Sophia curled up on the centre of the bed, clutching the piece of paper to her chest and wishing that it didn't exist. That was how Desmond found her when he returned from the university a few hours before and nothing he could say to her would change it.

As a result, he had called in everyone else in an attempt to move her, but nothing would. Not even the promise of a trip to the Garden of Eden (something suggested by Aziraphale as Sophia had been asking to go for a while now) would move the young werewolf.

"What happened to put her in such a state?" John questioned.

"I don't know. She said there was a case waiting for her this morning and left the minute we were done with breakfast. When I came home she was like that" Desmond explained, his eyes never leaving Sophia.

"If there was one it didn't come from me, it's been quiet recently" Lestrade stated, making John turn to look at Mycroft.

"Did you give her a case?" Desmond beat the werewolf to the question.

"I asked her for a quick consultation this morning but she was finished with that before the end of your first class" the hybrid explained.

"And you haven't seen her for the rest of the day?" John questioned.

"No. She did tell me not to disturb her after two o'clock and I looked for the reason, she made a doctors appointment"

"She didn't tell me about that. When was the appointment made?" Desmond turned to look at the hybrid, giving him a glare.

"She made it on her way to give me the consultation"

"That would explain the paper she's holding, test results of some sort"

"Something tells me that it's not good" John muttered.

"Correct genius" they all turned to Sophia when she spoke.

"Go away, this is something I need to talk to Des about alone" she ordered. They gave her a questionable look which was rewarded with a glare, so they left. When the front door closed behind them and the house was empty of all but the vampire, Sophia moved to sit on the edge of the bed and patted the space beside her.

"What's all this about?"

"As you know, I went to the doctors" Sophia paused and Desmond nodded. "On the way to talk to Mycroft, I doubled over in pain because I felt like I was on fire inside, so I made the appointment when it passed. They did some tests to see what it was, they then did a scan too. This is what they told me" she handed the vampire the piece of paper.

His response when he was finished reading it was to drop onto the bed beside her and pull her against him. Sophia instantly grabbed onto his shirt and started crying into it.

Timeskip

The incident wasn't explained to the others at first, it wasn't something she wanted to admit to everyone because then it would become real and not just some nightmare.

She only admitted it when she was forced to, her mood being questioned by her family, especially around John and Mary. Sophia was always unhappy when she was around the couple and their newborn daughter. Sherlock, of all people, wrote it off as her abandonment issues and fears of being replaced for the first few weeks. He only started to question it when it continued well into the fourth month of Elizabeth Watson's life, he started watching every move Sophia made on her visits to Baker Street and noticed her avoidance of her adoptive younger sister.

Sherlock waited until he was alone with the werewolf to ask about it.

"What news did you get which makes you avoid Elizabeth?"

"You've already worked it out Sherlock, I know you have"

"I might have, but I want you to admit it. Not just to me, but to yourself, living in denial isn't going to make it any better"

"Why don't you tell me what you think it is and I'll tell you if you're right?"

"Because that doesn't help you deal with it" Sherlock pressed. He placed his phone on the table to focus on Sophia. The werewolf fidgeted under his gaze for a few minutes before she let out a low growl.

"You want me to admit it? Fine then. The tests and scans I had done all those months ago revealed that I can never have children of my own because all of the injuries I've suffered over the years have destroyed the systems required. The intense pain I suffered should have been the start of my period, but it instead showed the damage done, I haven't had one since either. I avoid Elizabeth because I know that I'll never be able to have that without later consequences which I won't be able to face, so I can't risk getting a taste of it because it'll just hurt me later!"

"She's family, part of your pack, why avoid it?"

"Because I'm instinctively a pack creature and so having access to another cub in the pack would send my body into overdrive, in an attempt to get me to do my bit in building the pack. Not only would the pain be excruciating, but the surge of hormones that would be created could kill me because there's no way for them to be used" Sophia finished. Sherlock grinned and picked his phone back up, putting it to his ear.

"Did you guys get all of that?" He asked into it. Sophia transformed and ran before she could hear the answer, not caring who managed to see her on the streets as she ran.

It was several hours before anyone else caught up with her, curled up in the park under a bench on which Aziraphale and Crowley sitting.

"Looks like they're finally here" the demon muttered, looking to the approaching group. Sophia heard and ran off again, vanishing into the darkness of the evening. Aziraphale never lifted his gaze from the ducks on the pond, giving a nudge to the demon to get him to deal with them.

"How long have you been sat there with her?" John demanded.

"Since she first ran away from a Baker Street, she came to find us. No, we didn't tell you she was here with us because she explained the situation. Even by my standards, that was a low trick Mr Holmes and you know that's saying something" Crowley explained. The angel sat next to him let out a derisive snort which spoke volumes and made the group a little nervous, Sherlock even took a step back.

"Judging by your reactions you've worked out the Angel's thoughts on the matter, at which point I'll suggest you all go home and wait for her to talk to you again"

"Before we do I have a question. How do you two know about her?"

"Because I took her to them after she told me, I wondered if they could do anything to help reverse it" Desmond answered for the angel and demon who had vanished. "That's how I knew she would come and see them once you pulled your little stunt"

In the time it took John to blink, Desmond had vanished too, leaving the Watson's and Holmes brothers standing in the park.
