Chapter XI
When Rin arrived at the office thirty minutes late, everyone was looking at her. It wasn't everyday that you saw the owner of a huge corporation rushing about, late for a meeting, so she didn't blame them for staring. Upon entering the board room, Rin was met with the slight annoyed faces of her employees, and feeling slightly embarrassed for being late, quickly made it to her seat and sat down. With a quick hand gesture the meeting began.
By the time two o'clock rolled around, Rin was beyond exhausted. After the board meeting, she needed to make an office wide speech saying that she'll officially be in office by tomorrow afternoon, and that if anyone had any questions or concerns to come ask her, but to run it by her assistant first so that she'll have time to schedule them in. After that was done, Aki and Rin spent the rest of the day going over things that needed to be looked over now that she'll be in office, and one of the things Rin dreaded doing was making a public announcement to the media, saying that she'll now be taking over her parents business, knowing that she'll have little to no privacy after that interview. After scheduling and meeting with everyone Rin was more than relieved when she was finally alone in her office, without the company of Aki.
Taking a deep calming breath, Rin laid back in her chair and finally released all the tension she had in her shoulders, and without her realising it she fell asleep. It wasn't until the consistent knocking on her office door that Rin woke up. Quickly composing herself, Rin cleared her throat and called whoever it was standing outside her door, to enter. Rin watched as her office doors opened and admitted in Kagome and Kazumi. Offering her friend a small stressed out smiled, she mentioned towards the door and waited until it was closed before standing up from her desk and approaching the two.
Kneeling so that she was Kazumi's height, Rin asked, "Were you good girl for auntie Kagome?"
"Hai!" Kazumi replied with a brilliant smile on her face.
With a more relaxed smile on her face, Rin questioned her daughter on what she did that day and if she had fun. Laughing at some of her tales, Rin brought Kazumi into her arms before standing back up and moving towards the couch laying off to the side and out of view from anyone. While listening to Kazumi through one ear she was also hearing Kagome recount the day as she followed her to the couch. It was pretty much the same things Kazumi was telling her but with less exaggerated details.
With a sigh and a roll of the shoulders, Rin put Kazumi down on top of the couch first, before joining her and resting her head against the wall. She almost fell asleep listening to her daughter talk but held off, not wanting to be seen as rude to either of the girls. Plus, she needed to eat as well as give Kazumi her milk. Turning her head slightly to the left, Rin watched as Kagome sat a convenience store bag down in front of her, and mentioned for her to go ahead and open it. Slightly bending down, Rin pulled open the bag and took out its contains and laid them down on the table.
"Gomen, Rin-chan, but I didn't have time to make you anything to eat before we left, so I bought you this instead," Kagome says with a sheepish expression on her face.
Shaking her hand from side to side, Rin replied with, "Don't worry, don't worry. It's okay." Taking the wrapped bento from the table, Rin quickly and efficiently, took out the plastic cover covering the food, and snapping the chopsticks apart, she said a quick "itadakimasu" before digging into her food. Halfway into eating her food, Rin was interrupted by Kazumi saying she was "'ung'y" while pointing to her "Nanas". With a small smile and a sigh, Rin put down her food next to her and mentioned for Kazumi to sit on her lap, while she quickly unbuttoned half her blouse down and unsnapped her bra before letting Kazumi nurse and continuing her lunch.
By the time Rin finished eating and Kazumi finished nursing, there was only ten minutes left of Rin's lunch break and all three girls were disappointed. Not wanting to spent the last few minutes pouting they spent it playing and talking amongst themselves, well, Kagome and RIn spent it talking while equally dividing their attention to play with Kazumi. When Aki knocked on the door to let them know that lunch time was over they were disappointed and after a quick promise to Kagome of visiting Sango the next time she was free and one to Kazumi promising that she'll be home before dinner, the girls bid each other farewell.
It wasn't until eight hours later that Rin finally left her office with the intention of going home, spending some quality time with her daughter, and getting a decent amount of sleep. Work was far off from her mind and nothing was going to stop her from leaving. She was tired and all she wanted was to see her daughter and get some sleep.
As she exited the elevator and stepped onto the concrete ground of the underground parking lot under her building she stopped in her tracks when she was met with the tall silhouette of her daughter's father leaning against a pillar with his eyes closed and his arms crossed in front of him. As she took a step in his direction, his eyes snapped open and gazed at her with such intensity that she had to step back and fight off the shiver that wanted to course through her body. With a slight head shake and a roll of the shoulders, Rin walked the few remaining steps to be in front of Sesshomaru without having others overhear their conversation and asked in a low whisper,
"What are you doing here, Taisho-san?"
