The duels between Kaiba and Theresa and Lance and Joey were raging on but what off the duel between Chloe and Yami Yugi? Well at the future site of her family's business the two duelists activated their duel disks and drew their opening hands.
"If you had told me that I'd be dueling Yugi several months ago, I would've called you crazy." Chloe thought as she looked over her hand. "At least I have a decent hand, even so, Kaiba said that this is set during Battle City, I wonder if that applies to the rules and ban-lists." Chloe thought before she glanced up at her opponent. "You want to go first?"
"I will be happy too." Yami responded before drawing his card confirming what Chloe had thought in the process. "I set two cards facedown and I summon Beta, the Magnet Warrior!" Yami announced as he played the three cards and the small warrior with magnets attached to its hands and head appeared on the field (4/1700/1600). "It's your move." Yami announced and Chloe nodded before she drew her card and looked over the field.
"Beta, the Magnet Warrior, shouldn't be too tough to beat, right? I mean the only danger that thing possesses is if Yugi manages to get Valkyrion out." Chloe thought before looking over her hand. "Hate to sound like a broken record but I'm setting two cards facedown as well." Chloe said with a slight laugh as her two cards appeared on the field. "And I summon Gemini Elf!" Chloe announced as she placed the card down and the twin elves appeared on the field ready for battle (4/1900/900). "Attack Beta, the Magnet Warrior!" Chloe commanded, and the twins prepared their magic blasts.
"Ever heard of "look before you leap"? I activate my trap card Magical Cylinder!" Yami announced as his trap card flipped up and Chloe's eyes widened as the blast was redirected back at her reducing her life-points down to 6100.
"Man, I just fell for the same trick I fell for in my test duel only without Rush Recklessly! Have I really improved as much as I thought I have?" Chloe thought as she lowered her head, something that didn't go unnoticed by Yami or his companions.
"Something wrong Chloe?" Yami asked and Chloe shook her head.
"Real talk? I've only been dueling for under a year." Chloe admitted as she rubbed her scarred arm nervously. "In fact, this is my first tournament! Just my luck that I end up against you." Chloe added and Yami nodded in understanding.
"Don't worry about it, we were all amateurs at one point." Yami assured her and Chloe grinned in response. "You'll do fine."
"And if all else fails, just believe in the power of friendship." Tea chimed in and the others sweat-dropped in response. "I mean come on, you've got to have some friends competing with you."
"I do actually." Chloe responded with a slight blush. "My boyfriend Lance, we got into the game at around the same time, don't know where he is though."
"I'm sure wherever he is, he's giving you the support you need." Yugi's grandpa assured her and Chloe grinned at that. "Don't you have a move to finish, young lady?"
"Right, over to you Yugi." Chloe responded and Yami nodded before drawing his card. "Doesn't feel right lying about Lance's experience level, in reality he had been dueling for two years when we first met, still it's easier to explain than the truth I guess."
"I tribute Beta, the Magnet Warrior to summon Berfomet!" Yami announced breaking Chloe's train of thought as she looked up to see Beta disappear from the field only to be replaced by a large, winged demon (6/1400/1800). "This activates his effect, allowing me to search my deck for Gazelle, the King of Mythical Beasts and add it to my hand." Yami added before he picked up his deck, whilst Yugi's attention was off her Chloe couldn't help but chuckle under her breath.
"Ahh, the early days of Duel Monsters when I2 could get away with releasing a Level 6 Monster with 1400 attack points who's effect basically allowed it to search for a Level 4 monster that could attack over it." Chloe thought as Yugi added the card to his hand. "Still, I think it's safe to assume that he's going to fusion summon Chimera, the Flying Mythical Beast, can't really think of any other reason why you'd bring that card out."
"Now I activate Polymerization, fusion Gazelle and Berfomet together to summon Chimera, the Flying Mythical Beast!" Yami announced confirming Chloe's suspicions as Gazelle appeared next to Berfomet before the two monsters were sucked into the fusion portal and from it emerged the large, two headed beast with wings (6/2100/1800). "You don't have to worry about this monster attacking you just yet Chloe, Battle City Rules state that fusion monsters can't attack the same turn they are summoned."
"Huh, I had almost forgotten about that rule entirely." Chloe thought as she stared down the monster. "Doesn't help that I2 abolished that rule almost as quickly as the original Battle City ended but still! At least my life-points are safe."
"Or are they? I activate Quick Attack! Now my Chimera can attack your elves!" Yami added as he played the card and the Chimera let out a roar. "Chimera, attack Gemini Elf now!" Yami commanded and the beast pounced towards the elves.
"Not so fast Yugi! I activate Magical Dimension! Since I control a Spellcaster type monster I can tribute it to Special Summon one Spellcaster from my hand." Chloe responded before looking at her hand. "Huh, this is not a situation I ever thought I'd find myself in, well, no time like the present!" Chloe thought before she picked up a card from her hand. "So, I tribute my Elves to summon an even stronger Spellcaster, one you should be familiar with!" Chloe added as the elves disappeared from the field and, much to the shock of Yugi, Tea and his grandpa, the Dark Magician appeared in their place (7/2500/2100). "I'm going to assume that you're not going to attack?"
"I'm not foolish enough to throw away my own monster." Yami responded with a nod as Chimera backed down. "Even so, how did you get your hands on a Dark Magician card?"
"Would you believe I got ridiculously lucky when opening my first booster pack?" Chloe asked with a sheepish grin as she rubbed the back of her head nervously. "Though to be fair, that's not far from the truth, at least as far as how I got my hands on Silent Magician and her support cards in real life." Chloe thought before grinning. "Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Magical Dimension has another effect! When I Special Summon a monster this way, I can destroy one monster you control!"
"Oh no!" Yami yelled out as a blast hit Chimera destroying it. "Chimera has an effect of his own, when he is destroyed, I can target either of the monsters used to summon him and Special Summon it to the field, I chose Gazelle!" Yami explained as the horned beast appeared on the field (4/1500/1200). "It's your move Chloe!"
"I don't know what's crazier, the fact that I'm doing well, the fact that I'm using Dark Magician against the duelist who made the card famous." Chloe thought as she drew her card. "Or the fact that I've just seen someone use Quick Attack! That card is so rare because I2 abolished the rule about Fusion Monsters that only a few exist in the world and a copy could pay for my parent's house five times over!" Chloe thought before she looked at her drawn card. "I activate Heaven's Lost Property! Now we'll both draw three cards and discard two."
"Fine by me." Yami nodded before they drew their cards, Chloe was quick to make her choice as she sent two cards to the graveyard and Yami took a few minutes to decide before discarding two.
"And speaking of rarities, I guess this confirms that we're playing under the Battle City ban-list." Chloe thought before playing the card. "I activate Pot of Greed! I would explain the effect but I'm pretty sure you know it, what with being the King of Games and all!"
"Yes, it allows you to draw two cards from your deck." Yami responded with a nod before Chloe drew her two cards.
"Well, it's a longshot as to whether Yugi has heard of Synchro Summons but this would give me some serious card advantage!" Chloe thought before playing a card. "First I summon Magical Exemplar!" Chloe announced as she played the card and the green haired sorceress appeared on the field (4/1700/1400). "Next I activate Foolish Burial! This will send one monster from my deck straight to the graveyard." Chloe explained as she played the card before sending the monster to her graveyard. "Since I activated a Spell Card this activates Magical Exemplar's effect, giving her two Spell Counters." Chloe added as the two green orbs appeared around Magical Exemplar.
"I see." Yami responded with a nod as he glanced at Magical Exemplar. "And what do you plan to do with them?"
"I'll show you! I give up both of her Spell Counters to activate the second half of Exemplar's effect! This allows me to Special Summon one monster from my graveyard whose level matches the number of Spell Counters I'm giving up, so I use my two Spell Counters to Special Summon Clear Effector!" Chloe announced as she played the card and the long haired spell caster appeared on the field (2/0/800) and when he saw the monster's stats Yami couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
"Zero attack points?" Yami asked before glancing up at Chloe. "What are you planning Chloe?"
"I could tell you, or I could just go by the old "show don't tell" philosophy." Chloe responded before her facedown card flipped up. "I activate Limit Reverse, this allows me to Special Summon one monster with one thousand or less attack points from my graveyard, I chose Sunny Pixie!" Chloe added before she played the card a small winged girl with pink hair wearing a yellow and pink jumpsuit appeared on the field (1/300/400).
"Two weak monsters, what is she up too?" Tea asked as she scratched her head. "I don't play the game much but even I'm confused by this."
"Which makes the fact that she ended up marrying Yugi all the more ironic, but I digress." Chloe thought as a sweat-drop rolled down the back of her head. "It's a longshot, even for the king of games, but are you familiar with Synchro Monsters?" Chloe asked and when she saw the confused look on Yugi, Tea and Yugi's grandpa's faces she sighed. "Yeah, thought so, may as well give you a crash course than! I tune my level one tuner Sunny Pixie with Clear Effector and Magical Exemplar!" Chloe announced as her three monsters leapt into the air. "I Synchro Summon Arcanite Magician!" Chloe announced as she played the card and the magician in white robes appeared on the field ready for battle (7/400/1400).
"All that for a Level 7 monster with 400 attack points?" Yami asked with a raised eyebrow and Chloe nodded. "He must have a powerful effect."
"He does but I have two effects to resolve first." Chloe responded before holding up Clear Effector and Sunny Pixie. "First, since I sent her to the graveyard for a Synchro Summon Clear Effector lets me draw a card." Chloe added before drawing a card. "Next, as Sunny Pixie was used to Synchro Summon a Light Type Synchro Monster, she gives me a thousand life-points back." Chloe added as her life-points went up to 7100. "And now the big guy, when Arcanite Magician is Synchro Summoned he gains two counters and a thousand attack points for each." Chloe explained as Arcanite Magician's attack went up to 2400. "But I can give up a counter to destroy one card on the field, say goodbye to your other facedown card Yugi!"
"Oh no!" Yami yelled out as Arcanite Magician's attack dropped to 1400 and he pointed his staff at Yami's facedown card destroying it. "So much for Lightforce Sword."
"I was hoping to use it on something more lethal, but I'll take it." Chloe thought before pointing to Gazelle. "I can't believe I'm about to do this but Dark Magician, attack Yugi Motoh's monster! Dark Magic Attack!" Chloe commanded, and the magician held out his outstretched hand casting a spell that destroyed Gazelle. "Arcanite Magician, attack his life-points directly!" Chloe commanded, and the magician pointed his staff at Yami….
"I discard Kuriboh from my hand to negate the damage." Yami responded as he discarded the card and the blast was stopped by a wall of Kuribohs.
"Yeah, I had a feeling that was too easy." Chloe admitted with a nervous laugh. "I set two cards facedown and end my turn." Chloe announced and Yami drew his card.
"For a rookie, she is very good, but I have more tricks up my sleeve than she thinks." Yami thought before Yugi's transparent form appeared alongside him.
"Hey Yami, maybe I should take over?" Yugi offered and Yami glanced at him. "I mean, she's obviously not a Rare Hunter and she is a rookie."
"A rookie who has managed to hold her own, I appreciate the thought Yugi, but she will be able to handle herself." Yami thought before playing a card. "I activate Graceful Charity! Now I draw three cards and discard one." Yami announced as he played the card and drew three cards before discarding one. "It seems we will have a clash of Dark Magicians! I activate Dark Magic Curtain! By paying half my life-points I can summon my own Dark Magician from my deck!"
"Oh my god, is this actually happening?!" Chloe thought as Yugi's most famous monster appeared on the field ready for battle as Yami's life-points dropped to 4000. "The duelist in me is trying to stay calm, the Yugi fangirl in me may as well be a teenage girl at a Justin Bieber concert!" Chloe thought before facepalming. "And I was so caught up in the moment that I completely forgot about Bottomless Trap Hole! If I had activated it, I could've won the duel on my next turn."
"Something wrong Chloe?" Yami asked and Chloe glanced up before shaking her head.
"It's nothing, I just messed up." Chloe responded with an annoyed sigh. "Anything else you want to do?"
"Just one thing, Dark Magician, attack Arcanite Magician, Dark Magic Attack!" Yami commanded and the magician prepared his famous attack….
"I activate Negate Attack!" Chloe responded as the attack bounced off the invisible force-field negating the attack. "Meaning you cut your life-points in half for nothing."
"Maybe but if you intend to destroy Dark Magician, you'll have to weaken your Arcanite Magician further." Yami responded before looking at his hand. "I set two cards facedown and I end my turn." Yami added as he set the card and Chloe drew her card.
"Okay, if I want to beat Yami I need to destroy his Dark Magician, seriously, the only thing that could top this is meeting the man himself in real life." Chloe thought before looking at her drawn card. "Perfect!" Chloe thought pointing to her magician. "I remove the last Spell Counter from Arcanite Magician to destroy your Dark Magician!" Chloe announced as Arcanite Magician's attack dropped to 400 and Arcanite Magician pointed to Dark Magician….
"I discard Effect Veilor from my hand to negate Arcanite Magician's effect." Yami responded as he discarded the card and Arcanite Magician doubled over whilst a bemused Chloe watched on. "Nice try Chloe but I'm not giving up the fight that easy!"
"So, he doesn't know about Synchro Summons, yet he has a Tuner Monster in his deck?" Chloe thought as Yami sent his monster to the graveyard. "I guess that was one of Kaiba's improvements, well I'd better end this before he brings something else out!" Chloe thought before playing a card. "I activate Miracle Synchro Fusion! With this Spell Card I fuse Arcanite Magician with Magical Exemplar from my graveyard to Fusion Summon Supreme Arcanite Magician!" Chloe added as she played a card and Magical Exemplar returned to the field briefly before fusing together to make Supreme Arcanite Magician as he appeared on the field (10/1400/2800). "He shares the regular Arcanite Magician's effect, so his attack goes up to 3400!"
"But because of the Battle City Rules, he can't attack." Yami pointed out and Chloe frowned in response as Supreme Arcanite Magician's attack went up to 3400. "He's powerful yes, but power isn't everything."
"Maybe, but I can still use his effect!" Chloe responded as Supreme Arcanite Magician's attack dropped to 2400 and he pointed his staff at Dark Magician…...
"I activate my Quick Play Spell Card Magical Hats! Conceal the Dark Magician!" Yami responded catching Chloe off guard as five hats appeared on the field with out concealing Dark Magician, he got shuffled around a bit before the hats stopped. "Make your choice Chloe!"
"Five hats, I could destroy two of them through Supreme Arcanite Magician's attack alone but that would leave it a sitting duck for….well, anything with more than fourteen hundred attack points really." Chloe thought with a frown. "Supreme Arcanite, use your effect on the card on the far right!" Chloe commanded, and the magician pointed his staff at the hat destroying it, however the hat ended up empty much to Chloe's annoyance. "Well, that narrows things down at least."
"Indeed." Yami responded with a nod before smirking. "Want to try again with Supreme Arcanite's effect?"
"I didn't go to all that trouble just to have my Level 10 Monster be destroyed by a Level Four Monster." Chloe responded as she shook her head. "Dark Magician, attack the hat in the middle!" Chloe commanded, and magician's attacks hit, however when Chloe saw the result of her attack her jaw practically dropped to the floor. "No way!"
"A tie between our Dark Magicians!" Yami echoed her sentiments as his Dark Magician emerged from the hat and both Magicians launched their attacks at each other destroying them both. "Can't say I ever expected or experienced that that."
"Based on that, this is probably set before his duel against Arkana." Chloe thought with a frown on her face. "The Rare Hunters were scumbags by and large but most of them, namely the ones Yugi faced, ended up institutionalized for the rest of their lives due to having their minds taken over by Marik, can't help but feel a bit sorry for them but I have a duel to win." Chloe thought before glancing up at Yugi. "My Dark Magician may be gone but he's far from the only trick up my sleeve!"
"I look forward to seeing your other tricks." Yami nodded in response and Chloe grinned in response. "Anything else?"
"I set one card facedown and end my turn." Chloe responded as she set the card and Yugi drew his card. "Best bet is either Silent Magician or Silent Magician Level 8, I could summon Colossal Fighter as well, but I don't have the cards I need."
"I activate Monster Reborn, I use this to bring back Gazelle!" Yami announced as he played the card and Gazelle returned to the field. "Now I tribute Gazelle to summon Dark Magician Girl!"
"Well, there goes my theory on this being before the duel against Arkana." Chloe thought as Gazelle disappeared from the field only to be replaced by the young, female sorceress (6/2000/1700). "Or maybe Dark Magician Girl was part of the upgrades Kaiba mentioned, or maybe I'm overthinking it, either way I can't let her stay on the field!" Chloe thought before she activated her trap. "I don't think so Yugi! I activate Bottomless Trap Hole to remove Dark Magician Girl from play!" Chloe responded before the pit opened bellow Dark Magician Girl.
"Not bad, but not good enough! I activate my facedown card Seven Tools of the Bandit! Now I pay one thousand life-points to negate your trap card!" Yami responded before the pit closed again whilst his life-points dropped to 3000. "Now, since we have a Dark Magician each in our graveyards Dark Magician Girl gains six hundred attack points." Yami added as Dark Magician Girl's attack points went up to 2600. "Dark Magician Girl attack Supreme Arcanite Magician! Dark Burning Attack!" Yami commanded and the Magician pointed her staff at Supreme Arcanite Magician before firing a beam of light at him destroying him and bringing Chloe's life-points down to 6900.
"You still have a long way to go before our life-point totals are even remotely close Yugi." Chloe responded as Dark Magician Girl landed in front of her master. "And I'll beat you before we get to that point!"
"We shall see about that! I set one card facedown." Yami announced as the facedown card appeared behind Dark Magician Girl. "It's your move." Yami responded and Chloe drew her card.
"Level Up, all that's missing is Silent Magician Level 4 and this duel will be mine for the taking." Chloe thought as she looked at her drawn card. "But I can play it safe until then." Chloe thought before picking up two cards. "I set a monster in defense mode and I activate Arcane Barrier!" Chloe announced as her two cards appeared on the field. "Each time you destroy one of my Spellcasters this Spell Card will gain a Spell Counter with a maximum limit of four, the other part of its effect is that I can tribute it alongside a Spellcaster Type Monster and draw one card for each Spell Counter on Arcane Barrier."
"So potentially you can draw four cards from that?" Yami asked and Chloe nodded in response. "Clever but that sounds like a good way to deck out."
"Sadly, that has happened before but that's a long story." Chloe responded before nodding at Yami. "It's your move." Chloe announced and Yami drew his card.
"I summon Queen's Knight!" Yami announced as he played the card and the female warrior in red armor appeared on the field (4/1500/1600). "Queens Knight, attack her defense monster!" Yami commanded and Queens Knight charged towards the facedown monster, revealed to be Apprentice Magician (2/400/800) who was promptly destroyed. "Your Barrier gains its first counter, but your life-points are wide open."
"Not for long! When Apprentice Magician is destroyed by battle, I can Special Summon another Level 2 Spellcaster monster from my deck and set in defense mode." Chloe responded before she picked up her deck and searched through it, when she found the card, she was looking for Chloe set it down and gave her deck a quick shuffle. "So, is Dark Magician Girl ready for round two?" Chloe asked with a grin and Yami nodded.
"Indeed, she is Dark Magician Girl, attack her defense monster! Dark Burning Attack!" Chloe commanded, and the magician pointed her staff at the facedown monster, revealed to be another Apprentice Magician, which was quickly destroyed. "Once you've shuffled your deck it'll be your move."
"Got it." Chloe nodded in response before she shuffled her deck and drew her card once she was done. "Damn, still don't have anything that can destroy his monsters, and knowing my luck Silent Magician Level 4 is somewhere at the bottom of my deck thanks to my deck shuffling." Chloe thought before glancing up at Yami. "I know Queens Knight comes with Kings Knight and Jacks Knight and he likely has King's Knight waiting in the wings, better hope I can maintain my defenses because otherwise, I'll be n for a world of hurt!" Chloe thought before flip summoning Apprentice Magician. "Apprentice Magician has another effect, when she is flip summoned, I can add a Spell Counter to one card I control, don't think I need to tell you what card I'm targeting."
"No, you don't." Yami nodded in response as Arcane Barrier gained another counter. "But you've left your magician open to attack."
"Not for long! I activate Book of Taiyou to flip her back into defense position!" Chloe responded as she played the card and Apprentice Magician disappeared from the field. "It's your move." Chloe announced and Yami nodded before drawing a card.
"I summon King's Knight!" Yami announced as he played the card and the blonde, bearded warrior appeared on the field standing next to Queen's Knight (4/1600/1400)."Since I normal summoned King's Knight whilst I have Queen's Knight on the field his effect I activates, allowing me to Special Summon Jack's Knight from my deck." Yami added as he played the card and Jack's Knight appeared next to King's Knight ready for battle (5/1900/1000). "Queen's Knight, attack her Apprentice Magician!" Yami commanded and Queen's Knight charged towards Apprentice Magician before cutting her down.
"You know the drill by now." Chloe responded before she picked up her deck for the third time and searched through it, she set the monster she was looking for on the field and gave her deck a quick shuffle.
"King's Knight, attack her last monster!" Yami commanded and King's Knight charged towards Chloe's facedown monster and Chloe grinned as Old Vindictive Magician appeared on the field briefly before being cut down (2/450/600).
"Thanks for that Yugi, when Old Vindictive Magician is flip summoned, he destroys one monster on the field." Chloe responded before pointing to Dark Magician Girl. "And she's my target!"
"Not bad, but not good enough, I activate Dark Illusion! Since you targeted a Level 6 Dark Type Monster with a monster effect, I negate the activation and destroy the card, which is a moot point as I've already destroyed Old Vindictive Magician." Yami responded as his trap card flipped up and the spell fizzled out before it could hit Dark Magician Girl. "Dark Magician Girl, Jack's Knight, attack her life-points directly!" Yami commanded and the two monsters launched their attacks at Chloe bringing her life-points down to 2400. "It's only a matter of time now Chloe, I end my turn with two facedown cards."
"He's right, if I don't draw the ring card I may as well surrender and spare him the trouble." Chloe thought before drawing her card, she looked at it and quickly played it. "I activate Silent Doom to bring back Gemini Elf from my graveyard." Chloe announced as she played the card and the twin elves appeared on the field, however they took one look at Yami's side of the field and turned to Chloe with looks that screamed "you're kidding, right?!". "Now I activate the second effect of Arcane Barrier, sending Gemini Elf and it to the graveyard so I can draw four cards." Chloe announced, and the elves breathed a sigh of relief before they disappeared from the field alongside Arcane Barrier allowing Chloe to draw four cards.
"I hope you drew something good Chloe." Yami commented as Chloe sent her cards to the graveyard. "I'd hate for this duel to end anti-climatically."
"You and me both." Chloe admitted before looking at her hand, once she looked at it her grin broadened. "So Yugi, want to meet my best monster?"
"If it gives you a fighting chance then by all means, summon it." Yami responded with a nod and Chloe grinned in response.
"This takes a bit of setting up so bear with me, first I summon Silent Magician Level 4!" Chloe announced as she played the card and the younger version of Chloe's best monster appeared on the field (4/1000/1000). "Next I activate Level Up! As the name suggests, this levels my magician up to her ultimate form!" Chloe added as Silent Magician Level 4 started glowing and growing until she reached her adult form. "Silent Magician Level 8!" Chloe announced as her magician gave Yami a respectful nod (8/3500/1000).
"Her magician's stronger than the Blue-Eyes White Dragon!" Yugi's grandpa exclaimed as his eyes widened. "Be careful Yugi!"
"Unfortunately for him, he won't get a chance to be careful!" Chloe responded before she played a card. "I activate Diffusion Wave Motion! This costs me a thousand life-points but now my Magician can attack each monster you control! I've never been good at math's, but this should be enough to wipe out the rest of your life-points!" Chloe added as her life-points dropped to 1400 and Silent Magician prepared her attack.
"Your right, it would be enough." Yami nodded in response before his facedown card flipped up. "Which is why I can't let that happen! I activate Zero Gravity! This changes all face-up monsters on the field to defense mode, including your magician." Yami announced and before Silent Magician could unleash her attack she knelt alongside the knights and Dark Magician Girl.
"Fine, I move to my Second Main Phase and I activate Raigeki!" Chloe responded and Yami's eyes widened as lightning struck his four monsters destroying them. "Next I switch my Magician to attack mode." Chloe added as her magician stood up. "Oh, and just a fair warning, don't bother trying to destroy her with Spell Cards because she's unaffected by your Spell Cards, it's your move Yugi." Chloe announced and Yami nodded before drawing his card.
"So, I have to beat your magician the old fashioned way?" Yami asked and Chloe nodded. "So be it! First, I activate Card of Sanctity, now we both draw until we have six cards in our hands."
"Almost forgot that that Spell Card had that effect all the way through to the recent Battle City." Chloe thought as she and Yami drew their cards. "I think the errata was one of Pegasus's last decisions before he handed the reigns to Sophia if I remember correctly." Chloe thought before looking at her hand. "Megamorph, overkill? Maybe but it'll at least secure my win."
"As I drew him outside of my draw step, I can summon Watapon from my hand." Yami announced as the small fairy type monster appeared on the field (1/200/300). "Now I activate my own Silent Doom which I use to summon Beta, the Magnet Warrior from my graveyard." Yami announced as the Magnet Warrior returned to the field. "Now I activate Call of the Haunted to bring back Berformet from my graveyard." Yami announced as his facedown card flipped up allowing the fiend to return.
"Setting up defenses in preparation for my next move? It won't help you much." Chloe responded and Yami shook his head.
"I was reluctant to use this against someone with your limited experience, but this is the only way I can win." Yami responded as the clouds darkened above the two duelists and Chloe felt a sense of dread coming over her. "I tribute Watapon, Beta the Magnet Warrior and Berfomet to summon Celestial Dragon of Osiris!"
"Wait, what?!" Chloe yelled out as all color drained from her face and the three monsters vanished in a brilliant light, from the storm clouds above them emerged the mighty Egyptian God Card who let out a roar (10/X000/X000). "Well, here's one thing I'll be able to tell my fellow students when I go back to school in September." Chloe thought as she gulped. "I'm the first, and let's face it, only former Osiris Red Student to face an Egyptian God Card!"
"Celestial Dragon of Osiris gains one thousand attack points for each card in my hand, thanks to card of Sanctity I have four." Yami explained as Osiris's attack points went up to 4000. "I activate Pot of Greed which allows me to draw two cards." Yami added and Chloe lowered her head in defeat as Osiris's attack points initially went down to 3000 before going back up to 5000 as Yami drew two cards. "Celestial Dragon of Osiris attack Silent Magician Level 8 and end this duel! Thunder Force Attack!" Yami commanded and the dragon opened its top jaw before letting lose a stream of thunder that vaporized Silent Magician Level 4 and brought Chloe's life-points down to zero.
"Damn it, I was so close!" Chloe thought as she gathered up her cards, Yami approached her and she looked up to see the king of games offering her a handshake.
"You did well Chloe." Yami told her and Chloe grinned as she accepted the handshake. "If this is how good you are now, I can't wait to duel you at your best."
"I look forward too it." Chloe responded with a grin before she let go off the handshake. "To be honest, you were my main inspiration for taking up Duel Monsters in the first place so that means a lot, coming from you."
"I am honored to hear that." Yami nodded in response before Tea and Yugi's grandpa approached them. "I suppose we'll see you around."
"Yeah, see you." Chloe nodded once she had gathered up her cards and returned them to her deck and they walked off in opposite directions, as Chloe walked, she quickly found herself in the dark void and glanced around.
"Black Luster Soldier – Super Soldier, attack Ancient Flamvell Deity and end this duel!" Theresa commanded breaking Chloe's train of thought and she looked up in time to see Black Luster Soldier – Super Soldier coming right at her, Chloe let out a yelp off surprise before jumping out of the way just before Ancient Flamvell Deity was struck down by Super Soldier bringing Lance's life-points down to zero. "Good duel Lance, but what was that yelp?" Theresa asked as the holograms disappeared and they saw Chloe. "Chloe? Oh, sorry, I didn't see you there!"
"It's fine, I mean the most that would've happened is me getting knocked down." Chloe sighed as she took a deep breath. "How did your duels go?"
"We both lost to Kaiba and Joey respectively." Lance responded as he motioned to Theresa to make clear who he was referring too. "By process of elimination, you got Yugi?"
"Nah, I got Weevil Underwood, beat him before he could get his moth out." Chloe responded with a grin before shaking her head. "Off course I got Yugi, and now I know how it feels to stare down a freaking God Card!"
"Join the club." Theresa responded with a sigh as she folded her arms. "Getting fisted by Obelisk the Tormentor was not fun."
"Err, phrasing?" Chloe asked, and Theresa blushed furiously once she realized what she meant.
"Damn it, that's the second time I've said that!" Theresa sighed before glancing out. "Kaiba said he'd let us out once we were all done, so we should be let out soon."
"I am a man of my word." Kaiba's voice rang out before a bright flash enveloped the scenery.
*in the real world*
The three pods opened, and Lance got out first before helping Chloe out whilst Theresa got out on her own. Whilst Chloe took a moment to check her hair Kaiba approached them.
"You may not have won your duels but by holding your own against the original wielders of the Legendary Dragons you should be ready for whatever tasks lay ahead of you." Kaiba said once Chloe was finished fixing her hair. "That should do it for today, but I do have one last surprise for you all."
"I was wondering when I was going to make my entrance." Yugi's voice rang out and Chloe's eyes widened when the King of Games himself stepped into view. "And yes Chloe, I heard everything you said to my virtual self."
"I think you're going to have to give her a minute to compose herself." Lance responded with a laugh once he saw the look on Chloe's face. "She'll be the first to tell you that you were the main reason she got into the game after all."
"Indeed." Kaiba nodded in response before motioning them to follow him. "We'd better collect the others, last I checked, Chelsea was still on the motorcycle track."
"You mean she hasn't crashed that thing out of road rage yet?" Theresa asked with a grin before they followed Yugi and Kaiba.
*at the motorcycle track*
"Your doing great Chelsea." Sophia called out to Chelsea as she competed at the highest difficulty setting. "Just one last win and you'll be done."
"Easy for you to say!" Chelsea yelled out as she drew her card and looked at the AI's side of the field which consisted of King Tiger Wanghu, two Blue-Eyes White Dragons, Vanity's Fiend (6/2400/1200) and a face-up Spirit Shield. "How the hell am I supposed to win when I can't summon anything, period?!"
"How goes her training?" Kaiba asked as he approached Sophia and she glanced over at him.
"This is her third attempt at the highest difficulty setting." Sophia responded as she turned to Kaiba whilst leaning against the railing. "I'll give the girl credit, she's just as stubborn as her temper is short."
"Yep, that sounds like Chelsea all right." Chloe nodded in response as she walked up to the railing. "What about the other settings?"
"She beat them all on her first try." Sophia nodded in response before glancing up at Yugi. "As I understand it, we're almost done for the day so…." Sophia trailed off before she turned her attention to Yugi. "Okay, when did the King of Games get here?!"
"I've been here longer than you have, I just kept my presence quiet." Yugi responded before going up to the railing. "Come on Chelsea, you can do it!"
"Okay, either I'm losing it due to frustration or the King of Games is cheering me on." Chelsea thought as they rounded a corner. "Can't tell from this angle either." Chelsea thought before glancing at her drawn card and her Speed Spell Counter. "I activate Speed Spell – The End of Storm! This destroys all monster on the field and inflicts 300 points of damage for each monster destroyed, I'll survive with my 1500 life-points." Chelsea responded before grinning. "But Darth Maul over there won't with his 900 life-points."
"Analyses: this is unfavorable!" The AI responded before a massive storm washed over the field destroying the four monsters reducing Chelsea's life-points to 300 and reducing the AI's life-points to zero.
"The winner is, Chelsea!" Sophia called out causing cheers from the four gathered duelists as Chelsea hopped off the bike and went straight for the stairs, as soon as Chelsea returned to the top level, she nearly fell over herself when she saw Yugi. "I bet you'll be glad to never see a Duel Wheel after today."
"Are you kidding? That was a blast." Chelsea responded with enthusiasm once she recovered from the shock. "Definitely getting one of my own when those things are officially released." Chelsea added before turning to Yugi. "So, when did he get here?"
"He was here before me, hiding near the virtual reality pods apparently." Sophia responded with a nod before Kaiba instructed an assistant to fetch the others. "Your friends have a lot to talk about, but we're done for today."
"That's a relief." Chelsea responded with a grin before the other duelists returned, sure enough they were star struck when they saw Yugi. "Are we heading straight home or what?"
"I have one thing to say before you leave." Yugi said before he turned to the others. "You'll face great difficulty in the days ahead but if anyone can bring down the Orichalcos it's you! Most of you are Duel Academy Students but I see a lot of promise in all of you, just remember to never stop believing in the heart of the cards." Yugi told the group and the duelists nodded in response. "Any questions?"
"Err, I have one." Chloe chimed in before she walked up to Yugi. "Well, two really, can you autograph my Duel Disk, and can I have my picture taken with you? Pretty sure my dad will never believe me otherwise?"
"I think that goes for your friends as well Chloe, but I'll be happy too." Yugi responded with a chuckle and Chloe glanced up seeing that the others had the same idea, Yugi autographed their duel disks and had his picture taken with them before they all left.
