Traitor's Gate

Alec fell into step beside Ruth as they headed along the corridor outside the Grid. He did not like the idea of Ruth being anywhere near the man in the cells below Thames House, and that quite likely he would have his balls on a plate if anything went wrong. Ruth pressed the lift button, waiting for it to settle on their floor.

"Harry is not going to kill you." Ruth watched as Alec raised an eyebrow.

"I don't understand what you think you can get out of the man that the field officers, senior case officers couldn't."

Ruth shrugged her shoulders slightly. "Probably nothing. I just want to know I tried."

"Ruth." He looked at her. "You know you are going to get something. There's no way you would go in there if you didn't at least think it would help the case."

"Just, play bad cop yeah? You can do that."

"Of course."

Ruth stepped into the lift determined to keep her thoughts away from the possible events at the hospital and focus on the clues she knew 'Darshan' or Clone Boy as Will and Beth had taken to calling him could give her.

"Ros." Lucas looked up as she stepped into the Resuscitation Area of the Emergency Department. She stepped towards him as he ignored the nurse trying to persuade him to have analgesia and focused on her. "Are you a sight for sore eyes."

"Lucas." She kept the ice in her voice, unsure whether she was angry, relieved or scared. "Are you ok?"

"Always." He smiled, turning her catchphrase back on her. The nurse raised an eyebrow.

"Mrs North, is your husband really allergic to every pain killer there is? He's clearly in pain but wont allow us to give him anything for it." The nurse sighed as Ros raised an eyebrow.

"No, he's an idiot."

"I am not having morphine. I have to keep a clear head." Lucas protested. Ros turned to the nurse.

"Can we have five minutes?"

The nurse sighed heavily, clearly annoyed that her patient wasn't going to comply as she left the room. Ros stepped nearer to her.

"Take the pain killers."

"I. I don't need them."

"Clearly. Because having your legs almost blown off, going into Hypovolaemic Shock, passing out and nearly dying in Harry's office are just an everyday occurrence. Barely worth considering a paracetamol for." She narrowed her eyes. "Lucas, you disobeyed an order. You went dark."

"Ros."

"Harry could have you decommissioned for this."

"I know." Lucas gasped as a pain shot through his leg. "They said the ankle would feel better with a cast on." He frowned as she held his gaze. "I thought I was dead. I."

"I saw the car." Lucas looked away as she spoke. "I thought you were dead. We all did. Blood and bone fragments found in the burned out boot. Still waiting for confirmation but I'd bet my life."

"Don't."

"That it was your blood and bone found there. Just what was I supposed to tell Amy and James? Daddy died because he was a bloody idiot that didn't follow orders and had no back up?" She narrowed her eyes as he held her gaze. "Don't apologise. Don't you dare say you are sorry for causing all this worry and upset. People died. We still don't know the full reasoning behind the clones."

Lucas winced again, trying not to show how much pain he was in. "Ros." His voice was low, barely audible. She closed her eyes as he spoke. "I am sorry, I really am. I don't want my judgement clouded by morphine." He watched as she tensed. He touched her hand as he spoke. "I thought I wouldn't get to see you or our babies again. Ros, look at me. Please." She opened her eyes, staring straight at him. In that moment he could see the walls he had helped her deconstruct over the years pull back into place. The Ice Queen was back, knowing it was a defence mechanism was almost as bad as knowing he was the cause of it.

"Darshan is dead. I know that, logically I know that. When I was taken I knew the abductors were something to do with the clones but one was English. He had a London accent. I didn't see him but I know the voice was not Russian. The other man was Russian though." The words poured out in a rush, pain causing him to rush the words as he tried not to breathe.

"You're sure?"

"Certain." He nodded once. "Ros, I can't be 100% certain but I recognised the voice. I am sure it was Lee. Security Lee." He gasped as the nurse returned. Ros frowned as the nurse began preparing to take Lucas to theatre. Lucas tightened his grip on her hand as Ros fell silent. "Ros."

"I love you." Ros whispered, before kissing him gently. The nurse replaced the oxygen mask as Ros looked up at her. "Give him the painkillers. Not pethidine though. He's allergic." She kissed his forehead again, whispering to him that she wanted him back just as the hospital porters pushed his trolley out of the room.

"Stan." Ruth smiled as the friendly Jamaican stepped towards them. "How are you? Rose better?"

"Yes, Flower. Rose had the op. She's on top form now." He beamed at her. Alec remained silent, knowing that Ruth was being genuine. She did care about the trials and tribulations of the Security Guard. "What can I do for you both?"

"I need to speak to the man calling himself Darshan." Ruth explained. "Alec is with me."

"I see." Stan nodded. "He's being moved to Piccadilly Station later. Its all arranged."

"I know. I don't need long." Ruth explained as Lee approached them. He looked slightly harassed as he shrugged off his duffle coat.

"What's wrong with you?" Alec asked as the younger man stepped past Stan into the small office behind Thames House reception. Lee raised his eyebrows.

"Nothing. Women. That's all." He headed towards the kettle as Alec and Stan smirked.

"Ok, well. If you wont be long we can leave this Romeo here and go talk to your man." Stan stepped out from behind the counter as Ruth and Alec began to follow him.

"Catherine. Slow down." Malcolm watched as the young blonde ran a hand through her hair. "You think we have a traitor in Section D."

"WHAT!" Beth span her chair around. "Not a chance." Her eyes wide with confusion and anger as Tariq swore.

"Yeah, but not Section D." Catherine knew the team would take some convincing. Tariq nodded.

"She's right. The piggyback signal that knocked out the cameras came from within Thames House." Tariq explained. "I've checked it. I knew it had to be near by but." He shrugged as Catherine looked towards the Pods where Harry was just entering the Grid.

"Traitors? I suggest you fill me in on what I've missed." Harry stated firmly. Catherine nodded.

"Its Lee. I am sure its Lee Taylor from Security and I think this proves it." She turned the computer screen for her father and Malcolm to see. Holding her breath for a moment she looked at her father. "And Ruth and Alec have just gone down to Security to get access to the Interview Rooms."

Harry narrowed his eyes, knowing that it would have been Ruth's idea and that she had probably already worked out who the traitor was that led to Lucas being taken hostage. He knew she would have asked Alec to go with her for back up rather than one of the younger field officers.

"I see." Harry paused as Malcolm picked up his ringing phone.

"Ruth? What? Calm down." He looked up as Harry made to take the phone from him.

"Its me." Harry spoke calmly. "Where are you?"

He swore under his breath as Ruth explained what she had found. "Get back here. Now." He ended the call as Catherine watched him.

"Our fake Darshan is dead. Murdered in the cells. Alec, Ruth and Stan just found his body. Seems Lee has gone missing."

Catherine sat down in her chair, on the verge of tears as her theory was confirmed.
