Manchester?

Ruth sighed as she looked at the computer. She had no idea why she had put the bug on Lee. It just seemed the right thing to do as he barged past her. If she was completely honest she had worked on instinct. Something had felt wrong. As, she watched the CCTV footage on the computer she couldn't help but wonder how a likable young man had fooled them all. Catherine's words circled in her mind. In all the years she had been an analyst she had never really managed to keep her emotions out of the work. Part of her thought it was because of the feelings she had always had for Harry but she hadn't really known what to tell her step daughter.

"I think Zaf has a tail." Malcolm spoke as the Pod doors whooshed open. Ruth knew there was an information link somewhere. It seemed that they were being second guessed at every turn.

"Hi Sarah." Ruth smiled as Malcolm's wife walked into the Grid. The welsh red haired woman looked as though she was about to scream. Malcolm got to his feet to greet her.

"Sarah, I."

"There is blood on the carpet at home. I am not even going to attempt to remove it. I've cut a sample for you to analyse. It isn't mine, it isn't Bodie or Doyle's and you are unharmed which leaves only the intruder. I thought it might be on file? There could be answers here." She handed him a small specimen pot with a small piece of blood stained carpet pile inside. "It's ok, I haven't touched it. I remember how not to contaminate evidence."

Malcolm nodded. He was grateful that no one in his family were hurt but he had to admit the idea that someone had come to harm in his home was disconcerting.

"I'll have this analysed in the labs immediately. See what DNA we can get from it." He stepped past her as she sat in his chair. Ruth smiled slightly.

"Are you really ok? Sarah?"

"No I damn well am not." She snapped. "Someone broke into my home. Our home. Someone tried to hurt us. Its only by luck Henry had gone back to Newcastle and I was out with the dogs."

Ruth nodded. "Which makes me think you were not the target."

"You think Malcolm was?" Sarah's face paled as she considered the idea. Ruth bit her lip as she nodded. "Why?"

"That's what we are working on." Catherine joined the conversation. "Malcolm would never hurt anyone."

"But he was part of the original section." Ruth stated. "I don't know why but I really think the original Section B staff are being targeted. Malcolm was in Section B."

Sarah ran a hand over her face. She knew the younger women were only doing their job but it still frightened the life out of her that someone, anyone could want to harm her husband.

"Old Trafford." Adam paused. "I don't get it. Why a football ground? Mid week?"

Zaf pushed his foot to the accelerator taking the little pool car well out of the speed limit. He focused on the road ahead, relieved that the motorway was fairly quiet for the time of day. "Dunno mate. Not a Man U fan myself."

"You've bet on them!" Will checked his gun as Adam smirked.

"Doesn't mean I support them. Can you not tell everyone? It was only the once."

"Yeah, normally he runs the books." Adam turned in his seat. "Who do you support?"

"Manchester United." Will answered. "Same as my dad did. I bet Wes follows your team."

"He's a rugby fan." Adam checked his gun. "I don't like the fact we are being followed." He tapped his earpiece. "Ruth, we have company. Can you check this number plate?" He read out the numbers as Zaf headed for the next turn off. "We should be in Manchester in the next ten minutes. And Zaf may need your help to avoid a driving ban." Adam listened as Ruth swore before reading out the details of the car behind them. "Russian owned. Thanks Ruth."

Zaf pulled the car off the motorway before joining the other carriageway and driving back along their previous route. Will pulled a face, not understanding why his friend was now going in the wrong direction.

"Quick detour. Gets rid of our new friends." He smiled as the Russian car failed to make the same manoeuvre. "Next stop Manchester."

"The home of football." Will smiled.

"Don't push it." Zaf half-joked before slowing the car to a more legal limit. "We need to know why Old Trafford and what was he doing there."

"No, we need to know where he is now." Adam stated.

"Yeah, that too." Zaf agreed as he drove off the slip road and into Mancunian traffic.

Harry placed the phone back on his desk, missing the days when he could slam the phone down and not break it. He ran a hand over his face as he realised how tired he was. Approaching sixty far too quickly for his liking he began to wonder if he still had what it took to be the boss of Domestic Anti-terrorism. Sighing he looked up to see Ruth in the doorway of his office.

"Sarah brought a sample of blood in. Believed to be from the intruder at her home." Ruth explained.

"I see."

"Malcolm is having it analysed. Calum has followed Lee on the tracker to the National Football Museum. I think he's meeting his contact there. Adam and the others are about twenty minutes behind him."

"Right."

"Harry? Are you ok?" Her head tilted slightly as she appraised her husband.

"No." He answered honestly. "I am sick to the back teeth of this treachery. Connie, Juliet now someone like Lee."

"We don't know why,"

"A man is dead."

"I am aware of that." Ruth snapped. "I found his body."

"Ruth." His voice softened as he stood up. "I know you did. I also know Lee got through all the mandatory pre employment checks. That Stan trusted him. I know how that feels, to trust a co-worker and have them stab you in the back."

Ruth raised an eyebrow. "I know, we've all been in that situation. Lee is human. Something must have turned him. I still can't find any link to him and the Romanov project. Perhaps there isn't one."

"If there is, I know you will find it."

"It could all be money related. Tariq is going through his finances now."

Harry crossed the room to her. "Money. The route of all evil."

"So they say." She smiled as he reached her. He brushed her brown hair behind her ear as she held his gaze. "We will get to the bottom of this. I don't like that he has headed to Manchester though. I don't like it. That city has had enough."

"Its a remarkable city." Harry paused. "Took Graham to see Man City play there when he was nine." He smiled at the memory. "Don't think he ever forgave me. He wanted to support Spurs but."

Ruth rolled her eyes. "I'll get back to work." She felt his lips on hers before she headed back to the main Grid. Harry watched her go, silently praying she was right. They had to find Lee. They had to stop the clone murders as Ros had taken to calling them and they had to know why Sarah and Malcolm's home had been targeted.

"It rained last time I was here." Will got out of the parked car as he pulled his collar tighter to him. Adam rolled his eyes.

"When was that?"

"When I saw Manchester United in the Premiership Play Offs."

"Ages ago then." Zaf fell into step beside his friends as the rest of the world just saw them as three mates bantering. Adam frowned as he heard Calum's voice through the earpiece.

"Yes mate?" Adam spoke as Calum gave them Lee's most recent location. "On it." He stepped towards the main entrance of the Football Museum as Zaf barrelled into him, knocking him to the ground. Adam hit the tarmac with a thud as Will tried to chase a speeding car. Adam and Zaf lay on the road, trying to catch their breath.

"Thanks." Adam sat up as Zaf swore.

"I am seriously going off this place." Zaf stated firmly. "Bad guys trying to kill us. But cliché nowadays." Will walked back to them looking just as angry as they did.

"Got the plates." He stated. "Someone seriously doesn't want us to find Lee."

"True." Adam stood, dusting himself off. "Which is all the more reason to find him."
