Weiss lived on the couch. In a manner of speaking at least. While she muddled about the apartment just as Ruby and Yang did, she found herself claiming a certain corner of the couch in the front room. And everyone knew that was Weiss's corner. Even Zwei found himself moving from the spot if he saw Weiss walk by. Weiss slept on the couch most days. Ruby, knowing that due to Weiss's social standing she had probably had a better bed before, would sometimes claim the couch before Weiss could. Therefore forcing Weiss to sleep in Ruby's bed. Weiss never gave in immediately though.
"Ruby, I'd like to go to bed now.." Weiss raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms as she stared at Ruby snuggled into the couch.
"Nope~!" Ruby chirped. She pulled the covers up to her nose and stared Weiss down.
Weiss huffed and tried to steal Ruby's blanket. But Ruby was prepared! "Ah-ha! I knew you'd try that again, but I was READY!" After Weiss stole Ruby's top blanket, it was revealed that another blanket similar to the first was wrapped around Ruby, making her look like a bundled up little caterpillar.
Weiss turned away and covered her mouth, but Ruby could tell she was smiling. "Ruby I, heheh, you don't need to–"
Ruby felt her cheeks flush with happiness at making Weiss smile. She just wished Weiss'd stop hiding it... "You were gone almost all day Weiss, I don't know exactly what you were doing, but, you seemed stressed." Weiss hugged herself slightly and looked away from Ruby. "Whatever it was you were doing, you need a good rest. You look like Yang does after she comes home from a boxing match!" Ruby nodded to herself, snuggling deeper into her cocoon.
Weiss sat on the edge of the couch by Ruby's feet, and glanced at her fondly. "...Thankyou."
"Huh? For wha, ahhhi I mean you're welcome! You're welcome Weiss!" Ruby smiled, pretending she knew exactly what Weiss was talking about.
Weiss laughed a little, but before she could cover her smile with her hand, Ruby's foot had snagged it. Ruby's beady little eyes didn't move from Weiss's form, and Weiss stared right back. The cocoon and the exhausted snow angel had a staring match.
One that brought up a similar staring contest from the back of their minds...
Both girls felt their cheeks tint red. "..you, don't need to hide it.. I like your smile." Ruby burrowed her eyes under the blanket with the rest of her body, her muddled voice barely reaching Weiss's ears. But they reached them all the same.
When Ruby next looked out of her cocoon, she saw Weiss with her face in her hands. But even that couldn't hide the tomato color they were trying to shield.
Rubys foot cautiously reached out and caught the hem of Weiss's skirt with her toe. She tugged a little. Maybe she'd gone a bit to far.. "Sorry.." Ruby let the words slip out before she even realized it. Maybe, she should just leave Weiss alone and go to her own bed...
Weiss turned towards Ruby, opening her mouth to speak. But as she did, Ruby's foot tugged just a little to hard, forcing Weiss to topple over. She landed with a squeak, her face at about Ruby's stomach level. She frantically tried to remove herself from that position, but only succeeded in pushing herself closer to Ruby. Her face now rested on Ruby's blanket covered chest.
All at once, Ruby acted. Her arms and legs Jumped from the cocoon and squeezed Weiss, an instinct she had developed as a tactic against Yang's pouncing. Weiss struggled still. "Hey! Hey, hey it's alright, you're alright Weiss..! Hey, hey..!" Ruby cooed, in a high voice similar to the one she used to calm down Zwei when he freaked out over something. Weiss stopped, letting her muscles relax and burrying her face in Ruby's chest. After a moment, she hummed softly and looked up at Ruby. Her pale eyes worriedly asked if this situation was alright, if Ruby wasn't troubled.
And at that moment, Ruby saw her position from an outside perspective. She was holding Weiss down on her, this blushing timid Weiss, and squeezing her into her chest. But, like usual, instead of moving when in a tough situation socially, Ruby froze. Weiss sighed, laying her head down. she still seemed a little tense, but had relaxed dramatically compared to how she was moments ago. "You're so warm.." Weiss's sleepy voice mumbled.
After a few minuets, Ruby could hear the soft rythmatic breathing of Weiss as she slept, still cuddled on top of Ruby. Ruby couldn't move. Not that Weiss was heavy, but Ruby had the emotional weight of knowing that Weiss was exhausted, and that if Ruby moved she would be awoken. But then again.. This wasn't so bad. Weiss was, warm. And soft. And smelled nice.. Ruby shook her head, chastising herself for thinking such a thing. ...She took another sniff. Despite Weiss using whatever was around the house, the one thing she did buy and bring here that was her own, was some shampoo. Ruby liked that shampoo. This sweet dark cherry like smell, would forever remind her of Weiss from now on, Ruby was certain.
Ruby closed her eyes, feeling at peace.
Thump!
Ruby's eyes shot open. What? What was that? She gathered her bearings. She, was on the couch, and on the floor was.. Weiss. Weiss, curled up in a ball and clutching her head. She must've fallen off– oh! Ohh! What happened?! Ruby was, so tired last night, what had she– OH GOD she'd hugged onto Weiss and made her fall asleep on top of her! Ahhhhh! Ruby could almost see the steam pouring out of her ears. "Hhhhhello goomirgnig Weiss!" Ruby stumbled over her words. She coughed into her hands as an excuse to avoid looking at Weiss, and turned her eyes to the table near the kitchen.
A smirking Yang and watchful Blake stared back. "Sooo~?" Yang sung. "Have a nice sleep sis? You suuure looked comfy~" Blake raised an eyebrow, and Ruby could swear she saw a similar smile to Yang's behind the coffee mug Blake was drinking out of.
Ruby wanted to tell them it wasn't like that, or that it was an accident, but all she could manage was a strangled hiss that no person could make any words out of. Ruby heard Weiss scuffling about, and turned back to her. Weiss had sat up. She was facing away from Ruby, and seemed very interested in the patch of carpet in front of her. Ruby wanted to apologize. Buuut maybe without her sisters playful stare.. She took hold of Weiss's hand, and pulled her off to her bedroom.
When she pushed Weiss in and shut the door, Ruby bowed. "I'm so sorry about that!"
"W.. What..?" Weiss was taken aback.
"I mean, um, you were real tired I didn't think you'd fall on me but uh I didn't want to wake you you fell asleep I think I was tired to I OH I'm sorry I GRABBED you didn't I ahhhg wait no um I I wasn't trying to I just um i–"
"Ruby." Weiss said sharply. Ruby stopped speaking and looked at the floor. Weiss's voice became soft again. "Its alright, and I'm, sorry for falling asleep on you. You're right, I was tired and you were, very comfortable." Weiss coughed slightly at realizing what embarrassing thing she just said.
Ruby was glad, Weiss wasn't mad at her. In fact, Weiss was happy? "Ahaha, really?" Ruby rubbed the back of her head and smiled. "I'd be happy to become your mattress again if you'll have me." And that was the moment Ruby tossed her own brain into the void while screaming in agony. Or at least that's how she felt, freezing up after she'd let those word spill out without checking the weight they'd had behind them.
"Maybe I'll take you up on that." Weiss was so quiet Ruby wasn't even sure if she'd hear her right. Weiss dug around in the drawers of Ruby's dresser, the drawers Ruby had forced her to use for herself, and picked out some clothes to change into. "You should change too, the others already seem to have made breakfast. It'll get cold." She hurriedly left, leaving the mentally broken Ruby to sink to the floor in the empty room, and figuratively die.
That was it, Ruby was sure. She had a crush on Weiss. Yang was right? Ohh noooo! Having a crush on someone wasn't so bad, but, Ruby was also living with said crush at the moment! And said crush was probably straight! Would it bother her if she knew Ruby, liked girls? Would she start avoiding her? Would– wait, no, because Weiss was fine around Yang and Blake... And those two made it no secret that they were together romantically.. But, just because she was relatively accepting doesn't mean that shed want to do those things herself! WAIT WHAT do what things? what things was Ruby referring to? Things like, dating or kiss.. Kissing..
Oh. They had done that. In fact, if Ruby remembered correctly.. Weiss was the one that had kissed her..? Wait, that didn't seem very heterosexual... Why was Ruby worrying so much? If, that was true, then would confronting her about it lead to a mutual understanding? This could go two ways, either she also liked girls and was OK with Ruby, or she snubbed the idea and refused to ever see Ruby again... Ahhhhhhggg this was to much for Ruby to wrap her head around! Ah wait, wasn't Weiss dating a guy when they first met? Oh but, Weiss could be like Yang, someone who doesn't care about the gender of the person they're dating? AAAHHHHGGGGGG
A knock on the door interrupted Ruby's deep dive into her subconscious. "Yo, sis? Weiss came out a while ago, just checking up on ya– oh." Yang saw Ruby's mentally worn state clear as day. "Do you wanna have a sister to sister chat?" She sat down next to Ruby, who was currently curled up into a ball on the floor.
Ruby nodded. "Yang, I... I think I like girls." Ruby sat up and leaned into Yang.
"Is that a bad thing? You don't sound to happy about it." Yang stroked Ruby's head softly, her fingers tugging at the reddish ends of Rubys hair slightly.
"No is, not bad, it's just the girl I think I like is.. Weiss.." Ruby hugged Yang's arm tightly.
Yang laughed playfully. "Oh Ruby..! It took you this long to figure that out?"
"What?"
"Every time you even look at Weiss, I can just about see hearts floating above your head! Its OK to be in love sis." Yang hugged Ruby tenderly, then put a hand to her chin, thinking. "Are you worried she's not gay?"
"Yes! Or, no, I think she is, at least partially? I saw her on a date with a guy when I threw soda at her, but she also kis–" Ruby covered her mouth. She'd said to much. What would Yang do if she found out Weiss had kissed Ruby? Would she be mad at Weiss? Mad at Ruby?
"Kiss? Kissed who?" Yang tilted her head. "So, she has a girlfriend?"
"Nooo! Its just, ah, I want to ask her if she like girls but, if she doesn't I don't want to ask but–"
"Say no more!" Yang stood up abruptly, causing Ruby to fall over. She left the room confidently. And Ruby feared for her life. She clumsily went after Yang, banging her head on the door in the process. She ended up hiding in the hallway, watching Yang approach Weiss. NOOOOO! she screamed in her head.
"Hey Weiss, can I ask you something?" Yang said casually. Weiss looked her over, and nodded. Blake was sitting near bye, drinking some coffee. "Are you gay?"
Blake spit the coffee she was trying to swallow back into her cup, spilling half of it on her lap, and Weiss choked on the piece of toast she was eating.
"Yang!" Blake half screeched.
Weiss stood up and mumbled something about needing to use the restroom, escaping to the hallway. She didn't even see Ruby as she darted to her safe zone. Ruby immediately went over to Blake to apologize. "I'm sorry! She's an idiot!"
"Hey!" Yang barked.
"She was asking for me, please don't be mad!" Ruby squeezed Blake's hand.
"Asking, for you? Ohhh..." Blake glared at Yang.
"Ah... I guess, I could have worded that a bit better... Or maybe told you before hand.. sorry Blake!" Yang went over and hugged Blake. Blake still seemed a little irritated, but her bow on the top of her head twitched happily and Blake let out a small smile after a few moments.
"Just, don't do that again. I almost had a heart attack, thinking you were flirting with someone else right in front of me." Blake sighed.
"What?! I would never!" Yang said dramatically. "I love you too much to do something like that!"
"Maybe you could prove that to me tonight." Blake twirled a lock of Yang's hair around her pinky.
"Prove? Oh.. Ohh..! Oh!" Yang blushed slightly and gave a big smile. "Yeah! Yeah sure!" She looked to Ruby. "Uhh hey Ruby, you know how you'd been wanting to go camping lately?"
"What? When did I ever say that?"
"You did, you definitely did. In fact, Know a place where you can stay two nights in a row! You should go! And take Weiss! Zwei too!" Yang pushed Ruby towards the closet that held such things like camping supplies and sleeping bags. "Hey Weiss! You and Ruby are going camping for the weekend!"
Weiss poked her head out of the bathroom. "What?!"
Ruby narrowed her eyes at her sister. "Is, this just you can play around without us..?"
Yang poked Rubys side. "Yes, but also because you and Weiss should try talking to each other about some things."
"Are you sure that's not just an added bonus?"
"Maybe maybe not. Now here, help me get the tent down..!"
And that was how, 6 hours later, Ruby and Weiss both stood in a camping ground next to a lake, shivering like baby ducklings at the outside world.
"Don't, don't worry! I'm sure we won't like, DIE or something out here–" Ruby checked her cell phone status. Zero bars. "–yeah OK we're doomed."
