Chapter XIV
The first thought that swam through Rin's head when she heard Kazumi, was that she was in her office, the second was that if Kazumi was in her office that meant that Touga now knew about her existence. And that was unacceptable to her. Only a select few even knew she had a daughter and she wanted to keep it that way. So, with a silent groan, Rin came from around her desk to stand slightly in front of a speechless Touga hoping to block his vision of Kazumi, even if he was a whole head taller than her.
Mentioning for Kazumi to come a little closer, Rin bent down a little to be leveled with her but still blocking her from her grandfather's view. Ignoring the burning feeling of being stared at, Rin pulled Kazumi into a hug and asked with sweet, exhausted, smile, "Where's Kagome, sweetie?"
Snuggling into her mother's arms, Kazumi cheerfully said, "'Ome comin'," while pointing in the direction of the door just as Kagome walked in.
Seeing that her friend had company, Kagome offered Rin a sheepish, apologetic smile. "Gomen ne Rin-chan, I didn't know you had company. Let me take Kazumi and we can come back later."
Shaking her head in the negative, Rin tightened her hold around Kazumi a little just as Kazumi did to her. Hiding a smile in Kazumi's hair, Rin turned to Touga and simply said in a monotonous voice, "It's okay, Taisho-sama was just leaving."
Touga, who had been wordlessly watching the exchange between the three girls, turned immediately towards Rin when she said that and was about to argue against that when Rin quickly intercepted him.
"We have nothing else to discuss Taisho-sama. There's no reason for you to stay any longer than you already have."
Knowing that he wasn't wanted, Touga gathered his things and made his way out of the office, but not before sparing the little girl one final glance. 'This is far from over, Rin,' Touga thought as he briskly walked down the corridors of Koizumi Inc. 'I need to talk to Sesshomaru about this, and he's going to explain to me why I hadn't been informed until now.'
Rin watched as Touga quietly closed the door behind him and she couldn't help being a little irked that he hadn't slammed it behind him. Shaking that thought away, she shifted her gaze to Kagome and quietly mentioned with her head for her to take a seat in the small lounge area she had sectioned off from the rest of her office.
Watching as Kagome sauntered over to the small room divider and took a seat in one of the small couches that was stationed there. Walking to join her, Rin was pulled to a stop when the bag she had brought down on the coffee table in front of her. Shifting Kazumi so that she laid more comfortably in her arms, Rin calmly walked over to where Kagome was sitting and sat across from her.
Positioning Kazumi so that she was lying against her legs, Rin reclined back against the couch and silently asked Kazumi if she wanted to nurse. When Kazumi made an agreeing sound in her throat, she unbuttoned the first three buttons on her blouse and offered her breast to her.
While Kazumi contentedly nursed, Rin watched as Kagome took out three bento boxes and laid them down horizontally in front of her. Pushing two towards Rin, Kagome grabbed hers before she sat back and opened her bento.
"Do you mind telling me what that was about? And who that guy was?" Kagome asked as she took a large bite out of her onigiri.
"Just an old family friend that's all," replied Rin as she slightly shifted into a more comfortable position on the couch.
"Aa, I see. Does his resemblance to the guy that was here the other day have anything to do with what he was here?"
"No."
"Hmm."
With nothing else to say for the time being, Kagome remained silent. A sigh and a slight sound of movement brought her attention back to Rin, who was adjusting her top while sifting a sleeping Kazumi into a more comfortable position in her arms.
"Ne, Rin-chan?"
"Hmm?"
"So Sango and I were thinking about having a girls night out and were wondering if you were free this weekend," Kagome said as she twirled her chopsticks between her fingers.
"This weekend?" Rin asked.
"Uhmm."
"I guess I'm free. I'll just have to ring someone up to take care of Kazu-chan."
Rin silently pondered this as she finally took a bite out of her food. 'Who else do I know that aren't Kagome or Sango that won't mind taking care of Kazumi for the night?' Rin thought. 'I could ask Ayame…no she's too busy taking care of her own kids. Maybe Jak…no, no. Okay who… Sesshomaru!'
Beaming in glee, Rin happily devoured her food as she thought of ways to force Sesshomaru to take care of his daughter. Kagome meanwhile, was staring at her friend as if she's grown another head.
"You have a lot of explaining to do son!" Touga bellowed as he barged into his son's office an hour after having left Rin's. Sesshomaru, busy typing away on his laptop, only graced his father with a raised brow without lifting his eyes away from his work. Irrigated with his son's lack of response to his presence, Touga marched over to his desk and slammed his hands down on the desk, which finally garred Sesshomaru's attention enough for him to lift his eyes to look up at his father.
"Is there a specific reason why you came here Chichi-ue or are you just gracing me with your presence?" Sesshomaru drawled as he leaned back in his chair and looked his nose down at his father.
"Yes there's a reason why I came here boy!" Touga began as he levelled a glare at his stoic faced son. "I want to know the reason as to why I hadn't been informed that I had a grandpup and if I hadn't stumbled upon her today mostly likely never would have been."
"The answer is simple, Chichi-ue."
Rising a brow of his own, Touga looked at Sesshomaru in curiosity and asked, "Oh, how so?"
"I have just found out about her myself and the farthest thing on my mind right now is informing anyone of her existence when I just discovered it myself."
"Hm, so Rin-chan has a lot of explaining to do," Touga mused as he sat down in one of his son's guest chairs and made himself comfortable. Just when he was going to say something, Sesshomaru's phone rang and with a finger lifted in his father's direction to hold the thought, he picked up.
"Taisho."
"Ah! Taisho-san you picked up," came a chirper voice through the line.
"Hn. And who might this be?" Sesshomaru asked as he locked eyes with his father and raised an implicate brow at him. All he received was a shrug.
"Ah gomen, my name is Higurashi Kagome, and I'm calling on behalf of Koizumi Rin."
"Hm?"
"Aa, since Rin-san is in a meeting right now she asked me to call you and ask if it was alright for you to look after Kazumi-chan for a while this Saturday?"
"Hn. When is Koizumi-san done with her meeting?" Sesshomaru asked as he looked at time in his computer.
"Ah not for another hour. Why?"
"Tell her I'll see her then." With that Sesshomaru hang up the phone and turned to look at his highly amused father.
'It's seems I'll be meeting my granddaughter sooner than I thought,' Touga thought with a chuckle as he looked at his slightly agitated son. 'Oh, this is going to be fun.'
