Tooth Fairy!

"Mommy! Daddy!" I hear our son shout. He sounds scared.

I hear his small steps. I can tell he is running.

"What is it buddy?" Finnick asks gently.

It looks like Nick is going to cry.

"What's wrong sweetie?" I ask concerned.

"My tooth fell out." He says and holds it out. He sniffles.

I take it from his hand and place it on the table. I pick him up and place him on my lap.

"You're okay sweetie." I say.

"It hurts Mommy." He whispers and hugs me.

I see a little blood.

I rub his back.

"Come here sweetie." I say and get a tissue to clean his face

"Why did it fall out?" He asks worried.

"It's because you're a big boy." Finnick says. "You're going to get big boy teeth now." He smiles and kisses Nick's forehead.

"I'm a big boy?" Nick says with a smile.

"Yes you are." I say.

"But because losing a tooth hurts the tooth fairy comes to make it better." Finnick says with a smile.

"What's a tooth fairy?" Nick asks confused.

"A tooth fairy, is a fairy who comes at night to take your lost tooth. She is a relative of Santa." Finnick says.

"She knows Santa!" Nick says with glee in his eyes.

"That's right." I say.

"She's really lucky then. I want to know Santa." He smiles.

"You'll know Santa one day." Finnick says.

"I can't wait!" He smiles. "But Daddy what does she do?"

"She takes your tooth at night and gives you something in return." Finnick says.

"Why?" He asks confused.

"When she takes your tooth she adds it to her collection. She only keeps the really special ones." I say and kiss the top of his head.

"Oh… what does that have to do with making me feel better?" Nick asks confused.

"She'll give you something in return." Finnick says.

"What is she going to give me!" Nick shouts with glee.

"You'll just have to wait until tomorrow buddy." Finnick says and kisses the top of his head.

"I'm too excited!" He says.

I kiss Nick.

"You're gonna have to wait baby and just like Santa she only does this for good boys and girls."

"I am a good boy… right?" Nick asks worried.

"Of course you are." Finnick says with a smile.

"Mommy! Daddy!" I hear Nick shout as he runs downstairs.

"Don't run sweetie." I say gently. He has fallen down the stairs once.

"Sorry Mommy, but look!" He says and hurries over to Finnick and myself.

He is holding the dollar he got from the tooth fairy and the note I wrote.

"Look what she gave me!"

"Read the note she gave you buddy." Finnick says and kisses his cheek.

"Dear Nick,

Congratulations on loosing your first tooth! I was pleased when I found it under your pillow last night. It will be one of the best in my collection! Not all boys and girls get letters from me but I was just so pleased by how well you are taking care of your teeth! It's teeth like yours that make the best of smiles. You should keep up the good work Nick so I can see you again soon!

Love,

The Tooth Fairy."

"Did you hear that! Everyone doesn't get letters, I must be special!"

"You must. It's because you're taking good care of your teeth." I say and kiss his cheek.

"Oh boy!" Nick says smiling.

"Yes oh boy!" Finnick says and picks him up. He starts giving him butterfly kisses on the cheek.

"Daddy stop." Nick giggles.

Finnick does and smiles.

"I love you Daddy." He says. "Daddy?" Nick asks.

"Yes?" Finnick asks.

"Did the tooth fairy ever give you a letter?" He asks.

"Of course. Why are you asking?" Finnick asks confused.

"Because you have crooked teeth." Nick smiles and I laugh.

Finnick sets Nick down.

"That's because my teeth are so white." He says.

"Oh… Mommy has better teeth than you do." Nick smiles.

"You think so?" I say.

"Mmmh." He nods and picks up the toy next to him. Why he has that in the kitchen is beyond me. However we do have them lying everywhere in the house. He really needs to start putting away his toys.

"Well I'm glad you think so baby." I say and kiss the top of his head.

"I wanna be just like Daddy though." He smiles. Finnick smiles too. I know he wants to hear that especially since Nick always calls for Mommy before Daddy.

"That's great." Finnick says and picks Nick up again.

"I love you Daddy." Nick says and hugs Finnick.

"I love you too buddy." Finnick says.
