A/N: With Halloween right around the corner I just had to do a Halloween chapter.

Trick or Treat

"Sweetie don't play with that." I say as my son plays with the pumpkin guts on the table. He is smushing it with his small hands.

"But Mommy it feels squishy."

"You're going to make a mess."

"No I won't Mommy." He smiles.

"Yeah Mommy he won't." Finnick says smiling.

"Don't encourage him." I whisper hoping Nick -my son- didn't hear.

It's Halloween today and we are carving pumpkins before Nick goes trick or treating. It will be his first year. He is really excited. I think it just might be to get candy.

"What do you want your pumpkin sweetie?" I ask as he still plays with the pumpkin guts.

"I want it to look like its screaming. Like this." He says and puts his hands to his face and his lips in an 'o'.

"Okay." I say as Finnick wipes pumpkin juice from Nick's face.

"We can do that easily." I say.

He continues to play with the pumpkin guts as I carve the pumpkin.

"Okay sweetie how's this?" I ask.

"Wow! Mommy it's so scary!"

"Do you like it?" Finnick asks.

"Of course I do!" He says excited and slams his hands on the table in excitement. This causes pumpkin guts to fly everywhere. Including on my face.

"I'm sorry Mommy." He says and looks down ashamed.

I take the pumpkin guts off my face and smile.

"It's okay sweetie. You didn't mean it." I say. Nick looks up and smiles.

"So are you excited for later buddy?" Finnick asks.

Nick nods.

"I'm gonna get so much candy!" He shouts.

"You will." Finnick says.

"You can't eat it all at once though." I say.

"Why not Mommy?" He asks disappointed.

"You could get sick sweetie. Then you might hate candy forever."

"I don't want that." He says worried.

"I thought so." I say. "We should get you cleaned up before trick or treat sweetie."

"Okay Mommy." He says annoyed.

"If you don't get cleaned up you can't go trick or treating." Finnick says.

Nick scowls.

"Fine." He says.

"It will be okay sweetie. Besides, after this you can get in your costume." I say.

"Really?" He smiles.

"Really." Finnick says and kisses his cheek.

We go upstairs and wipe off the pumpkin guts to make sure his hands are washed so they are no longer sticky.

"Can I get ready now?" He asks with his doe eyed smile.

"Yes we can get you ready." I say and kiss his forehead.

He's just going as a zombie. Mostly because it is easy but also because I learned a few make up tricks from my stylists. He is a kind man and we still keep in touch. He helped me with this when I told him about Halloween.

I like Halloween but Finnick isn't the biggest fan. He doesn't like the dressing up part. Maybe he thinks it's childish or maybe it just reminds him of the ridiculous costumes tributes had to wear.

"Come here sweetie." I say as I start to put the make up on his face.

He laughs.

"Mommy it tickles."

"Try and stay still." I say. He does for the most part. He is supposed to look dead after all, so it doesn't have to be perfect.

"All done. You can look in the mirror now sweetie."

"Oh boy!" He shouts and runs towards the full length mirror in our bedroom.

"Good job Annie." Finnick says.

"Thanks but-

"Annie no. I don't want to dress up." Finnick says

"We should all match." I say.

"How about I just stay home and give out candy while you-

"My parents are going to do that Finnick. We were going to got out as a family for the first trick or treat."

"I didn't think I would be wearing a silly costume." He mumbles.

I hear Nick come running back in here.

"I look super scary Mommy." He says.

"You sure do." Finnick says. "Now give us a growl." Finnick says.

Nick puts up both of this hands.

"Grrrr." He says and I smile.

"I'm terrified." I say.

"Really!" He says impressed.

"Really." I say and blow him a kiss.

"Now I have to get all scary." I say and do. I like this costume because we can wear pretty much normal clothes.

"Mommy! You look so scary too!" Nick shouts.

"Grrrr." I say and impersonate him. I pick him up and he starts giggling.

"Now you Daddy!" Nick says and points at Finnick.

Finnick sighs.

"What's wrong Daddy? Don't you want to look scary like Mommy and me? Don't you want to help get me candy." Nick says somewhere between confused and sad.

"Yes I will help you get candy." Finnick says with a smile.

"You don't want to look scary?" Nick asks.

"Daddy looks scary enough Nick." I say.

"Oh…" Nick says confused.

"Nick why don't you go downstairs Nana and Pop will be here soon." I say. No way will my parents miss his first Halloween.

"Okay!" He says and scurries downstairs.

"You won't even look all scary for that cute face." I smile and Finnick's lips twitch but he doesn't smile. "What's wrong?" I ask.

"It's kind of hard to take you seriously with all that makeup." He says.

"Finnick what is the big deal with putting a little Halloween makeup on your face?"

"I don't like makeup on my face."

"I know because you're a man." I tease.

"It's not that Annie. I just don't like it…" he pauses. I don't think he knows why.

"Finnick relax. It's okay. But you're still going to come with us right?" I ask. I don't think he will say no.

"Of course." He smiles "Just don't make me wear anything."

I smile.

"Whatever you want."

He leans in to kiss me but I pull back.

"This took twenty minutes Finnick. I can't have you kiss me and mess it up."

He rolls his eyes.

"Fine, but as soon as all that crap is off I'm going to kiss you."

"Okay." I smile.

We head downstairs and see Nick snacking on some candy.

"Nick those are for the trick or treaters." I scold.

"But I am a trick or treater." He says and dramatically takes a bite from the candy bar.

"He is right Annie." Finnick says.

"Fine you can have that candy bar here but after that no more until we come home." I say.

"Alright." He says annoyed.

I hear the doorbell ring and jump. Finnick kisses the top of my head and goes to answer the door.

My Mom and Dad come in.

"Nana! Pop!" Nick says and runs towards him.

"I didn't even recognize you sweetie." My Mom says to Nick.

"It's because I'm super scary!" He says.

"Yes you are." My Dad says.

I show them where the candy is and we set the pumpkin outside.

"Is it time to leave now?" Nick says bouncing up and down.

"Yes it's almost time to leave." Finnick says and ruffles his hair.

"I'm so excited!" Nick shouts.

"Here sweetie." I say and give him his plastic pumpkin bucket.

"Oh boy!" He says.

"Here's some starter candy." My Dad says and drops some candy in his bowl.

"Thanks Pop!" He says.

"Okay let's go." I say.

"I'm so excited!" Nick shouts as we leave the house

"I know sweetie." I say and ruffle his hair

"Remember to say thank you after you get the candy." Finnick says.

"Don't worry Daddy I will." He says.

We stay out until Nick is tired. He has more than enough candy.

"Can you carry me Daddy? I'm tired." He says.

"Oh course." Finnick says. He picks him up and kisses his cheek. Finnick gets some of the makeup on his lips.

"Did you have fun?" Finnick asks. Nick nods into Finnick's chest.

"I got lotsa candy." He whispers.

"Yes you did sweetie." I say and kiss the top of his head.

We get back home and Nick is almost asleep.

I set his candy on the kitchen table.

"How was it?" My Mom asks.

"Fine. He had lots of fun." I say looking at Finnick and Nick. Finnick has gotten Nick to wake up a little. Nick's makeup is a little messed up from rubbing his eyes and leaning on Finnick's shirt.

I walk over towards them.

"I'm sleepy." Nick says.

"It's bedtime then." I say and kiss the top of his head.

"Okay Mommy." He says. Finnick carries him upstairs.

I clean the makeup from his face and place him in bed. He falls asleep quickly. My parents leave shortly after. Then it is just Finnick and myself.

I wipe the makeup off my face and just like he said he would he kisses me.

"That was fun right?" I ask.

"Yes it was. I do like to see him so excited. However that candy. We will have to regulate it."

"I know." I smile and he kisses me.

I hear the stairs creek and see Nick jump down the stairs.

"Where's my candy!" He shouts.

"Over there buddy but-

"But?" Nick interrupts Finnick . Nick sounds confused.

"You can't have candy for breakfast." I say.

"Please please puhhhhleeeeeeaseee!

I didn't get any last night! Just one piece."

Finnick looks at me and smiles.

"Okay." I say and let him pick a candy bar.

"Nick not one of those." I say as he picks one of the full size candy bars.

"But Mommy you said one candy bar." He says confused.

"I know but that's too much chocolate."

"Ugh Mommy." He says annoyed.

"Yeah ugh Mommy."

I look at Finnick angrily he shouldn't encourage this.

"See Daddy agrees with me." Nick smiles.

"Well then maybe you could share with Daddy." I say. I know this wasn't Finnick's intentions but I don't want Nick to eat a full size candy bar for breakfast. I know he will be eating more throughout the day anyways.

"I guess." Nick whispers.

"Okay then." I say and kiss his forehead.

Nick gets up and jumps on his seat.

"Here you go Daddy." Nick says and give Finnick the candy bar.

Finnick splits the candy bar not down the middle. He gives Nick way more than I would've liked.

"This is really yummy." Nick says and smiles.

"I'm glad." I say and give him some orange juice and scrambled eggs.

"Did you have fun last night sweetie?"

Nick nods.

"I wish it could be like that everyday! Dressing up with you and Daddy."

"You liked dressing up?" Finnick asks and Nick nods.

"I liked being with you and Mommy too." He smiles. "But also the candy. Do you know how much candy I would get if this happened everyday! It would probably be like a lifetime!"

"Yes it would." I say. "But that wouldn't make it as good."

He nods.

The rest of the day he does eat candy. He either sneaks some or Finnick gives him some. I don't really like that but I do like how happy Nick is when he talks about how much fun he had.
