~ First Date ~

How was she going to do this? She had no idea how she was going to do any of this?

How was she going on a date!

And with her team leader of all people!

A girl!

How can a girl date a girl!

It was… unnatural!

Then why did she like Coco? And not just in the friendly team way, not just in the best friend kind of way. Whenever Coco was in the same room with her, her heart ached, when Coco was looking at her from across the room she felt her breath trap in her throat.

Was this love? It had to be, it was the just like in the books, like in the novels and the fan fictions she read.

It was love. She loved Coco and Coco loved her.

"Vellllveeet?" A voice snapped her out of her thoughts. Quickly turning around, Fox was stood behind her and grinning wide.

"Oh Fox! Sorry, I was thinking…"

"You were thinking about your date tonight right?" He interrupted. Flushing red, Velvet looked away as she bit her lip.

"Don't be shy about it Velvet, she likes you a lot and she's already shown that she will treat you properly." Fox told her as he sat down on the bed next to her.

"I know she will. I'm just… I've never been in a relationship before. I've never even kissed anyone until she kissed me. I mean, she's a girl… I never thought I'd be like this with a girl."

"I was the same, When I was dating girls, I was excited about it all. Then I came to this school and when I hung out with some of the guys from team FGHT, I got to hang out with their leader. Well… you've already heard how our first date went." He laughed softly, Velvet matching his chuckle. Coco had been furious that Fox had not come home that night, comments of "inter-team spying" being thrown around until she met face to face with the team FGHT leader.

One arm wrestle and thirty minutes later and they were best friends.

"Yea. You two make a lovely couple." She admitted, tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear. "I'm just… what if it doesn't work out, what if something goes wrong. She's my team leader and if things go wrong then it is a recipe for disaster."

"It will be fine. You do not have to worry about it going wrong because I know you two, Coco won't let it end up going wrong and you and her will enjoy your time together." Fox stood up and patted her shoulder.

"You better get ready for your date tonight, I'll leave you to it. Me and Yatsu are going to go with some of the other teams for a gaming tournament." Fox laughed softly.

"Aw, no fair. You know I'm better than all the other teams here and you know Coco can beat most of their runners up." Velvet complained.

"Well you have a date to go. Have fun." He laughed and patted her head between her ears. Velvet stared at him, pouting and glaring at him.

"I'll make it up to you." Fox grinned and headed out.

Velvet turned to her cupboard and got out her clothes. Laying them out on the bed, she then went into the bathroom. Coco wouldn't be coming into their room, she was getting ready at another teams room. Showering and drying her hair with her hair dryer, she got herself dressed.

She hated to use it so many times, but it was the only good dress that she had, the one that Coco had bought for her and that she had worn last week for the Heart's day ball.

It took a while but she braided her hair properly, the long hair of her fringe coming back and below her ears and braided back into her hair. She stood in front of the mirror and looked at herself.

"Is this too over the top? I think it's too over the top. She did say dress up, but then I only have one dress… and I've never been to a fancy restaurant before… how am I supposed to know what to wear? What if I spill something on my dress or if I do something stupid… I…" She sighed just as a knock ran out from the door.

Turning to the door, Velvet opened it slowly. "There is my pretty princess." Coco grinned softly.

"Coco!" Velvet gasped and blushed as she took a step backwards. Coco looked amazing, she was not dressed in a dress, which was what Velvet had been expecting; a girl wore a dress to a date right?

No, Coco was wearing a suit. A black, three piece suit with silver accented buttons. Beneath the black suit jacket and waistcoat was a light brown shirt supplemented by a orangy-browny-red tie. She grinned as she turned her head slightly and pushed her beret forward a little.

"You look ready for our date." Coco grinned then raised her finger up. "One last thing." She grinned and stepped forward, taking the distance between the two with a few steps and coming up close to the Faunus. Velvet panicked, it wasn't her fault nor was it Coco's. She was just so nervous around people.

Coco grinned and caught Velvet's chin with her finger and thumb, she brought her other hand up to Velvet's lips and began to apply something. Velvet stared at Coco as she felt something applied to her lips. Once she was done, Velvet brought her lips together and realised it was lipstick. She'd never worn lipstick before.

"There we go. Looking pretty fine." Coco grinned and gave Velvet's lips a quick peck, the brown lipstick from her own lips now on Coco's.

"Coco… you could have just said you'd be putting it on." She groaned and Coco laughed quietly. "But where would the fun be in that?"

"Coco…" Velvet sighed but shook her head. "So, where are we going?"

"That is the surprise." Coco grinned and took Velvet's hand with her own. The pair made their way down through the school and to the shuttle service down to the city. Velvet was silent the entire way, she was nervous. It was her first date.

The shuttle ride was only five minutes as it took off regularly from the school to the city's transport hub. It ran twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week so they were not in worry of missing their shuttle back to the school.

Making their way from the transport hub, Coco led the way with Velvet's hand in her own. She grinned as she walked along the high street. Turning off the main road, they headed down a few alleys that Velvet had never been down, Coco seemed to know where they were going.

"We're here!" She announced and Velvet quickly looked up at the sign. She had never heard of this restaurant but it looked fancy. The exterior of the building was an old style building, seemingly never refurbished from a hundred or even two hundred years ago, maybe even more.

"Hey Velvet, say Coffee!" Coco chirped in and Velvet slowly spoke the words.

"Coffee?" There was a bright flash and she fluttered her eyelids to get back her sight.

"Oh sorry, didn't realise the flash was on." Coco laughed and turned the object in her hand to show Velvet. It was her scroll and she'd taken a selfie of the pair.

Velvet looked confused in the photo, which she didn't like but it was a beautiful photo. Coco had slipped her arm around Velvet's shoulder and leaned in for the picture, tilting her head in the perfect way to show off her eyes, her glasses, her beret and the long strand of multicoloured hair she had along her fringe. The photo also showed off the restaurant and the old architecture; Velvet was impressed, Coco was a very good photographer, even if it was just selfies.

"Here you go." Coco slid her finger across the screen and shot it across to Velvet's scroll. "I'm adding that as my wallpaper until we get all the team in suits. I want that to be our team photo for the end of year shoot. Imagine us all decked out in identical suits! It will be perfect!" Coco laughed and turned to the door.

The pair entered and were met by a waiter, he eyed the pair over and seemed to pause at the sight of Velvet's long ears but turned to Coco as she began to speak.

"Reservation for Miss Adel and Miss Scarlatina."

The waiter checked his book and scribbled a note in the box next to their name. "This way please." Guiding them through the dinning hall, Coco held Velvet's hand to keep her close while she stared at the place. It was as ancient on the inside as it was on the out. Wood beams supported old yet well tended and restored stone walls, ancient paintings of long dead Lords, Kings and Knights. The room was lit by a dull gas lamp network on the walls and high chandeliers hanging from the wood beams of the ceiling. The building itself was four stories tall and they were guided to the third floor.

Walking through the dinning rooms, Velvet's keen sense of smell picked up all the flavours and scents of the foods being served and eaten here. They were intoxicating, even just smelling them seemed to bring images to her mind before seeing the food in person.

Their table was a round table set in the archway of the third floor window, on each of the floors the building had a small V shaped extrusion that hosted a table; surrounded by the windows on either side and back lit by the lamp light; it was the best seat in the house.

On the table sat a name card, 'Reserved' and under the word was their names. 'Miss Coco Adel & Velvet Scarlatina'.

Velvet grinned as she saw it, sitting down at her seat only for it to be pushed under her, tucking her into the table. Looking up, she saw Coco sliding her chair in. "Thank you Coco." Velvet flushed. Turning to play with the name plaque, Velvet grinned wide.

She was in a fancy restaurant! She was on a date!

"So, what you want for drinks? Starters?" Coco asked, leaning forward and taking Velvet's hands from the name card, swapping them with her own hand.

"What is there to chose from? I… I feel like a hobo in a palace." She laughed softly, nervously.

"Don't worry about it. As I keep saying, I am paying for it all because I can and I want everyone to have fun, especially us. I don't like having so much money so I just flourish it out on my friends."

Taking the menu, Velvet began to look down it. She saw the princes and her eyes tried to find the cheapest drink and starter.

"No Velvet." Coco warned as she watched her eyes.

"What?"

"I know what you're doing. This is a date and we're going to have the finest food and drink." She tilted her head in warning and Velvet 'hmfph'ed and went back to looking at the menu. Coco letting a small slip of a smile crease the corner of her lips.

Finally choosing a selection of drinks and starters. Velvet's first choice of the starter course was a plum tomato bruschette with poached egg, a starter involving a piece of grilled bread topped with garlic, olive oil and salt, a tomato and poached egg placed on top. It was usually hard for Velvet to find something fancy and nice for her vegetarian style.

Coco selected a BBQ rib starter, which when it arrived, Velvet was surprised to find Coco using her hands.

"Coco, we're in a fancy restaurant, use your knife and fork." She warned.

"With ribs? How am I supposed to do it with a knife and fork?" She grinned. "It's fine. I got a napkin." She teased and waved the small piece of cloth around before going into her meal. Coco was a clean eater but even she got sauce on her lips. Velvet reached over with her own napkin, which was real cloth, not a paper napkin, and wiped the sauce away from her lips.

"Next time you could lick it off Vel." Coco teased, shooting Velvet's ears up and her face a dark red.

"Coco…" Velvet warned in an embarrassed tone.

For the full starter course, Velvet ordered a Buffalo cauliflower 'wings' with blue cheese dip and a light drizzling of sauce. It almost looked like chicken or other meat but it was cauliflower!

Next she had a grilled melon caprese salad with mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of oregano leaves and rocket. Coco joined in on the vegetarian starter and tried the 'wings' and salad. She seemed to enjoy it and had never tried it before. She was certainly adding this to her list of foods to have.

And onto the first course!

Velvet's first course was a wild rice and mushroom risotto with roast garlic while Coco's was a Sweet and Sour Chicken.

Second course was turmeric and coconut paneer with charred naans for Velvet, adding in a BBQ sauce for an extra kick while Coco's was a BBQ Chicken and Ribs combo with fries and a little bit of salad.

The final course before desert was a shared mushroom dhansak with rice. Cooked with mushrooms and a punchy red chilli, it was enough to serve four but the pair quickly ate it all up.

"I don't think I can eat anymore." Velvet groaned, she was in bliss.

"What about cake?" Coco grinned.

"Cake?" Velvet sat up a little straighter and brought Coco to a giggle.

"A nice chocolate cake, we can split the piece we get and take the rest home for the boys; I'm sure they're going to be jealous we ate all this." Coco added, flicking through the photo's she had taken on her scroll. Velvet had left her camera back at the school but had been too interested in the food to take pictures of it.

"This has been a lovely date Coco. Thank you. It… means a lot." Velvet smiled softly, taking her team leader's hand.

"Hey, I'm not just doing this out of my own heart either Vel, I love you and I care for you a lot." Coco grinned.

"I love you too Coco." Velvet managed to say it, she'd been practising it in the mirror when alone, she wanted it to sound right when it came out, not a stuttering mess.

Leaning over the table, Coco brought her lips to Velvet's ear and whispered her words.

"And we're going to have such passionate sex tonight that you're going to struggle to walk in the morning."

Velvet's ears shot up straighter than Coco had ever seen them, her face was a solid red and it seemed the girl had broken the little bun with her words.

Laughing softly, Coco put her fork into the cake as it arrived and brought the cherry onto to Velvet's slowly moving mouth.

'Was she joking about that? Was she teasing? What did she mean sex tonight? I've never done that! What if I mess up! What if she's joking? What if…' Velvet's mind was full of questions, her mouth moving without her knowing.

Coco just smiled at the girl and tucked into the cake. Once they were done, Coco paid for the meal and took Velvet's hand. "Alright, lets go home." She grinned.

"Y… yea… lets… go home…" Velvet stammered. Coco grinning as she guided the still red and stiff eared bun back to the dorms and their empty room.
