A/N: Alright guys! Sketchdump time! I know this TECHNICALLY isn't chapter 150, but I figured I'd be nice and open them a chapter early. If you would like to see ANY scene, from the entirety of DEFYING CODE, leave a review on THIS or the NEXT chapter, of your drawing request, and I will upload the sketchdump to my deviantART! If certain scenes get enough requests, I will full on color said scene (like last time)
This is JUST for Defying Code, from the past 150 chapters (I won't be re-drawing scenes that have already been drawn in previous sketchdumps!) Also, I will be putting either Defying Code and/or Rectifying Origin spoilers at the very END of the sketchdump, so if any of you want to avoid spoilers, just be aware, the drawings titled in hot red at the very bottom of the sketchdump are, indeed, spoilers :)
Song Listened To : King by Lauren Aquilina
*Chapter 149*
Tessa sharply inhaled the humid, summer air. The jungles, underneath, swayed and outstretched their arms and branches to their new Queen. As much as Tessa so badly wanted to see feather-dusted, snowy gumdrop peaks in the far, mint horizon, she knew she had to somehow embrace this wild, wild world into her heart and claim it as her new kingdom. She furrowed her eyebrows and wondered, with what stroke of luck, that she just so happened to be engaged to the very core of this incredible, though not edible, game; let alone, about to bear an heir, the first heir, to Dead Zed's humble grid. She smiled, through and through, and though the pain of her sugary loss still hung at the bottom of her heart, she knew when she was way up in the clouds, with Lickity, every single worry was left on the ground.
She wrinkled an annoyed smile and was kindly reminded she was guiding five lonely boys, whom of which were beyond eager to be reunited with their oldest brother. Lickity cut the sky in half, with flattened ears and taught wings, her whole being exuded speed. Tessa leaned into Lickity's spine a little farther, though she lightly looked back and past the down-stroke of Lickity's wing. She caught a glimpse of the trail of grumbling bikes, eagerly twisting and turning through the jungle terrain, to keep up with Tessa's speed demon. She pat the side of Lickity's neck, to cue to her, and leaned a little closer to her ear.
"I can tell you want to lose them," Tessa giggled over the whipping wind; she could feel a chuckle shake from Lickity's powerful rib cage.
"So badly," Lickity grumbled as she lightly lifted her head, to glance over her shoulder, "We gott'a lot'a sky to catch up on, Tess."
"You said it," Tessa said through a long sigh as she gently sat up, slumped her shoulders, and let Dead Zed's atmosphere hit her head on, "I just wish it was Sugar Rush's sky..."
She shook her head and opened her hands, by her thighs, as if to somehow hope to catch the jungle air that pushed into their bodies. Her long hair whipped over her shoulder as Lickity's massive, bat wings nearly encompassed her being with the up-stroke. Tessa grimaced a small smile and so badly wanted to let her heart continue to crumple and grieve. She knew her mind was still numb to every bad-happening that had been placed on her, in the span of about two hours. She somehow felt invincible; as if she could cheat sadness, escape the turmoil, like life was moving too quickly for it to catch up. She knew though, one stumble, one falter, and she would be immediately sucked into the void; she angrily shoved the thoughts away.
Tessa smiled softly and finally sunk back to Lickity's spine as she could see Zed's familiar, old town, as well as the entrance of the game, come into view. Lickity's massive shadow, on the jungle trees below, became more crisp as she bowed closer to them. The rush of the leaves that whizzed past, the smell of the moist surface below, succulent scents of wild flora; Tessa knew these were all knew scents that she'd have to take time to get to know and understand. As bizarre as it was growing up around candy, she knew no one would understand her dilemma. Not even Lickity.
Right on the outskirts of town, Lickity gently melted into the trees and, with unsurpassed agility, she weaved through massive branches. Her ears held taut to the sound of the five rumbling bikes from behind her. As she neared the ground, her feet lightly gripped with the wet soil, and with a sturdy gallop, she came to a slow stop and tucked her wings up and tight to her body, so to protect Tessa from any splatter of dirt the five bikes could possibly throw their way. With a chorus of powerful engines, that seemingly calmed to an idle, each boy found a proper place to stop in the clearing they had gathered in. Finn was first to take off his goggles and give Tessa his attention.
"How much further?" Finn wondered as, one by one, each boy powered off their bikes and dismounted. Tessa pat Lickity's strong shoulders, as a job well done, and kept her gaze to Finn's.
"We're here," Tessa lightly pointed through the foliage, that eventually thinned out, "Zed's old home is right through this patch of bushes and trees.
"Y'think he's home?" Finn wondered as he slumped his goggles to around his neck; each boy followed suit, their appropriately colored goggles rested on their strong collars.
"Yeah, that's where he said he'd be heading," Tessa nodded as, she too, dismounted Lickity, with the help of the thumb on Lickity's wing.
"So, how's this gunna go down?" Orph's deep voice crackled their silence; Tessa sharply turned about and hissed him a shush. He flinched and held his hand up, "Alright, find chill."
Tessa so desperately tried to hold onto an authoritative grimace, though she hiccuped a small laugh and instantly felt her heart grow a pang of warmth towards Orph; she desperately tried to shove the feeling away, however. Somehow, his 'could give two shits' attitude drove her mad, beyond the point of forever annoyed, though she also couldn't help but be reeled in by his obnoxious charm. She often felt similar towards Oliver, though she was glad that there were five boys here to at least somewhat fill the massive void that was her love for her real brother.
"We just gunna jump 'im?" Duke wondered quietly as the six moved through the jungle, though the opening in the brilliant green leaves revealed the side of Zed's old, worn loft. Hot blue painted bricks that showed wear and tear; an old building with the biggest dollop of charisma.
"Whatever you guys gotta do to get him in our clutches, and keep him there, until we reach The Flip Side," Tessa whispered, though she finally put her hands on her hips and turned around to cue the five to slow to a stop, "So long as y'keep him alive."
"Pretty sure the news, you're about to drop on him, will kill him before WE ever do," Jax whispered loudly, he nudged Orph's arm.
"Hey Zeddy, y'deleted yourself!" Orph barked, though he made sure to lower his voice this time, "Oh also, I'm pregnant! Two weeks seems like a long enough time to brace yourself, yeah? You can learn how to be a dad in that amount of time, right?"
"Yeah, I'll be fine, though I can hardly take care of me'self!" Jax mocked in a hillbilly voice; each boy busted out in laughter they so desperately tried to muffle; all except Finn, who rolled his eyes and gave Tessa a dull stare of disbelief.
"What is babby?" Orph snorted as they continued to mock Zed.
"Guys," Finn argued quietly, "Y'know what that idiot has over all of us?"
"The fact that he got some?" Tessa didn't miss a beat. She wagged her finger and let a wide, snarky smile sprawl her face, "The fact that he'll eventually be King of Sugar Rush? That fact that becoming Users was all made possible by him?"
Orph let his playful smile slope to a slow grimace of annoyance.
"Having a small family might be too difficult, though, maybe you're right," Tessa snapped sarcastically with a nod towards Orph; he shook his head and began to lightly push past Tessa.
"Right. Where is this idiot, let's get this over with, yeah?" Orph rushed; Tessa beamed.
"Yep," She quipped, her and Lickity easily swapped the same facial expression written with annoyed sass.
"Alright, Orph, we'll get the bag ready then?" Duke wondered quietly, everyone slowly began to mosey through the thinning foliage as a messy group of six. Lickity hung in the balance, for she knew she'd be needed eventually.
"Yeah, you guys hang back here," Orph gestured as him and Tessa pushed on with each other, though not on purpose. Orph idly glanced her an annoyed look and, as much as he hated to admit it, he knew he'd need her help, "Tessa, I guess, uh... I guess you can maybe coerce him out of his house, then?"
Tessa opened her mouth to oddly agree, though the two flinched as there was suddenly a loud sanding, whirring sound present from Zed's humble, still home. She felt her heart pang with memories that came flooding back to her. She whirled around and froze in stunned knowing, of which she was positive neither of these boys would understand. She raised her eyebrows in poised surprise and felt oncoming tears want to come to fruition. She bit her bottom lip as the methodical sanding continued on, she knew exactly what Zed was up to; simply him in Zane's brain. She choked a small breath of a noise and shook her head, though her teary eyes caught with Orph's in growing shyness. She cleared her throat and gently gestured on.
"Y-yeah, I'll... I'll spark his interest and then I guess you guys can jump him, or whatever you're planning on doing," Tessa mumbled, though Orph's confused snark of an expression slowly sloped to genuine concern as Tessa sharply pushed forward. He flinched and followed, though the rustling of the four boys behind them only lightly came to a halt.
"Hey, you uh... You okay?" Orph wondered quietly as he skipped a step to catch up to Tessa's firm pace. The two rounded the large wall of Zed's old loft, she held her hand back and eagerly peered about the corner. Orph only barely followed her lead, "Is... Is he there?"
"Yeah," Tessa breathed as she fixed her gaze to the bizarre sight.
Zed sat in the center of his large, airy garage in which sat tucked underneath his old, small loft. Both large garage doors were open to let in the powerful sunshine. Trained hands sanded away at an old surfboard, his black faux-hawk was messy as his head hung over his craft. His strong arms and shoulders showed through his grey tank, he sat criss-cross on his loved concrete. His brilliant blue eyes honed to the task at hand, and though his mind was sat in the present, Tessa could swear she was looking over her shoulder straight into the past. Her mind immediately reeled to the very first days she had begun to fall in love with him; the days he taught her to dance for the Academy Ball. The days where the warmth of the universe was in his every single count in time, every smile he effortlessly gave her tired figure, every storm the two danced in. The naive thought of simply falling for a cheeky beach bum of a faux-code with cool hair. Tessa gasped a small, silent breath and in a reflex to seek any form of true comfort, her larger fingers absent-mindedly groped for Orph's hand, which hung by his side. Orph raised his eyebrows in surprise, and just as he was about to lightly reel his hand away, he double took on Tessa's strong figure.
Orph froze and gazed at the side of her face, the way her sad eyes held perfectly trained to the raw sight before her. He held his breath and, for the first time in his life, he felt his heart grow tender, a warmth that he suddenly was aware he so badly needed. He slumped his shoulders and realized Tessa's pain, once and for all. The way her shoulders looked as if they were about to cave into her rib cage, the bags under her eyes that proved she was beyond exhausted. As foreign as it was, he allowed Tessa's larger fingers to continue to reel his into a bit more of a naive grip. He swallowed nervously as his heart began to throb in confusion, the fact that a raw being, such as Tessa's existence, so suddenly craved camaraderie for Zed. Something Orph, and his other four brothers, struggled with for a long time now. Orph let his eyes warily travel down Tessa's arm to both of their messily conjoined fingers, though before he could convince himself to harden his act, he opened his mouth and warmly pushed his spiky, comfortable shell away.
"I miss'im too," Orph mumbled under his breath as he kindly tilted his head down and to the side, to hopefully gain eye contact with Tessa.
He reeled back a small amount as her eyes finally drew to his in a sludge of sadness. She inhaled a deep, shaky breath and finally let her whole hand sink into his, as if she was suddenly thrilled to feel his sharp exterior fall to the wayside, even if it was only for her eyes, and likely only for mere moments.
"W-We'll get him back," Tessa stated, though she so badly wanted to form said truth into a question. She squinted gently and kept her wavering eye contact to Orph's silver stare, which hesitantly grew warmer and warmer.
"We have to," Orph dared to let his teeth show through a smirk, "He now has a legacy. Dead Zed's first heir... Who better than to raise said heir than him? As much of a dork he is, really..."
Tessa finally let Orph's contagious, snarky smile overcome her and she finally let her gap-tooth expression brightly drape them in bittersweet happiness. Orph lightly glanced to Zed's whereabouts and held to the strange sight.
"We'll get this idiot back home safely," Orph assured in a whisper as he seemingly gazed across the gap, though Tessa could tell it was taking all of Orph's self control to not go rocketing into the garage and yank his big brother into a long over-due hug. Orph nodded once and finally gave his attention to Tessa's glassy eyes, "We have to. We don't have a choice."
"How many times have you hog-tied Zed to achieve this much hidden excitement?" Tessa finally let a whisper of a giggle escape her tired figure. She squeezed Orph's hand as he chuckled, as well, and looked down in growing cheek, "You act as if this is the first and last time you'll ever get to do something like this."
"Because it is," Orph wheezed through a hard chuckle as he gave Tessa his warm gaze, "He's a slippery one, Zed. Unbeatable. Nothing gets past him... This is the only time I will ever get to, quite literally, pull the wool over his eyes."
"Good thing he won't remember, then," Tessa scoffed quietly as the two peered back around the blue-bricked corner and assessed his whereabouts. Tessa fingered her lip in growing contemplation and felt her heart begin to race as she plot her very first detrimental move.
"Do or die," Orph encouraged as he gripped the wound length of rope in his free hand.
