A/N: Hey guys, it's not too late to give me your sketch requests! I've gotten so many, there are hardly any duplicates this time! There's maybe 2 or 3 scenes that a handful of people asked for - I'll likely pick my favorite and color only one of them. But, otherwise, I'll have maybe 15-20 sketches for the sketchdump. *Chapter 151*
At this point in time, Tessa was diligent in making sure all five of Zed's younger brother's were hot on Lickity's tail. As quick as she wanted to get there, alongside Lickity's wild fervor, she knew she needed to be reserved in this moment, so everyone got to The Flip Side safely. She was aware their presence there wasn't detrimental, though she knew that, if things went as accordingly planned, they would want to see their oldest brother as soon as humanely possible. Tessa hissed a hard breath of anxiousness as she finally turned her upper body around and faced normality aboard Lickity. She lovingly gripped the tough, though gorgeous feathers and fur that lined the back of Lickity's thick neck. Her large bat ears intelligently twisted to such a small degree, though to show that they were opened in Tessa's direction, to catch any detection of her confused and torn demeanor.
"We'll get there, Tess," Lickity eased above the wind, her large wings aided in yet another helpful down stroke.
"I know," Tessa whispered as she lulled her eyes closed into a half attempt at rolling them, though she leaned her upper body down on Lickity's warm fur and slumped into her existence. She breathed a worn breath and nuzzled her face into the scales that hid underneath Lickity's scruff. She shook her head, alongside her nuzzling, and tucked her fists closer to her face, as if to cocoon away from the world.
"I can see it from here," Lickity's warm, raspy voice reverberated from her being, "Just make sure those boys are following me."
Tessa softly peeked open an eye and, with half an effort, she leaned over Lickity's side just barely and caught sight of Finn through the jungle foliage. She nodded and returned to her place on Lickity's spine.
"They are," Tessa barely whispered, though she knew with Lickity's expert, supersonic hearing, she hardly even had to speak in order to be heard.
"Zed won't stop squirming," Lickity said through a breath of a chuckle as she adjusted the grip of her back feet on the bag she carried. She tilted her head down a little, to get a good look at the positioning of Zed's safety, "Poor guy."
"I'm sure it'll all work out," Tessa mumbled as she let her eyes close, yet again, to avoid tears from forming. She knew her words held a massive amount of depth, though she also was aware that she had a hard time believing an ounce of it.
After a handful of long moments of steady flying, in which Tessa left wholly to Lickity's aid, she finally sat up, in a sludge of soreness and re-fixed her eyes to their approaching destination. She inhaled a deep breath of Dead Zed's warm atmosphere, she filled her lungs with it's existence and knew her time to sulk was over. She furrowed her eyebrows and glared down the land; she knew they were half way through the problem, though she prayed that somehow entering The Flip Side would gain Zed's whole being back. She bit her lip in nervous determination as she could feel Lickity's spine gain a bit more tension, as if she had cued to Tessa's mopey behavior and almost let it overcome the two. Lickity perked her ears, gave a hard down-stroke of her wings and gained a small amount more of speed.
"There's my Tess," Lickity stated enthusiastically, which caused a weak chuckle to shake from Tessa's figure. She gripped the fur on Lickity's spine, lovingly, and set her determined gaze to the quickly approaching clearing, one of which she knew well. She felt her heart throb in growing nervousness.
"I may have my moments, but I'm still Queen of Sugar Rush," Tessa snapped, mostly to encourage herself. She inhaled a readied breath, deeper than prior, "Mixed with Zed's unbeatable coding, I'm not too sure the universe is ready for something so scary."
"Are you talking about your offspring?" Lickity garbled a laugh as she continued to gain more speed, Tessa cued to her laughter as well.
"Potentially," Tessa scoffed with a half-smile, though she tucked herself to Lickity's body, in a riding stance, and lightly pat the back of Lickity's neck, to cue her to finally gain however much speed she wanted; she knew she couldn't lose the five boys with how close their destination was, now.
Lickity wasted no time in dipping down to the planet, only slightly, to cut the atmosphere in half. She bared her teeth in excitement, flattened her ears and held every sail and wing on her body taut with the ripping wind. Tessa breathed a noise of elated excitement as they rapidly approached The Flip Side. The clearing was as gorgeous and as flawless as ever. Embraced by the greenest grass, massive, mossy jungle trees that beckoned them to come play. The dead-center of the clearing still held true to the beautiful, endless pit of reverse coding that Tessa could swear gained enchantment. Because the normal game's sky read that of brilliant colors coming to a close, with peeks of stars on the horizon and a sun that wouldn't quit, The Flip Side's entrance was graced with a gentle sunrise, though the pool of it all was still splayed with the most gorgeous displays of stars and stardust. Tessa felt a chill go down her spine as Lickity banked around the massive clearing, wings angled in such a way that kept Tessa's view of the situation at full capacity. She grew nearly dizzy with the odd sight below her, though she quickly trained her eyes to the five racers that apprehensively made their way into the grassy clearing, aboard their sturdy, grumbling bikes.
With all the grace in the world, Lickity came closer to the ground, slowed her speed and set the bag down, which held a still very squirmy Zed. She set him near the entrance of The Flip Side and softly landed beside him. She stood with power, her wing still lightly splayed, though her curious eyes remained glued to the endless pool near her, as if the sight wigged out her eyes and whole existence, though she couldn't look away. Once all five racers dismounted their bikes and approached, Tessa quickly climbed off of Lickity and caught Finn's line of sight first. She cued to him as they all came within each other's bubbles.
"Y'weren't kidding," Finn hissed in hard surprise as he shoved his hand to his forehead and peered about the strange, mirror like pool that lay beveled in the beautiful grass. Tessa heaved a small laugh and looked back at the gorgeous sight.
"It's weird being back here, on such dire terms," Tessa frowned as she finally gave her attention back to Finn. Orph, Duke, Tej and Jax all came alongside Tessa and Finn as Tessa continued on, "This place holds a lot of wonderful memories, for me."
"Zed brought you here?" Finn kindly wondered as Jax was first to brave the mirror in the grid, a mere powerful rip in time that seemingly hummed with life.
"Well... Actually, Zane brought me here," Tessa heaved a small giggle and looked back to the bag Zed was in, in which Lickity was protecting, "That was before he revealed to me that he was Zed."
"Oh, so Zane is someone you knew well?" Finn wondered with growing cheek, Orph breathed a chuckle, crossed his arms and looked down.
"Yes," Tessa sighed as she slumped her shoulders, though she wondered if she should hold onto the tension that the situation called for, "Only difference here is... Zed wasn't deleted. He was simply hiding behind a fake identity... With deleting Radex from Dead Zed, Zed accidentally deleted himself as a whole... I guess, since The Flip Side has Zed's actual coding still embedded in the game, the left-over coding needed something to hold onto. Which would be his old alias..."
"I'm surprised you haven't broken down, by now," Duke dared, though his tone was gentle and loving as he gave Tessa a suspicious side-eye. Tessa gave him an elated, grateful smile and shrugged.
"I'm just in overdrive," Tessa chuckled, which cued all boys to breath small laughs, towards her notion, as well, "I can't stop to break down... Nothing will get accomplished and reversed back to normal if I sit and sulk."
Finn squinted his eyes and gave Tessa a look of growing realization, as if he was excited to continue to learn more about her. He lazily crossed his arms, shifted on his feet, and let the warm lull of the swaying grass coat their existence's with a strange feeling of a sleepy calm. He breathed a small chuckle and, with a small shake of his head, all four of his younger brothers honed their attention to the two.
"Sugar Rush took a huge loss, today," Finn's warm voice glossed over Tessa. She just barely furrowed her eyebrows and, through a look of growing appreciation, she gently nodded once and bit the inside of her bottom lip. Tears gently welled in her eyes, though she inhaled a strong breath to keep her composure as Finn carried on, "You would've made a wonderful Queen."
Tessa finally showed her teeth and smiled, though two tears escaped her strict composure as she looked down to the velvet grass, beneath them. She shook her head and, with the loving caress of the warm wind, which escaped The Flip Side, her hair softly lulled over her shoulder and flicked about. She finally averted her piercing gaze back to Finn's and gave him a look of elated, undefeated determination.
"I can still be Queen," Tessa assured dominantly, though softly, "This isn't over, yet."
"Good attitude," Finn winked, his wise demeanor held eons over everyone. Tessa breathed a small laugh and, as she collected some of her hair, she peered over her shoulder to Lickity and Jax, who eagerly peered into the delirious sights of The Flip Side together. She let a loving smile chase after the two before she gave her attention back to the four boys before her, "I should go..."
"How long will you be gone?" Orph suddenly blurted in growing sadness he wasn't prepared to show, though he cleared his throat and nervously gestured outwards as Duke, Tej and Finn shot him solid looks of confusion, "I-I... I mean, I don't want to be sitting here forever, Queen Bee, we're racers, not campers."
"I will likely be gone for a few hours," Tessa held her fingertips to her sternum and collar, though she hooked her curious gaze into Orph's, "Though, because of the weird rip in time, that is The Flip Side, we'll only be gone for a few seconds. So you won't have to wait too long to see me again, Orph."
"I just know I'll get hungry if I wait for too long," Orph demanded quietly as he crossed his arms and tried to collect himself and prove he was a stubborn piece of work.
"Time is halted in The Flip Side?" Finn wondered curiously; little frays of his dark, grey-blue hair began to show through the dreads of his strict, pulled back ponytail.
"Yeah, essentially... Either that or incredibly sped up," Tessa shrugged as she peered back to Jax and Lickity. The bag, in which Zed was in, was frozen still, as if Zed had potentially given up trying to escape, "We'll likely only be gone for a few seconds... To me, it'll seem like a lifetime, though."
"It'll be okay," Finn assured, "Clearly, we'll be right here waiting for your guys' return."
"Thanks, guys," Tessa eased softly, she gave each boy a look of pure appreciation, "I-I... I always knew you guys would rally together, for Zed's sake. I didn't think it'd work out this flawlessly, though."
"We may have a bone to pick with him, but he IS still our brother," Duke's deep voice glossed over everyone, he crossed his arms and smiled, "... This situation is a little bit more dire, considering you're now expecting his child, and our niece or nephew."
"I guess I sort of slipped into this family without really asking, didn't I," Tessa mumbled as she nervously scanned over Finn's existence and glanced down to the ground, though she flinched once Finn reached out a loving hand and gripped her left hand in his.
"Stop," Finn urged quietly, "You never needed to ask... Besides. This is something none of us could help."
"It's just good that you're chill," Tej chuckled, though he bashfully rubbed the back of his head and looked about, "I-It would suck if you were like this prissy princess that constantly complained, or something."
"If Zed is anything like us, I think he knows better than to go after any girl with that attitude," Duke nudged Tej; both boys chuckled.
"Thanks, you guys," Tessa eased softly as she finally squeezed Finn's hand and began to take a wary step away, "I-I guess... We'll be back."
Finn nodded and, as Tessa's hand slipped from his, Duke, Orph, Tej and Finn all began to follow Tessa in approaching the massive pool of the softest, kindest light. With all the curiosity in the world, the boys over looked the strange sight and kept their respectful distance. Once Jax saw Tessa approach, he nervously took a few steps away and joined his brothers. They stood a solid ten feet from the silent chaos and anxiously watched as Tessa uttered a few notions towards Lickity, and with a gentle scoop of the bag, Zed was in, into Lickity's powerful paw, both girls began to nervously step out onto what appeared to be nothing but sky. All five boys tensed in growing anxiousness for the situation, as if protecting Tessa, and her's and Zed's unborn coding, was now the highest thing on their to-do list.
Lickity uttered a noise of compliance, as if she was not too thrilled by this whole idea. The intense slit of her pupils, as well as her wings tucked tight to her body, cued to Tessa that she was extremely uncomfortable. Though, once the two were in the dead center of the mirror, Tessa turned around and lovingly held her hand to Lickity's snout, to ease her rushing mind. Lickity held her piercing gaze straight into Tessa's soul, as if to ask if this was a normal experience she had gone through before. Tessa just barely nodded and, though she gave Lickity a nervous smile, she still exuded confidence. Lickity only lightly slumped her shoulders and wings as the gentle, warm breeze licked all around their bodies. Tessa slowly peered back to Zed's five brothers; all of them looked on in poised, nervous and frozen agitation, as if letting Tessa go was likely a poor idea, though they knew they had no choice in the subject matter. Tessa burned the image of all five racers deep in her mind, knowing full well, they'd still be in that same position when her, Zed and Lickity returned.
Before she could call to them, a goodbye, an affirmation, anything, their bodies began to lightly fade, and the sky grew a color of renewed, morning purple and blue. With a pale orange on the horizon, and a dark sky riddled with stars on the other side of the atmosphere, Tessa knew their plan had worked. She peered about the glorious clearing they were in, though it now lacked Zed's brothers and their respective bikes. Tessa slumped her shoulders with relief and quickly gave Lickity a nervous look. The two began to step out of the mirror of The Flip Side and, once Tessa's feet hit the dark, though warm grass, millions of memories came flooding back to her. She exhaled a small breath and peered about. Millions of rushing thoughts, from when her and Zed shared their first kiss, came rushing back. The night of the Academy Ball; she flinched and wondered just what lifetime that had to have happened in. She shook her head, with how far away that seemed, though she quickly brought her attention back to the task at hand.
Once the two were a good twenty feet from the entrance of The Flip Side, Lickity set the bag down in the soft grass. Tessa's whole demeanor relaxed with the dim, barely rising sunshine, though her heart raced as the bag, in which Zed was in, lightly began to squirm with a bit more purpose. Tessa nervously grappled for the ties, on the bag, and began to gently tear at it. Lickity hung back in silence and nervously awaited their fate. Tessa bit her bottom lip in growing anticipation, though the second she pulled back the opening of the bag, she felt her heart jump as Zed's brilliant blue eyes hooked into hers. The sight of the pop of his electric blue hair had Tessa's skin riddled with goosebumps.
"Tess?" Zed urged in hard agitation as he gripped the thick bag he was hidden in, "What... What's this about?"
"You're back," Tessa pleaded as she dove into his embrace and slapped her arms around his neck. Zed jolted and, with his sitting position, the two flopped nearly into a deeper kneel.
"Back?" Zed softly wondered as he held Tessa in his warm embrace, though with a simple, slow look around, he felt his brain wash to the ultimate calm that was The Flip Side. He exhaled a slow breath and let reality sink in. He furrowed his eyebrows and held Tessa tight in his arm, as he held himself propped with the other arm. As if in the calmest, kindest stupor he could ever imagine, he let the frozen lick of time come to his pixels as he exhaled a final, warm breath, "The Flip Side... I don't think I'm brave enough to ask just what's going on..."
