Chapter 3
A Shift In the Wind
A/N: Wow, It's been a while. I honestly thought I would abandon this story but it seems fate has determined otherwise. I do think I need a Beta however. I suck at punctuation, but at least I know that about myself haha. I hope to get back into the swing of everything and to anyone who actually reads this. Thank You, dearly. I mean it.
Disclaimer: I don't own or claim to own any of J.K Rowling's Harry Potter Characters or Plot line. I sadly only own my dear Violet and Peter.
Potions Class
Settling herself into her chair, Rose rest her head against the desk and groaned. 'This can not be happening', she thought. 'since when do I care about Scorpius Malfoy and his stupid, puppy dog of a girlfriend.' Rose groaned internally at that moment a very red faced Albus Potter burst through the class room door. It had only been a few hours since Rose had seen him last he couldn't have possibly gotten himself in to anything in between that time, especially without her. "Al?", Rose asked rushing to help the breathless boy into a seat. Albus' face continued to get redder and redder however and slowly he began to laugh.
"Al? AL? ALBUS!?" Rose Screamed.
"Violet.." He choked out.
"Violet?"
"Violet is.." more laughter followed.
"Albus, spit it out."
"Well, shes violet."
Rose looked at him quizzically, "Considering that is her name I fail to see how that is of any importance." "No Rosie, She is-" Albus was cut off by the on coming high-pitched screams of well, a purple girl. Glaring Daggers, Violet Parkinson raised an accusatory purple finger at Rose. "This Was all you," she cried.
"Weasley, you will regret this. Just wait until I tell my mother what you have done. You foul girl."
"Theres one problem there Violet, considering I wasn't even there when you were hexed."
"You….. you set a trap for me."
The class had began to come in but Rose was in such a state of utter anger she could scarcely feel the now protective stance of her cousin beside her. Her hair began to frizz around the gentle curves of her face. Scorpius, who had just come in to see his very purple girlfriend and a very angry Rose Weasley square off , leaned against the doorway. He couldn't help but admire the fiery girl in front of him. Her red hair seemed to react to the her mood, in a way he couldn't help but find attractive. Her pale skin made the red in her lips stand out, and the green/blue of her eyes gleam. 'Since when do I know what Red's eye colour is?' he thought amusedly. He then looked over to his purple girlfriend, he couldn't claim he really cared for the girl, it was more of his mother's choice. Well that was a lie. He did care for her, in a way, he cared enough that he wouldn't wish her injured.
"And why on earth would I set a trap for you Parkinson? Hmm? Pray tell?" Rose battled.
"Who knows, Freckle face, jealousy perhaps?"
"Jealousy?" Rose scoffed. "And what of yours could I ever be jealous of?"
"My looks. My Money."
Violet watched the girl and her obvious apathy towards the list she had spoken. She looked back at her boyfriend whom was watching the red-head intently. She smirked and walked over towards him, "My Boyfriend." Violet said the words, with a laced venom which would have destroyed Voldemort had he been alive. Rose's Face paled further if that was even possible.
"As If I could ever be jealous of you... you vile, loathsome little Bitch." Rose spat as an obvious electricity sparked in the room.
The entire class had gasped at the use of profanity and the feeling in the room. Especially, when they noticed a very normal looking Violet in front of them and an oddly calm looking Rose sitting at a desk again. Albus looked at her, concerned for her. "Rose?" he asked. A clock rung and a very stern looking woman sat at the desk in front of them. Albus gingerly sat down beside his cousin, and noticed the tears that were being fought back in her eyes. Violet, who had sat down and shown no visible reaction to being called a bitch other than a smirk, put a possessive hand on her boyfriend's leg. Albus looked over at Scorpius who was being uncharacteristically quiet. 'Good God,' He thought,'It's not just her who likes someone more than they let on'.
The young Potter didn't know whether to be proud of this growing situation or be very scared of it. All in all he did think they could be good for eachother. Rose needed someone intelligent and infinitely interesting. Scorp also needed someone very intelligent, gorgeous, and someone who could challenge him. Trust me the boy is spoiled. Albus smirked, oh yes they could be very good for eachother, and with that the Weasley in him went to work, he would just have to prank them together. He turned to Rose, when they had been released to make their potion.
"So you really didn't do it?" he whispered to her.
"Obviously not," she snapped at him,"why ever would I care enough to do that. Let alone the fact I was in the Library most of the day, and then came here for class."
"Then who did?"
"I may have had an urge." This voice came from behind the two.
"ROXANNE." The two companions groaned in unison.
"What! I'm sorry. You know how she gets me, and her going on about Uncle Ron being gone to her friends set me off."
"Wait," Rose hissed "How does she know about my dad being gone?"
The silence that was in between the cousins was awkward to say the least, none of the family ever spoke about their uncle being gone. It was a sore spot and it was a wound that was not healing for Rose. It had been a struggle for the family to hide it the way they have been. It had been only the small clan that had known but with Violet knowing or at least speculating that cover had been blown. Rose's breathing had gotten shallow and her steady hands started shaking.
Roxanne cleared her throat when she noticed others in the room starting to look, "We will discuss this in the common room later." Albus nodded and helped Rose finish the potion.
Rose and Albus rose to turn their potion in and were followed by Roxanne and her partner. They hurried out of the class room towards the Gryffindor common room.
Feeling safe at last Rose finally let her walls down and collapsed in the armchair in front of the fire. She cuddled against one of the pillows as her cousins settled around her, including the younger Lily whom had been in the common room when they got their. Lily's elder brother filled her in on the day's misadventures and the problem that had arisen. Lily looked to her lovely older cousin, "But, I don't understand."
"Neither do I Lily. I don't understand how she could even possibly have found out. We've done so well hiding it. Mum has covered all the bases, has made excuses for every event and has filed every piece of paper possible." Rose responded in kind.
Roxanne cleared her throat a bit, "I think I may know how she found out." She looked upset and a bit frightened to her other family members. "I think that our dear friend Violet," she said the word "friend" bitterly, "has had her hand down other pants than just scorps'."
Albus was the first to respond to this news. "WHAT!?" he shouted. His anger being in his friends defense. Scorpius and Al had been bestfriends since they met on the train to Hogwarts first year. The two knowing that they wanted different houses made a pact that day to always be friends no matter which house and had stuck true to that statement.
Rose felt anger too. She may not like Scorpius as a person but, no one deserved to be cheated on especially by someone whom had been with you for over two years and had been a friend for more. She felt almost broken for him. "But," she questioned,"how does that play in to our story?"
Roxanne was not ready for this part of the story, she took a deep breath. "It seems that the hand has wandered in to our dear, sweet Peter's pants…" she trailed off. It felt like forever before her cousin recovered enough to speak. Saying only one phrase when she did so. "I Forgot….."
How could she have forgotten. Rose felt almost ashamed, how could she have forgotten a detail of the day her father went missing. She had been hanging out with Peter at the end of winter holiday, just before the New Year. They had been quietly sharing their past with each other when they heard the door open, and a muffled sob come from the kitchen. Worried Rose and Peter had quietly walked into the kitchen. The sight Rose found their was stained in her mind. Her mother laid sobbing on the ground with only the empty cloak dad had worn to work that morning. Her mother's heartbroken look as she faced her daughter was one Rose would never get out of her mind, Followed by the words, "He's just gone."
Rose snapped out of her reverie. "How could he share that?," she said quietly. For the first time that day, despite all that had happened she cried, and cried.
Albus was at a loss of what to do for his cousin, the girl he thought more of as a sister, the girl he was closer to than his actual biological sister. Standing up, he ran a hand through his black hair and sat on the arm of her chair, he slung an arm over her. Rose slumped into the familiar embrace and sobbed. How had this happened, how had the boy who had never wanted a kiss end up revealing something that could bring more hurt to her family for the very actions he had never pushed? Something was not right here. They couldn't dwell on that for long though because at this time the band of family had to figure out how to keep this news from getting out to anyone else at Hogwarts, and how to dispel the truth as a rumor.
As much as Rose knew she was going to hate this, she knew she needed someone in particular's help. This little Weasley need Malfoy's help, to keep the story at bay in Slytherin and she didn't even know the first way to ask for it.
A week had passed since the incident, and in a letter Rose had explained all that had happened that past week. Her mother was kind and gentle, telling her daughter that she had no way of preventing the indecency of Peter. She smiled at her mother's kind words and also knew her advice ran true. "If you need help, I find the best way to receive it. We have all had to find it in unexpected places this year." Rose thought this rather cryptic at least the last line.
What did her mother mean? Oh well. Rose supposed she was right though, if she and Albus needed Malfoy's help they were going to have to ask.
Rose looked at Albus during dinner, and leaned over and whispered in his ear. Albus nodded and stood up. Sending a glance towards Scorpius as he walked out of the Great Hall. Rose stood and followed Albus, and Scorpius followed a few minutes later. Pulling him into a corner Albus grinned, "Fancy breaking the rules tonight Scorp?" Scorpius smirked, "Is that, my dear friend, even a question?" Rose rolled her eyes at the boy's antics.
"Behind the Quidditch Pitch at Midnight," Rose stated rather dryily.
"If my Lady Red so kindly demands." Scorpius said with a strange glint in his steel eyes.
Rose turned to walk away, "Oh," she said over her shoulder, "Please do try not to get caught Malfoy."
"Oh Red, you do care." He smirked," Have I ever before?"
Rose huffed, "Well see to it that you keep this record, I would hate to see this ruined because of you" With that she disappeared around the corner.
Scorpius looked to his dear friend, "She sure is a spitfire, that cousin of yours mate."
"You don't even know the half of it Scorp." Al responded.
"I would sure like to," the young blonde said softly causing his friend to do this smirking this time. "I'm sure you would," Albus responded and the blonde looked over at him instead of the invisible space that Rose had just stood in. He pinkened slightly but, not much.
"Tonight then," Scorpius said, walking off. Leaving his friend Albus Potter smirking in the hallway.
