CHAPTER 27
"L, what the hell are you we supposed to do now?"
Light Yagami heaved a heavy sigh, overflowing with his excessive worries.
"We watch our backs very carefully from now on... We cannot afford to make a single mistake," he sucked on his thumb, staring at the stressed out brunette. "In that aspect, we already failed. Too much precious time has been wasted away in this library of the past."
His words just made Light's shoulders sag even further and he dropped on the couch, arm resting across his tired eyes.
"This is too much shit to deal with," he mumbled, eyes shut closed, "first, your insane twin shows up. Now, that said twin wants to kill us both. Just great. Fucking lovely."
"Not everything can go our way, Light-kun," L sat beside him, leaning his head against his rigid body.
". . . what do you think you're doing now, you cheeky bastard-"
L's nimble fingers pressed against his moving lips and Light looked through the cracks of his hand.
"Just relax. I can feel your stress levels sky-rocketing," he calmly stated, his spiky black locks tickling the crook of Light's neck.
"Whatever, fuck, just don't try anything," he murmured, feeling sleep overtake his exhausted body.
". . . no promises."
Papers flew across the room as he furiously hurled them with all his might, excessive breathing bouncing off the four plain lifeless walls.
"Fuck!"
He was livid.
His entire sight bled red.
Rage coursed through his veins.
Nothing was making sense and it infuriated him as a result. Everything made sense before! This was completely madness. Chaotic and irregular. The patterns seen for months have changed erratically. All of his hard efforts exerted in his research papers gone in a flash. It was surreal. His hopes and dreams all crushed in one instant. Life was unfair. When was life on his side though? As a result of his research, people automatically assumed he was batshit crazy. He knew Shinigami existed. He just had to prove that they do which was one of the most difficult feats he has pursued in his life.
It didn't matter.
All of them would realize that he was right in the end.
He rested his head against the wall, sitting down amidst the disaster in his work room.
If only he could figure out the connection between humans and the gods of death. He assumed that these gods tracked down the time each and every human being was supposed to die. But, is that it? Surely, there has to be something else other than the obvious. Perhaps there are a few specially selected humans on this Earth that are able to directly interact with these beings. There was just so much mystery surrounding Shinigamis.
His phone vibrated in his pocket and he immediately took it out, the blue glare illuminating his stricken face.
'Hello Takeo Jeevas. Do not reply back. I have been watching you for quite some time now. Yes, Shinigamis are real. If you wish to know how I came across this, go to the cheesecake factory today at twelve sharp.'
He blinked his eyes twice.
"What the fuck," he mumbled then looked at the clock, "might as well go see if this guy's the real deal, it's only ten anyway."
Takeo grabbed his leather jacket and made his way out the door, forgetting about the mess awaiting in the enclosed walls.
A/N: New OC! What do y'all think of Takeo? I'm making him Matt's cousin hence the Jeevas surname. He'll be half Japanese half Canadian. Yes yes, I know this is a short chapter so I'll compensate it through writing a long juicy chapter next! As always, reviews are greatly appreciated! Again, thank you so much for everyone supporting this story. Have a lovely day! ^^
