Making Moves, Part IV

Disclaimer: I don't own anything.

Rachel Hudson was entirely too amused as she watched her husband grumble over their youngest daughter dancing with the adorable, sweet detective they had known for several years now.

"Finn, leave her alone," Rachel admonished as she rubbed his arm. She was perched in his lap, in a way that had become very familiar to them over the thirty-plus years that they had been together. "She's finally happy."

"Rach," Finn stated. Despite Rachel's soothing, he still had that pinched line in between his eyes. He had had it ever since Rachel first met him when he was twenty years old. "She's my baby. Come on."

"He was like this with Abby, too," Puck supplied helpfully. "So, you know."

"I do know," Rachel told her cousin. "And, if I remember correctly, you and Finn almost scared poor Mason off!"

"Oh please," Puck huffed, much like had when they were children. "We were just trying to test him. Obviously, he could handle it, because he's married to Abby now, and they're about to have a baby. You've gotta give Finn the same chance with Nathan!"

Rachel cast a pleading look to Santana, Brittany, Quinn, Kurt, and Blaine. "You guys have got to help me out. Tell Finn and Noah that they have nothing to worry about!"

"You don't have anything to worry about," Blaine spoke up. Rachel shot him a thankful smile, but it disappeared as soon as he continued speaking. "Besides, you know that we'll kick his ass if he hurts Ellie. Plus Scott and Evan and the rest of the boys."

"Blaine!" Rachel shrieked. The loud, high-pitched noise didn't even draw the attention of the dancing couple. Ellie still had her cheek pressed to Nathan's chest, his arms were wrapped securely around her, and they were both wearing blissful smiles. So at least they weren't drawing the young couple's attention. "You're not being any help at all right now!"

Blaine shrugged, looking unapologetic. "What? I'm just saying."

"Curly Q is right, you know," Santana remarked as she took a large gulp of her champagne. "We totally will beat him up if he does anything to hurt Hudson Jr. number three, so you have nothing to worry about. This is what I've been saving the razor blades in my bra for, you know."

Kurt rolled his eyes at that. "It's been over thirty years, and I have yet to see these razor blades," he snit. Santana glared at him and purposefully reached a hand into the neckline of her dress, causing Kurt to let out a wordless shriek and cover his eyes. "Santana Lopez! Don't you dare!"

Santana sniggered, because she had gotten the reaction she wanted. She lived for annoying Kurt as often as she could. Luckily, she had gotten the opportunity many times over the long years that they had been friends.

After indulging in that success, Santana turned her attention back to her best friend and her husband. "Relax, Finnegan," Santana ordered. "Nathan is a good guy." Santana knew this for a fact. She had been a nurse in the ER at Beth Israel for years, and had come across Scott and Nathan while they had been working a case many a time. Whether it had been another cop they were trying to save, or a suspect, or a victim, Nathan had always treated each person with care and respect. Santana respected the man for that alone—not to mention the fact that he had been putting up with the whole Hudson family for several years.

"I know that," Finn grumbled. He trusted Nathan to have his oldest son's back at work, after all. He knew that Nathan O'Neill was a good man, someone to be respected and admired. Still, it was an entirely different matter when his youngest daughter was brought into the mix.

Trying to distract him, Rachel laid a hot, passionate kiss on Finn's lips that had him instantly forgetting about everyone and everything around him. Even after all these years, they still had that chemistry that was near-combustible.

The couple only broke apart when they heard Abby yelling at them to get a room. It had been a long time since Rachel had blushed because someone had caught them being too affectionate with one another. She owned it now, and she did so with a sexy confidence that blew Finn away.

Rachel smiled and brought a tiny hand up to cup Finn's cheek. He smiled down at her and then sought out his youngest daughter. Even though Abby had been yelling at them to get a room moments before, Ellie hadn't lifted her head from Nathan's chest. He seemed just as enthralled with her as she was with him, if the hand he hand he had splayed across the back of her neck and the other had pressed against the small of her back was any indication.

Finn knew that his youngest daughter had been in love with Nathan O'Neill for several years now. There was a fair chance that Nathan had been in love with her for that long. That didn't mean that it would be easy to accept that his little girl would be moving on with the love of her life.

Still, even as Finn watched them, he could see how happy Ellie was. It was in the way she was completely relaxed against Nathan, and how he held her securely to him, as if he would never let her go. His gaze tracked over to Scott and Blaire. Liam had gone to bed hours ago, being taken care of by Carole and Burt. They were dancing off in a secluded corner of the dance floor, with Scott staring down at Blaire's baby bump in awe.

Abby and Mason were dancing too, but they were in the middle of the dance floor. Of course, without even trying, Abby was somehow the center of attention, much like her mother. The party was still going strong, and there were plenty of guests to murmur about how sweet the very pregnant Abby was while she danced with her husband, whom was lovingly cradling her belly.

Evan had somehow conned the daughter of the mayor into dancing with him. He looked like he was having a blast with her, and it seemed like Derek, Kurt and Blaine's son, had convinced the friend of the mayor's daughter to dance with him as well. Todd, Quinn and Puck's only son, was dancing with his longtime boyfriend. The group of the three youngest boys—Evan, Derek, and Todd—had somehow talked their dancing partners into doing some kind of line dance that oddly went along with the slow song that was playing.

All in all, Finn thought that it was a pretty perfect moment.

Unable to help himself, Finn kissed Rachel deeply. He had been married to her for over thirty years at this point, after all, and they had just renewed their vows. He was pretty sure that he deserved it. From the way that Rachel was beaming, Finn was positive that she felt the same way.

"So, Mrs. Hudson," Finn began. He slid Rachel from his lap and put her gently on her feet, before he stood as well. He gallantly offered his hand to her, and she pressed her hand to her mouth as she giggled. It was almost like she was eighteen and he was twenty again as he took her hand in his. "Would you like to dance with me?"

"I would love to, Mr. Hudson," Rachel playfully replied.

Without another word, Finn led Rachel out into the middle of the dance floor, where they were surrounded by their happy children. Life couldn't get much better than this, he was pretty sure.

Full disclosure: I can't remember if I ever officially gave Santana a job before this, so I just decided to make her a nurse. Sorry for any continuity issues. As always, thanks for reading!
