The night air was crisp as Rose waited for her cousin and his best friend. What were they going to do, her mom had been searching for clues of Ron's disappearance for months. Nothing ever came up, and it wasn't for lack of knowledge or skill. I mean after all her mother was Hermione Granger-Weasley. Rose wanted to help, but all she could think of to help was simply keeping rumors at bay. 'But maybe…' the young girl thought. That's it, if Violet was so intent on telling the story of her father's disappearance maybe the Parkinson's knew something more about it, or if they didn't maybe another Slytherin had a family who did. Her father's family was hated by almost all of them, even after the war. Less because of the blood purity issue, though that was still a rampant problem in some pureblood household, but because of the sheer rejection that the Weasley's had placed on caring about any pureblood traditions. The Weasley's had seen more than their fair share of families from the house of Slytherin put behind bars during both wars, which also didn't make them popular. I mean not that Rose blamed them on that count, "I suppose it is hard to like someone who took a grandparent or parent away from you.' she thought. 'No matter what they had done.'
The sound of crunching in the leaves around the quidditch pitch startled Rose, she looked up to see Albus and Scorpius approaching. 'Here we go,' she thought, ' Time to tell someone their girlfriend is cheating on them.' She grimaced a little and pulled her cloak further around her as she closed the distance between them.
Scorpius was caught up in his own thoughts while approaching, why in the world with this girl he tormented want his help. Okay sure he didn't actually torment her, just teased unrelentlessly but still. Also, why did he feel the undying need to actually help her. He was a Slytherin through and through. His entire family were of Slytherin. Why did this need to help her come without the need of gaining something in return. He looked around, and then glanced forward. 'Well here we are', he thought as his eyes followed Rose coming close to where he and Albus stood. "Well Red, ya got us here. Now please do tell me why I am standing in the cold on the quidditch pitch. After curfew might I add." His brain scolded him for saying the last bit. The whole world knew Scorpius cared little for following the school rules. Albus switched from standing beside Scorpius to standing beside Rose and gave his friend a compassionate look.
'Oh here it comes,' thought Scorpius. Albus was looking at him with that Gryffindor, bleeding heart look. This was not going to be all fun so it seems.
Albus spoke first, and recounted Scorpius of the tale that Roxanne had told them in the common room. The tale of Violet's exploits and of Ron's disappearance. Rose had stood there silent, only flinching when her cousin brushed over the topic of her father. Scorpius had felt himself anger, his supposed best friend had let him continue to date a girl for over a week knowing she had cheated on him. "Al. How could you?" Scorpius broken tone pierced the air around them. Rose swore she felt her heart aching along side Scorpius'. Albus looked down ashamed, and shuffled his feet back and forth. Rose laid a hand on his shoulder and looked across from her at Scorpius. "Scorpius, please understand he felt trapped between what he should do. Our family is hurting and he felt the best course of action for me was to hold on to the information until we figured out a plan. We do have one Scorpius, but were going to need your help. I… I am not very good at asking for help." She faltered in her speech and looked dead in his eyes. Scorpius felt as though she was reading his soul. "I need a spy." she said. The words rung in his ears.
"What good would a spy do, Rose." He responded.
"I don't know yet, but I think some of the Slytherin families might know information about my dad." She said quickly.
"Oh so here we go again, all Slytherins are bad guys."
"Shut-up Scorpius that's not what I said."
"No, but it's what you are thinking." he spat.
"Oh, so now you know my thoughts-"
"Your daddy is gone so it must be a bad guy's fault-"
"Your such as pain in the ass Scorpius," she seethed.
"At least I'm not still prejudiced," he huffed.
Albus took a step back and surveyed the scene playing out before him, the same electricity fizzled through the air as he felt during potions. He looked at his cousin and best friend a breath apart now, chests heaving in the moonlight as they stared at eachother. He almost wondered if they would kiss but he shook his head to banish the thought.
Rose noticed her proximity to Scorpius as he huffed his final words in the argument. His icy eyes locked on to hers seemed to bore into her and she thought as though they were holding back fear deep inside them. She lowered her head slightly, and bit her lip. Collecting herself, she took a step backwards. "I am not prejudiced," She started slowly, "I just have a feeling." She looked at him again before continuing, "I know not all Slytherin's are the same Scorpius, I would have never asked you for help if on some level I did not trust you. However, my mom is getting nowhere in her search. Your girlfriend thought it a good enough rumor to spread I just thought maybe there was a reason."
Scorpius released a breath he didn't realize he had been holding, she had a point, or maybe she was just point adjacent. He sucked in air and tried to pull back the anger that had been seeping from him. "What is it exactly you need me to do Rose?" he asked, "I'll do it, I'll help." He pinkened at the slow smile that curled across her face. He made her smile, that not something he had ever thought he could do. He saw Albus take a step closer to them both, he hadn't seen his friend move away from them in the first place but he accepted his admittance back into the conversation. They spent the rest of the night coming up with a plan. Scorpius was to take Violet for a date the next Hogsmeade trip and attempt to weasel more information out of her if she had it, and report it back to Rose. The biggest downside to this arrangement is he did not know if he could any longer stand to be in Violet's presence after what he had learned that night. As he meandered down the corridors back to the dungeons, he reminisced over the spark he had seen in Rose's teal eyes. He just couldn't get them out of his head. He tried to shake the feeling of sparks that still followed him after their fight. He shuffled into the dormitory and quietly nestled into his bed. Nothing has changed yet he reminded himself, but he needed to watch his temper around Rose from now on, that was for sure.
