"So when do you think we're going to get the first phone call?"
Finn laughed out loud at that. Rachel had been pacing back and forth for what seemed like the past hour. It didn't matter how many times Finn tried to get her to sit down. She refused to listen. Rachel kept one hand on the little bump protruding from her stomach and the other on her phone, constantly checking to see if she had any messages.
"It can't be long now," he told his wife. They had been married for nearly twelve years at this point, so Finn knew that it was better just to indulge her dramatic tendencies—especially when she was pregnant.
Rachel shook her head and turned on her heel to walk back across the living room. "I can't believe we did that!" Cutting sharp eyes towards her husband, she added, "I can't believe I talked you into letting me do that!"
Standing up, Finn walked over to his wife and took her hands in both of his. "It's funny, remember? You were all for it half an hour ago. Everything will be fine!"
Rachel immediately relaxed and squeezed her husband's hands. She smiled brightly at him and kissed Finn's lips quickly. "You're right! I'm going to go cook something."
Finn watched Rachel bounce through the dining room and into the kitchen. When Finn heard a thump, he turned to see Ellie trying to come down the stairs. She had only just turned two years old, and the stairs were a little big for her. Finn chuckled when he saw his daughter's diaper-covered bottom coming down the stairs first.
Finn waited at the bottom of the stairs. When Ellie's little feet hit his, she turned and looked up at him with bright eyes. "Daddy!" she squealed.
Finn scooped the little girl up into his arms and tucked her against his shoulder. As she always did when he held her, Ellie looked around with wide eyes. She wasn't used to seeing the world from so high up. She patted Finn's cheek and smiled sweetly at him.
Ellie was a good mixture of Finn and Rachel—she had Finn's coloring and Rachel's smile and curly hair to match Abby's. The poor girl was going to be as pale as Finn, but it seemed like she would be able to dance a little better than he could.
Abby came stomping down the stairs after her little sister and tugged on his pants. "Daddy, I'm hungry!" she announced. She pouted in a way that was patently Rachel Berry. Not wanting to be left out, Ellie matched the pout on her big sister's face.
Finn chuckled and ruffled his daughter's hair. "Dinner will be ready soon, munchkin." Before Finn could bring the kids into the kitchen to see what Rachel was up to, the front door slammed open and Kurt came bustling in.
"FINN HUDSON!" Kurt shrieked. "WHAT IS THIS?"
Kurt brandished something blue in his clenched fist, and Finn had to bite back his laughter. He herded Abby into the kitchen so she couldn't get a good look at what her uncle was holding. With his other hand, he covered Ellie's eyes. She squealed and clapped her hands, thinking that they were trying to play a game with her.
"Kurt, my daughters are here," Finn said mildly.
"THEN WHY DID YOU SEND ME GUMMY PENISES?"
"Because we're having a boy."
Kurt blinked and stared at Finn, the blue gummy now hanging limply from his hand. "What?" he finally asked.
Those gender reveal announcements had been growing more and more popular over the last couple of years. Given that this was their fourth (and most likely last) child, Rachel had given in almost immediately and had found out the gender of their baby. It had only been a week ago when she had decided that she wanted to do the gender reveal announcement.
So Finn had hunkered down with a laptop and his wife, and they spent hours combing through the Internet for cute pictures and little messages. When Finn had a found a website that did custom gummies, however, he couldn't pass it up.
Rachel poked her head out of the kitchen and gave her brother in law a sheepish look. "We're having a boy!" she announced. She put her hand on her stomach and beamed at Kurt, hoping he wouldn't be too frustrated.
Kurt softened a little. "Blaine thought that they were hilarious," he admitted. And then realization dawned, and he gaped at Finn and Rachel. "Wait. How many people did you send these to?"
Finn burst out laughing and Rachel's face turned bright red. "Uh…"
Kurt's questioned was answered when the door to the Hudson abode swung open once again. Puck barreling through the front door while he laughed his ass off. His hands were full of the blue gummies, and he waved them in the air.
Finn had enough presence of mind to usher Abby and Ellie into the kitchen so they couldn't see what the gummies were. When he returned, Puck flung one of the gummies at him. Finn dove for the extras they had and started throwing them back at Puck. Quinn entered the house as well with Beth and their younger daughter, Sophie.
Quinn sighed and shook her head. "Honestly, you boys," she muttered. She guided Beth and Sophie further into the house so they could join Abby and Ellie in kitchen. Abby and Beth were about the same age, as were Ellie and Sophie, so they could at least keep each other occupied while the boys were acting immature.
Finn and Rachel's phones started buzzing at the same time, and Kurt smirked. "It looks like our parents just got your little announcements!"
My cousins did this for their parents as a gender reveal and it was freaking hilarious!
