Every inch of his body was numb. That fight had taken a lot out of him. How had he won? He wasn't sure. All he knew was that he won. Now Fluttershy and the rest of the world was safe.
He must be dead, the world around him was so dark.
A long way away he heard a voice calling him. He groggily followed it. Light filled his world of darkness. Pain like a million hot pinpricks rushed over his body.
"Discord! Come on, Discord, wake up!" Discord opened his eyes to find himself surrounded by a purple aura. The purple pony princess stood above him, a concerned look on her face.
"Nice to see you, Twilight Flopple."
Twilight laughed through her happy tears. "You really had us believing that you were dead."
"Nah, I just took a nap, and now I feel as right as chocolate rain." The purple aura faded around him, and he was able to get a good look at his friend. She looked different, he couldn't quite put his finger on what had changed.
"Mommy!" A white and yellow filly no older than five, ran in and hugged Twilight's leg. "I teleported! It was only a few feet, but I teleported!"
Twilight picked up the filly and hugged her. "Good job, baby-girl! Daddy should be back soon, so go tell your brother and sisters."
"Ok Mommy!" Discord watched the filly run out of the room. Twilight a mother? She wasn't even married!
"That was Starshine. The youngest of my four."
"How long was I asleep?"
Twilight looked confused "A few days. We were worried that you wouldn't wake up."
"Four foals in a few days. Now that I think is a record." Discord let the sarcasm drip from his words.
"No, they were born like every other-" Then it clicked. "What is the last thing that you remember, Discord?"
"Me sending all you ponies somewhere safe. Is Fluttershy alright? Where is she?" Discord looked around to see if she was somewhere in the room. "What has happened, Twilight? Something is wrong."
Twilight put a hoof on Discord's shoulder. "Fluttershy doesn't know that you are here, not yet, and Discord, it has been more than a few days."
Discord turned to his friend, who looked pained. This wasn't going to be good news.
"It has been ten years."
Discord stood on the balcony of his old castle. He ran a paw over the stones. Twilight had tried to explain what she could, but even she didn't understand entirely. Celestia and Luna had come to see him in the castle infirmary. They were relieved to see him awake and walking around.
Discord's powers were still weak, so he couldn't see what was happening with Fluttershy. Whenever he asked about Fluttershy, they looked away and changed the subject. They weren't sure how to explain Tina to Discord, or that Fluttershy was now seeing a stallion, so they avoided the subject. The Princesses offered to take him back to his castle, which was waiting for him.
"Does Fluttershy know that I coming?" he had asked, and they just shook their heads.
A few days at his castle and Discord's powers were mostly back, but he still couldn't look in on Fluttershy. It was like she didn't want to be seen.
Childlike laughter came from the trees bordering his property, snapping the Lord of Chaos out of his thoughts. He teleported down and waited to see who it was.
Fluttershy came into view with a picnic basket.
"Tina, don't go to far," Fluttershy shouted to somepony who he couldn't see.
"Ok!"
Fluttershy pulled out a blanket and spread it out. Discord studied her as she went about setting out the food and plates. The years showed very little, with the exception of a few grey hairs in her flowing mane and lines around her beautiful teal eyes. The pegasus surveyed the setup. Satisfied, she pulled a letter out of her basket and opened it. As she read, tears filled her eyes. She dropped the letter, but picked it back up and reread it. Both hooves went to her face and sobs shook her body.
"Don't cry, Fluttershy," Discord whispered reaching out to her. A snapping twig caused him to shrink back into hiding spot, which made no sense to him because he never hid from anypony or anything, but the reflex was natural, oddly.
"There you are, Fluttershy! Rarity told me that you would be out here." A gray and brown stallion approached Fluttershy. A shiver of dread, and surprisingly fear, ran up Discord's spine. Something about this stallion made Discord want to get Fluttershy as far as possible from him.
"Fluttershy, what's wrong? Why are you crying? Is Tina alright? Is there anything I can do?"
Fluttershy shook her head, sniffed and wiped the rest of her tears away. "Just something unexpected that I never thought would happen."
"My question? I am pretty sure that was unexpected."
"No, it isn't your question, Jack. I am sorry about last week, by the way. Your question did take me by surprise."
"I took the door slamming in my face, as 'I will think about it'. You still have the necklace on, so my chances are not completely impossible." The stallion, "Jack" Fluttershy had called him, placed a hoof over one of Fluttershy's and used the other to brush away a tear. The shiver up Discord's spine grew as did his possessive nature.
"Intruder! Intruder!" A small filly came barreling into the clearing. Discord was taken aback by the filly. She wasn't normal. The claw, donkey leg, bat wings and polka-dots told him that much.
Jack caught the filly and hugged her. "You know me, Tina, I am not an intruder."
"I wasn't talking about you, Jack, there is someone in the bushes over there." The filly -Tina- pointed where Discord was hiding. Discord tried to teleport back to his castle, but he was still drained from his trip down. He turned and ran, then flew to gain distance. He didn't get far before he couldn't go any further. He landed behind a boulder and tried to catch his breath.
"Hello? You don't have to hide. I won't hurt you. Please come out." Discord's heart jumped at the quiet voice calling out to him. Fluttershy kept trying to coax him out of hiding. He leaned back and soaked in the sound, until he had to talk to her.
"What was in the letter that made such a pretty mare cry?" He pitched his voice way low.
He could hear Fluttershy's breath hitch. "It was a letter from a friend. It told me some very . . . conflicting news."
"Why was it conflicting?"
"It told me that someone who was very important to me is back in the country."
"Was? Did you love this pony?"
Silence. "Yes, I did love him very much, but he was gone for a very long time."
Discord's heart stung at the reminder. A image of little Tina came across his mind. "Is the filly his?"
"Yes."
Discord smiled, then remembered Jack. "Is that stallion in the clearing his replacement?"
"What is with all the questions?"
"I am curious creature," Discord chuckled.
"Well, he is . . ." The hesitation told Discord a lot. So this stallion had taken his place. The Lord of Chaos did his best not to go back and strangle the stallion. It had been ten years for Fluttershy, he should have expected her to try to move on.
"He is a good friend of mine."
"He seemed to want to be more."
"How do you know that?"
"The way he looked at you, the way he touched you, it says a lot. He is a lucky stallion."
He could hear Fluttershy walk closer to his rock. "Yes, he wants to be more, but somepony is keeping me from giving him the answer he wants."
"The filly's father."
"Her name is Fitinashy, you might as well know her name."
"Fitinashy." Discord let the name roll around in his mouth. Fitina? Why did that sound so familiar. "Fitina, that means discord right?"
"My friend, Twilight Sparkle, helped me choose it." Discord was proud that she had named their daughter after him, but he was also hurt. Twilight and more than likely the other princesses had know about his daughter, but they hadn't told him about her. His own daughter!
"Why don't you come out and we can talk face to face? Maybe that would be easier than talking around a rock."
Discord chuckled. "How I look might scare you."
"I have seen all sorts of creatures. None of them have frightened me."
"You used to be frightened of me."
"What?" The surprise in her tone was unmistakable. "What did you say?"
"I said," Discord used his normal voice, "that you used to be frightened of me."
"Your voice, it sounds . . ."
"It has been a long time. I don't think you will recognize it easily." Discord felt for his power, and saw that it was enough to get him back to the castle. "I have missed you, Fluttershy."
"Wait!" Fluttershy ran around the rock, but he was already gone. She quickly looked around for any sign of him nearby, but found none. She felt the broken and bent grass. It was still warm. He had been right there. So close, yet they were so far apart.
"Discord." She whispered the name and touched the ring around her neck.
Not the reunion ya'll were hoping for (don't worry, it is coming). I hope ya'll approved of Fluttershy's immediate answer to Jack's question.
