"So you just met her on the street and brought her home?" Yang inquired of Ruby. "I mean, that's one way to pick up a girl, but I didn't peg you as the romantic back alley type."
"There's nothing romantic about it Yang!" Ruby insisted. "She just looked really scared, and, Zwei seemed to like her, so I, I don't know!" Ruby put her head in her hands.
"Hey, its alright. I'll tone down the teasing. So your friends in a pinch huh? She tell you why?" Yang stretched her arms.
"No, she hasn't yet. I was gonna ask her after she–" Ruby tried to say, but was interrupted by Weiss coming out of the bathroom. She was wearing an old faded yellow shirt of Yang's that read 'beach babe 4 life' across the chest, and a pair of soccer shorts that were covered in bleach stains. It was Ruby's first time seeing her with her hair down, it strewn across her shoulders on the towel around her neck. Her skin was tinted a slight pink from the shower she'd just taken.
The first thing Weiss had done when Ruby had brought her to her and Yang's place wasn't to ask for her phone, no, it was to ask if she could shower. Ruby got a small glimpse at Weiss's tattered dress when she took off the trench coat. It looked like its been through a fire, or something worse. Ruby of course pointed to the shower without a word, and awkwardly sat with Yang as Weiss showered. Yang'd been kind enough to set out some old clothes for Weiss to wear. And Weiss looked so cute hot nice ? perfectly average in them.
Weiss stared at Yang and Ruby, noticing them sitting rather closely to each other. She looked to the side, seeming a bit miffed. Ruby wondered why. Yang stood up to make the first move. "Hi! You're Weiss, right? My name's Yang, I'm Ruby's older sister." She held out a hand for a handshake.
Weiss's mood seemed to lift at Yang referring to herself as Ruby's sister. "...Yes. Weiss. Pleasure to meet you Yang." Weiss took the handshake.
"So. If you don't mind me asking, ah, why did it look like you'd been to hell and back when you got here? Forget your flame resistance spray?" Yang cracked a joke to lighten the question.
"Might as well have." Weiss's brow furrowed at remembering whatever had happened.
"Are you ok?" Ruby spoke to Weiss for the first time since she'd gotten home.
Weiss gave Ruby a look over for a few seconds, but then replied. "I am now, thanks." She smiled kindly.
Ruby nodded, looked around, then asked again. "Sooo... Can you, tell us what happened..? Like, if you're OK with it, I'm sure Yang'd be fine with you over even if you didn't tell us.." Ruby twiddled her thumbs.
It was so silent you could hear Zwei breathing as he slept on the couch. "Turn on the TV. Channel 5" Weiss said.
Ruby wasn't sure how that would help, but did so anyways. It was just normal news, like alwaaaaaaaayyyss what? "You got bombed?" Ruby exclaimed. Channel 5 news was live on the scene, putting out a fire from a bombing at the Schnee mansion. Ruby jumped up and took Weiss's hand, looking her up and down, searching for any burn marks. Now that her skin was cooling off from her shower, Ruby could see she had a few small burns on her arms. They didn't look to bad, but they probably stung a little. "Yang! Uh, cleaning supplies! Wait no, bandages? What do burns need? What's the burn protocol?" Ruby was almost jumping in place, like an eager puppy wanting to help is human be safe.
"Calm down sis! she just showered, so she probably treated em in there. They don't look to bad, and'll probably heal fully in a matter of days." Yang calmed Ruby down, then turned to Weiss. "Though I have to ask, why'd you come here? I mean, you're rich right? Couldn't you have just gotten taken care of by the authorities?"
Weiss put her hand to her forehead, as if cringing at her own decisions. "Normally that would be the case, but I had escaped out the back, and the house was surrounded with firemen and reporters by the time it came into view again. I'll admit, part of the reason that I didn't go up to them was that I didn't want to be seen this.. Dirty, by the media. I mean I don't care that much, but my father.." Weiss looked like she remembered something, and went back to the bathroom. She returned a moment later with Ruby's phone. "I grabbed it on the way out." She handed it to Ruby. Was that just to change the subject of conversation..?
Ruby stared at the phone in her hand a moment. "Oh! I've got yours too! Ah, also your dad called yesterday, I didn't answer I swear! But, just thought I'd let you know." Ruby said as she fished the phone out from in between the couch cushions, where she'd stored it for safekeeping, and handed it to Weiss.
Weiss looked pale, or as pale as she could look with her already ghostly appearance. "Wonderful..." she said to herself.
Ruby rubbed the back of her head and shifted nervously. "Whats your, plan now? Are you going back? We might have something a little more presentable to uh, cameras. Or do you want to stay? Like you don't have to I, just remember you asking if you could stay and like I think that's fine but if you changed you mind or if that wasn't what you meant than that's totally cool like that's fine but if you do still want to that's fine to I'd have to ask Yang cause it's technically her apartment but she's cool so she'd probably let you but I still need to ask I mean I don't really have a job so she's paying for stuff but–"
"Ruby." Yang put a hand on her shoulder. Ruby looked a little embarrassed at her rambling. Why was she so nervous? Was it because she'd found out Weiss was rich? Maybe that was part of it, but it was something else... Was it cause Yang was there? Usually it was just her and Weiss, but now with Yang.. Nah, Yang was cool. What was it? Ruby looked at Weiss. Her hair was down. She was wearing frumpy clothing. And it made her look adorable adora.. N.. Nice. She looked nice. Why did she look so nice in such a weird outfit? Ruby didn't understand.
Despite the fact that the rest of Weiss's body had cooled off from the shower and was no longer tinted pink, her cheeks hadn't, as they were sporting a nice pinkish blush. Yang noticed. Her blushing sister, and her sisters blushing friend, it was all Yang could manage just to not shove them together in a awkward love hug.
"What is your plan, Weiss?" Yang asked, snapping both the blushing girls out of their dazzes.
"If its, not to much trouble.." Weiss's voice came out soft, almost a whisper, as she twiddled her hair in her fingers.
"Sleepover it is then!" Yang pumped a fist into the air. "Ah, also I invited Blake over for a sleepover tomorrow... Cause of Zwei, I called her while you were out sis. Eh, we can make do with 4 people. Might need to go shopping though... Hm. Hey Ruby, hold down the fort for me? Sorry to talk and run, but I think the only things left in the fridge are some hard boiled eggs and a half an egg salad sandwich. 'course we've got tons of ramen, but Blake really likes fish, so I'd like to get some!" Yang rambled as she moved about the apartment, getting shoes on and grabbing a bag.
Ruby couldn't even get out a word before Yang left. "...thanks for asking?" She said to the closed door Yang'd just departed from.
Ohhh dear. Now Ruby was all alone with Weiss! Wait, that wasn't a bad thing. If anything, it was good. But, as always, Ruby was a horrible conversation starter.
"So!" Ruby piped up, startling Weiss a little. "Whats your opinion on squids?"
"Im.. sorry?" Weiss tilted her head and put a hand to her cheek. "Squids?"
"Yeah squids. Like, taste, or how they ink, or the fact that a group of squids is NOT CALLED A SQUAD." Ruby raised her arms in mental agony.
"Really? What is it called?"
"A shoal."
"...What."
"I know right? That sound's like some weird type of coral or something. Truly one of the biggest mistakes the marine community has made, not naming groups of squid squads."
Weiss hid a smile behind her hand. Ruby'd made her smile? Yes! She wanted to do it again! Ruby liked it when Weiss smiled. The two migrated to the couch and sat next to Zwei, who sleepily crawled into Weiss's lap. She was ecstatic.
"I love him so muuuch..!" Weiss cooed at Zwei.
"He seems to like you to. You can visit whenever, or like, call to see if he's here. Normally he's at my dads, but he had to go on a business trip so we're got Zwei for a bit now!" Ruby swung her legs happily. This was going better then she'd thought it would!
"How is your Relationship with your dad?" Weiss asked cautiously, a hint of worry in her voice.
Ruby's answer was immediate. "We love him! After my mom and Yang's mom left, dad and uncle Qrow basically raised us. It was Like having two dads!"
"Oh. That, sounds fun? Sorry about your Guy's mom." Weiss rubbed the back of her head awkwardly.
Ahhhhgg Ruby didn't know what to say. But she kept talking. "Oh no, its only my mom thats dead. Yang's mom just, kinda left."
"You have different moms?" Weiss asked before she could stop herself.
And here came the over sharing dunderhead Ruby knew she could be whenever she didnt know what to say. "Yeah um, our dad was with Yang's mom first, they had Yang, then she left.. Then he was with my mom, had me, then she died. Our moms, dad, and uncle Qrow were all friends, and roomates, in collage. Uncle Qrow and Yang's mom are twins. He's an informant for the police! But he still hasn't been able to find her. Huh.." Ruby realized she might be boring Weiss. "I think this might be the first time I'm explaining our weird family situationwithout thwn realy asking.. heh.. Sorry."
Weiss did not look bored. In fact, she looked rather interested. "Don't be, it was, interesting to say the least. And to be faithful, I did kind of ask.." Weiss nodded.
Ruby was mentally strangling herself. Why did you just blurt out you life story like that?! and squids? Seriously? JUST BURRY YOURSELF ALIVE ALREADY TO AVOID MORE AWKWARDNESS.
Weiss seemed to be having a grand old time, for someone who just escaped an attempt on their life. "Sorry if its rude to ask, but, do you know why you got bombed? Just curious."
"That's like asking why the death star blew up Alderaan in front of Leia." Weiss raised an eyebrow.
Ruby almost fainted at the fact that Weiss had even seen star wars, let alone knew enough about it to remember that Leila's birth planet was alderaan! Wait, but based on that analogy... Uhhh...
"So, it was out of spite..?" Ruby tilted her head.
Weiss banged her hands on the coffee table in front of the couch. "Exactly! The white fang have always hated us, and since they can't blow up my father directly, his home he almost never comes back to will have to do apparently!" Weiss was silent for a moment. "I never really liked that place..."
Ruby leaned against Weiss, a habit she'd developed whenever wanting to offer Yang comfort. "You ok?" She asked. Weiss nodded, but she didn't look ok. Ruby didn't even realize she was leaning against Weiss. Weiss seemed to take comfort in it. They sat there a while, snuggled together, relishing in the silence and comfort that was this tiny little apartment in the city.
It was as if time stood still.
Ruby felt Weiss move a little, and tuned her head to see if she was going to get up. Their faces were so close, lips barely two Inches away from touching. Ruby held her breath. Weiss's eyes were captivating, she couldn't look away. A whole world was in there, billowing clouds rolling across an arctic sky on a gentle breeze, a little snow bird flying through them. Was Ruby moving closer? Or was that Weiss's doing? Either way, as Ruby looked up at Weiss, even she could tell that the two inch gap had now become one inch. Ever so slowly... Ruby felt the bottom of her lips slightly brush against Weiss's.
BARK!
Ruby flung herself away from weiss, realizing how much she'd been clinging to her. That! That, was almoat a kiss! ZWEI! Ruby stared down Zwei, who had barked after jumping off Weiss to remind the two of them to breath. A reminder Ruby needed, seeing as how she felt like she was gonna pass put from holding her breath for so long. She sat up straight, and felt her cheeks flush. She, had almost kissed Weiss! What? Wait what? Did Ruby, want to kiss Weiss? Weiss was, pretty, and she was really nice, but her and Ruby barely knew each other!
...they had almost kissed, and Weiss was going to be staying with Ruby and Yang for a few weeks. She had to find some way to make this not awkward. Ruby turned back to Weiss.
Weiss bowed her head and apologized immediately. "Im sorry!" She looked back up, and saw Ruby's bashful wave of the hand.
"..its, alright.. I.. Uh.. K.. Kiss.." Ruby couldn't make out any sentences.
All of a sudden, when Ruby was in the middle of trying to form coherent thoughts again after seeing Weiss, Weiss leaned in close and kissed Ruby softly, with her eyes closed.
Ruby couldn't move. She was kissing someone! Kissing Weiss!l KISSING WEISS! WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT was this really happening? Huh?! Huh? Weiss was so soft..! Ruby didn't back away or move forward, she just stayed frozen in Weiss's icy trap. A trap Ruby didn't seem in a hurry to get out of..
Weiss pulled away after a few moments, mumbled something about needing to use the restroom, and left. Ruby was starstruck. Her head tilted, and her face became redder then a tomato. She was glad no one could see her at the moment. She pulled her legs close to her chest, and pulled her hoodie hood over her face as far down as she could.
Ruby, didn't understand her own feelings. Did she like Weiss? Did she like girls like that? Or was it just because it was her first kiss? Was she like yang, who didn't discriminate between girls and guys when dating? Or was this just a one time thing? Did evwry one feel like this on their first kiss, regardless of gender? Whatever it was, Ruby did get one thing. She liked being around Weiss. Weather those feelings were purely platonic or romantic, Ruby didn't quite know yet, but she was sure that she wanted to be at least friends with her. Ruby pulled her hoodie hood down even lower in front of her face.
She tucked her legs in even closer, and embarrassed as she was, Ruby couldn't help but smile.

Side note: in my au, I like to think that Ruby's super out of touch with anything even related to romance and the sort so any romantic like thoughts she has are mushed down or she doesn't really get them.
I'd like to think Weiss is a little pushy romance wise, but then beats herself up about it later
So like that last scene, Weiss ends up banging her head at the wall in the bathroom for an hour or something while chastising herself about kissing a probably straight girl who had no romantic experience. Even though Ruby on the couch over there is star struck and starting to question her sexuality.
Don't be to pushy in romance if you're not sure how your partner feels about it. Or if you are, make sure to learn from that experiance based on how they react (if they seem to like it, ask, then maybe continue? If they seem uncomfortable, back off, and make sure they're alright)
Though Ruby at the moment is gonna wanna have a friendship party and poor Weiss is gonna have to hold in her overwhelming gay for this cute girl whos shes rooming with for the time being.
But remember I have literally no romantic experience at all so take my advice with a grain of salt m'kay?
Also thanks for commenting and stuff like they make me want to stab myself in the face because maybe the blood loss will help me stop blushing like seriously thanks so much its kinda weird how happy it makes me. And with that,
Author out~
