Puck ran from his bedroom in his apartment and back out to the living room as he tried to make himself look a little more presentable. He had only gotten back to his apartment ten minutes ago.
"Can you stall your uncles and my mom?" Puck pleaded.
Rachel snorted and gave her cousin a pointed look. She couldn't believe that she had been the one who had been nominated to get him from his apartment. "I've already stalled them enough, Noah," she said as she flipped her hair over her shoulder. "It's not my fault that you decided to party last night and forgot you were supposed to meet us twenty minutes ago."
"I actually had fun last night, unlike you," Puck stated. "I know how to let loose every now and then. It's you sophomore year, Berry. Try and have a good time." But all of the fun from the night before wasn't exactly helping him at the moment. He was more concerned with finding a clean t-shirt to wear out while he was with his family.
He had forgotten that his mother, little sister, and uncles were coming to visit him and Rachel today so that they could take them out to lunch. Puck had spent the previous night partying with the basketball team, celebrating their win, and then he had spent the night with some girl at her apartment. That led to sleeping in and then doing a very fast walk of shame back to his own apartment when he had received a call from his mother.
Rachel rolled her eyes and crossed her arms indignantly over her chest. "Whatever," she muttered. But before she could retort further, the door to the apartment opened and Finn walked in. He had clearly just come in from a run; he was only wearing a pair of basketball shorts, having shed his t-shirt long ago. His pale skin shone with sweat and he was sucking down a water bottle, his headphones still in his ears.
Puck didn't miss the way his little cousin's eyes lit up at the sight of Finn—and he definitely saw how she blatantly checked him out. Well damn. His little cousin had a thing for his best friend.
It was then that Finn looked up and caught sight of Rachel, and he pretty much had the exact same reaction that Rachel had; Finn's eyes lit up, a smile formed on his face, and he checked her out before they locked eyes.
A smirk formed on Puck's face as he watched his cousin and his best friend. It seemed as though Finn returned Rachel's crush. He remembered the showcase at the end of Rachel's freshman year, and how Finn couldn't stop talking about it that entire weekend. A plan began to form in his mind—one that would get Rachel to have some fun and get Finn a girl at the same time.
"Hey, Rach," Finn said, completely ignoring Puck's presence. "I didn't know you were stopping by today."
Rachel smiled brightly at him. "My fathers and my aunt are here to take me and Noah out for lunch. I had to come up and get him, but I had no idea that he wasn't at all ready."
It was then that Finn realized Puck was in the room. Puck smirked at his roommate, who looked surprised by his presence. Oh, Puck was so going to have fun with this. He got to mess with Finn by playing the over-protective older cousin, and he would keep Rachel from nagging on him at the same time.
"Did you even come back last night?" Finn asked. "I know you were with that one girl—"
"Dude, my baby cousin is in the room!" Puck exclaimed. "Not only do I not need her hearing this, but she'll probably run and tell my mom."
Rachel made a scoffing noise. "Please, Noah. I'm not a child. And I'm not going to tell on you like one, either."
"You know what, Rachel? I think you need to get out, or something," Puck repeated. "What do you think, Finn?"
"I think Rachel is fine just the way she is," Finn said. His eyes never left Rachel and he smiled, causing her to blush and smile back. Puck had to stop himself from rolling his eyes at the display. This would be too easy.
"Thanks, Finn," Rachel said sweetly. Before either of the two lovebirds could say anything else, Rachel's phone began to buzz. "It's my papa," she said. "I'm sure they're calling to make sure that Noah actually coming to lunch with us."
Rachel went back out into the hallway to take the call, and Finn watched her leave. Puck stared at Finn with a pointed look until his best friend noticed. Finn realized that he had been caught and did a lame job of trying to cover it up.
"Want to tell me what all that was about?" Puck asked as he gestured between Finn and the direction that Rachel went off to.
Finn's face turned an interesting shade of red. "I wasn't doing anything."
"Yeah right, man," Puck said with a snort. "You were totally checking out my baby cousin. You have a thing for her, don't you?"
"I… um…" Finn looked so distressed by Puck's mini-interrogation that he could only start laughing.
"Relax, Finn. I was just fucking with you. If you want to ask my cousin out, you should."
"Really?" Finn asked.
"Do it," Puck said. "And do it soon, because she's been annoying and I want her off my back."
Finn chuckled. "I'm going to pretend that you didn't tell me to ask your cousin out so I could distract her. I actually really do like her, you know." He gaze drifted back towards the hallway, and he smiled when he saw Rachel laughing at something her father said.
This time, Puck did roll his eyes. "Dude, I've known that you've liked her since we went to her graduation party. You're not really good at hiding stuff like this."
