TWEWY: A Fall Into Honor:
This story is about how Joshua became the Composer. The story is from Joshua's point of view, and others if the story needs to. This is a prequel of the game The World Ends With You. TWEWY is made by Square Enix. And I own the OCs. This is a FAN FICTION and not the real prequel. Enjoy! =3
Okay, okay... I know day 2 for week 2 has had so many chapters so far (3 + the chapter you are reading now) but let's just say that if this was an actual official video game prequel to TWEWY then you can imagine that you're being bombarded with so many video game cutscenes. Lol, it would be hard to save your game then because of that.
Week 2, day 2:
Chapter 40: Nemeses For Existence:
"Objective complete."
Sounds of clicks and unlocking filled the air.
Joshua could only pant and nod to the Reaper before he finally hung his head from exhaustion. Beside him Mayu was nervously clutching his shoulders for protection from the Reaper, yet Joshua could barely reassure her that the Reaper meant no harm to them.
They had just been sent into a chain of 4 battles; most of the time Joshua was the one fighting since Mayu had a hard time hitting each Noise who focused in on him. He didn't mind fighting that much for them, but he felt that Mayu just needed some easier enemies to help her grow stronger and confident. She needed more practice fighting than he needed.
The Reaper merely nodded back before he stepped aside.
Joshua touched one of Mayu's hands before he started towards the next district, and Mayu darted and kept nearby him as they left the loud, cluttered Scramble Crossing.
He noticed how Mayu seemed quite insecure whenever they met someone new; frankly she was quick to almost cling to him. So he wondered, did Mayu trust him the most? Enough to protect her?
At that idea he felt honoured, a burst of pride swelled inside him and he let a smile pass onto his lips.
They both kept their stride strong as the sunlight was weakened by the clustered creamy skyscrapers that soon walled Joshua's left and right. He noticed there were few shops, including the one the twins from earlier were planning on visiting. For a second he could actually feel himself relax in the small, deafened area, and Mayu possibly felt the same way because she wasn't trembling from the amount of RG people located in the area anymore.
So he turned around as his Partner tapped his shoulders gently. "Um…" she withdrew her hand slowly as she avoided his gaze. "N-Nice area?"
This confused Joshua as to why she asked that, but he sort of did agree with her. This place held a tranquil aura and was shielded from most people due to the fact it was a Monday. Considering the fact he always has been in school during this time, he never really got a chance to see what this place was like on a day like this. In fact, Joshua saw no reason that he shouldn't be in school when it was a day for classes. Also, skipping class wasn't the most agreeable topic to Joshua's and Ayumu's father.
He slowly glanced around and looked upward towards the wide-open space Shibu Department Store had available. "Y-Yeah… pretty quiet actually."
Mayu gave a weak smile before she opened her mouth to speak again, yet before she could breathe a word Joshua found himself crashing to the ground while dragging his Partner down with him in an attempt to stay standing.
He let out a yelp of pain as he met the pavement partially and lay there dazed a bit, reflecting vaguely who had just pushed him now. He felt Mayu moving from beneath him, hyperventilating as she quivered. When he caught her startled eyes with his own, he felt his heart plummet. 'Crap!' He released Mayu and rolled onto his side slightly, away from looking at her and he scolded himself passionately, 'Why did I have to grab Mayu!? Who pushed me!?'
Contemptuous laughter was the only thing his ringing ears caught, horrible echoes from when he lived. A rush of anger erupted from his surprise and he pulled himself up to glare at the two owners to yell his head off at them, but he felt himself grow angrier and set his frown into gritted teeth when he recognized them.
It was Ryou Takakera.
The blond boy was definitely looking as venomous as always, Joshua noted bitterly. His eyes green as an emerald snake's scales, calculating and cold as Joshua committed himself to remembering. His stance was laidback as he cackled from watching Joshua.
He wore his usual black jacket that went over his dark brown shirt and his dark jeans. Ryou still had on around his neck a tooth pendant necklace that had a shark tooth attached to it by the small hole drilled into it. That shark tooth, Joshua guessed, was from Ryou's father who probably ripped it off of a real shark that now dangerously dangled next to Ryou's chest. Joshua was hoping, hoping that the tooth would pierce into Ryou's chest anytime soon.
Sadly, Joshua couldn't even forget Ryou's partner in crime who cackled alongside him at that moment: Sora Yunito.
Her blonde hair was slightly glowing in the pale sunlight, going as far down as barely resting on her shoulders. Her celeste eyes were pale as ice, sharp enough even to slice through it. She was looking towards him with the typical malice she enjoyed introducing to Ayumu every time Joshua found his half brother being bullied by her. She was a definition of what girls shouldn't become when they got no other hobbies to do.
Her harsh orange shirt had its sleeves frayed from being ripped off, along with her pants that had thick threads wildly stretching out from where she probably cut her pants' legs off halfway up her shins. She settled for a choker that had a fake gaudy green crystal resting on her chest.
Just looking at them made Joshua sick to his stomach that boiled everything inside him, he only knew one reason for them to actually stand here and annoy him. He couldn't even believe that they were here in the UG; it gave him a stirring that this week was deteriorating into greater adversity for him.
Stiffly he sat there shaking in anger as he snarled out, "You two!? To think I'd seen the last of your faces!?"
Ryou curled his lips as he sneered, "What? Miss us already, Yoshiya?" he let out a cackle of contempt. "Has the week been too long for you?" he flashed a snide look to the blonde beside him who snickered obnoxiously.
"Like, we, want to be here in your filthy, presence, freak!" crowed Sora as she flipped her nose up in the air, wrinkling it as though she had a skunk in her arms.
The ashen blond haired teen tensed from the nickname, he hated it ever since they started to bully Ayumu and make Joshua's life miserable. He wanted to scream at them, he wanted them to leave him alone! Why couldn't they just stop being horrible to him?
He tensed for a moment. 'Wait… Ryou… Sora… they're here… in the UG? Taunting me with no end to their cruel spite!? Does that mean!?' he narrowed his lavender eyes as he pondered angrily, 'No! They must be dead! This can't be happening!? For once I thought I'd never have to endure another of their sneers for a long time! But now!?' He groaned inwardly, 'But now…'
Beside him he saw from the corner of his eyes the movement of when Mayu crawled behind him and he felt her hug him tightly as she shook. He could feel her shaky breath on the left side of his neck as she peeked out at Joshua's nemeses for life... or existence now.
"Who's this?" jeered Sora as she took a step forward and narrowed her eyes towards them; Joshua's intake of breath was sharp as Mayu tightened her frightened hug. "A girl?" she let out a laugh, "A sad excuse for one, at that! No wonder she's being tainted by your freakiness!"
"Leave Mayu out of this!" roared Joshua as he pushed himself up to his feet abruptly, carrying Mayu to hers as well. "Don't insult my friend!" He shook as he glared at them, feeling fire shoot through every inch of his body from hearing Mayu being insulted by the people he hated. Mayu deserved nothing of insults or treatment as this! Even Izo's earlier argument with him about her dissolved and he replaced it with Sora and Ryou.
Ryou gave a crooked, mocking smile as he narrowed his eyes at him. "Friend? A friend? Hah!" he lashed his arm through the empty air in front of him as he threw up his head. "You're protecting a feeble twig! A twig that is nothing without its tree! A twig, that dogs chew up, then spit out, then does the exact, same, THING!"
Joshua could tell that Mayu was hurt badly by this, he could hear her let out a watery whimper that could easily evolve into loud sobs. That made him furious, so furious he wanted to beat up Ryou and Sora until they were nearly erased then drag them into a horde of Noise who would end their existence for him.
He was about to move Mayu's hands to initiate his plan when he heard Ryou jeer with malice, "Look at that, Sora! It's the younger freak!"
'Ayumu's here!?' Right away Joshua snapped his head around to see Izo stalking into the district while grasping his half-brother's arm strongly. The moment Joshua saw Izo stop and stare in their direction for a few seconds was when the frozen boy began to pull Ayumu to him and Mayu. 'No!'
Joshua panicked for a moment, even having the idea to yell at Izo like he was completely nuts to not go near them and Ayumu's bullies. Right now Ryou and Sora had to not know of what happened to Ayumu, nor did they need to drag Izo over and harass and heckle him as well. 'This is bad… Why is my week becoming more worse each minute of it!? Why can't Izo be his grumpy old anti-social self and ignore us right now like the jerk he has always been!? Argh!'
Mayu still clung to Joshua whimpering by the time Izo joined him but the poet stood a few steps away looking wary of Ryou and Sora, Joshua felt that he should be anyways considering what they have done when Joshua and Ayumu were still alive.
The frozen boy scowled as he growled slowly in a frigid tone, "Mates… from when you still were alive I presume?"
"No! They're not!" spat Joshua harshly as he glared hard at Izo, who merely scowled back. "They're anything but that!"
Izo immediately adjusted his small oval glasses before he snorted, "Feh. I can tell, mate."
Ryou's eyes were already watching Izo when Joshua went back to glaring at the blond. Clearly by how the emerald orbs glittered told Joshua that Ryou saw that him and Izo had familiarity with each other of some sorts. Joshua wanted to gnaw his inside lip until it was completely faded; he felt that there was no way to stop what Ryou was planning now.
True to his fears he saw Ryou give his crooked smirk as he sneered, "What? Are you seriously gathering an army of freaks, Freak?"
"Excuse me?" growled the frozen boy icily as he slowly turned his head to Joshua's nemesis.
Joshua slapped his hand to his head. 'Oh no…'
Ryou seemed pleased by Izo's fall for his bait as he snickered, "Yeah you Blue-Head! What? Did you dunk your head in a can of paint?"
Sora let out a spiteful cry as she tilted her head to the side sharply, "Yeah! How long did it take to dry?"
Joshua opened his mouth to retort but he never got out a single word when he saw Izo's eyes narrow into thin maroon slits.
"So, you relish perpetrating invectives and fraudulent spectacles of poise?" growled Izo as he shoved Ayumu away from him and took a step forward, flicking his bangs out of his face. "It purely takes one to bite their tongue off in order to break their grandeur."
At this Ryou narrowed his eyes at Izo, his smirk slightly twitched into a flat line. "What? You want to defend yourself this poorly? I've seen better than a Blue-Head like you…" he smirked slightly as he crossed his arms when he sneered snappishly, "Oh? Nice outfit by the way…" he let out a bout of laughter as he continued, "Did your mommy pick it out for her little baby Blue-Head?"
At this Izo stiffened.
Joshua gasped and felt his heart drop. 'No… They wouldn't…' He knew he had to stop this now, but he couldn't find a way to intervene at that very moment.
"Thought so!" exclaimed Sora as she trotted over to Izo and fished his glasses off before Izo had a chance to respond. "Ha! He even has stupid glasses to complement it, Ryou! Look!" she whipped around and threw the glasses to Ryou who caught them effortlessly. "His is so 'ittle that they must have been picked out by his parents when he was a 'ittle child!"
"Shut… up…"
Ryou held Izo's glasses up high as the sun's rays dimly reflected off them. "You're right, Sora! He has stupid glasses, stupid clothes, and a stupid HAIRCUT!" Joshua saw Ryou gaze at Izo who said nothing but fume. "Who cut your hair? Your daddy? You must look just as horrible and identical as him, Blue-Head! With your fake hair and freakiness!"
Joshua was speechless; he wanted to just scream at the two of them to knock it off yet couldn't form any words. They had no right to bully Izo like this, nor did they have the right to speak poorly of Izo's parents when they had no clue to what Izo's parents were like, including Joshua himself and the others of their group. It made him furious to see that they were insulting Izo right off the bat without any hesitation or care in the world about who he was or what they were inflicting to him.
But before any more insults were thrown, Joshua shivered as a wave of cold air struck his figure. He could actually see his pale breath puffing out and dispersing in front of him as his bones suddenly ached in pain, his fingers were slowly paling and a tinge of blue was settling in. The air around them seemed to be condensing and generating a vague fog and churned with chilly blasts that made Joshua's ashen blond locks sway.
He could see that this sudden temperature drop baffled Ryou and Sora, halting their mocking as they shivered fiercely.
"What the!?" Ryou instantly hugged himself as he continued to shiver madly like he just came out of a pool. "Why is it so fricking cold!?"
"My hands!" Sora screamed as she shook; widening her eyes as she started to shake her pale, blue turning hands. "I can't feel them!" she looked at her partner in crime as she cried out, "Ryou! Do something!"
"Wh-What I am supposed to do!?" snapped Ryou as his teeth clattered and he hugged himself harder. "It's-It's-It's so cold!?"
Joshua watched them feeling completely baffled by this as well, yet after a minute or two he gained a vague idea. He slowly looked towards Izo whose hand was clenched tightly as it was turning deathly pale. He didn't see the dark blue haired teen's face, yet he imagined it twisted in fierce rage.
Suddenly Joshua yelled out in shock as his feet felt insanely cold, he instantly stared down as he saw a patch of frost materializing below his feet.
'Ice…?'
Why was there ice?
"Ryou!"
Joshua whipped up his head as he almost stepped back in horror. Sora's feet had ice encrusting over it in an alarming rate as she shrieked in fear. "ICE!? Where is it coming from!? HELP RYOU!?"
"I can't, Sora!" snapped Ryou as he began to try and tug his own feet free, he cursed before he let out a roar of anger, "I can't! Can't you see that I need help as WELL!?"
"WHAT ABOUT ME!?"
They yelled and argued as ice met their shins, just as the ice came in contact with their skin it started to turn white. That was when they started to try to break the ice franticly in shrill screeches until Ryou finally managed to free one of his feet and used it to start smashing the ice holding his other. Before long he freed Sora before they attempted to run away only to slip on the rime that continued to spread out at a rapid speed.
As they met the ground to what Joshua imagined was incredibly painful, Izo's glasses fell out of Ryou's grip and slid across the glacial ground.
It didn't take long until Joshua's nemeses ran like they were burning alive of sight when ice started to encrust over their feet again. He heard their screams until they became distant and far away…
The air remained freezing surprisingly after Sora's and Ryou's departure.
Joshua blinked slowly as he watched Izo silently. Izo still was stiffened, not speaking nor seemed like he would move anytime soon. Joshua could only turn to Mayu just as she let go of him to hug herself as she herself shivered. "W-What was th-that?"
He caught her fearful tone and he half closed his eyes sadly. "I… it's…" he bit his lip as he met her pretty eyes. "It's… hard to say… truthfully, Mayu."
She bit her lip as well, subtly nodding with unease flashing in her turquoise eyes.
When Joshua turned to gaze towards Izo again, he found the teen to still remain motionless on the spot. "Izo?"
Izo didn't reply.
Joshua frowned deeply towards him before he scanned the frozen road around them. He noted it would be difficult to navigate with the possibility of slipping and sliding everywhere just as Ryou and Sora had.
So he braced himself before he carefully set his foot down, almost introducing his face to the hard, icy surface if he hadn't luckily regained his balance. After a few moments he attempted to move across again, this time fairing better and taking tiny steps as he traveled.
He reached his friend soon; nearly slipping the moment he gained too much speed. When he managed to win against gravity's threat, he stared at Izo's face. He saw how Izo kept squinting and keeping his head low and shoulders hunched. This wasn't a normal posture Izo held, Joshua felt like Ryou's words actually struck the frozen boy harder than he initially had assumed.
Slowly he reached forward to rest his shaking hand on Izo's shoulder, only for it to receive a slap and Joshua withdrew it promptly.
"Don't… Don't you dare touch me…" growled Izo in an almost fraught tone. Despite how Izo kept squinting his maroon eyes, Joshua sensed the blaze they had brewing inside them.
Joshua felt like he should say at least something, but Izo's tone made him rethink.
He kept his frown in place before he saw Izo's head slightly raise, the frozen boy kept squinting his eyes in his direction. "Where… Where are my glasses!?"
The ashen blond turned his head to the lonely white spectacles near the end of the icy ground before he replied to Izo, "There're over there, Izo."
"Then… acquire them for me!?" roared Izo angrily as he squinted more and lashed towards Joshua.
Joshua yelped and stepped back, slipping backwards before Izo's blow even met him. He let out a half shout as soon as the back of his head collided with the ground, leaving him to moan in pain as his vision blurred.
'Why…? Izo is acting so… he's acting so violent all of a sudden! I don't understand what's making him this outraged! It can't be because of me ripping out his hair when I was under… Leiko's spell… or something of that matter! What's going on with him? He never acted this violent at all last week… but he seems so stressed as well now…'
He stared up at Izo just as the frozen boy squinted again and lowered his head as Joshua caught him set his jaw rigid. 'I… I don't think asking him now would calm him down… nor would he give the best direct answer he can supply…'
Slowly he got up, feeling a tinge of dizziness strike through him as he swayed slightly and he froze midway. He let out a moan before he continued once everything stopped dancing in his vision. It took half a minute to locate Izo's glasses from afar again before he carefully ventured to them.
Luckily he found that Izo's glasses were mostly okay, yet he spotted a crack in the right lens that made him sigh in irritation. 'Oh dear… he won't be happy anytime soon.'
Once he returned Izo's glasses, he watched as Izo swiped them back fluently before grumbling about the damage they had taken. It took a moment of Izo squinting and blinking before he let out a grumpy grumble, "Dammit… damn boy… damn girl… feh!" he held the rim of his glasses and pressed them closer to his eyes. "Nattering about… them… fuck!"
Joshua let out a sigh but still felt the presence of his unease. He wondered how long it would take before Izo would calm down, considering the fact Rei wasn't here to do anything about it… yet he vaguely felt she would worsen Izo's condition.
He shifted a bit, hearing a clear crack and immediately snapped his attention to the melting ice below him. The air that felt bitterly like what should be at the northern point of the Earth ceased into the chilly wind that told him winter was around the corner. He now was certain that Izo created this cold temperature and the ice field that nearly, maybe possibly, would have trapped and erased Ryou and Sora.
Without a second thought, Joshua remarked dryly and he felt himself smirk slightly for some odd reason despite the situation, "This was an extreme occasion of cold, right Izo?"
Izo hardened his maroon eyes and didn't meet his gaze. "Feh… I didn't even notice."
"Huh!?" Joshua blinked at him confused; he kicked at a forming puddle of water. "I nearly froze! You should control this cold, Izo! Especially, the ice!"
Izo rounded onto him, snarling as his eyes burned in fury, "I couldn't have germinated this rime!"
"Of course you did!" yelled Joshua angrily as he glared at the dark blue haired teen. "You froze the whole area around us! No one else can do that! It had to have been you!"
The dark blue haired boy studied him before glancing around the gradually enlarging pool of water. He glared, as he seemed to be brooding in Joshua's opinion. "Tsk, I already told you… I couldn't have germinated this rime. I can force you to perish of frostbite, to perish of omitted oxygen, but budding rime and utilizing it… never…"
He spun around and started to stalk hastily away just as Joshua shouted, "Wait! If you can create ice there's a chance that you could use it in batt-"
Joshua was met with an ill-tempered glare as Izo roared, "Forget it! I can't use fucking ice to fight, Kiryu!"
Right away Joshua sucked in a sharp inhale of breath and stared at him. "Then… how did… how did they appear, Izo? What caused this? Ryou and Sora? Did they stress you out that much!? Was it… was it because they mentioned your-"
"Shut up!" roared Izo shrilly taking a step forward, his eyes almost crazed from the fury flaring up in them. "SHUT UP!"
Suddenly a row of icicles sprung out of the ground in front of Joshua, causing him to flip onto his back in shock before he was actually impaled himself. Numbly he stared at the icicles that shined bright and white in the sunlight, feeling himself go into a cold sweat as his blood chilled. For a while his mouth opened and closed stupidly, thinking about the fact he nearly got impaled!
It took some time for Joshua to pull himself to his feet; he was shaking as he did so. He saw the icicles glint and he gulped. 'That... That was so close...'
"Joshua! Are you okay!?" Mayu was beside him an instant; she was shaking as her eyes seemed to search his body for any injuries.
He nodded, shaking a bit still.
Soon he looked at Ayumu when he spoke up, "Did something happen to Josh?" he tilted his head to the side.
"I'm fine, Ayumu." Joshua wiped away the sweat from his forehead, he let out a sigh of annoyance as he felt some of the lukewarm liquid he missed roll down his face. "Don't worry about me."
"I can't." The petite blond just blankly stared at him. "I can't worry, Josh."
'Right...' Joshua felt more sweat drop down his face and he grimaced. 'Yuck! Sweat!'
Soon he turned back, peering over the ice wall to see Izo standing rigidly and gripping wads of his dark blue hair like he was ready to rip it out. Joshua frowned at him as frost accumulated slowly around the teen.
Eventually the antisocial poet slumped to his knees and let out a scream.
Joshua had no doubt now: Izo created the ice.
To be continued…
Hope you enjoyed the chapter =3
