*Chapter 107*
Tessa slowly got back on Lickity, and in the few seconds it took to feel a delirious sense of uneducated wonder, in the act of everything she just accomplished, with the moments it took to feel infinitely huge, she suddenly felt extraordinarily small; all eyes were on her. She raised her eyebrows in plucked nervousness and quickly gestured for Oliver to join her on Lickity. Without hesitation, he quickly climbed aboard, yet again, and gripped an arm around his sister's middle. Tessa finally peered back to Zed, the long, straightened strands of her silk hair slid off of her shoulder and flicked about. Her eye contact with his was riddled with dozens of notions, all good, tense and nervous, though Tessa finally let a smile grace her face as his smile was given to her, as if to show pride.
"C'mon, Lickity. Time to run," Tessa urged as she gently tugged on Lickity.
Lickity garbled a confused purr of inquisition as her sturdy, yet somehow innocently naive paws began to fumble forward. She gripped with the tangible, hot purple grid line that Tessa had summoned from the depth of the game. Lickity finally took a few long, trotting strides before the three were finally high above the crowded traffic below; everyone began to gawk, point and marvel at just what was going on. Tessa kept a few sharp glances at Zed, from behind her, to make sure him, Emery, and Zed's light cycle, made it onto the raised grid soundly. Just as Tessa was going to openly question if everyone was set, Zed revved the engine of his bike, which cued Tessa into a jolt of wonder, the racing code inside her skin suddenly ignited like a dry match. She smiled at his wordless challenge and gently tugged on Lickity's saddle grip a little harder, in which she also urged an excited few notions to get Lickity on an energetic gallop.
Lickity finally inhaled a deep breath and tried her very hardest not to spread her wings and take off. She jolted forward and with a few hard strides, she very quickly got into a rapid groove, her strong legs held a gracious amount of power. Tessa kept her eyes forward, on their path. The grid had intelligently mapped out exactly where they needed to go, to reach their destination. Lickity's strong being easily carried Tessa and Oliver down the light ribbon, her sharp claws made soft clacking noises as they whipped through the city, on the winding turns and dips the circuit board graced them with. Tessa could hear Zed's bike, behind the two, rev and growl according to hills and dips in the grid line, though Tessa furrowed her eyebrows in hard confusion as the growl of Zed's bike suddenly took to a different direction and aggression.
She largely whipped her line of sight behind her and flinched, as Zed had manipulated Tessa's grid line, branched off, and formed his own light blue one, that seemingly stemmed off of hers. It appeared with the very curvature of the front of Zed's front tire, as if Zed was just as eager to try his crown on for size. He cranked his engine harder, and as if to playfully toy with Tessa's authority, he whipped around the side of her and sped off, though not without giving Tessa, Oliver and Lickity a playfully snide smile.
Tessa lightly gaped and, in the split seconds of decisions she tried to run through her mind, both as Queen and as an opposing, rebellious, free spirit, Lickity took the opportunity to make up Tessa's mind for her. With a loud, challenging growl, Lickity suddenly lunged forward, with all of her power, and began to chase after Zed's light-cycle, like a predator hunting the last bit of prey on the plains. Tessa widened her eyes and hunkered down to Lickity, as did Oliver, though Tessa felt a wide smile grace her face at just how enthusiastic Lickity had suddenly become. She exhaled a hard laugh as Lickity easily caught up to Zed's incredibly fast bike; Tessa almost couldn't even believe it.
Zed beamed a cheeky smile and peered over his shoulder, though his eyes bulged, as if he was expecting to find that he had left the three castle residents in the dust. Lickity bellowed an excited roar and, with ironic grace, she sped past Zed. She dipped into a tight turn, on the neon light ribbon and cut corners with the utmost of ease; her rudder-like tail greatly aided her in sharp turns and banks. Oliver shouted an undecipherable notion to Tessa, though he did so through a hard laugh, which assured to Tessa that he wasn't too worried. She bit her bottom lip, through a victorious smile, and hunkered closer to Lickity's spine, to help aid in the speed she was quickly gaining. Lickity let her wings hang just a little bit underneath the light-ribbon they ran on, a strict, rigid formation she used for added balance.
The warm, summer wind whipped through their hair and Lickity's fur. Tessa tried her hardest to get glimpses of the gorgous city they flew through, though the blinding lights of all the cars underneath, as well as the numerous, dazzling city lights, made it hard to take everything in all at once. The futuristic look of the city crowned the ancient, stone city base with a delightful sense of old become new. Large, sprawling green trees, that kept the air crisp and clear, hung in height with the lower buildings, though hugged the sky scrapers base. The brooding storm clouds above was a sure fire sign that Stonecrest was in for it's nightly thunderstorm, which was just what Tessa was looking forward to.
Before too much more chaos could ensue, the purple light ribbon finally made one last dip straight into the ground; Lickity took this awesome opportunity to take a final, powerful lunge. She largely dove to the ground and, with a hard few gallops and a gentle skid, with the aid of her wings, she came to a stop and reared up on her hind legs. Zed's loud and angry light-cycle easily whipped around Lickity as he performed a perfect drift. The asphalt underneath had a complete hay-day of hot blue and purple pixels, as if the game was excited that something out of the norm was happening, for once. Tessa exhaled a loud laugh and threw her fists in the air as Lickity finally slumped back down to her forefeet, though not without a hard, victorious snort towards Zed's piece of machinery she knew could never replace her.
"The winner!" Tessa hollered as the people, surrounding the large ice-cream shop they finally came to, began to point and stand in awe and confusion.
"You cheated!" Oliver barked in hard annoyance as he slid off of Lickity's back and jumped onto the ground. He ruffled his hair a little and tried his hardest to straighten his now ruffled tux; he took off his coat and scoffed a small mumble of annoyance.
"I did not!" Zed argued as his bike's engine finally began to settle, he gently peered over his shoulder to Emery, "It was her idea, anyhow!"
"Emery!" Tessa giggled as, she too, got off of Lickity.
"That was AWESOME!" Emery suddenly blurted as she unglued her nervous arms from Zed's center; everyone peered to her in surprise at her outburst, "I-I don't think I've ever had so much fun."
"Really?" Oliver wondered as he wrinkled his nose and gave her a kind smile, he was fascinated in this outgoing mood that had washed over her.
"Yeah," Emery scoffed as Zed dismounted his lightbike and reached for Emery's hands, to help her off as well. She slid her slightly trembling hands into his and eased off of his bike, with his help, "I-I don't ever go on fast bike rides like that, or anything."
"You should take Lickity for a spin, sometime," Tessa cocked an eyebrow, gestured back towards Lickity, and gently began to straighten out her dress, "That'll do yah in."
"User, I didn't think Lickity could get up and go that quickly," Zed chuckled as Lickity gently bound over to him and nuzzled her snout into the palm of his hand, "Good job, girly."
"Unbeatable, eh?" Tessa eased, in a snotty tone, as she neared him. She slyly held her arms behind her back and shook her head, along with a cute display of girly charm. Oliver and Emery loudly continue to talk about the wild ride they just endured.
"You're on one of MY dragons," Zed reminded as he grinned and gave her a cocky side-eye.
"Who's her rider?" Tessa volleyed.
"Who can delete her?" Zed remained frozen in his grin and sarcastically mean side-eye.
"Who can delete YOU?" Tessa barked as she nudged her fist into Zed's arm; he wobbled and exhaled a hard laugh, "Sore loser."
"Will you make it up to me?" Zed darkly wondered as Oliver and Emery budged into their bubble, the five began to messily mosey up the glorious, few stepped stoop of the ice-cream shop.
"Don't you wish," Tessa retorted with a snotty smile as her and Emery linked arms in a girly way; Emery continued to hold on to a winded, excited grin as she straightened out her hair.
"Yeah, yeah, you'll put whipped cream somewhere special, dance around naked, and call it Sugar Rush," Oliver rushed loudly, in an annoyed tone, as he waved his hand around and shoved on Zed's shoulder. Zed exhaled a hard grunt of a laugh as the two boys took a few steps ahead of Lickity, Tessa and Emery. Oliver and Zed stumbled a few times before Oliver finally caught Zed loosely around the shoulder, in a brotherly way, "Betcha money I'll beat you to losing codes."
"What?" Zed choked as he gave Oliver a look of the utmost surprise, "What are you saying!"
"You heard me," Oliver chuckled; the five slowly began to push into the crowded shop. Oliver was thankful their conversation couldn't be heard by the two girls that began to drift farther behind them, "I will bet you money I can lose my code before you do."
"That's not fair," Zed argued as he lightly elbowed Oliver's rib cage, "If you're talking about swapping with Emery, then you're all set. You don't have to worry about ANYTHING."
"Y'chicken?" Oliver dared, though Zed furrowed his eyebrows in growing surprise and gave Oliver an incredulous gape.
"WHY are you encouraging this? Did we not have a HUGE blow-out about this topic a week ago?" Zed wildly gestured his arms in hard annoyance, though he heaved a confused laugh.
"I know, I know!" Oliver rolled his eyes with a wide grin, "It just got me thinking. You're invincible, right?"
"Unbeatable," Zed muttered, "Why is that so hard for everyone to grasp?"
"I know something I CAN beat you at," Oliver looked extremely smug, "You'll never swap with Tessa until all that crazy additive is deleted."
"So?" Zed volleyed with a cheeky smile, "Why is it so important to you, all of the sudden?"
"Because! The big, bad, Dead Zed finally can be beat," Oliver said loudly, though he flinched as Tessa and Emery softly budged into their conversation, aside from their own.
"I know, we just beat him in the race to get here," Tessa gestured to the large, golden double doors that hung open, to the ice-cream shop. The hung in the large opening of the shop and, with Emery still kindly on her arm, she began to look around for the line to get ice cream.
"I'm only unbeatable on my race tracks," Zed rushed in annoyance, "Dead Zed? I'm the dead last boss!"
"That or you come IN dead last!" Oliver blurted.
"I'm not single anymore," Zed uttered through a hard sigh as he let his eyes lull closed; he beamed a playful smile and shook his head as he continued, with his eyes closed, "I'm currently beat, and will continue to be beat, for the rest of my little life... Besides. You're more shy than I am. You really think you're bold enough to beat me in that venture? You're the King of shyness!"
"I am not," Oliver argued as he furrowed his thick, black eyebrows and set his soft stare into Zed's; he attempted to look threatening.
"You're not going to beat me, with this one, Olly," Zed shook his head and beamed Oliver a confident smile.
"How much y'willin' to bet?" Oliver side-eyed his brother and gave him a daring, closed-mouth smile. Zed furrowed his eyebrows as the two held intimidating eye contact for a handful of painful, silent seconds.
"Fine. I'll bet youuu..." Zed trailed off, lightly stroked the scrufflies on his chin, and looked up to the glorious, cream and marble arched ceilings above; Emery, Tessa and Lickity began to meander away, for a menu. Zed's brilliant eyes darted around before they finally hooked into Oliver's, "My light-cycle."
"Your LIGHT-CYCLE?" Oliver ogled, though he scoffed a loud laugh and put his hand to his forehead, "Are you nuts?"
"No, I'm confident you'll lose," Zed eased with a smug smile, "And if I win, once I'm King, you have to do what I say, for one whole day, every single week."
"That's stupid," Oliver retorted, "What, you gunna make me dance around Game Central Station?"
"Naked? Yeah!" Zed chimed, as if it were merely a delightful task; Oliver gave Zed a hard, annoyed glare.
"If it means I can ride away on your vintage Tron light-cycle, I don't care if clothing is involved," Oliver muttered in torn frustration.
"What a sight," Zed wrinkled his nose in disgusted and largely rolled his eyes, though he held out his hand to Oliver and gave him a smug, confident smile, "Deal?"
Oliver glanced at Zed's hand, then to the baton that poked out of Zed's inner jacket pocket; his light-cycle, in baton form, still glowed electric blue at the ends, and practically taunted Oliver. He finally huffed a hard sigh through the gap in the front of his teeth and reached for Zed's hand.
"Deal."
