TWEWY: A Fall Into Honor:
This story is about how Joshua became the Composer. The story is from Joshua's point of view, and others if the story needs to. This is a prequel of the game The World Ends With You. TWEWY is made by Square Enix. And I own the OCs. This is a FAN FICTION and not the real prequel. Enjoy! =3
Hello everyone, it's been quite a while since the last chapter I posted and I'm sorry about that. It took a while to drive the chapter in the right direction and having writer's block for the story hasn't helped =( But sometimes over the period of time since my last chapter I managed to get some bits and pieces in until I finally got a roll on the chapter. So I hope you enjoy the chapter =3
Week 2, day 2:
Chapter 37: Subject Of Noise:
"Ngh…"
Joshua's head throbbed; his face was pressed against something cold he noticed. A moment later he shot up to his feet when he realized his face was practically kissing the ground.
"Yuck!" he spat as he rushed over immediately to a water fountain to wash off the grime on his face and lips, and rinsed his mouth thoroughly because he knew there must have been some kind of bacteria in there now.
This took a couple minutes until he was certain he was germ free. Yet… he felt as though his memory of this wasn't, which made him feel ready to throw up. Thankfully he held it all in, slightly tasting the despicable taste of stomach acid as he sucked it back down his throat. Overall, he did not like this one bit.
He finally glanced around the area that was the Scramble Crossing once again, which buzzed with life. He let out a sigh, knowing that he could hardly remember now what it was like being in crowds of strangers like this. They of course worried about their normal lives, and he worried about his… not so much normal life. For he was in the UG, out of touch from the RG's reality.
For a second he inhaled deeply and looked up at the sky. He quickly noticed how cloudy it was today, how instead of the normal clear blue sky was now a faint misty pewter one. Wisps of barely formed lighter clouds dotted some parts of the sky, making shadows on the ground like speckles. Clearly it was going to get chillier now than it was ever before.
Joshua could tell that winter was going to come soon. Right after that would be Ayumu's birthday he told himself. He felt a pang of sadness knowing that other than being dead now, they might never be able to truly be able to experience any special events like birthdays again. He was without a doubt that by being dead that meant you can't age, that everyone here would never grow older yet watch all the people in the RG do that in front of them without even realizing it.
Right away he shuddered at that thought, not liking it one bit.
It was until he felt something touch his shoulder when he escaped from his daze and flinched; quickly glancing at whatever it was that disturbed him.
"S-Sorry!" yelped Mayu in surprise as she leapt backwards, then she tripped the moment her feet met the ground while crying out in pain.
Joshua blinked at her, now remembering that she was his new Partner for the week. He was so used to being with Ayumu over the course of last week that he forgot he had Mayu now, a shy girl who seemed very awkward around him but hid a sparkling personality.
He shook his head gently before he awkwardly extended his hand down to her. "Ah, it's fine." he murmured as soon as she caught his hand and allowed Joshua to pull her up to her feet. "I was just so deep in thought that I wasn't ready for that. Heh…"
Mayu looked a bit upset as she lowered her gaze. "I-I- see…"
Joshua smiled warmly at her before he spoke, "Please don't worry about it Mayu, really."
The shorthaired girl gave a small nod, but Joshua could tell she was neither confident nor happy about it.
They suddenly took on an awkward silence again, one that Joshua felt irritated about. He knew that it would be hard for the both of them to work together if they kept acting this way to each other. He somewhat decided that the person who had to initiate conversations would have to be him, seeing how she could hardly stop stuttering in her speech. But he didn't mind doing it after all.
Luckily he spotted his half-brother and Izo slowly moving towards them which made him exclaim happily, "Hey, it's Ayumu and Izo!"
Almost at once Mayu hid behind him.
Joshua sighed before he twisted his head to look at his Partner. "Uh… they won't hurt you…"
"B-But…" squeaked Mayu as she blushed when he caught her pretty turquoise eyes. "He-He hurt you… J-Joshua…"
"Oh? You mean Izo?" said Joshua mildly as he slowly grabbed his chin gingerly by his fingers, he let out a small snort of amusement before he continued, "Don't worry about him. He was just trying to get my head straight, Mayu. That's all."
Mayu closed her eyes for a brief second before she gave a meek nod. "O-O-Okay…"
Joshua smiled to himself as he felt warmth swell within his heart. 'I'm glad to hear that. Mayu still doesn't have as much confidence but I'm sure she'll gain it soon!' He questioned himself momentarily why he felt so exultant from her response, it really confounded him yet he still felt his happiness brewing as strong as ever. 'Why are my emotions gushing like this? This is a bit inconvenient…'
By the time Joshua chose to face forward again Izo had halted and released his grip on Ayumu's shirt collar. As Joshua sent Izo a glare of aversion, Izo's maroon eyes only hardened and met Joshua's lavender.
"You know…" started Joshua in a jeering tone. "You could at least try to not choke my brother this week, Izo."
The air grew cold as Izo's glasses glinted eerily.
"Feh, like I want to," snorted Izo as he curled his fingers into his hand, the blue haired teen's expression was ugly as he spat harshly, "I don't crave to propitiously hold the Blind Brat's hand like he's a dumb 2 year old! So don't posit him to get the puerile conduct you bathe him with!"
Joshua was stunned for a moment, but a little fire of ire arose inside himself almost immediately after. He scrunched his eyebrows at Izo before he gave an angry huff, "I-I don't." he met Izo's visible maroon eye slightly. "I just want you to not be so hard on him, it's his first time not using his psychic powers to help himself. Yet-" the ashen blond noticed Izo shake his head sullenly, "- you don't act like you care…"
"Do I authenticate magnanimity?"
"Never have I seen…" sighed Joshua bitterly.
'Augh! Why do I even put up with Izo!?' thought Joshua furiously as he gritted his teeth secretly. 'He acts too much of a jerk!'
Izo pushed his small oval glasses up before he closed his eyes. "Bonne réponse."
At once Joshua was surprised when Izo's voice altered a bit. Clearly the eloquent French was evident in his choice of words, but his Japanese accent made his speech less elegant in the language. Of course, Joshua knew that Izo used a few French words once and a while but this time he could actually hear Izo's voice change to accommodate his words. He noted that his voice sounded odd whenever he spoke French.
When Izo sent him a glare the moment he saw Joshua's face convey his confusion, he snorted, "What?"
"Never mind." quickly said Joshua, remembering now that he had to ask Izo about yesterday's discussion of days in the RG and UG altogether. "I think we have more things to worry about."
Izo gave a curt nod.
"L-Like what, J-Joshua?" asked Mayu timidly as she fidgeted with her dainty hands.
Right away Joshua snapped his attention to her from shock. He couldn't believe he forgot that Mayu was with him again; he gave a mental facepalm as he avoided everyone's gazes in shame. 'I need to remind myself Mayu is my Partner! Augh! I must be the worst Partner in existence for that!'
"Are you sick!?" Mayu asked in alarm. "You're flushed!"
Her concern was clear and loud in her voice. Joshua was sure that she hadn't noticed that her cry was noticed by Izo, but wasn't so sure about Ayumu who had been quiet up to this point looking unfocused at nothing.
Joshua shook his head. "Not really, Mayu. I just can't believe I keep ignoring you."
Mayu gave a small nod before she edged back in a flinch the moment she noticed Izo scowling at her with disdain. Joshua could only let out a sigh; he wished Izo would get along with Mayu instead of being so aloof towards her. They just met yesterday and already they were setting their group boundaries without any flexibility or acceptance. It really worried Joshua if Izo would freeze her entirely by how much cold air he mysteriously produced now.
"Josh," Ayumu's voice surprised Joshua out of his imagining, causing him to set his gaze on his half brother who wasn't looking in Joshua's direction.
It took a moment for Joshua to respond, "Oh… hello, Ayumu." He bit his lip nervously, he felt awkward talking to Ayumu now that the younger blond could actually speak normally now. He was so used to Ayumu's broken speech that he forgotten what it was like to have a regular conservation with Ayumu.
No… he reminded himself that Ayumu needed to get his emotions back, from the Composer who kept them still with her as Joshua's Entry Fee. Joshua made sure that his Entry Fee for this game would be the same thing, even the Composer told him shortly after Rei left with Kazumasa that at the moment he only cared about getting Ayumu's Entry Fee back at that time.
Joshua trembled a bit in anger. 'I'll get them back… I swear I will, Ayumu…'
Before no one could notice his display of anger he forced himself to smile and chirped to Ayumu, "How are you doing so far, Ayumu?"
His half-brother blinked slowly as a breeze ruffled his blond hair. "I don't know, Josh." he inhaled deeply before he added, "I hardly can tell where I am and I can't feel anything. I have no clue if I'm okay or not, since, you know…"
The older half brother felt needles strike at his heart; the thought that Ayumu was suffering yet he was ignorant of it saddened Joshua. Guilt seeped into the impales as he knew he was to blame for all of this happening to Ayumu. If only he went with Ayumu to Tin Pin Slammers this would have never happened, they might have been happier and Ayumu wouldn't be missing his emotions and his psychic powers. Yet, Joshua chose the wrong choice! It was his entire fault!
"I k-know," he choked out trying to keep smiling, even if Ayumu couldn't see it Joshua wanted to make sure he wouldn't let loose his stress and anger. As much as he wanted to take down the Composer this moment, he had to control himself and focus on the person who needed him most now. If Joshua got himself erased by recklessly charging into the Composer's domain, wherever it was, then Ayumu would be alone and he would never get his emotions back.
Ayumu gave a nod before lowering his gaze. "Ta, Josh, ta."
Joshua let out a sigh. "You're welcome, Ayumu."
"As much as I like seeing you two tête-à-tête," growled Izo rudly as he adjusted his oval glasses. "I think we have a problematic right now."
"Huh?" Joshua screwed his face up in confusion. "What?"
Izo let out a huff as his maroon eyes traveled to Ayumu and narrowed them. "Permit me to enquire this: how will the Blind Brat battle?"
Joshua widened his lavender eyes. 'Oh no… I forgot about that! Ayumu can only fight using his psychic powers! But now…'
Ayumu didn't look up as he replied, "I can't tell where I am going without my psychic powers, it's almost out of the question."
The dark blue haired boy nodded but frowned. "Precisely."
"I don't think there's a way for me to fight anyways," said Ayumu hollowly as he held his hands together. "So I guess I could sit out." he blinked his pale pewter eyes before he put in, "I hope you don't mind this, Izo."
Izo sighed rubbing his temples gently before he coldly retorted, "It's not like we have any healthier ideas."
The petite blond nodded a little before he almost managed looked at Joshua. "I might be a burden for everyone though..."
"Of course not, Ayumu!" protested Joshua as he darted to Ayumu and shook him by his shoulders, he couldn't bare hearing Ayumu belittle himself just because he didn't have a way to fight. "You might not have your psychic powers but I'm sure you can greatly help us with the missions. Right guys?"
Just as he stopped shaking his half-brother, Izo merely snorted and turned away, "Feh, sure…"
"Mayu?" asked Joshua hopefully as his eyes gleamed.
For a second the short black haired girl cringed and edged back a bit before she blushed and looked at her feet. Joshua couldn't see her face but he did feel a bit bad because he knew he had trapped her in a corner just now. He was about to apologize when she looked up and shyly smiled at him. "E-Everyone can help, e-even if they are limited w-with what they are able to do," she said softly still blushing.
Joshua let go of Ayumu's shoulders and stared at her in surprise. She didn't really sound as nervous or shy in front of Ayumu and Izo, she sounded a bit more genuine and kind… he felt his face dust with pink.
"Okay." Ayumu nodded. "Ta, Mayu."
Joshua drew himself out of his daze before he noticed Izo was watching him with a scowl, yet Joshua saw that he had a mindful emotion burning in his maroon eyes as well. That made him feel a bit nervous, he wondered what Izo was thinking about.
It was until Izo finally brushed his longer fringe aside only for it to return back to its original place. "Hmph, so I really am babysitting the Blind Brat."
"I think 'looking after him' is a better way to phrase it, Izo." growled Joshua narrowing his eyes at Izo.
"Doesn't matter," growled Izo aloofly before he added, "The Noise will abolish him readily."
Joshua was about to protest when Mayu made a small sound, "I…"
Quickly Joshua cast off his words and focused on Mayu, noticing how she looked a bit troubled. He let his face soften before he went over to his Partner and placed a hand on her narrow shoulder. "Are you alright, Mayu?"
Mayu seemed a bit reluctant before she quietly answered, "Um… I-I was just wondering…" she figeted with her hands as her pretty blue green eyes flashed with worry.
"Yes?" said Joshua gently as he tried to figure out what troubled his Partner. "What is it, Mayu?"
She hesitated before she finally asked in a little voice, "I-Is there m-more of them? Th-The N-Noise?"
Joshua didn't blame her, Mayu was new to the Reaper's Game and had no clue about the rights or the wrongs that has always occurred here. He reminded himself he needed to help her with learning about the game and fighting against the Noise. 'She needs me right now as well as Ayumu…' he told himself privately as he smiled sadly. 'I can't ignore that right now, especially when she is so timid and scared of everything here in the UG… including the Noise…'
"I wish I could tell you there isn't," said Joshua with a sad sigh, furrowing his eyebrows as he gave her a sad look. "But there are."
"I-I see…" she squeaked, looking fearfully at him but trying to muster up a smile as well. He felt her grasp his hand from her shoulder gently as she blinked her now teary blue green eyes. "S-So they live h-here?"
Joshua bit his lip and nodded feeling bitter, he wished that the Noise never existed so that Mayu wouldn't be so scared at the moment. He also wondered why he felt a strong burst of protectiveness swell up in his heart right now, it felt like he wanted to protect her from everything that threatened them in existence.
He felt her squeeze his hand when she asked timidly, "How many are there? What kinds are there?"
Joshua felt his face burn up immediately before he stuttered a bit, "A-A lot, I think s-so…" he felt a little bit embarrassed as he tried to answer her next question, "And o-other kinds? Uh… many?"
She gave him a confused look as she echoed, "Many…? How do you know the difference?"
That confused him for a second. He widened his eyes a bit as he spoke, "The difference? What do you mean?"
"I..." Joshua saw that Izo now looked interested as the walking freezer observed her as she replied quietly, "Y-Yesterday… I saw other animals- Noise… chasing after people… b-but I saw some that l-looked similar to each other but were… different."
When Joshua thought about what she had said, he sort of recalled times when he fought Noise that looked similar to each other. Like the Wolf Noise, he had fought a grey one once but a vivid speedy yellow one another time. They both seemed to be the same kind but they both had different abilities, such as the vivid yellow one could charge across rapidly while flames spewed behind it while the grey one would simply pounce and chomp at him. Joshua rubbed the shoulder a vivid yellow wolf Noise bit one time last week.
"I know what you mean." Joshua nodded to her. "You mean for example seeing a grey Wolf Noise and a vivid yellow Wolf Noise with different abilities?"
Mayu gave a small nod to confirm.
"She nurtures a point," growled Izo as he began to walk to Joshua. Joshua sadly pried his hand out of Mayu's knowing he was just beginning to enjoy holding her hand before he faced Izo. "I've seen ample of analogous Noise but their types are idiosyncratic." he blinked before he asked, "Do you know why?"
Joshua frowned to himself as he mused, "I have no idea…" he gazed at Izo as he added, "But you can tell that there is obviously evolution for each of them."
"I can tell," growled Izo in irritation.
Suddenly Ayumu spoke up, "But do we have to call them 'grey Wolf' or 'vivid yellow Wolf' Noise?"
"What do you mean by that, Ayumu?" asked Joshua puzzled by Ayumu's question.
The slightly messy haired boy did not look up as he replied without emotion, "Is there a better way to name them? I mean, I'm sure all of you are thinking what a stupid name it is to call Noise by what animal they are and what colour they are together. It just gets… complicated if you refer to them like that, Josh."
The ashen blond held onto his chin as he mindfully pondered about it. 'Hmm… now that Ayumu has mentioned it, it does sound dumb and confusing.' he let out a chuckle at the thought before continuing to ponder, 'I'm guessing Ayumu is trying to tell me that we need a better way to classify them, which makes sense since he must not be able to tell since he is blind… and calling them by their colours isn't all too appealing…'
Izo gave a curt nod as he closed his eyes. "I rather not call Noise by their form in colour, feh."
Mayu tilted her head slightly as she asked quietly, "C-Could we come up with o-our own way to n-name them, Josh?"
"Sure!" Joshua smiled happily when she said that. "That sounds like a fun idea. It might be better to figure this out so we can all refer to and know what Noise we are talking about." he looked in Ayumu's direction as he remarked, "Great idea, Ayumu!"
Ayumu merely nodded. "Ta, Josh."
Joshua felt proud of Ayumu's involvement in this group, now that he could accurately explain his thoughts he would be able to help them. Even though Ayumu was arrogant and reckless when he was still alive, Joshua knew that Ayumu was a smart kid. Despite being a grade lower than he should have been and being blind, Ayumu was able to excel in his work that his teachers always gave him and what Joshua tested him on when he tutored Ayumu. Ayumu could tell the difference between things around him and knew more than kids his own age, almost like Joshua but his arrogance shrouded it and his denial of the Reaper's Game didn't help either.
Finally Izo gave a nod to Joshua before he asked, "How should we do this? We will need to find something to put the names down and ideas first."
Joshua immediately furrowed his eyebrows, he didn't really carry around anything to jot down any reminders regularly. He doubted that Izo had anything either, but if he did he would probably never give it to Joshua if he used it to write poetry. For sure Ayumu carried nothing, he could only write down words in braille but he had no good excuse to carry around a notebook. Joshua knew that Ayumu would refer to his memory, not anything written down on paper unless required to. Lastly, he wasn't so sure about Mayu, and he didn't want to pry about what she carried to be respectful of her privacy and reserved nature. The best thing they could do was to buy something from a store.
Before he could sugest his idea he felt something be nudged into his hands. He was surprised when he saw a peach pink notebook that had darker delicate swirls and lighter imprints of leaves across the cover, with on the side was a dark red ribbon that was tied up to ensure the notebook stayed closed.
Instantly Joshua glanced around to find that Mayu was gazing at him nervously while her hands slipped behind her back. She blushed slightly before she squeaked, "Y-You can have it. I bought it be-beforehand when I was st-still… a-alive."
Joshua could only gape at her in awe before he recovered himself and smiled. "It's just what we need! Thanks, Mayu."
He saw her blush harder as she covered her face with one of her hands in embarrassment.
"But are you sure…?" The ashen blond didn't want to take Mayu's notebook like this and be downright rude about it, he felt like it was unfair for her to do this. "It is your notebook…?"
Mayu quivered a bit before she nodded, giving him a small smile. "Y-Yes, Joshua."
He let out a sigh before he examined at the notebook; even though he wasn't a fan of pink he thought this notebook Mayu bought was perfect. He smiled to himself and closed his eyes. 'Mayu was kind to do this… but a feel a little bad taking it from her though…' he took in a gulp of air before he reopened his eyes.
Slowly he gingerly pulled the intertwined ribbons loose and opened up Mayu's notebook to blank pale red pages. Suddenly he was aware he had nothing to write with, he scolded himself for not taking any pens with him the day Ayumu and him died.
"Uh…" Joshua let out a sigh. "Does anyone have-"
Mayu in a jittery way took out a purple fountain pen and pressed it into his free hand. "H-Here!"
Joshua stared at it for a second before he breathed awkwardly, "Thanks again… Mayu." he slowly gave a smile to her and giggled.
She gave a small nod before she set her pretty blue green eyes away from his lavender.
"Anything else?" growled Izo as he crossed his arms.
"Yep, that's it," replied Joshua with a nervous giggle.
On the first page he wrote down Noise before making a circle around it. He tapped the other end of the fountain pen on the page in thought before he drew a line from the circle. "Okay, for one thing we know is that Noise come from different kinds that share similarities, so let's call them Noise Families." he wrote Noise Families down and drew a circle around it like the first.
"A-Are you trying to say Noise b-belong in e-each of them?" asked Mayu quietly, but Joshua heard curiosity within her voice as well.
"Yes I am, Mayu," said Joshua as he finished the circle before tapping the fountain pen on the page again.
Izo was examining the page skeptically before he growled, "Okay, so that means we should assemblage each Noise into families of what animals they are. Such as the wolf Noise you cited."
The ashen blond nodded and drew a line from Noise Families and wrote Wolf Noise as well as Frog Noise beside another line he made that connected to Noise Families. He did the same for Popguin Noise (he thought popguin sounded more fun than penguin), Mink Noise (he wasn't sure if they really were minks), Carcin Noise (because it linked to crab in the end), Boomer Noise (because he knew boomer was another name for kangaroo), Pig Noise, Bat Noise, Shrew Noise, Fox Noise, Jelly Noise (he didn't want to say jellyfish because one stung him when he went to the beach with his parents), and he left some more space for other ones they might find while explaining to the group his reasons for the Noise Families' names and getting input from them.
When he was done he assessed his work before he asked curiously, "Well, what do you think?"
Ayumu blinked before he spoke, "I think I could memorize that. It's easier to know what Noise Families we're dealing with if we know what animals they are."
The walking freezer snorted before he replied, "I acquiesce with the Blind Brat," he added bitterly with a sigh, "Sadly."
Joshua sent a glare to him before he gazed at his Partner. "Mayu?"
"Mmhmm." she nodded with a smile. "You made it very clear, Joshua." after a brief pause she added nervously, "Y-You could be a teacher one day."
Right away Joshua widened his eyes before he protested awkwardly, "I-I don't think I could, actually, Mayu."
"Oh…" She sounded disappointed, making Joshua regret what he said. This created an awkward silence between them and Joshua reprimanded himself for making it when he wanted to avoid making them.
When Izo looked up from looking at the diagram he growled ignoring the tension Joshua and Mayu had, "Okay, so what about the separable Noise? We need a appellation for them also, so we should evaluate their behaviors and attacks to resolve on them."
"R-Right!" Joshua rubbed the back of his neck before he turned to look at Izo in the huddle they made when Joshua explained the Noise Families. "We need to try to choose names that links to the Noise Families' name so we can remember them better and choose another part-"
"Not colours." said Ayumu blankly.
The older half-brother nodded before he continued to explain, "Correct, no colours. So we should identify something that defines every one of them in a unique way."
Izo snorted and gained Joshua's attention as he glared at Joshua. "I believe we should settle upon something that isn't arbitrary for each of them. Perchance we could choose a base category for this taxonomy for the prefix to combine it with the suffix."
It made sense to Joshua; they couldn't just have random words thrown in. Even though Izo was a jerk most of the time he had valuable intelligence that helped them, however the fact that he tried to be poetic and too complex in his sentences made Joshua muddled sometimes.
'Hmm… what type of category could we use to help us choose names for the Noise?' Joshua closed his eyes and held his chin. 'It has to make sense… not that it makes sense to call the Noise, Noise… I do wonder who made that one up… They make plenty of horrible noise by killing our eardrums when they let out noise, it's not as lovely as music that's for sure.'
A frown formed on his face. 'Music…'
He snapped his eyes open and blurted out, "Music!"
Izo glared at him looking not pleased by what he had just said, Mayu flinched and jumped back yelping from shock from his abrupt announcement, and Ayumu did nothing because he was still where he originally was and stared unfocused into the distance.
Joshua composed himself before he explained eagerly, "I think we should have music for that category."
The cobalt haired teen adjusted his glasses again before he growled, "Why?"
"Well, I think it should be music because… how is music made?" said Joshua confidently as he drew a line from Noise Families to write down Names For Each Noise – Prefix corresponds to music type and Suffix corresponds to the Noise Families then drew a bubble around it.
Mayu suddenly piped with fervor as she bounced a bit, "By making different noises and sounds!"
Joshua pointed the purple fountain pen at her and grinned. "Exactly!"
This time Mayu didn't go back to her shy self, she looked like she was going to explode from excitement. "There are so many kinds of music to choose and play! I love listening to all of them! I don't even have a favorite- because they are all my favorite!" Joshua saw her soul was on fire and shining brightly from the passion she displayed. "Ooh! I could list down some right now!"
"So music's your passion, Mayu?" asked Joshua in amazement as he watched her bounce on the spot in a little dance.
She turned to him and shouted, "Yes! I love, love, love music! Ever since I was a little girl when my parents took me to my first recital!"
"Do you think you could help with choosing the names, Mayu?" asked Joshua feeling excited himself at the prospect of seeing Mayu so happy and her musical knowledge.
"I'll try my best," she said blushing and smiling. "Just give me some points and details about the Noise and I'll link them to some songs."
Joshua laughed from how she was acting. "Great!" he couldn't help but notice she was cute this way. But he felt puzzled immediately by what he had just thought. 'Cute… Why did I think she was cute? Err…'
Joshua readied himself before he stated the first Noise that popped into his head. "There's this frog Noise that leaps at Players."
"Dixieland music." Mayu responded in a flash. "How about using 'Dixie'."
Joshua drew a line from the Frog Noise category then mused, "How about… we use 'frog' for the suffix for the Frog Noise family's Noise. Then that Noise would be Dixiefrog." he glanced at the group before he raised his hand with the fountain pen in the air. "All in favor?"
"Aye." growled Izo bitterly.
"Aye!" chirped Mayu happily.
"Aye." said Ayumu.
Joshua wrote down Dixiefrog then wrote under Frog Noise: Suffix is –frog.
For the next few minutes they discussed and decided on the names of Noise they had encountered so far, for Joshua it was fun and he found he was enjoying himself. He noticed Mayu was enjoying this as well, effortlessly suggesting types of music as easy as seeing with her own pretty eyes. Izo helped them with the suffixes and explained why for each of them while choosing if it came first or last in the name. Ayumu didn't really say much but clearly Joshua knew if they mentioned one colour in the name that wasn't the name of a type of music then Ayumu would probably speak up against it. On the other pages they put the Noise Families down and the names of Noise that fell under them, and for Joshua it felt like they were making a Noise Wikipedia or a Noise Report.
Once they were done, Joshua made sure the purple ink had dried before he closed the notebook and tied the dark red ribbons together in a bow.
"Done." said Joshua happily; he remarked shortly after, "This was a refreshing activity, I'd say it was better than exercising."
"It sure was." Mayu beamed as she clasped her hands together and swayed on the spot. "It was fun making up names and understanding the different kinds of Noise."
"I'm glad you enjoyed it." Joshua felt his eyes gleam from joy. "And you understand Noise better now?"
Mayu nodded, her blue green eyes shining brightly.
Izo's maroon eye darkened and he looked away when Joshua noticed him watching. "At least we have appellations to call them, feh."
Ayumu nodded.
Joshua was about to hand Mayu her notebook back when she pushed it back gently to him. "Y-You keep it, y-you might think of more."
He blinked at her feeling sad and disappointed she went back to being shy and timid again. "If you say so…" he liked her cheerful and passionate personality better. For a second he blushed at the thought.
Carefully he managed to put Mayu's notebook into one of his pockets before he looked at the group again. "Okay, so if any of us encounter another new Noise we will discuss and choose a name for it, especially if the Noise is found in a new Noise Family."
When everyone agreed, Joshua thought to himself, 'Wow, I can't believe we actually gave Noise names. It's a bit weird to think we are naming the things that try to erase us each day, heh.' he let out a chuckle. 'It took a while but we named each one we've battled.'
Something suddenly occurred to Joshua. 'Wait… shouldn't have the mission come a while ago!?'
Taps echoing on the ground and chains swinging, rattling, and clanging broke Joshua out of his thoughts; he immediately looked around confused about where the sounds were coming from before he heard a voice.
"Hmph, I hate to break the news and shatter your… little… Noise naming party."
To be continued…
Hope you enjoyed the chapter =3
