Thorin held her cold hand with his own stiffed fingers. His glance was fixed at her chest, that was whole again. There was not even a scar.

Cold however kept firing upon him, since her chest was not rising. She still didn't breathe. The color hadn't come back to her face and her hand stayed cold.

"Come back, Alys," he whispered.

His throat was swollen by grief and he was glad no one was around. He purposely did not look aside, to the bleeding body of Thranduin. He didn't want to take his eyes from her, although he knew he could better prevent her from seeing her friend that way. But he just couldn't stand up. He couldn't even let go of her fingers.

Thorin's hope had already flown away when her eyes suddenly opened. He was in shock when her bright, purple irises looked into his and a shiver crept down his spine.

"What happened?" she uttered.

Before he could answer, she took her hand out of his and stared accusative at him.

"I was dead. What - what have you done?" She gasped for breath when she noticed Thranduin's dead body. Her eyes filled with tears and her lower lip started to quiver. "What have you done?!"

"He wanted to save you," Thorin whispered. "He gave you his heart."

"And you approved?" she shout out . She crawled backwards, but a wall prevented her from moving away from him.

"This was what he wanted."

She shook her head in despair. "Since when do you listen to what someone else wants? Well? You always do what you want!"

Her screaming tore his heart even more and he did not know what to answer. "He didn't want you to die," he mumbled clumsy.

"That was my choice. Nobody else had the right to make such decisions! Everything is even worse now! Now two lives have ended for my sake! You think I can ever look in the mirror again? You think I can ever enjoy anything, without realizing they can't?"

Thorin was silent.

Alyssae stood upright, staring furiously at him. "Why didn't you stop him?" Although the sentence had started as a whisper, she was screeching now.

"Because I can't live without you," he murmured, although he knew damn well she would never forgive him. "Because I love you."

Alyssae snorted. "You should have offered your own heart, instead of his."

"I tried," he mumbled, "but that was not possible."

She glanced at the Arkenstone, that had fallen from her body now that she was standing. "You think that solves anything? You think you can buy me off?" she snarled.

Thorin stared at the ground. "Of course not. I only want Thranduil's curse to be broken."

"Thranduil's curse?" she hissed. "Your curse is much worse than his!" She swiped her eyes with the back of her hand harshly, but the tears kept coming.

Thorin watched her with slumped shoulders. He had no idea what to say or do. He wanted to turn back time, but there was no such power. With his whole body he wanted to hold her in his arms and when she fell on her knees, screaming and crying, he wrapped his arms around her.

As soon as she felt his touch, she however turned around in wrath. "Don't you dare to come near me ever again, dwarf."

Thorin knew he could do nothing to comfort her, besides going away. He bit on his lip until he tasted blood and walked outside, knowing Bofur or Kili would take his place soon.
