The next day I got a memo. On my desk early in the morning. A small postcard. It was for my first hosting. The words were written in gold ink on white card paper. Since I would often see Kyoya with a clipboard permanently attached to his forearm. He was obviously the one pulling the strings. The front said that it was to be "Read before class."
We would be dressing up in ancient egyptian clothing. Apparently Tamaki had a love for dressing up. He proposed that we all wear something resembling and reflecting ancient Egypt. I was happy to comply with that. After school I picked up a black Egyptian wig, and outfit that Tamaki had picked out for me. I merely needed to pick it up. Apparently he wanted everybody in costume. I was told to bring a share of decoration to the Club, so I picked up some large statues. They certainly set the mood. When I walked in, Haruhi was dressed in a modest egyptian farmer's outfit.
"An ancient Egyptian farmer?" I grin in an interested glance at the choice.
Haruhi giggled. "I figured since that's where I would be on the Egyptian social pyramid, I might as well. Besides it was either that or be Tamaki's queen." At the thought of Haruhi dressing up like a girl I kept my laughter in. "What's so funny? I wouldn't look too bad as a queen wouldn't you think?" At this I looked confused.
I tried reversing. "Hold up, but you're a boy."
Haruhi pulled me in. "Technically speaking I have two x chromosomes." My face burned so hot I felt it turn red.
"Y-y-yu-you're a girl?" I pulled my wig over my face in embarrassment. "Oh, I'm sorry. I was just assuming that since you were a host and all..." He-or rather should I say-she put a hand on my shoulder to tell me no hard feelings. I attempted to smile through my blush. When I walked in, I saw the twins dressed up as soldiers holding matching spears, and shields. They pointed their spears towards the center of room as I walked by.
"Right this way." The both said at the same time. When I walked by I felt a jab on my buttocks and turned sharply in their direction. They giggled among themselves. Tamaki was not kidding when he said they were mischievous boys of the group. My brow turned stern.
"Take it easy."
Tamaki was in the center of the room on What semed like a golden plated throne. He was in a pharoh's outfit. Seemed fitting that the leader of the club would fit himself within the role of pharaoh. He wore a nemes and held a crook and flail. Your outfit suits you." I said in a gentle tone.
He smiled and waved his crook in my direction. Perhaps his way of thanking me.
"You think so?" A bunch of yellow dress clad girls were already fawning over him.
"You are a vision." I grinned
Apparently I wasn't the only one that thought so. Upon opening the doors, the ladies in yellow mostly went to him. He was the head honcho after all. Everybody was picking up the ladies. They all seemed to have their preferences. I merely sat back, and in no time, a few pointed in my direction. I could hear their whispers.
"It's him."
"Look at the new guy."
I heard he's got white hair!"
"His eyes are red."
Hearing them admire me from afar, I patted the spot next to me. They got super jittery, and practically jogged over. I had to look super confident, but seeing them come my way, getting excited over me? Good grief! Maybe that's why the boys in the Host Club always seemed so self centered. Alright! I could handle this! I merely needed to treat them like I would want to be treated.
The talk among the girls was quite enchanting. I had never been asked so many questions about me. I didn't get any chances to ask about them. They seemed to be more interested in my details. I didn't have any reason not to tell them though.
"So you're an artist? That's so interesting! What artist is your all time favorite?"
"You seem quite passionate when you talk about art! Have you always loved art?"
"Do you have any weird stories about your art?"
I couldn't hold back my laughter. They had so many questions, and so little time to answer them all. I tended to go into detail about my passions, but it was best to keep things short and simple. However when they asked about any particular moments worth remembering, I did tend to get some laughter. They seemed to love my stories.
They clasped their hands together, and swooned. Did the girls have a passion for the artists? I had a great idea to get them to feel happy. "Hmmm" I rubbed my chin. "No, no, no!" I moved forward toward the table. "The roses in this vase are completely off. They are overpowering the vase itself." I pretended to try rearranging the vase. It caught the eye of the girls I was hosting. "In my opinion, this vase is too stuffed." I pulled out five roses, for the five girls. "There now it looks just right." I nod. "But what to do with these... I have an idea." I slipped them all one of the roses, as they squealed in delight.
"Hey, Yuki! Can I request you tomorrow too?"
"Yeah! Me too!"
"Don't forget me!"
When the girls focused on my outfits, one of them asked about ancient Egypt. "So you're really artistic. What is your favorite art from Egypt?"
That got me thinking. I thought about it really hard. "I would have to say their cat statues. I love their statues depicting the cats."
This was going so well. Suddenly I heard something that caught my ear. An almost haunting yet playful voice. It was brief, but I heard it.
"Cats, cats, you love cats you say? You know cats were considered sacred in the ancient times." My attention was turned toward the door. A dark cloaked figured stood in the doorway, then slowly disappeared in an almost teasing fashion. It made me get chills up my spine. That smile almost made me go even paler than I already was.
