I woke up sweltering, it was so hot, I reached down to throw the covers off but came up with nothing, I tried to roll over, but something was weighing me down. I opened my eyes slowly and then I remembered. I wasn't in my own bed, I wasn't even in my own house. I was in bed with Jacob, I smiled to myself and tried to moved again, I rolled over gently to not disturb him too much. He must still be in pain and I'll be damned he needed his sleep but I was feeling selfish.
I reached out and stroked his cheek gently, his lips pulled a little but the quiet snores continued, "Jacob." I whispered. "My Jacob." I looked down at his battered body, it looked better than it had yesterday, some of the bruises had begun to fade, I reached out and stroked my fingers across his right peck where there was a yellow-ish bruise.
I couldn't help myself and my fingers went lower and followed the lines of his six pack, "Keep doing that and you won't like the reaction." Jacob teased, I hadn't realised that the snoring had stopped, I looked up at him through my eyelashes and he was smiling back at me, he was smiling my smile.
"Sorry," I mumbled.
"It's fine," he sighed squeezing me closer. "I like your wandering hands." He turned his face slightly and kissed the top of head.
"Jacob," I breathed looking up at him. "I should really get home." He grimaced at me.
"Bells, don't go." He squeezed me again.
"I'll be back, I promise. I'll be back so often you'll get fed up with me." He didn't let me go.
"That'll never happen." He chuckled. I squirmed next to him trying to escape his arms. "I'm not letting you go," He chucked squeezing me.
"Jacob," I whined. "Please."
"Nope." He said popping the 'p'. "You owe me."
I looked at him puzzled. "Owe you?" I questioned.
"A good morning kiss." He winked at me.
"Nah uh," I teased."I owe you nothing."
He chuckled against me, pulling me so I was laying on the good side of his chest, "You do," He whispered looking into my eyes. I smiled down at him.
"What for?"
"Remember that time I kissed you and you punched me?"
"I broke my hand, I think you owe me." He smiled MY smile again, and placed his hand on the back of my head pulling me down so he could reach my lips and kissed me softly. I'd never get tired of kissed Jacob.
"Ah hem." Someone cleared their throat behind us, Jacob stiffened and let me go. "Sorry to interrupt," Carlisle said, I blushed and tried to escape Jacobs arms, this time he let me go. I sat up quickly and the room spun.
"Whats up doc?" Jacob asked abruptly. He wasn't happy, wasn't happy at all. He smiled over to be, a smile that said 'I'm sorry' I smiled back gently and hoped that my smile said 'It's okay'
"I'm here to see how you are, and to see if you need any more morphine." Carlisle said politely.
"Morphine would be good," Jacob winced as he moved his left arm.
"Why didn't you say anything?" I asked.
"I'm fine Bells," I looked at him. "Really, I'm fine. It's just a twinge." He smiled at me but I knew he was hiding more.
"I hope you don't mind me saying, but Jacob don't hide the pain. We can't fix you if you wont tell us how you're feeling." Carlisle said.
"I'm fine doc. I'm really good." He grinned at me.
"Jacob," I sighed, pleading with him.
"Okay," He sighed. "I'll take some morphine of you've got some." He looked up at Carlisle.
"Yes, I have." Carlisle set down his bag and started to rummage through.
"I'll be right back," I whispered to Jacob. He pouted at me. "I need a bathroom break and I'll make you some food." He smiled at me sweetly.
"Thanks honey." He blew a kiss across the room and I rolled my eyes at him.
I left Jacobs bedroom and used the bathroom, washing my face and pulling a comb that I had found by the sink through my hair. Then I ventured further down the corridor and into the kitchen where I found Billy sat at the table.
"Good morning Billy." I blushed.
"Good morning Bella," He smiled at me. "I took the liberty of phoning Charlie this morning I hope you don't mind."
"It's fine Billy," I wished I had thought about phoning him first. "Is he worried?"
"No darling, I explained the situation. He knows you'll want to be here for Jacob." I stiffened and Billy must of noticed the worry on my face. "I didn't tell him about the newborns," He explained. "I told him Jake had a bike accident."
"Thank you Billy," I leaned over and kissed his cheek softly. "I know you aren't my biggest fan."
He sighed. "Bella, you're my best friends daughter, you're like a daughter to me. It's not that I don't like you, I just don't like your choices much." He gave me a small smile. "But I',m glad you're here for him right now."
"I'm here to stay Billy," I thought honesty would be the best way forward. If Billy wanted to talk I wanted to talk too. "I love him," I sighed sitting across the table from Billy. "I've just been at a cross road for a while and I didn't know which way to go, but I think I've worked it out." He smiled at me.
"I'm glad Bella, I don't think he could really take it if you did go the other way. You should of seen him those three days when you ran off to rescue him." I grimaced and looked down at my hands on the table. "He didn't phase out until he knew you we're back in Forks and still you. God knows what he would of done if you hadn't of come home. He didn't eat, he wouldn't even talk to one of the boys if they phased. He was a mess."
"I'm sorry Billy."
"It seems like you two need each other more than you realize. He put you back together after they left, those stitches are bound to leave there mark." He smiled at me again. "And you was there for him with all the wolf stuff."
"But I wasn't supposed to be. He went behind Sams back."
"Because he needed you, because he needed some normality. He needed you Bella, he took some stick from Sam for it too, but he took it all in his stride just so you could be there. I've never seen Jacob happier than when he is with you." I couldn't look up from the table, tears we're beginning to well in my eyes, I sniffled and wiped my eyes. "He loves you Bella. With everything he has. I don't mean to upset you honey." He reached across the table and squeezed my hand gently.
I wiped my eyes and looked up at Billy. "I love him too, and I've chosen him. I'm here to stay." Billy smiled at me again, and I wiped my tears away. "Have you eaten yet? I promised Jake some food?"
"Not yet, I could go for food. Don't leave Jacob waiting, he's grouchy when hungry." He chuckled.
"I'll keep that in mind," I laughed. "Thanks for the chat Billy."
"Anytime, I'll be in the front room if you need anything." And he wheeled himself off, I think that's why Charlie and Billy were friends. Neither liked to get to deep and if we did they spoke about it and then removed themselves from the situation, I smiled to myself and got to work making them both something to eat.
I rummaged throught the pantry and the fridge coming up with some eggs and bacon, and a pancake batter mix. Simple breakfast it was. I whipped up some scrambled eggs, bacon and pancakes, I dished some up on two plates leaving Billys on the table. I walked back towards Jakes bedroom but not before popping my head in the front room and letting Billy know where the food was.
I walked into Jacobs room and he smiled at me softly. Carlisle was gone but there was an IV line set up in Jakes arm. "I missed you." He said softly as I perched on the edge of the bed.
"I was gone twenty minutes tops." I laughed.
"So?" He smiled at me reaching out for my free hand and kissing my knuckles. "I'll always miss you."
"Oh don't get cheesy with me," I rolled my eyes. "I made you food."
He smiled at me again. "Thanks Bells. Where's yours?" He asked eyeing the one plate.
"I'm good." I smiled back. "I'll grab something later."
"Bella, eat some of that," He pointed his chin towards the plate in my hand.
"I'm good," I set the plate on my lap and took a spoonful of eggs and brought it to Jacobs lips. "Eat."
"I feel like a toddler." Jacob whined eating the eggs. "You do know I have a good hand right?" I eyed his good hand that was still holding my free hand.
"Okay, I'll go. You can feed yourself. My job here is done see ya later Jacob." I set the plate down and stood up from the bed. "Bye Jake." I murmured.
"Hey! Don't you dare." He reached out and pulled me back onto the bed. "Stay."
I smiled down at him. "But nurse Bella is no longer needed."
"Oh, she's needed. Stay Bella, but I can feed myself."
"Sure, sure." I sat on the edge of the bed again, "But i still need to go home eventually. I need clean clothes."
"Mmhmm, Imagine what everyone will think if you leave in the same clothes you came in from the night before." He winked at me and I slapped the good side of his chest playfully.
"Eat Jacob." I scowled at him.
"Carlisle said the morphine will make me sleep, go home then." He said through a mouthful of pancake, "I won't miss you then." He winked.
"Okay, sounds like a plan."
Jacob reached out for me again, and pulled me closer. "I love you Bella."
