Harry nervously trailed behind Remus, twisting the hem of his shirt.
He was getting new clothes! Just for him!
Looking around the shop, Harry spotted a nice purple shirt with a dragon on the front. Glancing around, he went over to the rack and admired the fierce gold dragon with silver spikes and horns. Remus came up to him, smiling.
"You want to try that one on? It looks like it would fit you."
Harry, hope shining in his eyes, nodded quickly. Lupin grabbed the shirt and gestured.
"Find a few more, and we'll see how they look."
It quickly became clear that Harry favored purple, green, red, and bright blue. He liked stripes over spots, and loved almost anything that had an animal on it. The next half house was a quasi fashion show, as Harry delightedly showed off each shirt and pair of pants. Once he had several outfits, they went to find a good jacket and some shoes.
Harry immediately found a hoodie with a wolf on it, with pawprints up and down the sleeves. Lupin could not hide his smile as the little boy tried it on, Harry looking almost as excited as Lupin. After finding two pairs of shoes for Harry, Lupin led him off to a small side store. Harry was so distracted by his new light up sneakers that he didn't realize they had walked into a toy store until Lupin told him to go pick something.
Looking up, his eyes got HUGE. Lupin made a shooing motion, and watched contentedly as Harry wandered around, seriously considering every toy. When he reached the stuffed animals, he stopped, an intense look on his face. He gently ran his hands over a few, trying to make a decision. There were bears and dogs and hippos and snakes, and all sorts of wonderful animals to choose from. Towards the back of the long shelf, something caught his eye. Reaching back, he carefully pulled out the animal. It was a beautiful, fluffy white bird. Harry thought it looked like it was smiling, and he ran his hand over the birds head, before turning to ask Remus what kind of bird it was.
"That's a snowy owl, Harry. Good choice! I'll help you pick out a few more things, and then we'll go find Sev, ok?"
After some thought, Harry and Lupin chose a puzzle with a bunch of dogs, a coloring book and a set of colored pencils, a book of muggle fairy tales, and miniature set of dinosaurs. They paid, and set off to find Snape.
Sorry this chapter was a little shorter. I'm going to be introducing another original character (the other being Petal the house elf), and I'm a little nervous about it because this new character is a sort of memorial to two family members I lost somewhat recently.
