"Wait. Why are we here again?"
Rachel rolled her eyes and shook her head at Kurt. Really, she didn't understand why his aversion to school-sanctioned sporting events was. "We're here because your brother and my cousin are on the basketball team. We're supporting them!"
"But there are so many..." Kurt trailed off and wrinkled his nose. "…sweaty basketball players around here." One of the aforementioned basketball players ran by Kurt and Rachel. He was so close that he almost clipped Kurt in the arm, and Kurt squeaked and jumped away from the court.
Kurt held his arm out, inspecting the sleeve of his jacket. "Rachel, this jacket is designer! Not to mention that it's made out of suede! Sweat doesn't come out of suede easily!"
Rachel rolled her eyes once again. First of all, the jacket that Kurt was wearing was a rather ugly shade of yellow. If it happened to get ruined by a few stains, Rachel certainly wouldn't mind. Because really, who would wear a yellow suede jacket?
Second of all, Finn didn't protest nearly as much as Kurt was currently doing when he was dragged to Kurt's performances. Since the showcase a few weeks ago, Rachel thought it would be nice to return the favor and see Finn play in a basketball game.
True, Finn hadn't been there to see her perform. But still, he had made it a point to compliment and congratulate her. It was the least she could do.
Plus, Puck was on the basketball team too. It wasn't like she didn't have a reason for watching the game. He was her cousin, after all.
Kurt narrowed his eyes at Rachel when she didn't respond right away. "Oh my God, I know why you insisted we attend this game!"
Without looking Kurt in the eye (because she so knew what he was talking about), Rachel retorted, "I have no idea what you're talking about."
The truth was, Rachel had a huge crush on Finn Hudson. She had one ever since Puck had brought him to her graduation party the year before. And even though she hadn't seen him very often, she knew that her budding feelings for him were still there when she saw him at the spring showcase. Rachel wanted to see a little bit more of him. Hopefully, they would be able to spend some time together after the game-but as a group, of course. The last thing Rachel needed was Puck making fun of her because she had a crush on his best friend.
"Yes, you do." Kurt thrust and accusing finger in Rachel's face. "You have a crush on my brother!"
Thankfully, Rachel was saved from responding when she spotted two open seats close to the home team's bench. "Look, there are some seats!" Rachel latched onto Kurt's arm and propelled him forward. She was pushing him into his seat just as Finn happened to look into the stands while doing his warm up stretches.
Finn saw Kurt first, and the look of surprise was evident on his face. He certainly hadn't expected his little brother to make an appearance at the basketball game. And then his eyes moved to Rachel, and that adorable half smile lit up his face.
Rachel was very aware that her cheeks flushed pink. Even so, she returned his smile and gave him a little wave, which Finn returned. Rachel couldn't believe how giddy she suddenly was, but it also felt pretty good. And not even Kurt's huffing and eye rolling could put a damper on her spirits.
(Of course, Puck noticed the interaction between his best friend and his little cousin. He already had a plan formulating in his mind. Plus, he was going to rag on Finn for having a crush on Rachel as much as he possibly could.)
When the game was over (NYU had won), Kurt and Rachel met up with Finn and Puck on the sidelines of the court. "That was a great game!" Rachel gushed. Even though her statement was intended for both of them, her attention was focused solely on Finn.
Finn shrugged his shoulders modestly, but Puck declared, "Hudson and I are going to lead this team to a championship." He looked knowingly between Finn and Rachel. "We're going to celebrate. Little Berry, why don't you bring Petunia and come hang out with us?"
"I resent that!" Kurt protested shrilly. Puck just smirked but otherwise ignored him, and Finn bit back his laughter. Even so, he looked upon Rachel with expectant eyes, and her stomach swooped.
"You should come," Finn encouraged, and Rachel was nodding her head before he had even finished speaking.
Puck and Kurt exchanged simultaneous looks that were equally knowing, amused, and disgusted. Finn and Rachel were so cute that it almost made them want to throw up.
Just a little flashback to some pre-dating Finn and Rachel. :)
