Hey Brother: Part 2

Reese wiped her face clean before walking back up the stairs. She made the turn into the library where Adam was sleeping on the cot and her angelic best friend stood watching him. Bobby wheeled himself in and looked at Reese with a long face.

"How's he doin?" he dared. Reese looked to her feet and sniffled. Cas looked away. Bobby sighed. "How you doin?" Reese still didn't answer. Sam walked behind her and laid a hand on her shoulder. She turned to him and wrapped herself around her adoptive brother. She let out a long ragged sigh. Sam whispered comforting words to her and he rubbed endless circles on her back, trying to sooth her from her sadness. Sam knew what she was going through. Dean was his brother. Sam didn't want him saying yes any less than anyone else. He just needed to be strong for Reese at that moment. Castiel nodded to himself before leaving the room and making his way downstairs to his charge. He wanted to speak to Dean, to let him know the pain and hurt he was causing his loved ones, hoping that that would change his mind.

He leaned against the door of the panic room, calling out Dean's name. When he heard nothing, he moved the slab to peek in. Dean was out of sight so he called his name once more before seeing a broken lamp on the floor. He quickly moved to the lock, opened the giant door and made his way inside. Dean stood behind the empty gun safe, blood covering his hands as he called Castiel's name. He closed the door and an banishing sigil appeared. Dean slapped his bloody hand against it and a blinding white light shined over them. Once Castiel was gone, Dean made his way outside the panic room. He looked up the stairs to make sure no one had heard the spell or Cas's scream. Once he was satisfied, he grabbed a near by jacket and snuck out of the house.

Reese laid on the couch, curled up into Sam's side. Her soft snores let Sam know that she had finally fallen asleep. He noticed that Cas had been gone too long for his liking. He got up slowly and told Bobby he was going to check the panic room. Not five minutes after he had left, he appeared again.

"Where's Cas?" Bobby asked. Sam bit his lip.

"Blown to Oz." He grabbed his jacket, preparing to leave. "Look, I'll get Dean. He couldn't have gone too far. Just watch Adam."

"How? You may have noticed, he's got a slight height advantage."

"Then cuff him to your chair. I don't know, just watch him. And Reese will be here with you." With that, Sam left. With the slamming of the door, Reese was woken. She stretched her legs and arms before sitting up to see no one around. She looked to her left and saw Bobby skimming through books and a still sleeping Adam.

"Where is everyone?" she asked, coming up behind Bobby, placing her small hand on his shoulder.

"Your boyfriend blew Cas to Timbuktu, then left. Sam went to go look for him." Reese stood and looked at him with a blank face. She nodded before turning to grab her jacket. "Where are you goin?" he asked.

"I'm going to help find Dean. He isn't in the right mind to be alone and I'm sure if he's by himself long enough, he'll say yes to Michael for sure."

"I need you to stay here with me to keep an eye on Adam. Sam's a big boy, Reese. He'll be fine." Reese thought for a moment before deciding to stay. Bobby let out the tension in his shoulders. Reese turned and looked at Adam once more. She gave him a once over.

"Well, I'll tell you one thing, anyone with Winchester blood sure do grow up handsome."

"Cool it, young girl. If Dean heard you say that, Michael would be the last thing we need to worry about." Reese chuckled. But her laughter soon stopped when the memory of her and Dean in the panic room. She had left him, he had chosen to hurt her heart in order to keep her safe. She was more angry than heartbroken. And she knew Dean would pay for it. She sighed before letting Bobby know she was going to the bathroom.

She let the cool water from the sink puddle in her hands before splashing it on her face. She looked at herself in the mirror. Even for a twenty-seven year old, she looked and felt a lot older than that. She was the youngest in the trio of hunters. Her and Sam the same age, but he was born first. Dean had just turned thirty. She wondered what other people her age were doing with her lives. Going to college, getting married, having a family or paying taxes. This life was rough, no doubt, but she loved it either way. And now she was stuck in the world of the Winchester's. The hunting life taking a complete one eighty into something she never dreamed about. She splashed her face once more before drying it and making her way back out. But when she tried to open the door, it wouldn't move. The door was jammed shut. She called for Bobby but no answer. "Bobby! The door is stuck!" she threw her shoulder into it before the door finally opened. Bobby sat in front of her, his hand on the chair that was shoved underneath the knob. "What the hell? Did you lock me in the bathroom?"

"That would be the youngest, most stubborn ass Winchester. He's gone." he answered, his head hung low.

"Sam is gonna be so pissed." Just as the words left her lips, the door opened. Sam came running in to see them by the bathroom door.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Your brother locked me in the bathroom and then disappeared. Did you find Dean?" Reese asked.

"No, I lost track of him. What do you mean Adam is gone?"

"Should I say it in spanish?" Bobby said,

"He's gone how?!" Sam ran his hands threw his hair. "What the hell guys?"

"Watch your tone, boy. He locked Reese in the bathroom. She couldn't help if she wanted to. And Adam was right in front of me and he disappeared into thin air." the sound of wings flapping and Castiel's voice rang through the kitchen. They looked over and Castiel is standing in the doorway with a bloody Dean around his shoulders.

"The angels took him."

"What the hell happened to him?" Sam asked. Reese crossed her arms, resisting the urge to go to Dean.

"Me." Cas said before throwing Dean onto the cot beside him.

"What do you mean the angels took Adam? You branded his ribs, didn't you?" Bobby asked, wheeling himself closer.

"Yes. Adam must have tipped them."

"How?" Reese asked, eyeing the angel.

"I don't know. Maybe in a dream."

"Where would they have taken him?" Cas didn't answer to that either.

Dean woke up back in the panic room, his hand cuffed to the bed. He looked up to see Sam sitting on the desk and Reese on the other side of the room, not daring to get any closer.

"How you feeling?" Sam asked. Dean answered with a groan as he sat up.

"Word to the wise. Don't piss off the nerd angels." No answer. No chuckle. "So how's it going?"

"Adam's gone. Angels have him."

"Where?"

"The room where they took you."

"You sure?" Sam nodded.

"Cas did a recon. The place is crawling with mooks. Pretty much a no shot in hell, Hail-Mary kind of thing." Dean nodded.

"So the usual." he didn't dare look at Reese. He knew he wouldn't be able to take the pain plastered on her face. "What are we gonna do?"

"For starters, bringing you with." he got up and went to his brother with a key to unlock his cuffs.

"What?"

"There's too many of them. Reese and I can't do it alone, and you're pretty much the only game in town." he unlocked the cuffs and moved back to the desk.

"Isn't that a bad idea?"

"Don't be a smart ass, Dean." Reese snapped. Dean shut down quickly. He glanced back at his brother.

"Cas and Bobby think so. We're not so sure."

"We'll, they're right. It's either a trap to get me there to make me say yes, or it's not a trap and I'm gonna say yes anyway. And I will. I'll do it. Fair warning."

"No, you won't. When push comes to shove, you'll make the right call. Especially if that one is right behind you, no matter what you say." Sam pointed to the woman standing across the room. Dean finally looked at her. Saw the pain and hurt in her eyes. Even though he had said horrible things to her, she was still there. Still there to make sure he was going to be okay. Making sure Sam and Bobby were okay. She was truly a gift to him. And he had taken her for granted. He looked at his brother again, making a mental note to talk to Reese later.

"You know, if the tables were turned, I'd let you rot in here. Hell, I have let you rot in here."

"Well, I guess I'm not that smart."

"I don't get it, Sam. Why are you doing this?" Wet tears pooled on Reese's eye lids. When they had their heart to hearts, it always pulled strings with her. Even if she was mad at Dean.

"Because. You're still my big brother." Sam smiled sadly before getting up and leaving Reese and Dean alone.

Sam patted her shoulder before walking back up the stairs. Dean stood to his feet as Reese closed the door to the panic room. She took slow, loud steps to him. Dean was the first to speak.

"Reese-" his response was short lived as a firm right hook caught him just below his chin. His upper body rolled with the punch, knowing he deserved it.

"Don't. You don't get to say I'm sorry. You don't get to say anything. You know what you did was wrong, but you still let it come out of your mouth. How much more do you want from me? How much more do I have to do to convince you that I'm not going anywhere!" She punched him again. Dean let her. He knew she had a lot of anger built up in her small body. She needed to get it out, and he was going to let her. "I've been nothing but honest with you from the beginning!" Tear streamed down her face as she threw one more punch. She looked at his face when she was done throwing punches. Another bloody lip and nice black bruise already forming on his jaw. Dean stretched his jaw, shaking his head softly before taking a few steps toward her. Reese let her hands come to her sides, too tired to do anymore. He placed his hands on her arms and looked at her. He bore into the blue oceans of her eyes. Reese kept her eyes on his. Blue meeting green, but looking into his eyes only hurt more.

"I'm so sorry, Reese. But in order to keep you safe, I have to do this."

"No, you don't, Dean. I'm begging you. Please don't do this. Let's just get Adam and we'll figure something out. Please." Her head bowed, her shoulders bobbed with her sobs. Dean pulled her into his chest, wrapping his arms around her. She lifted her arms and held him close. She felt and heard the steady beat of his heart. Hoping and wishing that that wasn't the last time she would hear it. Dean looked up at the ceiling and watched the large fan rotate around before making a decision. He looked back down to Reese and cupped her face in his hands before capturing her lips with his. He could taste the saltiness from her tears mixed with her hot breath. He felt like he hadn't kissed her in ages, her hands tightened around his shirt as his lips moved over hers. Dean broke the kiss and leaned his forehead against hers. He let out a short sigh before releasing her small frame. He had made up his mind, he just hoped it would work.

"Let's go get Adam. Then we can talk." He pecked her lips once more before tangling his fingers with hers. She nodded and they walked back up stairs to form a plan on how to get the youngest Winchester back.

"Are you all ready?" Cas asked, looking at the three hunters before him. Bobby watched as Cas nodded and laid a hand on Sam's shoulder. Dean laid his hand on his brother's other shoulder and grabbed Reese's hand with his other.

"Let's do it." he said quietly. With a quiet flap of wings, they were gone. Bobby sighed and wished them good luck.

Once they landed, they started walking down the path. Dean kept a tight hold on Reese's hand as he looked around.

"Where the hell are we?"

"Van Nuys, California." Cas said.

"Where's the beautiful room?"

"In there." Cas gestured to the warehouse beside them.

"The beautiful room is an abandoned muffler factory in Van Nuys, California?"

"Where did you think it was?" Cas asked.

"I don't know. Jupiter?" Reese smacked his arm. "Okay, a blade of grass? Not Van Nuys."

"Tell me again why you don't just grab Adam and shazam the hell out of there?" Sam asked.

"Because there are at least five angels in there."

"So, you're fast." Reese said, putting her hands on her hips.

"They're faster." Cas reached up and untied his blue tie, tucking it into the pocket of his coat. "I'll clear them out, you three grab the boy. This is our only chance."

"Whoa whoa wait. You're gonna take on five angels?" Dean said, grabbing Cas by his sleeve. Cas turned and looked at him.

"Yes."

"Isn't that suicide?"

"Maybe it is. But then I won't have to watch you fail." Dean shook his head. "Sorry, Dean. I don't have the same faith in you that Sam and Reese does." He pulled out a pocket knife from his coat and unlocked the blade within it.

"What are you gonna do with that?" Reese asked, stepping forward. He looked down at her, a little fear in his eyes.

"I'm going to carve a banishing sigil on my body. It must be in blood."

"Are you sure that's the only way?"

"Yes, Reese." Reese's shoulders dropped as she watched her angel carve the sigil into his body. Not showing any signs of pain, Cas finished the spell and buttoned his shirt back up. He turned around and went to open the door, Reese caught his arm.

"Be careful, Feathers. We'll come for you when we're done." Cas touched her hand with his and nodded. He turned and made his way inside with the three hunters stayed behind to wait.

They could hear the screams of the angels as bright lights shined under the door. They waited for the signal before entering. Dean went first. Reese and Sam followed close behind. Dean ran to Adam and picked him up to take him out.

"Dean it's a trap." he groaned.

"I figured." they took one step before Zachariah was in front of them.

"Did you really think it would be that easy?" he said with a smug smile.

"Did you?" Dean asked as Sam came from behind with an angel blade in hand. Zach flicked his fingers and sent Sam flying backwards. Reese came from the side and cut his cheek.

"Let's not forget the third party here, Zach," she said, his blood dripping from his blade. He stood straight and raised his arm and sent her flying towards Sam. Sam did his best to catch her, but Zach saw it coming before taking Sam down again. Reese hit the wall hard and fell with a hard crack.

"Reese! Sam!" Dean yelled.

"You know what I've learned from this experience, Dean? Patience." He lifted his fingers and closed his hand slightly, causing Adam to fall to his knees, blood spilling from his lips.

"Adam! Let him go, you son of a bitch." Dean said, standing on guard.

" I thought I was downsized for sure. And for us, a firing, pretty damn literal." he chuckled. "But I should've trusted the boss man. It's all playing out like he said. You, me, your hemorrhaging brothers," he began crippling Sam. "Oh, and let's not forget the third party, shall we?" He lifted his other hand and made Reese scream out in pain. Zachariah watched the fear shine in Dean's eyes. "You're finally ready, right?" Dean looked at his brothers and he looked to Reese. All three bleeding and dying. "You know there's no other choice. There's never been another choice."

"Stop it. Stop it right now!" The fear in Dean's voice was apparent.

"In exchange for what?" Dean shook his head.

"Damn it, Zachariah. Stop it, please." he looked at Reese and Sam. "I'll do it."

"Dean, no!" Reese groaned. Sam sat up slightly.

"I'm sorry, what was that?" Zach asked, raising his hand to his ear.

"Okay, yes! The answer is yes." he spat.

"Dean." Sam said, spitting a mouth full of blood,

"Do you hear me?" Dean yelled. "Call Michael down, you bastard." his voice cracked as he looked at Sam and Reese. He couldn't tell if Reese was crying because he had said yes, or the pain she was going through. Sam laid down on his side, defeated and disappointed. He had put all of his faith in his brother, and Dean had proved him wrong.

"How do I know you're not lying?"

"Do I look like I'm lying?" Dean growled. Zach turned around and chanted.

"Zod Ead Re. O voco ah bea rah acke. Nah zod te sah bea" A distant rumble was felt under them. "He's coming." Dean looked at his brother. Then to Reese. And he smiled. Reese looked at his face and knew that Dean had a plan all along. Dean winked at his brother. His eyes burned into Reese's. He nodded to her, kissed his fingers and pointed them to her. The rumbling became louder.

"Of course, I have a few conditions."

"What?" Zach was in shock,

"A few people whose safety you have to guarantee before I say yes." Zachariah pursed his lips.

"Sure, fine. Make a list."

"But most of all, Michael can't have me until he disintegrates you."

"What did you say?"

"I said…" he took a few steps toward him. "Before Michael gets one piece of this sweet ass, he has to turn you into a piece of charcoal." Zachariah laughed.

"Do you really think Michael is gonna go for that?"

"Who's more important to him now? You or me?" Zachariah grabbed Dean by the collar of his jacket and yanked him so they were inches apart.

"You listen to me. You are nothing but a maggot inside a worm's ass. Do you know who I am after I deliver you to Michael?" he growled.

"Expendable."

"Michael is not gonna kill me."

"Maybe not." He slid an angel blade from his sleeve and held it tight. "But I am!" He drove the blade through the bottom of Zachariah's head. His eyes exploding in angelic light as the life was drained from him. He screamed in pain, the power blew Dean backwards. Zach's wings burned into the wall and floor, leaving him dead. A loud ringing sounded through out the room, and a blinding light shined above them. Dean got up and helped Adam to his feet.

"Can you walk?"

"Yeah." he groaned. Dean nodded and ran to his brother to help him to his feet.

"What about you?"

"Yeah, Dean. Reese…" Sam looked down to see Reese unconscious. Dean looked at her small form and bent down to her.

"Oh, Reese." he said to himself as he moved some hair from her face. He picked her up and held her close to him as he helped Sam move the best he could. They stumbled to the door when Dean noticed Adam hadn't moved. "Come on, move it!" As Adam ran behind them, the door shut on Adam.

"No! NO!" Adam beat on the door. "Dean!" Sam fell to his knees to catch Reese as Dean handed her to him. He ran back to the door and grabbed the knob. It sizzled against him, burning his fingers. He went to touch the door to push it in, but it had also burned him.

"Hold on! We'll get you out!" Dean yelled through the door. "Just hold on!" he didn't hear him call back to him. "Adam! Can you hear me!" A moment later, the light and the heat subsided and Dean carefully opened the door to find it empty. And nothing like the room they were just in. Instead of the godly room, he was met with an old filing office, and Adam gone again.

Dean held Reese to his chest as Sam broke into a truck and hot wired it. He drove to his brother and they filed in. Reese laid in Dean's lap as he drove with Sam in the passenger seat, holding on to Reese's legs.

"You think Adam's okay?" Sam asked. Dean stopped running his hand through Reese's hair.

"Doubt it. Cas either. But we'll get them."

"So?"

"So what?" Dean asked, his hand tightening around Reese's shoulder. He wished she would wake up so he wouldn't have to have another painful talk with his brother.

"I saw your eyes. You were totally rocking the yes back there. So, what changed your mind?"

"Honestly, the damnedest thing. I mean, the world's ending, the walls are coming down on us, and I look over at you and all I can think about is: the stupid son of a bitch brought me here." Sam laughed. "And after everything I said to her, Reese still loves me. Don't ask why because I have no idea. I just didn't want to let you two down."

"You didn't. You almost did. But you didn't."

"I owe you and Reese an apology. I'll tell her when she wakes up and I wanna say that to you."

"No man, no you don't." Sam tried to get Dean to stop talking but he knew it was going to happen whether he liked it or not.

"Just let me say this." Sam scoffed. "I don't know if it's being a big brother or what, but, to me, you've always been this snot-nosed kid that I've had to keep on the straight and narrow. I think we both know that's not you anymore. I mean, hell, if you're grown up enough to find faith in me, least I can do is return the favor." Sam looked at his older brother with more love than envy then. "So screw destiny. Right in the face. I say we take the fight to them, do it our way." Sam smiled with confidence.

"Sounds good." Sam smiled once more. "There's just one more fight you have to do before then." he glanced down at the sleeping woman in his brothers lap.

"Oh, I know. I'm not sure if I'm gonna survive that one." Dean wined.

"You will. She loves you, Dean. And you love her." Dean looked at her ,"You both will get other this." Dean looked back at the road, tightening his hold once more, and nodded.

"Yeah. I hope so."
