quiet and jittery voice, "T-Thank y-y-you!"
To be continued…
