Chapter III
The girl just openly stared at her as if she was in shock, so Rin took a step back and mention for her to take a seat on the bed. Once she sat back on the bed, Rin sat down on a chair besides the bed and began filling her in on what she overheard the doctor and the man talking about, as well as the gist she got from the conversation she overheard when she was walking by. She also filled her in on the plan she had at the moment to help her.
"So what I'm getting is that they plan on going through with the process no matter what I say."
"Yes."
"And you want to help me with this situation."
"That is correct."
"Why?"
"Because I can," Rin replied as she took one of the girl's hands in hers."Besides, this way we'll both benefit from the outcome."
"How?" The girl asked as she looked down at hers and Rin's hand joined together.
"It'll allow you to keep contact with the child with visitation rights, which you wouldn't have if what the man has planned goes through, while I get an heir for my family's company when I inherit it in three months."
The girl said nothing for a while and Rin let her think, knowing that this was a very hard decision for someone to make. While she let her think, Rin took another look at the room and found her gave landing on a cart on the other side of the bed. Guessing that, that was where the baby was, Rin took a moment to guess what the sex was before giving up and continuing to survey the room. There was a huge window that covered half a wall that overlooked the park the hospital was near at, a huge long couch rested under it as well as a side table. A television was hanging on the wall across from the bed. A wardrobe a couple of feet away from the bed and a door that she assumed was the bathroom another few feet away. All in all it looked like a normal room besides the extra space and more expensive furniture.
She was pulled out of her musings by a tug in her hand and with a start turned her attention towards the girl again. Her brown eyes clashed with her blue ones, the look in those eyes made Rin swell up with pride and satisfaction.
"Your terms are agreeable to go by...however I'll have to make a few modifications." She waited for Rin to nod in agreement before continuing. "Though I'll love to see and visit my child, I'll have to decline."
Confused Rin asked, "Why?"
"Because I live thousands of miles away from here, and I won't have the time or place to come here as much as I want to."
"Okay I can see your reason behind not wanting to, however there are other ways of communications."
The girl shook her head before speaking, "I want no contact between the child and I."
Even more confused than ever before Rin asked, "why" again.
"Because then I'll want to get her back and I know my uncle is right in his own way."
"So it's a girl?" Rin asked with a small smile on her face.
"Yes," the girl replied with a small smile of her own.
"What's her name?"
"Kazumi Keiko."
"It's a beautiful name."
"Thank you." They shared a moment of companionable silence before the girl looked at Rin and spoke up, "Do you want to hold her?"
Silently, Rin nodded her head, that yes, she wanted to hold her. Also silently the girl shifted around in bed, wincing in pain a few times, a dragged the cart closer to the bed and carefully pulled Kazumi out of the cart and into her arms. She laid back in bed for a while before she mentioned for Rin to take her. Standing up from her chair, Rin carefully leaned over the bed and waited patiently while the new mother gently passed her daughter into her arms. In wonderment Rin looked down to look at the baby, too entranced to see the blue light that shined from the girl and reached out to her and Kazumi.
For a moment Rin's vision turned blurry and a shiver ran down her spine, confused she looked up to see what happened, only to see the girl in the same position she was in earlier only with her eyes closed and a saddened expression on her face. Shrugging her shoulders, Rin looked back down at Kazumi to see that she had opened her eyes and was staring back at her with light brown eyes. Taking a moment to take in all of her characteristics she could see from under the blankets and hat Kazumi was in, Rin saw that she had a head full of dark brown hair, extremely light brown eyes, and a slightly pink complexion, which she knew would go away when she was a bit older.
"She's quiet," Rin commented.
"Yes, she's only ever cried when she needed a diaper change and was hungry."
"That's good to know," Rin said softly as she ran a finger down Kazumi's chubby cheek. Sighing, Rin passed Kazumi back to her mother before she stepped back and sat back down in her chair. She watched as mother and daughter bonded silently for a moment before Kazumi was laid back down into her portable crib.
"Do you want to call your uncle and fill him in on your decision?" Rin asked after a moment of silence passed between them. She watched as the girl nodded before she reached besides her and pulled out her phone. She tapped on her phone screen for a moment before putting it back down.
"They'll be here in a moment."
They sat in silence for five minutes before the sound of the door creaking open snapped them to attention. Rin stood up from her chair and went to stand besides the girl in bed. A moment later a man dressed in a suit and tie walked in with a nurse and doctor. The man looked like he was in late thirties, early forty with a head full of black locks unlike his niece who had red and eyes as vivid blue as his niece. And those eyes immediately turned to her.
"Melody was is going on here?"
The girl, Melody, looked at her uncle with a tired expression before waving a hand in Rin's direction before speaking in a calm but tired voice, "This is Miss Koizumi. The new mother of my daughter."
"What?"
Rin gave the man a quick assessment and saw that he was frozen in shock. Clearing her throat, Rin stepped forward and stretched out her hand to shake with the man and introduced herself properly Once he got over his shock, he asked what was going on, and Rin relayed the conversation Melody and her had, altering a few things here and there to relay the story better. Once the whole story was relayed, Rin and Melody stood in silence, anticipating what his reaction would be. In a tension filled silence, they watched as he walked towards the nurse and doctor and watched as they spoke in low voices for a minute, before ushering them out of the room, and turning his attention to Rin and Melody.
"Miss Rin."
"Yes?"
"I appreciate your help in this situation and can't thank you enough. The hospital has agreed that they'll make all the necessary documents to make it look like you are the one that has given birth to Kazumi and not my dearest Melody. Kazumi will be yours in everything but blood, so thank you again."
Rin opened her mouth to speak but closed it again when Melody waved a hand in her direction, allowing her to say what she wanted to say.
"Actually, Uncle, Kazumi is every bit Rin's daughter than she was mine."
"What?"
"There isn't going to be any of my DNA left in Kazumi by midnight today."
Shocked, Rin watched as uncle and niece had a silent conversation with their eyes before Melody addressed Rin.
"Rin-san I understand that you're confused so let me explain," Melody said as she shifted in bed to look at Rin fully on the eyes and then began a story weaved that spoke of ancient magic and legends that had demons, gods and goddesses.
During the tale Rin neither spoke nor moved from her spot besides the bed, and once the tale came to an end she wanted nothing more than to laugh, for who could believe such a story? But she couldn't, no matter how much she wanted, for she knew within her heart of hearts, that all of it was true. Taking a seat in the chair behind her, Rin looked at Melody with shock and wonder before turning her gaze towards to the cart that held Kazumi, wanting to know if that child was really engraved with her genetic coding.
Seeing where her attention was held, Melody answered her unasked question, in a simple, "Yes." Before adding, "I have made it so that your body believes it has given birth, so that you'll have no difficulties in feeding a hanyou."
By the time Rin left the hospital, her head was spinning with new information that destroyed everything she had ever learned in her life.
"Rin-sama?"
Lifting her head up from the documents she was reading Rin looked at the girl standing in front of her desk with a file in her hands with a raised brow. She waited while the girl put the file on her desk before reaching over and opening the folder to look at the files inside it, expecting to be left alone now. When the sifting of feet on the rug drew her attention upwards again, and asked, "Is there something else you needed Aki?"
"The board meeting is ready to begin whenever you're ready," Aki answered.
Rin looked the documents in the folder over one last time before standing up from her desk–folder in hand-and walked out her office door with Aki besides her reminding her what the meeting was about and who was going to be there. Once they reached the meeting room Aki quieted down and pushed the door open for the twenty year old before stepping a side and letting Rin enter first before following after her and closing the door behind them. Once Rin entered the room everyone stood and fell silent as they stared at her in silent shock and disbelief. Ignoring the looks she was getting, Rin walked to the head of the table and sat down before mentioning everyone else to do the same. Once everyone was seated Rin looked around the table, mentally picking who she who should stay and those who should leave.
"Shall we begin?" Rin asked.
A man Rin immediately identified as being youkai stood and began the meeting. Not even half an hour later the meeting was over and more than half of the people who were in there were jobless or without the position they had before. While walking back to her office, Rin listed off things that needed to be done to Aki, so that she could schedule and have it done by the next day. Although it was only the first day Rin has been in office, already she was making changes to her father's company that would benefit them down the road.
