To be honest with you guys, I've never written a romance scene before. I figured this was going to be hard. But then I thought, "Hey, I've been around people I've like liked before, I know how it is."
Come to think of it, that may be why this scene is so awkward and long.
Enjoy!
Riverstar unpacked yet another set of fairy lights from their packaging and tacked them onto the large rolling bulletin board backstage. He wasn't exactly sure why he needed to do this, but Shadowstar told him it would make the 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' scene more romantic.
He heard the shuffling of footsteps and muffled voices, he turned and saw Sandstorm standing there. A few other people stood with her, like a tall man with brown skin, and a bigger man with startling green eyes.
"Who are these people, Sandstorm?" He asked, just then Windstar burst through the curtains from the stage beyond.
"Sandstorm what the hell? Your boyfriend brought like, twenty people along with him!"
Sandstorm smirked, "What can I say? He's charismatic." She turned to Riverstar with a wink, "And the leader of the Thunder After School Program."
Windstar looked to Riverstar, "Well River, you wanna get in on this judging thing?"
Riverstar smiled and set his box of tacks on a nearby shelf and headed over to Windstar. Suddenly, he stopped. He turned his head slightly to face Sandstorm, "You're here to help with the sets, aren't you?"
The rough-around-the-edges girl put a calloused hand on Riverstar's shoulder. "Don't worry, we got this. Shadowstar sent us the directions via text."
"And pictures?"
"And pictures, now get out there and judge!"
With a hearty shove, she sent Riverstar tumbling through the red curtains. He fell on his side and a sharp pain shot up his arm.
"Oh dear," A high-pitched voice rang out from above him, "Are you alright? You look like a drowned river rat."
Riverstar blinked a few times and saw in front of him a pair of worn out black tennis shoes. Above them, black tights, and hanging loosely over them, a black shirt bearing the words, 'Ohana means family, and family means that no one gets left behind, or forgotten,' written in white cursive.
"Yes," he answered slowly. As he got up, he saw the face that the voice belonged to appeared to be trying to muffle her laughter. "I believe I'm quite alright."
"Well, good," the girl folded her arms across her chest and grinned, "I'm Night."
Riverstar narrowed his eyes, "Is that some astrology term I'm not aware of?"
She barked a laugh, and Riverstar felt himself smile. "No, that's my name."
Suddenly, a voice called to him from across the stage. He recognized Windstar's voice.
"Oh, I guess you have to go," Night said, looking past him.
"Uh yeah," the girl turned to walk away, "Mine's Ripp-Riverstar! My name is Riverstar!"
Night grinned but kept walking. Riverstar, still clutching the arm he fell on, walked confidently over to Windstar, a smile stretched across his face.
"Who was that, your guuuuuuurlfrieeeend?" Windstar mocked, enunciating the last word.
"What? No. What?"
"Mkay. Well anyway, we have to get judging. C'mon loverboy."
"She's not my girlfriend," Riverstar whispered, but only to himself.
