First Day (part 1)

~1:00pm Hokkaido, Japan~

After an hour of waiting at the airport hotel lobby, the Higurashi sisters were finally picked up and were being driven to meet their aunt, one of the few in the family that hadn't abandoned them through the years. The car ride was engulfed in silence as the girls had nothing to say to each other and were too wrapped up with nerves to even attempt to break the silence.

Rin, the youngest of the three, was on her phone surfacing the web for anything of interest. She was dressed in a white flowy skirt, a yellow crop-top under her white cardigan, and a pair of plain white heels. Besides her was Kagome, the second oldest. She was dressed in a green and white spaghetti strap dress that stopped just above the knees and white flats adored her feet. She had her hair curled and put into a half updo, she had earphones on and was sifting through the music in her iPod, every once in awhile humming the lyrics of the song playing. And finally we have Kikyo, the eldest and the most serious out of all of them. She had her hair in the traditional miko hairstyle, she wore a long red skirt that stopped just before it reached the floor, white sandals, and a white long sleeved blouse. She was also the only one that didn't have an electrical device in hand, instead she was watching the scenery fly by.

All in all, the way they dressed and acted defined their personalities; most of the time.

'This is going to be interesting,' the driver thought as he looked at the sisters from the rear-view mirror. 'Life in the Higurashi Shrine shall never be dull from now on.'

~2:00pm Sunset Shrine~

The car came to a stop in front of the forest surrounding the shrine from three sides, leaving only one piece unguarded by the vast wilderness. Kikyo, Kagome, Rin, and the driver exited the car, unloaded the trunk, and began walking through the forest to reach the shrine. As they entered further into the woods, the driver took the lead, calculating his steps so he wouldn't loose the girls. After a couple of minutes of walking through the forest their feet touched concrete, and through shielded eyes the girls took in their surroundings, reminiscing of the past when they used to run around this place like they had no care in the world.

Taking deep breaths to calm their nerves, Rin especially, they followed the driver to the small house that stood out in the far corner out of sight of anyone's view unless they looked.

"Ojamashimasu!" the driver said as he pulled the shoji screen open.

"Konbanwa! Douzo agatte!" A middle age woman with light brown hair and big round eyes not usually found in Japan greeted them. Through the open shoji screen they caught a whiff of some mouthwatering scents. They took off their shoes in the genkan and neatly arranged them in the getabako before slipping on the slippers that were in there for guests. The girls stood to the side as their aunt talked to the boy that had driven them to the shrine.

"Konbanwa, Yoshi-san. I hope traffic was too bad when you were collecting the girls," their aunt said as she made a gesture for them to follow her into the kitchen where she was cooking. She gestured to the table and watched as they all sat down.

"Iie, Higurashi-san, it was fine," the driver replied with a smile.

For a couple more minutes they continued to talk before Yoshi got up and left the house to start helping around the shrine. The eldest Higurashi turned around to face them and began questioning them on their flight and their lives back in Boston that she didn't already know about.

"Rin, wake up," the shaking of the shoulders of the black haired girl did nothing to wake her up. Gathering her breath, Kagome leaned down and put her mouth real close to Rin's ear before yelling out, "Rin!"

Rin sprang up in bed in shock before looking around the room until her gaze landed on an innocent looking Kagome who was trying her best to hide the smile that wanted to break free. Rin gave her a half-hearted glare before slumping down back on her bed. "What do you want?" Rin asked, stifling a yawn behind her hand.

"Sayuri-obasan wants us downstairs," Kagome said as she left the room with a small smile gracing her face as she heard Rin say something about annoying older sisters. Shaking her head to rid herself from the last remaining pieces of sleep, Rin ran a hand through her unruly hair before standing up, stretching, and exiting the room given to hear and made her way to the living room.

She sat in between her sisters facing her aunt, grandfather, and two other she hadn't met before. Clearing her throat, Sayuri addressed her nieces with a smile and introduced her visitors.

"Rin, Kagome, Kikyo I would like you to meet Hayashi Sango and Miyatsu Miroku. They will be your guides around Tamahashi High for the first semester."

"Hajimemashite," the girls greeted as they bowed as much as they could while sitting. Both Miroku and Sango bowed back in greeting before standing back up and looking them over. Sango noticed that the twins were also studying them over while the youngest of the three looked as if she wanted to fall asleep. She shook her head to get back at the matter at hand, only to find Miroku kneeling in front of one of the twins and before he could even open his mouth to speak, she was dragging him away by the ear a safe distance away. The Higurashi sisters' looked at each other for a moment before erupting in laughter.
