Chapter 8: Brother, Sister bonding
It was a Saturday and Kuroko had the day off. No school and no practice, so he thought he could sleep in but he didn't count with Natsumi who jumped on his bed and therefore on him, in the early morning while repeating "Tetsu-nii wake up!" over and over again.
Kuroko glanced up from under his blanket and looked at Natsumi.
"Why are you up so early? And what do you want from me?" Don't get him wrong, Kuroko loves his sister and he would do anything for her but jumping on him this early in the morning annoyed even him.
"Ne, ne, Tetsu-nii, teach me basketball!" Natsumi smiled at Kuroko with anticipation. Kuroko looked startled at Natsumi while he sat up and rubbed his eyes.
"Why do you want to learn basketball, Natsumi-chan?"
Natsumi, who sat crossleged and her head is supported by her hands on his bed, looked at Kuroko.
"Well, Tetsu-nii and Taiga-nii look like they're always having fun playing basketball so I want to learn what makes you so happy, Tetsu-nii."
Kuroko looked at her surprised but gave her a small smile and petted her head. "Sure, let's play basketball."
"Yay~"
"After breakfast."
Natsumi pouted. "Buh~ I wanted to go now."
Kuroko only stood up and went downstairs but not before he said: "Without food you wouldn't have the energy to learn and we would need to go home early. Do you want that?"
Natsumi only shook her head and followed her brother downstairs where their parents already waited with breakfast.
As they got down to get breakfast they saw their mother setting the table. Natsumi, who nearly sprinted past Kuroko, sat besides her father who was nearly falling asleep sitting up. Asami only smiled at her daughter.
"Ara, why the rush?"
Natsumi beamed up at her mother. "Tetsu-nii is teaching me basketball today. I'm really looking forward to it."
Asami smiled at her son. "Oh, that's really nice of you Tetsuya." She patted his head and sat down next to him. "How about you invite Kagami-kun, too?" She looked at her son with a suspicious glint in her eyes. Kazuya who sat on the other side of Asami jabbed her in the ribs with his hand. Asami looked at Kazuya, while he only looked at her with a gaze that said 'Don't you dare interfere.' Asami only looked at her husband innocently.
Kuroko only looked at his mother confused. "Why should I invite Kagami-kun?"
Asami shrugged. "Well you like basketball, he likes basketball and he can teach Natsumi, too. So what would be the harm in that?"
Kuroko looked like he was thinking about it but as he was ready to agree they heard a loud. "NO!" Both of them looked quite shocked at Natsumi and Kazuya only looked knowingly at his daughter. "I want Testu-nii to teach me basketball. I want to learn from him how to play. Not Taiga-nii!" Natsumi looked at the shocked faces of her brother and mother and blushed slightly and looked down. "I-I mean, he can join us after Tetsu-nii teached me and I got better, I don't mind it then but right now I only want to learn from Tetsu-nii."
Kuroko only smiled at Natsumi. "That's alright with me, Natsumi-chan. I'm going to teach you alone how to play." Natsumi brightened up and ran to Kuroko to hug him.
"Not that it would help you with shooting." Mumbled Asami lowly but yelped as a certain someone rammed his elbow into her side. She looked at her husband who smiled at their children and glanced to his wife; luckily it seemed like he was the only one who heard her. She smiled sheepishly at him and gave out a sigh.
After they finished their breakfast and got ready, Kuroko and Natsumi went out the door and to the nearest basketball court.
Asami said her goodbye and wished them fun but stayed leaning in the doorframe. Kazuya came up behind her and sneaked his arms around her waist. "Why do you feel the need to interfere with his friendship?"
Asami only laughed slightly. "Don't you mean RELATIONship?"
Kazuya only burried his head into her shoulder. "You don't even have any proof of that. And to use your own daughter to spy on him is not nice, you can't even be sure what she saw and interpreted would be the truth."
She stroked his head while leaning into him. "Yeah, you're right. But these two are in a relationship and how I would know? Let's just say women´s intuition."
Kazuya groaned while Asami was laughed.
"Yosh, let's get ready."
Kazuya looked at his wife confused. "Ready? Ready for what?"
Asami only grinned mysteriously at her husband. "You will see."
~With Kuroko an Natsumi~
Natsumi was humming while swinging her arm which held onto Kuroko´s own. She was so happy to spend time with her brother and doing something he really enjoys.
Kuroko smiled the whole way, too. Some wouldn't believe it but as his mother asked if he wouldn't invite Kagami-kun to teach Natsumi, for a minute he thought it would be better that Kagami-kun showed her how to play but as Natsumi said she wanted to be taught only by him it made him unbelievingly happy. He may not be as good or talented as Kagami-kun but he's really looking forward to teach Natsumi what he's able to do after so many years of hard training.
After some time they reached a well worn basketball court near their home. Lucky for them no one was there. This court was perfect since the baskets weren't as high as the real ones because these were created for children to play.
Kuroko went to the sidelines to set down the sportsbag he took with him. He took out a basketball and went back to Natsumi who was standing in the middle of the field.
As Kuroko was before Natsumi he bent down to her to be on the same eyelevel and gave Natsumi the basketball. She took it and held it securely in her tiny hands.
"Alright Natsumi-chan, let's begin with dribbling."
"Dribbling?", Natsumi asked tilting her head to the side.
"Mhm~" Kuroko smiled at her. "It kinda means that you let the ball bounce up and down while you lead it with your hand."
Natsumi nodded as if she understood but Kuroko knows that she certainly doesn't know what he is talking about.
"Should I show you?"
Natsumi smiled sheepishly at him and handed him the ball back.
"Just watch me, Natsumi-chan."
Kuroko went a few steps back and began to dribble the ball slowly up and down to show Natsumi how it's done.
Natsumi observed every move Kuroko made and copied his movement without the ball to get a feeling for it.
Kuroko caught the ball again and gave it to Natsumi again.
"Do you wanna try it now?" Natsumi smiled at him and took the ball.
She looked at the ball with full concentration before she let it bounce on the floor. The ball went up again and she tried to push it down again like she saw it Kuroko do it. The first few times went really good and she was so proud of herself that she lost focus on the ball and the ball bounced away from her. She looked at Kuroko with a surprised expression but ran after the ball as she fully realized that the ball wasn't with her anymore.
As she got the ball back she tried it again right were she got the ball. Kuroko would watch her focuse on the task then losing it again because she managed to bounce it over and over, and so he saw her kinda running around the court chasing the basketball. The only thing he could do was smile at her. He really was happy because it seemed like she really had fun doing it.
As Kuroko enjoyed the view he saw too late that Natsumi was hitting the ball with more force than necessary and gave it a slight twist and he was too late to prevent the ball hitting Natsumi in the head.
"NATSUMI-CHAN!" Kuroko ran to her while she kneeled on the floor and holding her forhead.
"Itaii~" Kuroko sat down besides her and lifted her on his lap.
"Natsumi-chan, let me see." Natsumi slowly removed her hands and Kuroko saw a red spot on her forhead and saw a few tears coming out of her eyes.
Kuroko slightly stroke her over her forhead with his thumb. As she winced, he took away his hand and removed the few tears that escaped.
"Do you wanna stop and go home?" Natsumi only furiously shook her head. She wiped with her arms over her eyes and looked at Kuroko with determination.
"I wanna try again. Please, Tetsu-nii, it doesn't hurt one bit. I still want to play." Kuroko smiled down at Natsumi and stood up with her still in his arms. As he was standing he went back to the side where he left their bags and let Natsumi down.
He opened the bag and took out a water bottle, a towel and a band aid. He sat down on the ground and signaled to Natsumi that she should come to him. As she stood before Kuroko he sat her down on his lap, opened the water bottle and wet it a little so he could wipe it over her forehead before putting on the band aid.
After he finished, he gave Natsumi a kiss on the forehead and smiled down at her while she smiled brightly back at him. Kuroko gave Natsumi the water bottle so that she could drink something before she started again with the practice.
Both of them were on the court for about two hours and Natsumi was more steady in her dribbling than before. She managed to dribble and sometimes look up at Kuroko and still keep going. So Kuroko thought that it would be time to teach her to walk while dribbling.
"Alright, Natsumi-chan, you did really great. How about we try to walk while we're dribbling?"
"Really?" Natsumi smiled at Kuroko full of pride. She always liked it when Kuroko praised her and to be praised by Kuroko over his favorite sport made her incredible happy.
As Kuroko showed Natsumi how everything is done, there was a small commotion in a bush near the court.
"Ok, tell me exactly why we are hidding in a bush again?"
"Shhh, don't be so loud or Tetsuya would notice us!"
"Asami, why are we here? It's not like something would happen to them. We could be at home right now and relax."
Asami, who ignored Kazuya, took out her camera and watched her children through the lens.
"And why do you have your camera with you?"
Asami looked at her husband as if she wanted to tell him 'Are you really that stupid?' She gave out a sigh while he raised an eyebrow in question.
"Well, since it seems like you need an explanation for an obvious reason, I'm going to be so kind and tell you. Obviously we're here to take a lot of pictures of the cutest thing that exists on this planet, that are our children. How could I stay home and 'relax' while I would miss such cute scenes like we witnessed before. It's our job to secure this scenes and preserve the memories of our future, the masterpiece we left the world and show everyone how perfect our children are."
Kazuya looked deadpan at Asami.
"A simple I want to stalk and take pictures of my children would have been enough."
Asami laughed at that. "Where would be the fun in that?"
Kazuya could only smile at the antics of his wife and stalk…watch their children with her. His smile got a little wider as he saw how much fun they had while playing basketball.
