Chapter XXV
With an anxiousness she wasn't aware existed, Rin waited for Kazumi's results.
After an hour of testing and screening, questions and answers, they were both finally able to take a step back and breathe. Kazumi, now peacefully sleeping in her arms—besides some disgruntlement—had been an absolute doll throughout the whole appointment. With a silent promise to take her anywhere she wanted after this, Rin ran her fingers through Kazumi's silky, smooth hair as she calmly brought some order to her thoughts. Her thoughts centred itself mostly on Kazumi and what her results would be but after that her thoughts revolved around the meeting she had with Sesshomaru the next day, something she felt was inappropriate for this moment.
So, it was with great relief and apprehensiveness, that the doctor walked into the room at that exact moment.
"Koizumi-san," the doctor began as he sat down behind his desk. Offering Rin a polite smile, he continued, "All of Kazumi-san's test show that everything is perfectly fine. There was nothing to be worried about."
Releasing the breath she didn't know she was holding, Rin smiled in both gratitude and relief. Nothing was wrong with her baby and she couldn't be happier. As all her worries were diminished, Rin couldn't help but wonder what the positive test was about, so voicing her concerns, waited for the doctor to explain.
"From what I understand, the routine blood work was analysed by a laboratory that isn't aware of Kazumi-san's...unique parentage," leaning slightly forward, the doctor intensely stared at Rin for a moment before leaning forward on his desk and continuing. "Once my colleagues and I found out, we took over and fixed everything."
Offering a hum of comprehension, Rin stood up—making sure Kazumi wasn't jostled too much—and made her way to the door, however, just as she was about to step out, she turned around and stated in a cold, hard voice, "never let this happen again," before continuing on her way. The doctor, having stood up to go see the rest of his patients, sat back down in shock and stared at Rin's back in astonishment. Well, he could clearly say that wasn't his first encounter with a protective mother, and that it wouldn't be the last time it happens either. With a sigh, he stood back up and exited his office.
When Kazumi woke back up, Rin did as promised and took her to the park upon her request. Seeing as she was near Sango's house she was debating if she should call her for an impromptu playdate when Kazumi grabbed her hand and pulled her along behind her, saying something about having seen something and wanting her to take a look. It was with those words, that Rin decided that she wanted to spend some quality time with her daughter, for she'll have forever to play with her friends and not that much time to play with her. So, it was decided that for the rest of the day it'll be a mommy-daughter day.
...
The next day Rin was up bright and early. In the quietness of the early hour, she mused on how her meeting with Sesshomaru was going to go. From conversations to the rules she wanted to set if they came to an agreement. For an entire hour she contemplated on this until the pitter patter of tiny feet drew her attention to her door. There, standing with one of her stuffed animals, was Kazumi rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
Offering her a small smile, Rin slipped out of her covers and greeted Kazumi with a soft, "what are you doing up so early?" to which Kazumi just replied with a yawn. Walking over to her bed, Kazumi carefully pulled herself up, settled herself in front of her mother, gazed at her for a moment before plopping down next to her and falling back asleep. Laughing softly at Kazumi, Rin gently picket her up and tucked her under the covers. Pondering if she should get out of bed or not, Rin wasn't given much choice when Kazumi grabbed ahold of the hand beside her head and snuggled up to it. Smiling, Rin slid up behind Kazumi and settled in to get some sleep. 'It's only six o'clock, I can sleep for a little longer,' with that thought in mind, Rin slowly drifted off to sleep.
Sesshomaru arrived at Koizumi-san's building three minutes before nine, giving him enough time to pass through security at the front desk and for the desk person to notify Rin of his presence. When the elevator arrived on her floor, Sesshomaru imagined that it wouldn't take Rin more than a minute to let him in, leaving him to arrive at exactly nine o'clock as per their call agreement. However, rather than being greeted by either Rin or Kazumi, he was received by none other than the chatterbox Rin called friend.
Offering him a small, strained smile, Kagome waved for him to come in and said, in a rather distracted way, that Rin will be but a moment before scampering off in one direction or another. It was another minute or so before Rin came into his line of sight. Dressed in casual yet professional clothes, Sesshomaru had to admit that while he didn't remember much of the night they conceived, she was very much a sight for sore eyes. A quick glance in her direction showed that she was too distracted with both Kazumi and the chatterbox to realise what he had done. Just as she was turning around to face him, his mask slipped back on and stared at her in boredom.
"Sorry to keep you waiting Taisho-san," Rin said. "We can go know." And with that being said, Rin preceded to lead him out of the apartment.
Sorry for the lateness and shortness of this chapter. I'm having major writer's block as well as lot has been happening this month. I'll try to have a chapter up by next month. Until next time, M.S.
