Happy Friday! I hope you guys enjoy your weekend! See you on Sunday! As always, please review, I love reading them!
There's hot breath on my neck. I'm all but sweating from the heat of it. I open my eyes and immediately slam them close with a groan. I feel like I got hit by a truck. My whole body is sore.
The hot breath turns into inquisitive sniffs, which turn into soft whines. I open my eyes to find Jericho all but laying on top of me with how he squeezed himself onto my bed. He raises himself up, not quite standing but making sure no weight is on me.
He whimpers and tentatively licks at my face. I pet him softly, trying to orient myself and calm him as he brushes against my jaw with another whine.
The door to the room opens and in walks Dr. O.
"Jericho, we've talked about this, you need to leave her be." She chastises like it had become the norm. Jer's ears turn back like a chastised pup and his wagging tail stops as he steps carefully off the bed. She meets my gaze and she gives a soft relieved sigh. "You're awake."
"H…" I try to speak but my throat feels so dry. She seems to understand and grabs me a glass of water. I drink it greedily. "How?" I ask.
"Well you certainly didn't make it easy… you began seizing and the only way to protect you was to sedate you. You went into a sort of shock, we almost lost you." She deadpans.
"Huh," I lean back into the pillow and try to think about it. I remember seeing something… what was it? "I suppose that means Alberta knows now." I turn back to face her. She nods. "I'm sorry I made you keep it to yourself for so long but I appreciate it none the less."
"Guardian Petrova will be in soon, she's got a bit she wants to talk to you about."
"I'm sure she will. How long will I be here this time?"
"You've been here a few days already Rose, so if you manage to stay stable I should be able to let you out tomorrow." I nod.
A knock on the door makes us both look up, Alberta walks in and smiles when she sees me awake. I see the tears in her eyes but she seems determined to soldier on.
"You have some explaining to do." She deadpans, I nod.
Once she sits down I start telling her how this all happened. When I'm finished she is covering her mouth with her hand and trying to blink away tears.
"You've been dealing with this by yourself… all this time?"
"Not by myself really, I've had Dr. O and Jericho of course." Said mammal pops his head up and gives a soft howl that only lasts a couple of seconds, as if agreeing with me.
She comes to my side and pulls me tightly into her arms.
"I'm so sorry Rose." She murmurs. I nod and pat her back in an attempt to be comforting.
"So when can I get back to work?" I ask. She pulls back and frowns at me.
"Rosemarie." She chastises, I smile at her and shrug. "You need to keep your strength and rest." My smile falls.
"But.."
"No buts. You're taking a week at the very least and we'll discuss your duties when you're back. I will not budge on this." I close my mouth from the bubbling argument. I have an idea.
"Fine, I'll take the week, but, I want to go into town, just for a couple of days! I think some proper R&R will do me plenty of good." I bargain. Berta looks to Olendzki and she shrugs.
"We're going to have to up your medicine and I'm writing a new prescription to help with the headaches that'll hopefully stop any future seizures, give it a day or two but other than that, I don't see why not." I grin widely before turning pleading eyes on Berta, she sighs and nods.
"Alright. I'll see what I can set up." I cheer. "But you need to follow every direction, and there will be daily check ins, understood?" I nod.
"Thank you, Guardian Petrova." I smile.
"After the heart attack you almost gave me, call me Alberta." I smile and nod.
"Yes ma'am."
Both women leave me to the quiet and I turn my attention to Jericho who had taken it upon himself to spread out on the small couch.
"You were worried, weren't you?" He peeks over at me, giving me a look before closing his eyes for a nap. I chuckle. "Love you too buddy," I decide sleep doesn't seem like a bad idea.
I close my eyes and immediately fall into a peaceful sleep.
