AU technically. Kinda angsty.

The sky is a crystalline blue with the sun sitting as the perfect jewel at the apex of the sky. The beach is perfect. The ocean crashes against the sand, a muted tempo in harmony with the hushed whisper of the breeze.

Greg is at her side. He's warm and soft, his breath tickles her skin. Occasionally he'll rouse himself and press gentle kisses into her neck before falling back asleep.

Pearl is off in the distance. She and Amethyst are playing in the sand. Pearl had started off trying to build intricate constructs, but Amethyst would belly-flop on them before she could finish. At first Rose had sat up, already seeing the storm brewing on the horizon. Pearl had begun to fuss, but somehow the argument ends before it can begin. Pearl builds hefty giant lumps and Amethyst tries to tackle them. Pearl and Amethyst's laughter joins the symphony of the summer afternoon.

Garnet is swimming. She'll dip under the water for a long draughts, but then resurface with a wide smile. She'll gather seashells and sprinkle them on Pearl's sand creations. Pearl strings them together, Amethyst eats a few and Garnet introduces two hermit crabs.

Rose watches on happily, drowsily stroking Steven's wrinkly back. He's so small that he fits perfectly in the crevice of her chest. He's warmer than the sun – he's like her own personal sun.

He's everything that she's ever imagined.

He's so little, but he's the center of her universe. She can't put him down. She stares into his little dark eyes. She could stare all long if he didn't need to sleep. She pets his hair (gently because infant's heads are very soft and she is very big). He's got her curls and she finds herself captivated that anything from her makes it in him.

Greg says that he's her baby through and through. Her eyes. Her hair. Her smile. She sees his eyes. His hair. His smile.

A smile she's never really going to get to see.

The world begins to taint pink. The horizon slowly shifts to clouds.

She presses a hard kiss to Steven, holding him tight as he begins to dissipate.

A/N: Sorry this chapter is late and on the short side. I'm in the brunt of finals. I have a lot of stories that are "AU"-ish to this story's canon, but I'm gonna try and post everything in the word doc I have so prepare for AU stories. That means if you have an AU-ish prompt, I'll consider it, but no promises of course.

Once school ends I'll start contacting y'all back if you send me a prompt or review. Thank you for reading and remember send me a prompt before the end of the year! I won't be accepting anything after that cause I want to officially end this story before I start grad school next fall.
