~ Hearts Day ~
Stepping out of the bedroom, Velvet made her way down to breakfast and sat with her team. Walking from the dorms to the cafeteria she passed through the halls of the school. Students were already putting up the red heart banners and throwing glitter on everything.
It was an important day coming up for all existing and would-be couples.
"So what's your plans for Hearts day?" Fox asked the group as Velvet sat down at the table.
"I'm not sure. I do not really have anyone to go with." Yatsu shrugged as he spooned some cereal into his mouth.
"What about that girl from Team FGHT, she seem's into you." Fox grinned with a wink.
Yatsu smiled to himself and shrugged. "I guess…"
"Look's like you just made plans." Fox laughed softly and turned to the girls. "And you guys? Got any nice boys giving you love letters?"
"I'm not really bothered about it." Coco admitted. "I'm probably going to get lots of offers, I usually do but I'm not really bothered."
All velvet could think about was the Yuletide kiss several months ago, the birthday kiss too. It was just a friendly thing, that was all… nothing more.
Then why did she keep thinking about it.
"What about you Velvet?" Coco turned to look at her, shoving a piece of toast in her own mouth.
"I don't know. After what happened last time I'm not too bothered. I've never been into the whole hearts day anyway. Never did it in the past." She admitted.
"Don't worry Velvet, that won't ever happen again." Coco told her firmly as she took a bite out of her toast.
"I know but… it just makes you feel a little… uneasy." She admitted and shrugged. "I'm not bothered anyway."
"You not going to the dance then?" Fox asked.
"Not really. I've got some work to do anyway. Studying and such." Velvet kept her gaze down into her cereal.
"You and studying? You don't need to study. You're top of the class." Yatsu smiled down at her.
"It's all okay, we don't have to go if we don't want to." Coco admitted and winked down at Velvet.
Once breakfast was over, Velvet went to class with her team. It was only half day's class today due to the Hearts day party that night. Velvet sat at her desk in the dorm working through some of the previous lesson's homework.
"Where's Fox and Yatsu?" Coco asked, stepping out with a towel around her waist and over her shoulder, Velvet turned and then quickly put her head back down into her books. Why did Coco have to walk around like that after the shower?
"They went out. Fox said something about meeting a girl and I think Yatsu said he was going shopping but he left his wallet so I think he's going to meet that girl from team FGHT." She pointed to the wallet sat on the bed beside her desk.
"You not going out?" Coco asked, making her way to her dresser and taking out some outfits.
"Not really. I'm not really bothered about it." She shrugged and flicked through the notebook of perfect handwritten notes.
"What about we go together?" Coco asked, turning to put something on the bed next to Velvet. It was the robe Coco had got Velvet for her birthday.
"To…togeth…er?" Velvet stammered and looked at her team leader. "Why… would… we go? To…gether… without… dates?" She stammered, her heart rapidly pounding in her chest.
"Why not? I mean, I'm going to be hounded by people for a dance, I don't want to go with them so having someone with me will keep them off me and it gets you out and away from that desk." Coco told her straight, grinning and winking at Velvet as she placed her sunglasses on her face. "I mean, who'd be a better date than the cutest girl in the school?"
"I'm not cute…" Velvet whispered softly as she looked down at her book.
"Sure you are, I mean, the amount of guys I've been keeping off you means they like you."
"You've been keeping guys away from me?" Velvet looked up quickly.
"Sure I have. Most of them are not the kind of people you should associate with, all bad boys with bad intentions. You deserve only the best Vel." Coco grinned and pulled out an outfit to wear, a rather beautiful brown strapless dress that reached down to her knee's.
"You don't have to do that Coco…" Velvet whispered quietly.
Sure I do. I mean, why wouldn't I. First of all you're my team mate, second you're my friend and third… well… I think it's rather obvious."
"What is rather obvious?"
Coco turned and looked at Velvet before smiling. "Nothing dear. Come on and get ready. We need to show the boys and girls how its really done." Winking at her, she pulled out some more clothes.
Velvet slowly got up and went for a shower, the entire time she thought about what Coco had said, what did she mean by 'it was rather obvious'.
After the shower, Coco braided Velvet's hair, the left and right side braided from her fringe to the back of her head in a matching hanging braid that attached itself to the main braid of her pony tail running down her back. Sticking a few purple and blue flowers into her braid, Coco grinned as she made sure Velvet looked perfect. In her brown traditional Faunus robe, she did look perfect.
Coco wore the beret Velvet had given her and the dress she bought for the occasion. After they had applied makeup, Coco making sure Velvet's cheeks and eyes were accentuated by the makeup with a touch of brown lipstick to each other's lips, they left the dorm.
The party was in full swing, music blasted from the cafeteria turned ball room. Lights and lasers were shinning through the room and everyone was either paired off to chat or dance or were in small clusters at the sides of the ball room trying to work up the courage to ask someone to dance.
"Hey guys, you made it!" Fox waved his hand and ushered the two girls over. Fox was with Yatsu and two others. One was the girl from team FGHT and had her arm wrapped around Yatsu's; she was a short and pretty blonde haired girl who looked innocently small but Velvet had seen her fight and train; she could punch a Grimm bear in the chin and knock it on its arse. The other was a a guy.
Fox and the guy stood together, smiling at each other as they spoke. It was another one of team FGHT's team, in fact the team leader. He was tall and thin with little to no muscle on his bones but as with his other team member, Velvet had seen this guy fight.
"You guys got dates?" Yatsu asked and Coco turned to Velvet.
"Sure have." She took Velvet's hand and raised it up for them to see they were holding each other's hands. Velvet was blushing dark red.
"I thought you would have had people rushing all over you Coco." Yatsu's date smiled. "You too Velvet. I've heard quite a few people are looking for you tonight."
"Oh I do, but I made sure that they know to keep away." Coco laughed. "She's mine tonight." Coco teased, leaving Velvet blushing even more.
"Shall we go get a drink or do you want to go dance?" Coco asked and Velvet whispered something under her breath.
"What's that?" Coco leaned in.
"I can't dance." Velvet admitted. "Let's go get drinks…"
"Dance it is!" Coco stood up straight and the others all nodded and smiled.
"Coco… I said I can't dance." Velvet stopped and pulled Coco's arm slightly.
"Don't worry, I can teach you."
Stepping out into the dance floor, the boys paired off with their dates and Coco, still guiding Velvet by her hand, turned to face the girl. Placing Velvet's hand on her shoulder and placing her other hand on Coco's opposite hip, Coco began to sway them side to side to the music.
"See, it isn't that hard." Coco grinned.
"Coco people are staring." Velvet whispered quietly.
"Of course they are. You're beautiful Velvet, they are jealous."
"I don't like it…" Velvet whispered, looking down.
"It's fine Velvet. Look at me." Coco brought her hand under her chin to lift her eyes. "You're beautiful Velvet, why else would I have asked you to dance with me." She grinned down at her.
The music was dying down and coming to a slow beat. The lights were darkening. A slow dance.
Coco pulled Velvet in closer, her hands around her as they swayed to the music. Velvet looked around at everyone. The towering Yatsu and his tiny date dancing together. Fox and his date dancing together.
She brought her vision back to Coco and blushed.
"Coco… I…" Velvet began but Coco just shook her head.
"Velvet. I really like you, you know that right?" She smiled down at her. "I mean… like really like… like like… you." She laughed softly. "Look at me. I'm stammering like you do." She teased and actually flushed.
"All these months we've been in a team and you've not really noticed. The kiss at Yule? Your birthday? The little hints I've been leaving."
Velvet blushed, her heart was stuck in her throat.
oco leaned forward and lifted Velvet's chin a little more as their brown lipstick covered lips met. Velvet's eyes widened as she stared at the closed eyes of Coco. With a slow moment clicking by; Velvet's eyes closed and she enjoyed the kiss.
It continued forever. Velvet did not know how long they had been kissing but she met the kiss back. She continued to kiss even after Coco pulled back, her eyes closed and her mouth moving.
"Hey Vel." Coco whispered into her ear. Velvet opened her eyes and saw how close Coco was. She could smell her breath, taste her on her lips.
"Y…yes Coco?" She whispered back.
"You're mine."
"What?"
"You're mine Velvet… You and I are together and I'll make sure that nothing ever happens to you." Coco grinned at Velvet's wide eyes.
"I'm… yours?" She whispered back.
"Yes and I'm yours." Coco replied with a wink.
"You're… mine?" Velvet whispered back and smiled softly. "We're dating?" She added.
"Yes. We're going out." She laughed softly. "Now enjoy the dance. You're dancing with the most loved girl in the school and I'm dancing with the cutest girl in the school."
