A tall slim man with grey hair and large ears, walked up to Adeline holding 4 copies of a medium-sized black book.

She stopped shelving books. "Yes, John?"

"Why do you have this swill?" He held up the books.

"Because you haven't explained why it's swill yet." She stood up. "Tea or coffee?"

"Coffee."

The pair of them walked over to a small drink counter at the back of the store.

The blonde girl stepped behind the counter. Getting two cups, she poured coffee into both of them. "What's wrong with the books?"

"They're lies." John started. "The author is a lying sack of crap that was arrested for possession of child pornography."

"Here in New York?"

"We tried, but he has more horrible crimes in other places. They extradited him."

Adeline shook her head, going back to what she was doing.

"Rafael didn't tell you?" John asked.

"He doesn't exactly come in and go through the shelves." She smirked. "He might come in and research while I put in the late night orders, but usually I just take everything home with me."

"I though he worked from the nearest bar, over whiskey."

"I have whiskey here."

"I wouldn't say that too loud, it breaks your license."

"Serving it breaks my license. Pouring two drinks for myself and my boyfriend is not all that different than pouring coffee for the two of us."

He nodded. "And you're sleeping with the Assistant District Attorney. They probably won't bring charges against you unless you murder someone."

She smiled. "Let's keep that little fact under wraps, John. You know and I know, we are the only ones."

"I hope Rafael knows you are sleeping with him, it would go against everything he fights for if he doesn't."

"You are bad at jokes, John." The cordless phone on the counter began to ring. She picked it up, smirking at the caller ID. "Ships and Stars Novel Enthusiasts, AJ speaking."

There was a sigh across the line. "Hola, Amor."

"This is bad news?" She requested, the spanish tipping her off.

"I've got to stay and finish these forms."

"You said the long nights were over when you left Sex Crimes."

"I know. I am so sorry, but if I get this done we can spend the whole weekend together."

"Alright. I've got to stay late tonight for some group that is being hosted anyway. I won't even lock this place up until 1030."

"Want me to come by, stay with you while you close up?"

"No, thank you. I'll be fine."

"Call me after they leave, before you head home."

She nodded. "I will. I'm also going to my house, I have to plug into the harddrive and backup my work."

"Alright. Breakfast in the morning?"

"Lunch at a breakfast place?"

He chuckled. "You got it, Precioso."

"La revedere, iubire.(Goodbye, Love.)" She responded in her first language.

"Adios, mi amor." He bid, likewise.

She set the phone back down.

"Since when do you stay open late?" John asked.

"Since they offered to pay for the space." She replied, drinking her coffee.

"You sure you are going to be okay closing this place yourself?"

She nodded. "Cops patrol past here at around 11 and I have cameras on every inch of the building. I will be fine."

"Call Rafael if you are here past midnight."

She nodded again, "I will."
